View 1 RepliesA coworker of mine will keep a shared file open for hours at a time, not doing anything to it, just keeping open, meaning no one else can edit it as required. Is there a way to set a time limit for that file to remain open before it saves and closes the file? The file shouldn't need to be open more than 30 minutes at a time for any individual. If it's required to stay open longer for certain instances, is there a way to extend the time as well? I can't find anything even remotely relating to time limits on Excel files. Is there coding or an app I need to apply to accomplish this? Is there an option I haven't seen in the program already?

I've written a macro and i've added a button to the toolbar so that it's easy for users of the spreadsheet to run the macro. the problem i'm running into is that the sheet that the macro's written in is a template. the macro formats some downloaded junk. soooo, every time someone downloads stuff, they copy-paste into the template, push the button, and it formats it.
my problem is that when they Save As, the button's assigned macro gets reset to the name of the file they saved as. therefore, when someone else comes along and press the button, it doesn't run the macro out of the original template sheet which they have open, instead it tries to find the last sheet that was saved and run the macro through it.
I have a workbook which has a variety of command buttons with assigned macros, one of which is a product detail button which redirects to a new worksheet.
Is it possible to be able to click on the button, display a new window (the new worksheet), but only display a section of it?
For example, I have 5 products. Each of the five products are detailed on the same worksheet and I have a button for each. I would like Button 1 to open up the details for product 1 only and button 2 to open up product 2 details etc.
I could go to individual sheets, but if I had 2000 products, the book would be a little large.
Is there a way to have a macro run every time a sheet in a workbook is accessed? Something similar to the workbook open event, but for worksheets.

I am getting a run time error attributed to the value in cell B3 exceeding 31 characters. This is the maximum number of characters a worksheet tab can support. some additional code to rename the worksheet tabs and trim the name when 31 character limit is reached? note I need to keep the value in cell B3 as it is but trim the worksheet tab name only.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have some code that checks to see if a file exists on the network. Works great (super fast result) if the file is accessible. Works ok (2-3 seconds) if the file is on the other side of a vpn. Works sloe (5-15 seconds) if the file is there on a vpn network and I'm using a wireless computer (wireless adding extra lag). And finally; really slow because the wifi connection is slow or some what out of range ...... I want my code for checking the existence of this file to stop after a specified amount of time.

I poked around and found a macro to highlight the active cell, but I want to limit it to be active only for range A1:A37. Any ideas? I put in the Set OldCell = Range("A1:A37"), but all it does is turn every cell you pick blue and it stays that way, so I'm not sure how to limit it.

I have a macro which checks a column for a name, and any instances of those names it finds it copies and pastes into a new spreadsheet which it saves to a path of my choosing and closes it, then moves onto the next one. However, my macro is stopping halfway through my sheet and one of the lines of code is being highlighted as an error by the debugger - even though the same line has just worked for the last 60 instances or so.
is there a limit to how many times I can loop a macro?
I have a check box on a worksheet that when checked calls for a timer code from a module. This works fine however what I am finding is that the code in the module is applying the result all the sheets in the workbook not just the sheet where I have activated the check box. I am a novice at VBA and no doubt there will be a simple solution. How do I limit this to my active sheet. This is the code in the module

is it possible to write vb code to open the workbook, scroll through everysheet? extract the values from each worksheet?
let's just say, I only know the workbook name, but not the sheets of the name inside. So the vb code could scroll through every worksheet without knowing the worksheet name, only the workbook name(workbook.xls)
I am working in a macro that will do some calculations and I would like to end it by plotting the results in some charts. Results are in one dimension array form, with probably more than 1000 elements. Can anybody tell me if there is any limit for the arrays that are going to be asigned to the XValues and Values of the chart?

Therefore I wanted to add some piece of code to check if the destination workbook is open. If not then I wanted the macro to open it before tranfering the sheet. I would like to produce a carousel effect. i will start with a basic example and then explain the complications.
Basically I have a range of cells of indeterminant length. The left column is numbered vertically - let's say 1,2,3,4,5,6. I would like to be able to generate a carousel effect so that if I right click on a number all the cells below move down and the number at the bottom fills the gap so that if I right click on 1 the cells would become 6,1,2,3,4,5 or if I right click on 3 the cells would become 1,2,6,3,4,5.
The complication is that there will be more than one of each number eg 1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2,3,3,3,3,4,4,4,4,5,5,5,5,6,6,6,6. (there will allways be the same number of each) so I would want the whole block to move down and the ones at the bottom to come up and fill the gap.
The other slight complication is that the range of cells is 5 columns wide so I would want the whole block of cells to carousel.
I have added a shape to my spreadsheet to work as a button. All is fine and it has the desired functionality however, adding the actual effect or simulate the effect of a button click/pressed?

Tool should allow "play arround", to simulate various scenarios, talking into account growth rate, time period, monthly investment, fluctuation of a theoretical share. Idealy we would love to " import" e.g. famous fund history (eg. Tempelton, Pioneer) etc. to see how investment would have developed when a steady monthly payment would have been made.
I am making an excel sheet which can track the hypothetical effect building an order has on current inventory. The user is to change the quantities in this hypothetical order whenever they want.
It is composed of two sheets, the inventory sheet and the model sheet. The inventory sheet has the costs of every part carried and how many are currently in stock. The model sheet has a breakdown of what parts are required to build the different models.
I am looking for a function or VBA which can take a hypothetical order (build xx of model one + build xx of model two + build xx of model three), see how many total parts are needed, then calculate and display the effect it has on current inventory. This is only to see the hypothetical effect on inventory, not to actually change the inventory in the inventory sheet.
I've attached what I have so far - most everything is completed except for this final calculation. I have tried using the VLOOKUP function in VBA to try and come up with a solution but I couldn't figure out the best way to go about this. I think the hardest part might be that a hypothetical order can be made up of all three models.
I have set up a spread sheet which uses tick boxes and I have calculated it all up so that the percentage of ticks ticked is displayed in a cell etc. and when I link that data to a bar chart it works perfectly. .e.g as I tick the boxes the bar chart increases
BUT when I try to do the exact same thing with a pie chart it doesn't work.
Not sure what formula to use for this set-up:
Col1 - Name_Last

I am trying to make a spreadsheet that contains numbers in columns D to P. My end user wants to be able to adjust these with scroll bars so I could make ActiveX scroll bars under each number in each column but this would be a lot of scroll bars (one in each row and columns)!!!!
Is there are way where I have have scroll bars in column D to P that only effect the active rows and always sits below the active row?

In a attempt to re-activate the code i moved the piviots to a new spreadsheet. But the code is still not working....
I would like to freeze the bottom part of my spreadsheet, such that the user can scroll through the upper part but still be able to see the bottom part. The freeze command freezes what is above the line, I want to freeze what is below the line.

but

and such.
The problem I have is not only am I not understanding a lot of Excel jargon, the data set is not in perfect "example" conditions.
O.D. is in N:N yet there are blanks between N(x) and N(y), GA is in O:O yet blanks between O(a) and O(b), and so on.
Here is what I have at the moment, it uses a second sheet to derive the cost based on the parameters. Please ignore the first few terms, they are used with this cost lookup to give me my final. There also may be incorrect syntax in this, but since I get a nesting error first, I really don't know.
