I have a column of data that is given to me that is a mix of letters and numbers and I need the numbers to have leading zeros, they must all be three digits. The data has either 3, 4, or 5 letters followed by numbers 1 through 999. Example: ABCD7 I need to change it to ABCD007. I am using Excel 2004 for the Mac.
I'm trying to format an Excel 2010 spreadsheet so that I can import it into another application. I need to convert a number to text with four digits and a leading apostrophe - '0000 for example. How do I do this without having to type everything in manually?
I have a macro that goes out to a database and pulls in updated numbers. However the numbers come in as text because they have leading 0's:
011204 011208 011209 015942 017536
The only way I can get the numbers formatted as a number and drop the leading 0 is to click on the yellow exclamation tab that pops up and click, Convert to Number. Is there any way I can write this into my macro to automatically do for me? I tried selecting the column and reformatting this way but it would not drop the leading zero:
I'm trying to convert a set of numbers between 1 and 9999 into text strings, with the number at the end as a four digit string, so 1 becomes "COLUMN0001", 123 becomes "COLUMN0123", etc. In excel, it would be easy - I would just use the text function and convert the number to a string and append it to the word COLUMN, but as far as I know, there isn't an equivalent function in excel and running excel functions in VBA is notoriously slow (especially as I will need to do this about 360,000 times).
Is there a formula that will add a number, in sequence, to the end of a text string to avoid duplicates?
I need to generate an ID number for transactions. This ID number is the Account Code-Last Two #s of the Year-Unique 3-Digit Number. So for instance, 5022-14-001 means it is the first transaction from account 5022 in the year 2014.
Column A has the Account Codes. Column B has the date of the transaction in MM/DD/YYYY format. So far the formula I have is:
With ???? being some function or set of nesting functions I need to create the sequential number. It needs to be able to say "Okay, this is the third instance of there being a 5022-14, so we need to stick -003 at the end of this."
Additionally, this "003" needs to be frozen, so if we change how the sheet is sorted and the line item moves around, it will still always be "003".
I have 2 related columns with one to many relationship, on a tab populated with some data. On another tab I'm referencing these 2 columns. When I populate one column I would like a drop down showing all the related data from the 2nd column of the first tab in the 2nd tab. I'm unable to do a named range as my first column has spaces in its name.
I have a spreadsheet that was given to me o work on that has a field that contains an ID #. I need to import the file into Access after massaging it a little. The table that it will be imported to requires eight digits including leading zeroes. The data in the ID field of the spreadsheet I was given is displayed in the correct eight digit format, but the actual data is missing the leading zeroes so when I try to import it, I lose them. Is there a quick way to reformat that field in the spreadsheet to add the leading zeroes to the data?
Here's what the field looks like:
Displayed: Data stored as:
ID ID --------- --------- 00568695 568695 10423568 10423568 02389999 2389999 00023567 23567
I have two or more fields of data, where parts of them are auto populated based on inputs from elsewhere. That part i have working fine, however the problem arises in taking that information and displaying it as a Bill of Materials list on another tab in my excel file. I want to take the information, and only display it in the BOM tab if that piece of information is being used (ie item count field not being 0). I know how to do that part in a rather simple format, however i'd prefer to make it so that when i have the list, and a certain item isn't used then its not included in the BOM, and an empty space is not left behind. I would prefer this to be all be done automatically by a formula if possible instead of just having to resort to sorting the table every time the tool is being used.
Is this even possible in excel, A quick example doc is attached, shows 2 example fields. i'd like to take the information from those 2 fields. and somehow create a single list, with a single heading along the top, with all row containing a 0 "Unit Count" to be omitted entirely from the list, and not have a blank space where the item should be. Keep in mind these fields may be greater than 2, and may not be position one after the other in a strait down line.
I am looking for a solution to split text from numbers.I have found a couple examples on the web but I cannot get the examples to work with the correct syntax to function.
Sample cells. The string could be any integer or floating point number with text. (The text is always after the number.)
I need excluding text from a cell and come out with a random number up to 3 numbers. Please see the attached image;
If you notice in column D there is text and a number that starts with a decimal, for example on the first row is .437 the next row is .215 next row is .63 etc... Is there a way to come out with a random number mixing it up to 3 digits and output those number on column "E"? Im only interested in filtering and coming out with the random number i mentioned .437 .215 .63 etc... not the +/-.010in.
There is no right or wrong number, i just need to come out with random number using up to 3 numbers up.
Maybe for .437 three numbers up could be .440 for the next row .215 maybe a number up .216..etc..
Hope there is a way to do this, my excel file is too long to type a number manually.
I have a macro that imports a report. If the Charge Type in column A is BTOREPLX, I need to prefill the field next to it in column B with the text "REPLX", e.g. "REPLXCDROM". I've attached an example of the report.
I've got a sheet in which I want a drop down box, to ADD the value* to a cell, not overwriting its current value!
*The name of the selected option in the drop down box, the names are located in Map3!A1-n, I set the drop down box to display the related number in a cell next to it.
The cell would contain some text, and by selecting something in the drop down box, it would add the name of that option to the already existing value in the cell.
So if at first the cell's value is
Hi! I 'm Mark,
and you select the following option from the dropdown box
I 'm from Holland!
the cell would end with the value
Hi! I 'm Mark, I'm from Holland!
This would probably work with a macro, already made a start with it but I couldn't get it to ADD the value instead of overwriting it.
