Find Function Where Search Criteria Isn't Exact Match For Cell Contents

Dec 19, 2011

I am new to VBA and am having difficulties in getting a find function to successfully locate search criteria within cell. When the search criteria matches exactly that of the cell contents then the code works; however should the search criteria only form part of the total cell contents (such as a seach for "the" in a cell containing "the cat sat on the mat") the code doesn't recognise it.

Essentially, I need the code to search a range for the required string and if found within a cell activate that cell and populate a combobox with the full cell contents of the activecell.offset(0,-2).

The relevant section of code attached below:

Dim role_count as range
Dim role as string

If Application.WorksheetFunction.CountIf(Range("Role_Count"), Role) 0 Then
Range("role_count").Select
Selection.Find(What:=Role, After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt:= _
xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:=False _
, SearchFormat:=False).Activate

Me.Controls(ComboBoxName) = ActiveCell.Offset(0, -2).Value

The first one are located at Sheet1(a2.a6) and Second one are at Sheet2(A1.A1000). how I can write a VBA code to find the First value in Second set of values. If it found in second set, Sheet1.B1 will be entered as the found value from Second set of value otherwise "NOt found".

This task should go till the no of values in first set (in this example five times)

Counting A Column Based On Two Sets Of Criteria

Jul 23, 2009

I'm using a sumproduct forumla to count rows based on specific data in multiple columns. So if column A equals 1 and column G does not equal 6 and column M equals 4 then count that row. I know how to do this. The problem I'm having is that I want to count column A if equals 1 or 2. I tried adding an OR comand in with my sumproduct but it doesn't seem to work that way.

VBA - Sort Using Two Sets Of Criteria And Find Closest 4 Numbers?

May 1, 2013

I have two sets of data:

Data set #1

Indicator PriceIndicator Price Date
2.1 10/27/08
2.11 10/22/08
2.17 11/21/08
2.38 03/20/09
2.38 03/25/09
2.46 03/19/09
2.5 03/09/09
2.5 03/24/09
2.53 12/04/08
2.73 12/09/08
2.82 12/24/08
2.83 12/18/08
2.89 12/12/08
2.9 03/13/09

Data set #2:

Close Price Close Price Date s1s2s3s4r1r2r3r4
2.25 12/11/09
2.30 12/12/09
2.40 12/13/09
2.00 12/14/09
2.12 12/15/09
2.50 12/16/09
2.51 12/17/09
2.53 12/18/09
2.49 12/19/09

What I'm attempting to do is find what are the CLOSEST four indicator prices in data set #1 are above (r1, r2, r3, r4) and below (s1, s2, s3, s4) the closing price in data set #2. Also, I can only use the indicator numbers in data set #1 that are on or before the close price date in data set #2. Because of this, not all of the r's and s's will be filled in.

I would like to use just regular excel formulas, but I have a feeling that VBA may be my only option.

Excel 2003 :: Countif Formula With Two Sets Of Criteria

May 12, 2014

I posted an earlier question about using a countif formula with two sets of criteria, Below is the formula I was given but for the life of me I can not get it to calculate. I have created a drop down box for each agent at my work and a drop down box for pass and fail. I want to keep a running total if they pass or fail on an assigment. I have labeled my worksheet phone.

=sumproduct((Phone!G:G="Fail*")*(Phone!B:B="Smith, John*"))

Search Multiple Worksheets Against List Of Non-Exact Search Criteria?

Nov 2, 2009

I have a workbook with many many sheets in it. The first sheet contains a single column with about 10,000 different values. I'd like to use each of these as search criteria against ALL data in the other sheets (of which there are a good 50 or so). If matches are found (they don't have to be exact case), then I'd like two things to happen:

1. The rows containing the matched search criteria in the first sheet are highlighted.

2. In the cells adjacent to the search criteria in the first sheet, hyperlinks to the matched data are created and named after the sheet upon which this matched data appears.

I've attached a sample file to this post with ideal sample 'answers' to queries made of the first 2 terms.

