Applying Named Ranges To Pivot Table
Oct 6, 2008
I have a range of data that is added to constently. I named the range "Download" and defined it as =Indirect(Sheet1!B3) where Sheet1!B3 has another formula which produces the range of the data. I want to apply the named range to a pivot table so that when it updates, the range is updated as well but i'm not sure on how to do this. I put the word "download" in the range input of the pivot table wizard but it results in an error and doesn't complete. how can i set the pivot table's range to the named range that I defined?

Instead of Excel creating a new sheet when I double click on the results of a pivot table, is it possible to just filter the results of the original source data's sheet?
Here is my situation, I have source data that needs to be updated after someone double clicks on the pivot table data. They won't be able to update the source data if it just creates a new sheet (since it's a copy).
I'm running Excel 2003.

I have just created a pivot table, however, i have just put the range to the cells that have data in them. The problem is, is that i want to make the cell range bigger, but the cells that i want to include do not have data YET, but will in the future. I have tried creating the pivot tables including the cells with no values, but it ends up puting 1 into the pivot tables cells for some reason.

I have a sheet that is a download off of another system every month which means that the number of rows change from month to month. I have a pivot table of this data as well but I want it to change it's data range as it changes month to month. I have a Formula in cell C1 that defines the range, the formula is ="A5"&":"&"S"&B1 {B1 being the =COUNTA(A:A)}
Which yields A5:S31. Logically the way I thought this would work is by setting the Pivot Table range to : =Indirect(com.jdedwards.jas!$C$1) But this is not allowed as the range in a pivot table must be more than two rows. The second thing I tried was naming the range. I went to insert->Name->define and set the name to "Download" and the range to =Indirect(com.jdedwards.jas!$C$1). it didn't give me any errors but now I don't know how to set the pivot table to that named range and i don't even know if that is really going to work.

I need to read consantly changing shift time/ covered data from a Pivot Tables pivot chart and populate this data into number of shifts covered/ uncovered. This information is then put into a chart over a 24 hour period (from 0700 to 0700). I have been populating the data from the pivot chart by hand by referencing the number of shifts in the covered line and dragging it to correspond to the shift time data part. I then have to do this for the uncovered shifts. As the data in the pivot chart is constantly changing, i need to do this data ransfer 'automatically'. I have started to look at and learn VBA, but i am getting nowhere fast. I enclose a worksheet (blank) to give you an idea fo what i am trying to do.

I have 3 tabs in my spreadsheet that I want to combine in a Pivot Table. All 3 tabs have the exact same headings in Columns A-J. I want to create a pivot table to pull in all the data from the 3 tabs while using the Current Column headings to create the pivot table. But the pivot table wizard is only giving me "ROW" and "COLUMN" which does not allow any flexibility to create the table the way I want and move the various column data around.
Is there a better way to Pivot Table data from the separate tabs? My data on each tab is changed weekly and I was hoping to just update the pivot table when the data changed..

My boss asked me to format a pivot table like this with irregular ranges:
I've had a crack (as seen below and have gotten everything right except the strange group irregular ranges. I'm stumped! I'm not sure if pivot tables even have a function for irregular group ranges.
My raw data looks like here is its layout:

I have a workbook that contains 52 spreadsheets (one for each week of the year). Each contain the same column headings. The columns contain both numberic and text data which I need to pivot. I can individually pivot each sheet to obtain weekly data but I would like to obtain year to date data throughout the year. How can I merge all of my 52 sheets together to utilize just one pivot table.

I am using Excel 2007. I have a population that I used to create a pivot table. I am currently double clicking on the value cells to create worksheets of only particular "row label" categories. I am then copying the "row label" information into the newly generated work sheet name tab. This works fine when I only have a few "row label" categories to do but it is tedious if there are many categories.
Is there any way to automate the creation of work sheets for all row label values and also naming each work sheet tab with it's respective row label information. Here are images of the pibot table and the type of work sheet I would like for wall row label values.

I have written this macro to convert into a csv file to run for all defined named ranges in the activesheet. It run jst perfect when I hit SAVE button and it creates that many different CSV files for each named range.
However I am trying to use same macro in the another file and the problem I am facing is there a lot more named ranges and I want to run the macro for only selected NAMED RANGE. In this case 2 Named Range / 24 Named range.
What part of code do I need to change and to what to make it work for just 2 named ranges ?

