Change Form Button Properties With A Macro?
Nov 12, 2008
I have a button wich will add data entered on a form to a spreadsheet if the data meets certain criteria. If it does not it will not let you add anything. I would like to add a second button that will add the data even if it does not meet the criteria but I need the second button to only be enabled with a password. Maybe a macro to change the button properties from locked to unlocked (true to false).

I would like to set up some option buttons so that the will be become visible and enabled when a check box is checked, and the opposite when the same checkbox is not check. This is my problem
Private Sub cbpDiscAlum_Click()
Dim myOption As Control
Dim myValue As Boolean
myValue = cbpDiscAlum.Value = True
If myValue = True Then
For Each myOption In pDiscounts.Controls
myOption.Visble = True
myOption.Enabled = True
Next myOption
Else
For Each myOption In pDiscounts.Controls
myOption.Visible = False
myOption.Enabled = False
Next myOption
End If
End Sub
It is the 5th command where it gets hung up: For Each myOption In pDiscounts.Controls. I am sure I am spelling both of the names correctly: the checkbox, and the group name.

This is probably really straight forward but cant see why it happens, the following macro works fine when called by a button created by the form toolbar but doesnt when called by a command button, get the runtime error 1004, "select method of range class failed"
ActiveSheet.Select
Range("B4:B37").Select
Selection.ClearContents
Range("G4:G37").Select
Selection.ClearContents
Range("B1").Select
Selection.ClearContents
Range("D1").Select
Selection.ClearContents
Range("F1").Select
Selection.ClearContents
Range("J1").Select
Selection.ClearContents
Range("M2:M3").Select
Selection.ClearContents
Range("B4").Select
ActiveWorkbook.Save
Application.Quit

how to get a list of the properties for form control shapes (not control toolbox shapes) that are placed on a worksheet (not on a userform). Eg., a button, checkbox, combobox, etc.
If it's possible, I'm interested in working with properties like "enabled", "caption", etc. that aren't listed on the "Format Control Properties" dialog.
I understand you can edit properties of a form control shape via VBA code (See example below), however, I can't seem to find anything within the object browser about them.
EXAMPLE
With ActiveSheet.Shapes("Scroll Bar 2").ControlFormat
.Min = 10
.Max = 150
End With

So I have a sheet with a lot of formulas and form control buttons that have been assigned macros.
When I go to protect certain cells and lock them and the activate sheet protection, suddenly my form control buttons with the assigned macros don't work.
I still need to protect some cells with formulas and don't want to leave the whole worksheet unprotected, but in order to allow the form control button macros to run, it appears that's what I have to do....or, is there another way to do this?

I've created a worksheet that allows my team to build an order for a customer. I've created a PDF form with blanks so they can fill in the necessary values in the correct fields ie. Tariff Name, Handset Name, Minutes etc.
I'm hoping to create a macro button that will export all the the data needed and auto fill the PDF form to save time.
So far I've added a button with the following code
VB:
Sub CopyData()
Sheets("Quote").Range("v16:ab16").Copy
Sheets("Sheet1").Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0).PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues
End Sub
This simply adds all the data needed onto a separate sheet ready to be exported as a csv.
I'm in need of the rest of the code to export/import Sheet1 into my fillable form.
So far attempts to export to .csv have turned my entire worksheet into a .csv file or caused errors within the code.
I've attached a sample of my Workbook and PDF form below.
Sample Documents .....

I have a button on a worksheet that activates a macro, the macro is stored in a "personal.xlsb" file. This file is copied to several users computers so they can use the macro, problem is once the button is assigned to a macro from one computer all the other users can't use the macro. What can I do to make this macro work on all computers? (Less placing yet another button on the tool bar).

I am trying to change the text that appears on a button on a worksheet via a macro. There is only one button on the worksheet so in the macro I use
MyCaption = activecell.value 'Pick up the button text from the spreadsheet
For each sh in activesheet.shapes
sh.caption = MyCaption
'I know this would do all, but only one button as I said
next sh
which generates "Object doesn't support this property or method".
This is strange because if you get the properties box up, Caption definitely shows as a property of a button control.

I have never written or used a macro before and I have a simple macro task to complete:
I have Column L (L4:L10) of seven scroll bars that move according to number changes in column F (F4:F10). I want to create a form control command button that resets the changes on the scroll bars according to static column of numbers in Column E (E4:E10).
I don't know if it matters, but I'll add that I plan to add a second button that does the same thing with a different column of data. I assume I'll simply replicate whatever procedure I use in the first button - is this okay?

I want to change the buttons properties including its caption etc.. I've tried using'

I am trying to use VBA to change the caption of checkboxes in "Sheet 2" when I change the value of a cell "A1" in "Sheet 1".
This code is working:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)If Intersect(Target, ActiveSheet.Range("A1")) Is Nothing Then Exit Sub
Worksheets("Sheet 2").CheckBox1.Caption = "New Caption"End Sub
But there are 6 checkboxes in Sheet 2 and I would like to do something like this:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)If Intersect(Target, ActiveSheet.Range("A1")) Is Nothing Then Exit Sub
For i = 0 to 5Worksheets("Sheet 2").Control("CheckBox" & i+1).Caption = "Box" & i+1Next iEnd Sub
This doesn't work.. So I guess the Control-function is wrong.

