I am working in a macro that will do some calculations and I would like to end it by plotting the results in some charts. Results are in one dimension array form, with probably more than 1000 elements. Can anybody tell me if there is any limit for the arrays that are going to be asigned to the XValues and Values of the chart?
View 14 RepliesI have built a chart using dynamic nameranges. The problem that I am facing is I tested it on two systems . One system the charts works fine but the other system the charts does not work . Both are excel 2007. Now the error that I get is if I see the chart data source from one system it is showing "!". The other file shows the chart data source as "0!". What should I be checking so that it works in the other system as well?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy code inserts charts and then assigns them data series. The problem is that sometimes it likes to grab 5 or 6 extra sets of data series and throw them in there too. I've done some research and it seems that Excel likes to guess what data is going in to a chart when you first add it in and grab some of that, rather than just waiting for me to assign it the data. The sheet I'm doing this on has multiple sets of similar data along row 1, the code crawls row 1 and creates a new chart for each set of station data it finds.

I'm trying to come up with a little code that will select 32000 line sections of a 500,000 line dataset, and add each one as a series to an XY scatter chart. Unfortunately, I the macro recorder doesn't show any actions involving charts this a setting somewhere). What is the VBA command / syntax for adding / formatting series?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a macro that runs every 15 minutes and stores data into a table. This table is attached to a chart and auto updates with the new data every 15minutes. The table will house historical data over time, however I only want the chart to reflect the last 96 entries (15min data points over 24hours). So, once i have enough data my table will be A2:A97. When A98 is populated, i want the data in A2 to be removed from the chart only.
Here is a breakdown:
A2:A97 is currently displayed on the chart.
I enter new data into A98.
The chart will now display A3:A98.
I enter new data into A99.
The chart will now display A4:A99.
I enter new data into A100.
The chart will now display A5:A100.
and so on.
How I can accomplish this? Does this need to be done in VBA?
I need understanding what is the maximum length of string data type. I read that is 63K characters... but, in my case... maximum value is 253. I don't know why happens this. here is some code from one of my buttons.

when watch for x, the value is maximum 253 characters. I get error Data Type Mismatch - Error 13 with this.
I want to make a line chart that plots a variable over time (say, monthly) and that shows upper and lower limits as the 2nd and 3rd plot. My table layout, boiled down to the bare essentials:
Col 1 = Measurement date
Col 2 = Measurement (pressure, for example)
Col 3 = High limit (never varies)
Col 4 = Low limit (never varies)
The chart/graph in this case would show at a glance how water pressure varies over time and when it goes over (under) a limit. The table has about 50 variables.
I have the following code that creates a new workbook and names it after the value of a cell in another workbook. Another part of the macro will switch back and forth between the original workbook and the newly created workbook.
What is the best way to refer to new workbook? I'm familiar with the "workbooks "VARIABLE NAME".Activate" style but, the name of the new workbook will change every time the macro runs and I'm not sure how to refer to it.

C2 = Folder name to be created
B2= Date for previous working day

I then have another macro that moves files into a specified folder within the same location ( I then manually move them into the folder the first macro created)
Is there a way I could get the files to move to the newly created folder without me having to do it manually.

I have 100s of name ranges in my spreadsheet. I am using a series of drop down boxes for the user to select the info that they want to see. Based on the dropdown box, the macro "dynamically generates" a range name from which to pull the info.
For instance, if they Select Manager = Terry, Analyst 1, and Month = Jan, then the range name would be JanTA1
The if statement would dynamically create this name by concatenating the info

if analyst = 1
anlyst = 1
if month = Jan
mnth = "Jan"
rangename = mnth & mnger & anlyst
So, I am dynamically creating the range name based on user selections...then to display it, I want to set the display cell = to the value

The problem is, I am getting an object error every time I try to refer to a range this way.
If I type:

On a sheet, I have a Worksheet_change sub that checks if the cell changed is in column 1, 10, or 19 and if it is, then the six cells to its right are filled with formulas I need. All formulas work, except for one. I've checked over and over again and the formula itself works fine - the coding behind it is exactly what it's supposed to be.
But for some reason sometimes the formula isn't put into the cell. I haven't found any pattern yet with this problem. Even stranger is that the formula is identical to one in another column before (which is also entered by the macro) and the other one has never disappeared yet. I'm setting both formulas with the abc.FormulaR1C1 property (I don't use the abc.Formula property to avoid having to write three different formulas - one for each possible column change).
I have some code that checks to see if a file exists on the network. Works great (super fast result) if the file is accessible. Works ok (2-3 seconds) if the file is on the other side of a vpn. Works sloe (5-15 seconds) if the file is there on a vpn network and I'm using a wireless computer (wireless adding extra lag). And finally; really slow because the wifi connection is slow or some what out of range ...... I want my code for checking the existence of this file to stop after a specified amount of time.

I poked around and found a macro to highlight the active cell, but I want to limit it to be active only for range A1:A37. Any ideas? I put in the Set OldCell = Range("A1:A37"), but all it does is turn every cell you pick blue and it stays that way, so I'm not sure how to limit it.

I have a macro which checks a column for a name, and any instances of those names it finds it copies and pastes into a new spreadsheet which it saves to a path of my choosing and closes it, then moves onto the next one. However, my macro is stopping halfway through my sheet and one of the lines of code is being highlighted as an error by the debugger - even though the same line has just worked for the last 60 instances or so.
is there a limit to how many times I can loop a macro?
I am completely new to Macro's and VB and the macro below has been generated using the "Record Macro" function in Excel 2013 with a couple of very minor modifications based on some research I have done (hyperlink & input box). My ultimate goal is to make a copy of my "TEMPLATE", which is hidden and the copy could have a variety of names, then create an entry in my "SUMMARY" table that references cells on the newly created sheet. The new entry on the SUMMARY page should be entered in the next available row ... at the moment I need to make sure I have my cursor in the right place before I run the macro. I also want the first cell in the new "SUMMARY" row to create a hyperlink to the newly created worksheet.
The macro does what I need it to do, as long as I name the new sheet "Test", what I would like is for the Macro to recognise the name of the new worksheet and create links to that name. The rows and columns in each new sheet will remain the same, hence the R##C## part will always work.
The "SUMMARY" and "TEMPLATE" worksheet names will not (ever) change.
I am creating 4 Sheets from a Main Sheet by Filtering Data based on different values in a fixed column, then the Filtered Rows are automatically pasted in the respective sheets.
Then these 4 Sheets are creating another file.
The same thing done manually by Grouping the 4 SHeets and then Move Copy into a New workbook also makes the file heavier.
Everything works fine however though the data is not much the file is very heavy, so what do i do to make it of appropriate size ?
I have a check box on a worksheet that when checked calls for a timer code from a module. This works fine however what I am finding is that the code in the module is applying the result all the sheets in the workbook not just the sheet where I have activated the check box. I am a novice at VBA and no doubt there will be a simple solution. How do I limit this to my active sheet. This is the code in the module

I have three charts in my workbook. I want to attach a macro so that when the chart is clicked it returns to Sheet - Home. I have using the following:
worksheets("Home").activate. But after I protect each chart and the workbook, and save and exit. When I reload the Workbook it has forgotten the assigned macros and nothing happens.
I want to create 3 stacked bars on a chart, where each stacked par points to the same series data. This is for an automated reporting process and I don't want to create a 'staging' table if I don't need to. I have discovered that while the series formula can take an array in curly brackets of actual numeric values, if i fill that array with the same spreadsheet cell reference 3 times it is unable to evaluate it. By way of example:

I have a workbook with macro button to run some vba, if i want the button to disable when the user make copies of the workbook (date created is later than original wb saved time) what codes to add in the VBA?
what i assume is to add the time to a cell when the wb is saved, when the wb opens, it check for that cell if the same with the date created, if different, then disable the macro button.

I have created a form that pops up using a macro when the form is opened. It is a simple form that uses optionbuttons in a group to select Intl or Dom.
Problems:
1) How do you get the form to close once a button is selected?
2) The user can close the form without selecting a button (the X at the top).