I have a named range of values on Sheet2 (GPI). Sheet1 is an OLAP pivot table containing row label (GPI 14) and values (Net Rx Count) only.
Unfiltered this list is over 7,000 rows. I need VBA code to display only those rows where the GPI 14 value matches any value in the named GPI range on Sheet2.
In other words how can I display the select rows without manually selecting the items of interest AND without manually hard coding the values in the code as they will change.
Below is 1 of the many codes I tried. This appears to be the most intuitive but I get an 'invalid procedure" error at Set my PivotTable...
'Sub PivotAnalysis()
'
Dim myPivotTable As Excel.PivotTable
Dim myPivotField As Excel.PivotField
Dim myPivotItem As Excel.PivotItem

I have a set of four pivot tables on a sheet that I need to programmatically change a Report Filter (Page Field) so I can create sets of reports in an automated fashion. This will be the first step in that process. The change will involve choosing > 1 Role each time the code loops through based on Named Ranges I've defined that are associated with that Role.
My code thus far:
Code:
Sub TestCode()
Dim pt As PivotTable
Dim pf As PivotField
Dim pi As PivotItem
[Code]....
emm_dc_gsr is one of many Named Ranges that will contain a variable number of elements. Just using the one right now to see if I can get the code to work, I'll eventually make another Named Range/Array of all them so I can loop through each Report ("ReportPick").
I want the Report Filter to consult that Named Range for its values and apply those values to PivotField "Role" that is used as a Report Filter.
When running this code above, I get a "Role" Field that says "All" but no values (the table is completely blank), with no evidence as to why it'd be blank (all filters in every Report, Column and Row are working normally and are filled in). When I choose a value manually after the code is run, the pivot table values populate. Do I need to somehow index the Named Range in that loop? I'm just confused about this step right here:
For Each pi In pf.PivotItems
If pi.Value = RolePick Then
pi.Visible = True
Else: pi.Value = False
When I've run other versions of the code, I've gotten an array version of it to "work" using LBound and UBound, but it never chooses the right two values even though those are verified as stored in the array via a pass-through. It chooses the first few values in the Report Filter.
Here's the corresponding code for that:
For i = LBound(myArray) To UBound(myArray)
pf.PivotItems(i).Name = myArray(i, 1).Value
pf.PivotItems(i).Visible = True
Next
I do not care if I use an array or a Named Range. I just want something that is simple and works. Passing the values directly from the named range seems easiest to my brain, but I'm open to anything and I'm clearly missing something (probably silly).
I also have no idea why " .AutoSort xlManual, .SourceName, .EnableMultiplePageItems" is necessary though every piece of sample code I've seen seems to have some variation of it.
(Using Excel 2010, Windows 7.)

Cells in row C have numbers (number of days between date a and date b)
I want to group the days so I can run a usable pivot table as follows:
Up to 7 days between update date and today (ie 1 week) 8-14 days between update date and today (ie 2 weeks) 15-21 days (ie 3 weeks) 4 weeks +
My attempt is as follows but only give two results and not 4?
=IF(OR(C2<=7),"1-7days",IF(OR(C2>=8,C2<=14),"8-14days",IF(OR(C2<=21,C2>=15),"15-21days","Over4weeks")))

I have an Excel 2007 Workbook which is refreshed by a Web Query. I have dynamic named range defined as "Manager" which I've confirmed is correctly identified. This range includes only one column and is formatted as text.
When I try to reference this range in my conditional formatting "refers to" formula, all cells are recognized as blank even though the range clearly contains many cells that are not. For example, there are 90 records containing the initials "PD". If I use the formula =Manager="PD" in my conditional formatting, nothing changes. If I change it to =Manager="" then ALL records are formatted, including those that are not blank.
Stranger still, if I enter the formula =COUNTIF(Manager,"PD") into and empty cell in my worksheet those 90 records are counted correctly. Which leads me to believe it isn't about the data. Conversely, =COUNTIF(Manager,"") returns the correct count of only cells that are, in fact, blank.
I've tried using the OFFSET formula defining my range in place of the name itself for my conditional format formula to no avail.

Merge two columns into one list in excel
I would like to combine List1 and List2 into a 3rd named range called List3. I was wondering if this were possible without using any additional cells/columns (i.e. I don't want to use Column C like in the example shown in the link above).
Here's the formula from the example:
Code:
=IFERROR(INDEX(List1,ROWS(C1:$C$1)),IFERROR(INDEX(List2,ROWS(C1:$C$1)-ROWS(List1)),""))
I've played around with it, but could not come with any that worked.

On a worksheet, I created:
- a list of data
- a pivottable based on these data
When moving this worksheet this worksheet to another workbook, the pivot table can't refresh anymore. This throws an error message "Reference is not valid". To work around this problem I need to adapt the datasource. The same occurs if the list and the pivot table are on separate sheet, with the added strange behaviour that, when data an PT are split, it is not possible to move both sheet together.
This would not be a big issue if my problem had to be solved manually. The real problem is that I need to move the sheets from a C# program.

I have a worksheet with two pivot tables, one of which is visible to the user. Ideally, the user should be able to change the "Row Label" field settings of the visible pivot table and then press an "update button" that then adds the same field to the second pivot table.
Ideally, the ordering of the fields should also be made similar between the two tables, though this is of less priority.
I imagine it would be something in the style of:
"If number of Pivot1 active row label fields = X then
Pivot 2.AddRowLabelField = Pivot1.RowLabelField(X)
end if"

At this time I am going to all 3 or 4 pivot table to select the correct date. The date is in the page position of the pivot table. I have attached a small sample of the data and the pivot tables.
