Excel 2010 :: Crashes On Macro Exit?
Dec 20, 2013
The macro does numerous things, including deleting the sheet that was active when it is called. If the sheet is not deleted, there is no crash. Otherwise, Excel crashes as soon as the VBA interpreter hits "Exit Sub". The Excel message is simply "Excel Stopped Working". The macro also saves the workbook before finishing, and the saved workbook opens just fine, but it's unacceptable to have to kill Excel and restart it every time (I am not the main user for this spreadsheet). I'm using Excel 2010 on Windows 7.

Ok so I have an extensive worksheet that pulls a lot of data from the web, 47 connections to be exact. So on my work computer that runs excel 2007, the data refreshes instantly and I can see all the numbers flying through and changing as the sheets refresh.
However, my personal computer running excel 2010 hangs up with any type of data refresh, not just this sheet in particular. This computer has 8 GB of ram so I don't think that would be the issue?
Does excel 2010 have an issue with data refresh from the web?

I use Excel 2010, 64-bit-version with Windows 7. I have one workbook, where whenever I create a formula that references to one specific sheet, the Excel crashes and cannot be quitted even with Task Manager. I have to restart the whole system.
I do not have any worksheet events in either sheet. This is the same workbook that crashes if all cells are selected from the top-left corner of the worksheet.
I tried by deleting unnecessary COM add-ins but that didn't work.

I'm having some trouble getting control ENTER & EXIT events to fire properly when having controls embedded on frames within a userform. I'm using Excel 2003, 2007, & 2010. Here's the userforms I'm working with:
With FRAME:
Without FRAME:
In both cases, the DESCRIPTION field is disabled. The selectable controls on both are a combo-box, textbox, listbox, & 2 buttons. On the FRAMED version, the combo-box & textbox are contained on a FRAME.
Here's the code, same on both userforms:
Code:
Option Explicit
Private Sub cmbRecipes_Enter()
ListBox1.AddItem "ENTER - " & cmbRecipes.Value
End Sub
Private Sub cmbRecipes_Exit(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)
ListBox1.AddItem "EXIT - " & cmbRecipes.Value
End Sub
All this is doing is posting a message to the listbox when the combo-box ENTER & EXIT events fire. This works as expected without the FRAME, ENTER is shown when the combo-box is entered and EXIT is shown as focus is moved to another control. But when running it on the FRAMED version all I get is a single ENTER event recorded regardless of how I move the focus through the control set.
Another oddity is that if I have more than 1 control that can receive focus on the FRAMED version, it appears to work correctly.

I have developed a model for a client which keeps crashing after being used a few times. The crash is major! Excel shuts down and asks to send an error report.
This can happen after being run anywhere from 3 to 20 times. (Clicking a POST button which transfers items to a "database" type sheet).
I developed the model on a PC using Excel 2010. When this was loaded on a Mac, the user tells me that it happened periodically, and I have seen is occasionally on my PC as well.
However, the workbook has now been loaded on a server, with users across the state of Victoria accessing via Sharepoint - most using Excel 2007. Now it is happening very frequently.
I don't think the macro is at fault, it doesn't go into debug. Excel just seems to GIVE UP.
Have you seen this kind of thing before? Is there a way of "flushing buffers" or something so that Excel can keep working?
I am reluctant to post the model because it is full of personnel details, and is 2.5mb.

I have a VBA macro for Excel 2007 below that loops through a workbook and deletes a picture (shape) in a range at the top of each worksheet.
The macro works fine until a cell which contains a seemingly unrelated data validation list on Sheets(1) is changed. The macro then repeatedly trips up with a 'Run-time error 1004 - Application defined or object defined error'.
The cell with the data validation is outside of the range in which the shapes are deleted and does not set any of the variables in the macro.
Sub DeleteLogos()
Dim Count As Integer
Dim NumberOfWorksheets As Integer
Dim Logo As Shape
Dim LogoZone As Range
NumberOfWorksheets = Worksheets.Count
For Count = 1 To NumberOfWorksheets
With Sheets(Count)
[code].....

