I have a speadsheet containing many rows and columns of customer orders, each row being an individual order. Column A is a unique numeric order identifier (the numbers are not ordered and also not in sequence - for example, the first 5 rows order numbers will be 6, 18, 3, 194, 52), Column B is the customers name, Column C is the address, etc etc etc.
I would like to create a 2nd worksheet which starts by taking a 20% random sample of the data in ColumnA in the first worksheet, and placing it in Column A of the second worksheet.
I have some VBA (using Excel 2007) that deletes and re-creates a bunch (20-ish) checkboxes in a spreadsheet. Since i'm using the controls-based checkboxes, Excel defaults them to object names of "CheckBox1, CheckBox2, CheckBox3, etc" as I create them the first time around.
Later on, i clear all checkboxes and implement the SAME checkbox-creating code to re-create all or some of the checkboxes, but Excel doesn't number them in order the second time around! I end up with something like "CheckBox2, CheckBox19, CheckBox3, CheckBox12, etc."
What could be causing my code to create things out of order the second time around? Is there a way to reset Excel's Checkbox-numbering iterator?
The code i'm using to create checkboxes is:
Dim x As Long Dim BoxCell As String
BoxCell = "" x = 0 'j gets passed into the sub as a "Long" somewhere between the values of 5 and 35
I'm at a stand-still again, as my current task calls for a way to communicate between Access and Excel. I know where the data I want in my Excel workbook is, and there's a query in place to pull it into a table. What I'm trying to do is write a macro that will open that particular table in Access, run the query, select the table, open a particular worksheet in my workbook, and then paste the data in.
This isn't hard to do by hand, besides finding the right database among a mess of others. But I want someone who isn't me to be able to get ahold of the same data by running the macro. It'll make less work for me in the long run.
In an earlier life I was tasked with finding a "random" method of selecting two numbers from a "1 to 20" range so that the generated numbers can be applied to an set of people who will be partnered in a golf game draw.
It is only one draw per year so I don't care if the players have previously played together in past years.
easily be modified by a "passable knowledge level" person to be able to select a mystery "9" out of 18 holes that count for scores that particular round.
(btw: this is an issue only for the 20 guys who go away once a year to play golf, the world will not collapse if I have to draw numbers out of a hat, just looking for a slightly more elegant solution and I already have a few scoring macros so my first guess (but not only possibility) is VBA)
I have a function that loops through sheets and opens a query and copys the information to a sheet. I have gone in the access db and updated the query. Yet everytime i call it in excel it returns the old data. I have gone into access and verified what data I should get and I just don't get it.
I pass in the query name and the sheet name into qryName and sheetName name.
Code: Dim cnn As ADODB.Connection Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset Dim sQRY As String Dim strFilePath As String
I have created a query in an Access database which returns multiple results. I need to be able to run this query within Excel, but only showing the total of the results in a single cell.
I also need to run it multiple times on the same sheet using different dates. The Access query asks for a date each time it's run
I have only found ways to retrieve the entire results of the query into Excel based on the settings within the query.
I am working on a Random Cycle Count Generator that provides random SKU#s based on 3 separate columns of SKU listings. The user clicks a button to generate the SKU#s to cycle count for that day. What I would like to see is a date stamp in the columns next(B,D,F) to the referenced SKU listing(A,C,E) based on which SKU#s are generated. This will let me see the last date that the SKU was generated. I would also like it to automatically save after generating.
I have an MS Access query that contains a parameter. The parameter is a date field, and I have configured that in the Access query. If I run the query within the MS Access user interface, it prompts me for the paramater value as expected, and runs just fine. However, I want to connect to this query from within Excel as a data source.
I have created a connection to the Access file using ODBC from within Excel. In the MS Query window, I am merely selecting all of the fields resident in the MS Access query, and returning all values. In other words, there is no selection criteria in the MS Query. I have done this many times with Access queries that DO NOT contain a parameter, and everything works fine. However, in this instance, I need to pass a parameter through to MS Access in order for the query to run. At the moment, I get the "Too Few Paramaters...1 expected" error message. This makes sense, because I haven't figured out how to pass the paramater to MS Access.
Is there a way to structure this that does not involve VB code? If so, I'd love to know how. I have tried creating parameters in MS-Query with the same name, but although I get the prompt it doesn't connect with the Access query as the source for the parameter value.
If the solution requires using code, I'm good with VB Code in Excel...is there VB for Excel code that could make this happen?
Failing that, I guess there must be (I've seen a few in my search thus far) Access VB Code that can make this work. I'm very rusty using VB with Access, so this is my least favored solution. However, if this is the only option, keep in mind that I need to pass the paramater ultimately from a user who will initiate the process using Excel.
Need the query parameters which takes the date from the cell into the query. How should I modify my query if it needs to take the date from a cell?? The bold one date should be picked from one of the cell in sheet 2.
My query is this WEB 1 http://fc-web-phl1-101.phl1:8090/gp/...runReport.y=12
I have a csv file on another drive on the network that i need to query. I believe that ms query would be the best way. I know that a DSN needs to be setup but this macro will be used by various users who wont know how to do that. thus I would like to create one via VBA every time the task needs to be run. I haven't a clue how to do this and i need it to be explained to me in general terms with words of one syllable!
