Hide Columns / Rows While Having Worksheet Protected?
Jun 19, 2014
I got a worksheet here. I'd like to lock all the cell height and width using protected sheets function. I realized from time to time I have the need to hide them. How do I enable hiding sheets while maintaining cell integrity?

When my spreadsheet opens it automatically protects the sheets using the following
With Sheet1
.Protect Password:=SpreadsheetPassword, UserInterfaceOnly:=True
.EnableOutlining = True
End With
and I use the following to hide the column if the toggle button on my form is 'true'. The problem is it gives an error if the sheet is protected. it worksfine without protection.
If ToggleButton1.Value = True Then
Range("column_calories").EntireColumn.Hidden = True
Else
Range("column_calories").EntireColumn.Hidden = False
End If

I'm familiar with the code to allow grouping/ungrouping in a protected spreadsheet; http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/outlining-protected.htm. How would I code to allow for hiding/unhiding cloumns and rows while still protecting the spreadsheet? Also, how could i allow for this file to be shared? Currently i'm getting an debug error when another person enters the file.

I have created a table where the first 6 columns are data entry and the next 6 columns are formulas to give desired results.
I have made all the data entry cells unlocked and the rest of the spreadsheet locked (cells with formulas etc.)
I would like to be able to insert rows to the protect sheet which I have managed to achieve but when I insert the row the formulas do not update in the row.

I was able to create a macro that allows a user to unhide rows in a protected worksheet without unprotecting the other locked fields (see below). My question is: I want to add to this command so that 1 row can not be "unhidden" if the previous row is still hidden. For example, row 25 can not be unhidden if row 24 is still hidden.
Macro command used:
Private Sub Commandbutton4_Click()
Sub Hide_Rows2h()
ActiveSheet.Unprotect Password:="xxx"
Rows("25").Hidden = Not Rows("25").Hidden
ActiveSheet.Protect Password:="xxx"

I have a protected worksheet, which I have 2 macros, 1 to spell check and 1 to insert rows, they both unprotect the sheet and re protect it again once they have completed. The problem I am having is that when I protect the work sheet first time round I tick the box to allow users to insert rows, once the Macros run they disable this functionality. Is there anyway I can include this in my Macros or do I need to add a new button!

I have a worksheet that I have some "locked" cells on. I also have protected the worksheet but when I check to allow users to insert rows and to delete rows and then save it, when I re-open it I can't insert rows or delete rows???
I am using some VBA to allow for the collapseing of rows while maintaining protection and that works perfectly. I want users to be able to insert and delete rows while maintaining protection. I thought a simple check in the protection was good enough, but for some reason it isn't.

I have a worksheet that contains over 15k rows, each row, in column AK has an input of X-123, x123, 123, ENVEL, ROL, WPL-503, etc. there are a total of 20 different inputs. These inputs are found on another file and inputted from with a Vlookup formula.
I tried advanced filter, but it is limited and thought, if I have a command button that opens a userform then I can select which ones I want to be hidden.
I don't know exactly if I should use a checkbox, listbox, combo box ect.

I have a workbook comprising several worksheets and on each of those worksheets I want to hide the rows where there is a zero in each of three specific columns on any row. If there is an entry that is more than zero in any one or more of those columns then the row should not be hidden.
In the attached example I would want to hide rows 4, 8, 12, 18 and 19 as there was a zero in each of the columns C, E and F. I would not want to hide the other rows as they have a figure that does not equal zero in at least one of the columns C, E or F in the row.
a macro for making it work on just one sheet - I can write the code to make it work for each of the worksheets in the book.

I have a worksheet with a large amount of data, but a lot of cells are zero (because the content of the cells is calculated). I would want to be able to build a macro which can hide all the columns whose total is zero, and also all the rows whose total is zero. The amount of columns and rows will be variable, because i expect to keep adding information continuously. The row with the totals to evaluate is 4, and the column with the totals to evaluate is H. (I cannot make a filter for this one, because there's already one some rows upwards).