I would like to call upon a function until a certain criterion is fullfilled. Then, I would like to have the result returned to me and exit (all) open functions. For value1 = 1 and value2 = 10 I expect value1*value2 = 100. Instead, the routine returnz zero. What is the logical flaw in the code below.
Function testfunction(value1, value2)
If value1 = value2 Then
'Calculating the difference
testfunction = value1 * value2
Exit Function
ElseIf value1 < value2 Then
value1 = value1 + 1
Call testfunction(matrix1, matrix2)
End If
End Function

Recorded macro. The hope is to insert a excel formatted table a set number of times. I have found a loop code that references a Cell A1 and repeats that amount of times. So if A1= 10. There should be 10 tables inserted. However on the second time there is a fault with the table name. I need the name to change each time the loop is run. ie Table1, Table2, Table3 etc up until the loop stops (A1 contents).
I am using excel for windows 2010. The macro that i have so far is below.
Sub LoopTest()
Dim n
Dim V
Range("A1").Select
V = ActiveCell.Value

I have a UserForm appear when the user opens my file. It prompts them to enter some data. If they Close (Terminate) the Window, I have a MsgBox appear telling them they must enter data - and allow them to go back or exit. When they opt to go back the UserForm reapears but Excel freezes and I have to force quit.
Here is the code for my UserForm, including the Sub for when the User clicks OK (CommandButton1) and the Sub for when the User terminates the window:

When an Excel document crashes, I get the option to recover the document the next time I open Excel. However, if it is a read-only file, I don't get this option.
Is there any way around this? I usually work in read-only documents, saving my changes to new documents. If the read-only file I'm working in crashes.

The code below resides in my personal.XLS Module. When I step through the code everything works till it reaches the point in red then I get the pop up that says excel needs to close and asks to send or not to send.
I noticed that if I choose recover my work and restart excel and I look at the code in THISWORKBOOK of the recovered workbook that the code I wanted placed there is there.
Can anyone explain why this is happening? I have the macro's security set to low and a check mark in the trust access to vb projects.
Any Idea's how to fix this?

When I run a group of macros for some reason after the marcro runs and I hit F2 excel crashes.
I have figured out that it is one of the marcros that makes the excel crash. It is only when I run the solver application. The code is below. Any thoughts why hitting F2 after running this marcro would crash the machine?

rnum = ActiveCell.Row
Is there a difference between xl2000 & xl2003?

I have some code that I am using to save and close the active workbook, this code works perfectly, but I need the code to also close the excel application, not just the workbook. I have tried active window.close but it didn't work even though when I recorded the actions that was the code that I was give.
background -I set a task in my OS to open the workbook, then I wrote some code on the Workbook.open trigger to run and then save and close, but only the activebook closes.

I am trying to sort a csv file through a VBScript. My problem is that Excel continues to run as a process on script completion. Running multiple variation of this script results in multiple instances of Excel being present in the WinXP Process Manager.
Set xlObj = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
xlObj.Visible = false
xlObj.Workbooks.Open "C:Test.csv"
xlObj.ActiveWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Range("A1").Sort xlObj.ActiveWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Range("A1"),,,,,,,0
xlObj.ActiveWorkBook.Save
xlObj.ActiveWorkBook.Close true
xlObj.quit
set xlObj = Nothing
As a second part to my question, is there any way to modify the code to allow multiple field sorts, i.e., A1 is Primary, C1 is secondary?

I have a report I produce where I take an XML file, sort it and run some simple formulas then sort another way and run a few more formulas then update a pivot table. The XML files I'm using have the same headers but vary in length. When I set the macro up for a particular XML file everything works fine. When I import another one (different size) I get the error message:
Run-time error ‘1004’:
Sort method of Range class failed
When I look at the code I see that the range is fixed to the XML file I used when setting the macro up. Is there a way to auto-select the table in the macro so I can run the same macro on any size XML?

I have 2 excel files (both .xlsx) and in the first file i am creating a reference to cells in the 2nd file using SUMIFS function. The 2nd file has 275,000 rows of data. I can create the formula correctly, however when i save the file, it just crashes every time (says not responding). If i create simple reference (=A275000) then its fine so im not sure what the issue is.

I'm just wondering if any of you can lend some help on a bug i'm encountering. When I press a button on my worksheet to call a macro that brings up a userform, the excel will crash, and give that "do you want to report this error", close down excel, and reopen on a blank worksheet. Strange thing is, this error is avoided if I save the workbook upon opening it, and then call that macro.
The workbook does not read data from external sources, so i dont think is that problem.
Has anyone encountered this?

I'd like my button-triggered macro to exit and quit IF the sheet it is on is protected when someone presses the button. Here's the idea:
IF the active sheet protected THEN
Display "Can't do this on protected sheet" (and exit macro after click OK)
Else
run the rest of the macro.
