Is there a way to rename every file in a folder and subsequent sub-folders to begin with a number in memory? Say my number in memory is 5000, I'd like all the files to be renamed something like this:
5000Picture.jpg
5000bookreview.txt
5000startmanual.img
5000HighFive.mov
-->5000SUBFOLDER01
----->5000SUBFOLDER02
I have a simple code that should insert the text at the beginning of the text file (the text file already has some text in it). When i use the following code, it just appends the line to the end of the text. I need it to append it to the start of the text file.

Is there a way that I could monitor the number of files in a folder and its contents (including subfolders)?
Folder A: (total count of files)
Subfolder
Folder A.1 no. of files containing boy
Folder A.2 no. of files containing girl
Folder A.3 no. of files containing boys and girls
a method of accessing all files within a folder to get the number of rows/records and contents of "A2".
The file could ideally look at the current folder it's in and collect the requested data.
Hopefully I can work and develop the code to suit.
I need a macro in a workbook to look at all the files in the same folder that have "*att*.xls" in the name and determine and copy from the range A15:W515 only the rows that have data in at least columns A, C and D. Each file will vary as to how many rows there will be and there are more than the files with "*att*.xls" in the folder. The data will be on the only worksheet in each file and the worksheet is named "G2WAttendee_xls" the data from all the files need to be copied to the file called "Consolidated webinar reports.xls" (I am using Excel 2003) and to a sheet called "Attendance Data" and added to the end of the last paste.
At the start of the macro the current file "Consolidated webinar report.xls" should be saved to a sub folder of the current directory and have the date saved added to the name. The sub folder is called "Completed reports". The data in the original file on worksheet "Attendance Data" should be deleted.
At the end of the process all the files that have had data copied from them should be moved to the sub folder "Attendance reports consolidated" (This could be done as each file is closed if that is easier).
I have headings in row 1 of the "Attendance Data" worksheet that match the headings in the various files in the folder (which will always be in row 14 of the individual "*att*.xls" files).
The folder with all the files and the "Consolidated webinar report.xls" file is at path "Z:P and S MEvaluationsWebinar series 2012-13TB".
I am trying to compare 2 excel files (main and monthly) and append the new records in to the main file that will have several more columns than the monthly file. So the Main file will have all the records of previous months, and will be compared against a new monthly file to make sure only new records are added from the monthly file in all the six sheets. The columns are exactly the same in all the sheets. Except for the main file which as mentioned will have several more columns for other details. How can I do this? I have been searching a lot but couldnt find what I exactly was looking for. As an example I have attached 2 files. obviously the real files have much more data. The second part is how to modify the already existing records in the Main file when same record in Monthly file changes. this is later.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am absolutely new to VBA and trying to create a macro for work. We get daily files with almost the same headers that needs to be consolidated at the end of every month. The headers on the files are usually the same, except at times an extra column may be added at the beginning.
I need a macro to do the following-
Prompt to select the desired files.
Read the headers and append only the desired header columns from these files to a master file(these are Account, User, Modified By, Version). The headers are present in row A. Also, the master file should select the header from the first file only and hence take only the data (row B) from the second file onwards so that the headers are not repeated in the middle in the master file.
In the master table, add a new column at the end which will be the name of the file.
In the master file generated, filter on the column "Version" and delete all the rows except Version="1.0"
Lastly, there are certain values in the excel files that need to be changed. So I need a replace function to change those values.

I have about 100 csv files of the same format that I would like to append into a single master file. Order is not important for appending (I can do a column sort later) I can do copying and pasting, but this will take a long time especially because I will creating more master files from completely different CSVs in the future. Is there a faster way to append CSV files?
I want to allow users to place files (.jpg, .tif, .pdf, .pps etc) into a network folder and then have my program open each file and display it for 30 seconds then close the file and the application before opening the next file.