I am having a hard time setting the MultiLine, Scrollbars and WordWrap properties through programmation. Actually what I want my code to do is to create a set of textboxes in my spreadsheet and then set the MultiLine, Scrollbars and WordWrap properties. Right now I can create the boxes and rename them but I'm unable to change the other properties.
inst_num = Range("AA1").Value
ActiveSheet. OLEObjects.Add("Forms.TextBox.1", Link:=False, _
DisplayAsIcon:=False, Left:=20, Top:=95 + (inst_num - 1) * 105, Width:=70, Height _
:=30).Select
ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Add(ClassType:="Forms.TextBox.1", Link:=False, _
DisplayAsIcon:=False, Left:=100, Top:=95 + (inst_num - 1) * 105, Width:=100, Height _

I've got a button with the following code:
Sub uncheck_all()
Dim sh As Shape
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
For Each sh In ActiveSheet.Shapes
[Code]....
Currently, the button just unchecks a bunch of checkmarks. I want to modify the code so it also makes the value in cell C13 change to -9999, C14 to 9999, C16 to -9999 and C17 to 9999.
how to integrate that into the formula?

My apologies if this might sound a bit newbish compared to other questions asked on this forum, but I'm new to vba and there are 2 things I can't work out.
1) I wrote a function that takes an arguement and wish to call that from a number of buttons I placed on my worksheet, each button passing it a different value for the parameter. How can I do that?
2) From my code, can I reference back to the button to change its text?

How do I set the font size property and special effect property in this code?
I was trying to answer a question on Experrt Exchange but Rory beat me to it and now I'm feeling frustrated that I can't get my solution to work.
Sub AddCombo()Dim rVals As Range, rCell As Range, lTop, lLef, lHeight, lWidth, lCount As LongSet rVals = ActiveSheet.Cells.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeAllValidation)lCount = 1For Each rCell In rVals If rCell.Validation.Type = 3 Then lTop = rCell.Top lLeft = rCell.Left lHeight = rCell.Rows.Height lWidth = rCell.Columns.Width With ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Add(classtype:="Forms.ComboBox.1", Left:=lLeft, Top:=lTop, Width:=lWidth, Height:=lHeight) .Name = "NewCombo" & lCount .ListFillRange = rCell.Validation.Formula1 .LinkedCell = rCell.Address(0, 0) '.SpecialEffect = fmSpecialEffectFlat //doesn't work // '.FontSize = 14 //doesn't work // '.Font.Size = 14 // doesn't work // End With lCount = lCount + 1 End IfNext rCellEnd Sub

I am imagining a spreadsheet with the equivalent of an info button in each cell of column A. The idea is the user clicks the button to open a User Form containing additional info about the entitity represented by values on that row.
E.g., Row 1 is labels, row 2 is all about Bob, 3 is about Jane, 4 is about Freddy. If the user clicks the info button on row 3 then a user form opens up and displays additonal info about Jane.
I am wondering if there is a way for VB to identify which row the clicked button was on without having to write individual code for each button telling VB which row the button was on.
I am hoping there is some form button property I can reference or interrogate which will give me a cell address; a button.position property or similar. This will obviously save me a lot of coding if VB can dynamically determine which row is being interrogated as there will be a couple of hundred of these to start with, potentially thousands. (I realise Access is a better solution for database interrogation, but I have to work with excel at present).
Ultimately, the user form that the button calls up will have a list box on it and I want the list box to default to the entity on that row, and allow the user to browse the other entities if they want to.
If there isn't a solution for this I will just have a single info button for the users to click that opens the user form and then they can select the entity from a list box. But I would like to offer the "intelligent display" option but don't relish coding the equivalent of several hundred "You clicked button four hundred and seventy six, default to info card for bert".

It has been awhile since I've worked on anything and I can't remember how to do something that is probably very simple. I have placed an option button on my worksheet and cannot for the life of me remember how to change the properties. When I right click and select properties a box pops up but there is no info there. I want to be able to change the name and group etc.

My boss wants a spreadsheet that has multiple buttons on it that will change the background color of a specific cell to four different colors. Example:
Text written in Cell B3, Button in Cell A3 that will change the Background color of Cell B3 to either Green, Yellow, Red or Blue.
There will be a lot of buttons on this worksheet following the same format as above. I don't want to change the value of what is in the cell, just the background color.

I am looking to find a way and synthesize code that will prompt the user for text data when he/she clicks a radio button, then place that text data in a "Notes" worksheet within the same workbook. Given that there are multiple radio buttons, with options of "OK" and "attention needed" (it is a checklist of maintenance items), I also need to find a way to have each note listed sequentially in the notes worksheet. My questions: Is this possible using macros? Can you steer me in the right direction? (change event, inputbox, then what?)

I've created a custom ribbon which contains checkboxes that hide or show columns.
I would like to change the enable state of the checkboxes while the user is interacting with the spreadsheet.
For example:I would like to disable all of the checkboxes if they are not viewing sheet1I would like to disable the second checkbox if the first checkbox is unchecked.
I know how to set these all on initialize. I just have not figured out how to update these controls after it has been opened.