I have the following script which is working fine execpt for its limited to running the loop 10 times. The macro is looking for files where the file extension could be anything between .P01 and .P99. Currently, the macro looks for file.P01 then file.P02 etc until it gets to file.P09 by increasing the value of 'i'. The trouble I am having is to get the variable 'i' to have a leading zero when the value is less than 10.
Sub rename_print_files()
Dim OldName, NewName Dim i As Integer Dim strResult, strOldName, strNewName As String
Range("E14").Activate ' set first file Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Is there a way to rename every file in a folder and subsequent sub-folders to begin with a number in memory? Say my number in memory is 5000, I'd like all the files to be renamed something like this:
I have an Invoice setup for a Car Servicing Garage in excel. It does a few things:
1) On saving the workbook it will take a jpeg screenshot of the worksheet and save it locally
2) The name of the created jpeg file is taken from cell B9
Cell B9 contains the vehicle registration number. So, obviously my problem is that if a the same car comes in on more than one occasion (which happens frequently), the original jpeg will be replaced as the file name is not appended. This will mess up the invoice records. So what I would like is for it to acknowledge that a jpeg file with that name already exists and to just append a "_1", "_2", "_3" etc on the end of the original jpeg file name for the new jpeg file name. I have attached the my excel file so ideally, if someone could insert the necessary code or PM me that would be great.
I have saved an Excel file based on today’s date using: ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs "S:MTL_DATA Stock Orders" & "Stock_Order_" & oname & Format(Date, "dd-mm-yy") & ".xls"
If I wish to save a second file in the same day I wish to save as the date with “_1” or date with “_2” for the third file etc. How do I alter the above code?
I am having problems adding data to exisiting text in each row of column E. The following macro is replacing the current text in each row with "V-1954". I need it to add "V-1954" to the begining of the text in each row of column E not over write it.
Range("D2").Select Do Until IsEmpty(ActiveCell.Value) 'Fill in Column E ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Value = "V-1954" 'Move down one cell ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select Loop
I would like to append data from Columns A-F to a text file. The key thing is that the data needs to be tab separated just as it would be if I simply highlighted it and copied it and the pasted it into the text file.
I'm using Excel 2007 and am using a look up formula =isna(match( cell, cell range, 0)) to see whether a number in one column occurs in another column.
I have been doing this process successfully for over a year on Excel 2003 and more recently on Excel 2007. This is until today, when it's stopped doing what I expect - could I have changed a setting?
The correct number format for this sheet should be 0000 (so now '67' will appear as '0067' or '290' will appear as '0290' etc.) So I have applied this Custom Format to my columns: '0000' After applying the Custom Format to the spreadsheet the numbers appear correctly - 560 now appears as 0560 - BUT in the formula bar they still only appear as the original format - so 560 is STILL 560 rather than 0560 as it should be!
As a result of this, my look up is not looking for the number in the new format, it's still looking for the number in its original format - so a look up for 0560 is actually returning results for anything with 560 in it: 560, 5600, 5601, 56000, 56007 etc. I need my look up to be looking for 0560 NOT 560.
How do I force the numbers to become 4 digits in the formula bar so that my look up for 0560 only finds a match with a cell containing 0560 and not 560, 5600, 5601, 56000, 56007 etc.
I am trying to find a formula that will count the number of unique entries there. I have tried the solutions posted on various websites to no avail (most recently:
I am looking for a macro to convert a 6 digital serial number into an 8 digit serial number by adding "00" to the front. ie. The cell may say 123456, but I need to change it to display 00123456.
I have a simple code that should insert the text at the beginning of the text file (the text file already has some text in it). When i use the following code, it just appends the line to the end of the text. I need it to append it to the start of the text file.
Code:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() Dim file As String lastrow = Range("D65536").End(xlUp).Row - 4 file = "C:Users11126923Desktop est.txt" Open file For Append As #1 f = "hi test3" Print #1, f Close End Sub
I want to open multiple .csv files from a single directory and append them to one workbook. The following code partly works, but appends only the first line from each file.
Sub GetFiles() Dim w As Worksheet, fn As String, k As Long Application. ScreenUpdating = False Set w = ActiveSheet k = Cells(65536, 1).End(xlUp).Row If Not IsEmpty(Cells(k, 1)) Then k = k + 1 fn = Dir("*.csv") While fn <> "" Workbooks.OpenText Filename:=fn, Origin:=xlWindows, StartRow:=1, _ DataType:=xlDelimited, TextQualifier:=xlDoubleQuote, ConsecutiveDelimiter:=False, _ Tab:=False, Semicolon:=False, Comma:=True, Space:=False, Other:=False Rows(1).Copy w.Rows(k) k = k + 1 ActiveWorkbook.Close False fn = Dir Wend Application.CutCopyMode = False End Sub
I write a daily status report that adds my daily comment to a cell with previous text in it. I then paste it in three other cells. This process is slow and tedious since the text in the cell is now becoming extremely long due to organizational and managerial restraints of the existing format. I use cut and paste and manual enter, a alt + enter, to space new comment. I would like to be able to enter the text in a cell and have it update the comment cell with the text in it and to update the text box. I have reviewed the forum and have yet to find the answer and use of how else to pose the questions.
I need help looking at text in a cell that has [] around it such as [big red trucks] and copy that text to the end of the cell and replace the "space' between the words and add '+' signs so the result looks like [big red trucks] [big+red+trucks].
example:
This is what the cell looks like before
[big red trucks] cost 5000 in store
This is what the cell needs to look like after
[big red trucks] cost 5000 in store[big+reg+trucks]
there may be additional text after the ']', I need the phrase with the + signs copied to the end of the cell
