Dec 7, 2008I just discovered VBA coding today and was wondering if I could use it as an audio alert. I found a couple examples online but don’t understand the coding language of excel. I have a feed link from my trading platform to excel that feeds in live data. What I would like to do is have an alert for when Range ("C4").select is >=1000 Alert Ring.wav and when Range ("C4").select is <=-1000 Alert Chimes.wav.

The date of the meetings is in column (A), results are entered in column (B) for a particular event, say 100m sprint. Column (C) & (D) contain formula that recognise if that athletes result is a personal best (PB) result or a club record (CR). I am after a code that will play a sound when a new PB or CR has been achieved. I have downloaded the sounds I want into the office media file. I am new to VB codes. Any suggestions?

SaveAs Triggers ComboBox Change Events
Jan 4, 2009I have a workbook with several worksheets. One sheet ('Forecast') contains 12 ComboBoxes, which, on a Change event, run a series of macros to show the users certain information and provide certain options: protected 'Budget' or 'Actual' data from a hidden datasheet, or unprotected 'Forecast' cells that respond to user changes. In other words, I can't simply use a series of 'If' statements or VLookups with conditional formatting to get around the ComboBoxes.
OK - So in ordinary use, the ComboBoxes and macros are working as intended.
But there is one situation that causes problems:
When a SaveAs command is used to save the model under a different name, all 12 ComboBox Change Events are somehow being triggered.
So what is it about a SaveAs command that triggers ComboBox Change events?!
And whatever it is, can I turn it off?
(This happens in Excel versions 2000, 2003 and 2007.)

Jun 18, 2014I need to know the formula and/or codes to create a trigger on my excel worksheets to send email when an item needs follow-up. The workbook was created on 97-2003 but the outlook program I believe is a later version.
How I can create the email triggers. I am enclosing a copy sample of the spreadsheet I need the Macros attached to (I will need to know how to create/run macros with my spreadsheet. What I need is an email triggered to the sales rep based on the follow-up date. The email should include the quote number and customer name.

Excel 2007 :: Removing Name Triggers Privacy Warning With Every Save
Jul 14, 2010When I duplicated a worksheet in Excel 2007, I received a warning that "A formula or sheet you want to move or copy contains the name ___" (an existing Name) and was given options. The Name in question should not have been relevant because I never intentionally linked it to the worksheet that was being duplicated, but apparently something happened at some point to create such a link.
I opened Name Manager and deleted the Name in question, and this invoked a warning. "Privacy warning: This document contains macros, ActiveX controls, XML expansion pack information, or Web components. These may include personal information that cannot be removed by the Document Inspector." I had no macros. Each time I attempted to save the document, I got this error/warning, even after disabling Macro Security completely.
It was still saving, fortunately, so I closed Excel and relaunched, and the issue seemed to vanish.
Should I be worried about the integrity of my document? Everything seems fine now, but I'm a little concerned.
Macros Crahes - Alert Alert - Shut Down All Systems
Mar 27, 2007Each month I get a report that I process using a macro. The problem is that each month the name of the file changes and is different. When I run the macro and it crashes I have to de-bug by going through the code to change all references to the file name from the the previos run and change to the latest file name and then re-run the macro. There must be a better way.
I would like to learn the code that sees the open book and then refers to it for the run.
What is the best way to do this?

Jul 28, 2007In the worksheet_change event I am calling a method for performing some calculations. The method is called only if certain cells are affected. I want to know the cell values before the event gets triggered.
For eg: Lets say Cell A1: 10 Cell A2: 20 I select both A1 & A2 and click on delete. Then I want to obtain the values 10 & 20 in the method called. Is this possible? Currently If I do Cell.value it returns blank.

I tried putting that code in the Worksheet_Change event but it only works if the user physically changes the cell, not if it's changed by a web query. So how can I run code that triggers when a cell is changed by a web query?

Sep 9, 2009I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet used to calculate doses of medication. The value of several cells will depend on what optionbuttons the user selects.
I have entered the first two lines of code below w/o a problem to make certain calculations that are displayed in the specified cells.
I then tried to make an additional calculation to display in cell 6,9, but it always triggers a "Application-defined or object-defined error". For troubleshooting purposes, I moved that line of code directly under the other two lines of similar code that I know work, and simplified the problem line to just arbitrarily set the value of the cell to a value of 2 (instead of the actual formula); it still triggers the error.

Display Alert On Excel Start
Sep 12, 2008I have created a program to display an Alert based on a Date. I have this program enlcosed in the Workbook Open event. I need to popout this alert everyday, everytime EXCEL starts on a computer.
I had something in my mind though - I thought of plonking this program into the Workbook Open event of the Personal.xls workbook for a computer and thereby I could have achieved my requirement of popping out this alert everytime when Excel starts. However, there is one problem here. Every 3 to 5 days the dates in the workbook are going to change and I do not want the user to tamper with Personal.xls on his / her computer.
So I gave it a second thought. I created a shortcut of this workbook and placed it in the XLSTART folder for a computer and now the problem is - it opens the workbook itself rather than popping out the alert whenever Excel starts on the computer. So this would not work too.
Is there any other way I can make the alert pop out everytime I start Excel on a computer ?

Feb 27, 2014 Currently I am working on a workbook where I am using a Save As VBA to create a folder and rename the file. The following code seems to be working fine so far with Excel 2007. Is there a way to confirm that it will work with all other versions of Excel and that my DesktopFolderPath String will work on all users machines?
In addition to these concerns, I am trying to avoid any Runtime Errors and currently, the Compatability Alert is the only thing I can see that is creating one. When it displays, in the event the user is unsure what to do, as most of our field staff is, and they select "Cancel" it displays the error Run Time Error.jpg. Can the Compatibility Alert be disabled? If so where do i add it in my code.

Dec 20, 2012I open a spreadsheet or workbook that has links to other workbooks I am notified by the message bar that content has been blocked. I click Options > Enable this content > OK. Even if I don't make any changes I'm prompted to save changes when I close the file. If I hit Yes or if I hit No, I will still be prompted to enable content in the message bar the next time I open the same file.
I have changed the External Content settings in the Trust Center to "Enable all data connections (not recommended)" and "Enable automatic update for all workbook links (not recommended)" but I still get the messages.
My Message Bar is set to "Show the message bar in all applications when content is blocked" because I read on Microsoft KB that the other option of "never show information about blocked content" will still block the content, just not tell you about it, which doesn't fix my issue.
The files I'm opening and the files linked to and from them are all on the same shared drive on a file server in the office. Is there a way to tell Office '07 that our file drive is a trusted source by default?

One of the columns refers to the date on which a new application for funding can be made to that particular funder.
In many cases new applications for funding can't be made for 1 or more years since the last application - sometimes as many as 5 years later. How to get a cell to refer to the date that it contains.
For example, say I have in cell A1 "The Acme Funding Organisation" and in cell B1 (i.e. the "Reapply when?" column) a date of 01/04/2013 (British date format, i.e. 1 April 2013) then what I want Excel to do is to look at the date in cell B1 and if that date has been reached to highlight the cell red. That way I'll know that the reapply date has been reached & that a new application can be made.

I need a formula to change the colour of cells B, C, D & E when each inspection is due depending on the date entered in A
I am hoping its possible that the cell colour can stay for 2 days after the due date and then return back to blank after the second day.
For example if cell A1 has a date of January 1 2013 then on January 8 2013 cell B1 turns red then on January 10 2013 the cell returns back to normal.