I'm trying to query a query in Access 2003, from Excel 2003.
The query in Access looks like: AccessQuery: [SELECT VBAFunction(field1) FROM Table]
The query in Excel looks like: ExcelQuery: [SELECT * FROM AccessQuery]
I use the following VBA code in Excel to excecute the query:
With ThisWorkbook.Worksheets(cDataSheetName).QueryTables.Add(Connection:=strConnection, _ Destination:=ThisWorkbook.Worksheets(cDataSheetName).Range("A1"), Sql:=strQuery) .RowNumbers = True .Refresh BackgroundQuery:=False iResultRowCount = .ResultRange.Rows.Count End With When I execute this code I get the error message 'SQL Syntax Error' (Error 1004). When I remove the VBA function from the query in Access, it all works fine.
I created an Ms Excel Database Query to bring in data from MS Access. (versions 2002 of MS Excel and Ms Access). The query works fine initially. I can right click, choose Edit Query and change my criteria. Results are returned almost instantly.
My problem is that, once I save the workbook, or autosave happens, I get an error when I right-click to Edit Query: This query cannot be edited by the Query Wizard..
I am trying to create formula that will show overtime worked in a given day. The code I am using is a simple one ([ cell - 8], for hours worked). The problem is when the time cells are blank/not used it shows a -8 in the cell. what I need to do to create a code that will eliminate the -8 from showing. The cell its self is taking the result from another cell with a formula and then subtracting 8 from the result of the formula in the other cell.
Is it possible to set parameters on a query but use a wildcard to return all instances? I have a query that I want to be able to set multiple parameters on but give the user the ability to select as many or as few parameters as they want to see. 2 of the parameters are number fields and 2 are text fields with no spaces.
I have a range that has formulas that are based on other fcells outside the range.
What I want to do is, if the cell has a value to remove the formula and paste the results. If the filed is blank (no results from the formula) to leave the formula in place.
There could be a marco to run when this process is needed.
How do I make a row of 5 random numbers in A2:A6 that are not the same as each other. It's basically for a Bingo card. I have a formula that can calculate the random numbers =INT(RAND()*15)+1 under the B's for example, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it so they are not the same.
i am in charge of making an assignment list in my classroom .
cells A1 all the way to A20 have a single childs name in them.
in the corresponding box ,B1 which is next to the first name and B2 next to name 2 , etc etc. i would like to put 3 random chores they need to do for the week. the first chore being in column B the second chore in C and thirs chore in D . in other words, each child listed in column A , 1-20 will have 3 chores to do over the week .
all 3 chores for each child will be in the same numbered row as their name.
i have a list of all the chores at the bottom of the spreadsheet, theyre from A20 to A40 (20 chores in a row) . i want excel to randomly put A20-A40 in the corresponding boxes next to the kids names.
im tired of having to mix all their chores up for the week next to their names.
I have been thinking about a name selection tool that would automatically pick a few names for internal audit. I can handle the useform launch and other basics but here is what I see happening.
1. The empname! sheet contains a list of all the company employees, with employee number in column A, names in column B and an "X" or blank in column C.
2. The main sheet called auditmaster! contains nothing currently
3. When the code is ran the userform prompts the user to select how many individuals to audit by entering an integer in a textbox.
4. If the user selects 5 for instance, the code will run and will select 5 random employees for internal audit. It does this by first checking column A of the empname! sheet and seeing what the highest and lowest numbers are. This would create the range for the random function.
Next if there is an "X" in column C of empname! sheet, those employees numbers are excluded from the random choice.
Following this the function will select the appropriate number of individuals to audit using random again and place their names/number on the masteraudit! sheet.
The detail should be placed as the following, employee number goes to column F, name to column G. Starting with row 10. The code should also number the results 1 - however many were selected for audit in column E.
I have a list of names in Column A going from row 2 to 15. I want to randomly assign them a number ranging from 1-14, but that random number can not be assigned twice. I only need each number once.
I was looking for some code to randomly generate a number for a prize draw I am doing. I found a great piece on this site, which I have slightly changed to give me what I have below.
It works great except for one thing I cannot work out, I have the code below working on cell "C1", I would like it to work in cell "C5", but I can't seem to work this out.
Sub SlotsNum() Dim w As Long, x As String, y As Long Randomize x = Format(Int((Range("B2") - Range("B1") + 1) * Rnd + Range("B1")), "0000") For y = 1 To 1 For w = 1 To 250 Range("C" & y) = Int(8000 * Rnd) Next w Range("C" & y) = CInt(Mid(x, y, 4)) Next y End Sub
Also, whilst here. i will have one other problem, with it being a prize draw I do not want to draw the same number twice. At the moment I have a small macro that copies the winning name that appears on the main screen (via a vlookup) onto a winners spreadsheet. I am thinking of then creating another macro that replaces the winning name on the master list with an "Already Won" entry, so we can just select again.
I have a worksheet that has weekly meeting dates in column A and in columns B through M different responsibilities/task. Each week, I have to schedule 1 person to perform each task. A person can only perform 1 task each week. I have a list of 40 people that are eligible to do this.
Currently I am assigning each person to a task while trying to evenly assign people and space out the timing as to how often they're assigned. Of course, being human has led my results to both favor and overlook some people. Is there a way to randomly assign any 12 people from my list into each week?