Is there a simple way to hide rows and columns? A lady in my office just asked me how to make only Columns A to J visible and only show 100 rows. She doesn't want the rest of the spreadsheet to show. I know how to manually hide columns and rows but it takes a while to drag down and select 64000 rows so I thoguht I would ask the question:
Does Excel have a feature that will automatically hide all unused rows and columns or is there a simple VBA code to do this?

1. 123 xxxxx 150
2. 56 xxxxx 50
3. (blank) (blank) xxxxx (blank) (blank)

I've tried using multiple loops in the forum but cannot seem to figure out how to actually get them to work properly using the conditional VBA codes on two separate worksheets. The first code snippet is checking cell values from row 6 to 148 as such:
Sub Check_Shifts()
'Insure all shift entries are completed
If Range("K6").Value < "1" And Range("I6").Value < "1" And Range("G6").Value < "1" Then
Range("G6").Value = Range("F6").Value
Range("I6").Value = Range("F6").Value
Range("K6").Value = Range("F6").Value
ElseIf Range("K6").Value < "1" And Range("I6").Value < "1" Then
Range("I6").Value = Range("G6").Value
Range("K6").Value = Range("G6").Value
ElseIf Range("K6").Value < "1" Then

Getting a macro to work. I've looked through the forums pretty extensively but ad I'm not too hot with the old vba, I haven't been able to get it working.
I have two worksheets in the same workbook. The first worksheet, let's call it Input, is one for data entry; and the second one, let's call in Output, is formatted for printing.
There are 8 drop down boxes from a data validation list, that when a particular option or three are selected, I need the Output worksheet to unhide only the rows associated with those options.
In trying to get this all to work, I'd added a function in the cell to the left of each option in the Output page that will show the text "show" when that option is selected on the Input page, or the text "hide" if not selected.
I think I could do this with some time with a clunky and long macro, but would prefer to us some kind of "for each" option to hide rows that have "hide" shown in column A, as I'm looking at a range of 100~ cells.

Say I have two worksheets, "Sheet1" and "Sheet2". Let's also say A1 in Sheet1 could have one of four values: cat, dog, rabbit, mouse. Now, based on which value cell A1 on Sheet1 is, I need different rows hidden in Sheet 2. For argument sake let's say if cat is chosen rows 1-5 are hidden, if dog, 6-10 and so on.

The workbook has multiple sheets, and a cover sheet. Each project has a sheet and the status, costs, updates ect. are updated to the cover sheet.
Problem:
What happens is there is a cell which has conditional formatting on it, e.g. If text is Green then colour cell green, if cell text is amber then colour amber and if cell text is Red then colour Red. This works fine.
If the cell text is green then I need a number of rows hidden, if it is amber or red then show the rows.
I have found the following
Sub
If Target.Value = 1 Then
Rows(Target.Row).RowHeight=0
Else
End If
End Sub
Which I have changed to:
Sub
If F4.Value = Green Then
Rows("5,6,7,8,9,10.Row).RowHeight=0
Else
End If
End Sub
So this does not work, need to know why and how to make this work for each sheet I am on e.g. ActiveWorksheet?

Hide Columns based on Date value in cell (Worksheet Change event)Looking for a worksheet_change event macro that will automatically hide columns based on a value in cell S3. S3 is a data validation pick list of months based on the 1st day of each (e.g. 1/1/2014, 2/1/2014, 3/1/2014, etc.). I have date columns in row 6 from columns T through AQ. These values are 1/1/2014 (T6), 2/1/2104 (U6), 3/1/2014 (V6)....12/1/2015 (AQ6). I would like to hide columns that have a date in row 6 (T6:AQ6) that is LESS THAN (<) the date in S3 after the cell is value is changed.

I am working on a time management sheet for my company. I need to be able to click a button and have the file search 3 columns for a persons initials and then hide all the rows where the initials are not in at least one of the three columns. I seem to have no problem getting it to work for one column at a time, but as soon as I try to search more than one it all falls apart.
I will also need to create an unhide all button to reset the sheet after the macro has been run.
I have attached a sample of the sheet below. Each project needs to have 3 rows to show the schedule and budget broken down by each team member.
Project Number
Address
Service
PM
SS