VBA: Search Function: Which Shows An Input Box Where You Can Enter A Word To Search For

Sep 9, 2003

I'm from Bavaria, Germany. Right now, I am doing an internship for my studies. my problem: I need a search procedure which shows an Input Box where you can enter a word to search for. It should work like the original Excel search (Ctrl-F), but with a simpler design, like with my own Text "Enter your Query" and a Button "Submit Query" / "Quit search". Is there the possibility to Highlight the Search Target? The problem hereby is that this highlighting should not be permanent. That means the user sees the target for which he searched for, the cell highlighted in a different color, etc. But as soon as the user clicks onto another cell, etc., the highlighting vanishes. If there is no fitting match, there should be a MessageBox like "Sorry the Target xyz cannot be found"

Using The =IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH Function To Search Multiple Cells)

Aug 21, 2009

I' having trouble using the =IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH formula to search multiple cells.

I can get it to work to search one cell (as below):

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("Same",G10)),"No Change",'Aug 09 Matrix'!F10)

(In this case the respone is No Change as Cell G10 contains "Same")

However cannot get it to work for several cells. I have pasted below and highlighted the function I would like it to perform:

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("Same",G10:R10)),"No Change",'Aug 09 Matrix'!F10)

Essentially the other cells in that row (G10:R10) all contain "Same", however for some reason it is identifying this as FALSE and putting in the data from the 'Aug 09 Matrix' sheet.

Sometimes the sets are only 1 row, sometimes multiple rows. It looks like I will be doing one of these sheets every week. So far I have been doing it manually, but a macro sure would save some time.

VLOOKUP / INDEX / MATCH Function: Match Data From 2 Independent Sets??

Oct 8, 2009

I am trying to match data from 2 independent sets, formatted slightly differently so not sure which function would work best for me. From the attached file, I am trying to match the date and time stamp (in cell A1) with that from the other data (in this example in cell E1) and return the data (from cell F1) to cell C1. So basically any date and time stamp before 04/03/09 04:00 will return a value of 44 (this value should appear, therefore in cells C1 - C30)

Search For Multiple Criteria

Feb 14, 2010

I have a spreadsheet with a database search function incorporated. Whilst this works fine, I was wondering if there is a way to combine the current single query searches into one search macro. I have setup a userform called CriteriaSearch that I would like to use to search my database tab. An example search would be:

User requires someone who speaks French (5), is female, has a rank of 3, is available immediately and has notes/keywords/keyphrases of "excellent linguistic and cultural knowledge". The appropriate fields on the userform are populated accordingly. The user selects search and a macro runs to find matching records. To make things slightly easier, the criteria (Language, Gender, Rank etc) all have fixed column references.

Search For Value Based On Two Criteria - VBA

Mar 12, 2012

I am trying to find the best way to give a result based out of two criterias. My original list is 1000+ row long, so I am expecting that my vba code will be refering to a worksheet with this list on it.

The list will look like this :

Group SubgroupName1aaaname11bbbname21cccname32cccname42dddname42dddname5

I will always have the group and subgroup available and I want to get the name.

So I would like to write a function or a macro that would look for the specific group and subgroup and return me the name.

The problem is that i have multiple shifts with the "AA8" criteria, but my function only finds the first one.

I used the following function:

Code:
=IF(C8="";"";INDEX('Afdeling PG PH'!$A$6:$A$28;MATCH(C8&$A$7;'Afdeling PG PH'!$B$6:$B$20&'Afdeling PG PH'!$AI$6:$AI$20;0)))

Also when the AA8 cel is empty that i doesn't show anything.

How the second N3 eveline, shows the 2nd result and so on.

Userform For Search That Matches Three Criteria?

Mar 18, 2013

I created a userform for a giant spreadsheet with tons of data in it. There are three criteria. I created two command buttons - one that's "search" and one that's "close." The close works fine, but I don't know enough to program the "search" command. I'd like it to pull all data that matches the three criteria - rows H, D and M. So, if you answer all three, the macro will pull the rows of data that matches and paste it into another workbook (that opens in another window).

I'm not sure userforms are typically used for this sort of thing...