I need some code that will allow me to easily send it a filename and it will know how to close the file and the application that opened it.
I have an Excel application (Excel 2003) which is stored in the default Program Files folder by the Installer; for example: c:program fileszxchello.xls. The problem I am running into is this file opens as Read Only in Vista and this is interfering with the running of the application. There is no problem opening the file normally in Windows XP.
I have been able to narrow down the cause of this to the User Account Control system in Vista - if I turn OFF User Account Control, the Excel file opens normally and my application functions normally. Is there another option to open the Excel file without turning OFF User Account Control because some users may find it unacceptable to turn OFF this security feature. Ofcourse, one option is to install the application in another location, outside the Program Folder, and the file would open normally, but the Packaging Wizard that I am using to package the application does not allow me to install the application in any other location and thus, the application installs in the Program Folder and I am running into this problem of the Exel file opening as Read Only. Is there a way out of this situation where I can open the file normally (not as Read Only)?
In column A, I have many entries such as AA-1, AA-2, BB-1, BB-2, AA-3, etc.
How do you count the number of entries for only those beginning with "AA" or beginning with "BB"?
I receive 24,000 text files once a month that need to be combined into one csv/txt file and/or spreadsheet(tab).

Unfortunately, the format in which the text files are ouput has changed, as has the filename layout. The files are now output with filenames such as:
(lic#, company name, displaying # records found, date, type.txt)

But the requirement is to have 2 sheets in each new file. first to be the full file - with all columns, and in the second sheet to keep only colum A B D G H K L M O P R S T V W from the first sheet. I have a very long list of international phone numbers in a .csv format that I need to put a zero in front of each one. We are doing an international autodialer campaign for an upcoming event and need the zeros at the beginning to pay for the call. How do you get around Excel not allowing a zero at the front of a number and the .csv format not allowing you to save certain formats? I've been searching the archived posts for a hour now and can't find anything on this!

Example below of the data I have. I need to convert dates into DD.MM.YY (8 chars) for SAP. I receive spreadsheets where the date is dd/mm/yy and I use the replace to convert the "/" to ".", then format this column as TEXT. My problem is some of these sheets have hundreds of records and rather than individually scroll through and look for data that requires the "0", is there a way to insert this. I can custom format that it looks as it has the zero, but it is not in the true data.

11.10.12 this is correct
3.11.12 data should be 03.11.12
3.06.12 data should be 03.06.12 etc
Is there a code that will search a pre-determined folder for all .xls files containing the word "Temp", and deleting those files?
Example:
In the root of drive M, I have several Excel files. Anytime one of the original tracking logs is opened, a temp file of that log is automatically created. I would like to automatically search the drive and delete all files containin the word "Temp".
I've attached a picture of the directory tree, in case that will help. The file will always be named "PO Response Tracking - Temp#######.xls", with ###### representing a series of either 5 or 6 numbers.

I have an Invoice setup for a Car Servicing Garage in excel. It does a few things:
1) On saving the workbook it will take a jpeg screenshot of the worksheet and save it locally
2) The name of the created jpeg file is taken from cell B9
Cell B9 contains the vehicle registration number. So, obviously my problem is that if a the same car comes in on more than one occasion (which happens frequently), the original jpeg will be replaced as the file name is not appended. This will mess up the invoice records. So what I would like is for it to acknowledge that a jpeg file with that name already exists and to just append a "_1", "_2", "_3" etc on the end of the original jpeg file name for the new jpeg file name. I have attached the my excel file so ideally, if someone could insert the necessary code or PM me that would be great.

I need to generate an ID number for transactions. This ID number is the Account Code-Last Two #s of the Year-Unique 3-Digit Number. So for instance, 5022-14-001 means it is the first transaction from account 5022 in the year 2014.
Column A has the Account Codes. Column B has the date of the transaction in MM/DD/YYYY format. So far the formula I have is:

With ???? being some function or set of nesting functions I need to create the sequential number. It needs to be able to say "Okay, this is the third instance of there being a 5022-14, so we need to stick -003 at the end of this."
Additionally, this "003" needs to be frozen, so if we change how the sheet is sorted and the line item moves around, it will still always be "003".
I have a column with a general format that looks like this: "057828001 - WACS - Irving".
I need to remove the latter part of the value " - WACS - Irving"
I am doing that by using the replace all and typing in "-*"; that gives me a result of 57828001.
I need a result of 057828001.

While this is not horrible, it is quite tedious to do several thousand times.
Thus, I was wondering if it were possible to create a Macro that would open up all files in a specific folder, then select each one and paste the relevant data into my original spreadsheet. I know this possible for specific files; for example, I have created a Macro that will select files data.xls, dats1.xls, data2.xls, and paste these into the spreadsheet, but I was wondering if there was a way to generalize this so that it will simply open every file regardless of the name or how many files there are in the specific folder.
