Autofill Cell Based On Results Of Multiple Dynamic Dropdown Lists?

Aug 25, 2014

how best to do this (bare with me I'm not quite a pro at excel yet!). I'll attach my doc (JMP Excel Forum) so you know what I'm taking about. I've set up the data to work in a similar way to this, as you can see I've a table set up (Appliance Sheet) which feeds information to the Main Sheet which contains the drop down lists.

What I need it to do is autofill the wattage column (Main!F8 onwards) with the wattage for the device as described in Appliance!N3 or N4 for example. For the wattage column to equal 28 (equivalent to Appliance!N3) then the following would show in the dropdown selections Type>Computers SubCategory>Monitors Device>BENQ G2222HDL Status>On

Is there a way to do this with the set up I have?

I did have a previous version of the whole worksheet that each Device had its own table and I looked up the wattage using and If formula to lookup a info on the device and knowing where to look it up based on the subcategory

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(D7,IF('Main UI'!C7="Heating_Cooling",Appliances!$A$7:$B$14, IF('Main UI'!C7="Kitchen_Bathroom",Appliances!$A$16:$B$27,IF('Main UI'!C7="Monitors",Appliances!$A$52:$B$62,IF(C7="Computers",Appliances!$A$64:$B$68,........

And I got it to work but it was getting to cumbersome to add in new devices and update the formulas. If attached that doc (OLD) so you know what I'm talking about. The last two sheets are the same sheets that make up the new document (JMP Excel Forum)OLD.xlsm

I really prefer the new way I've got it set up. Its easier to add new information or options to the dropdown list

How To Get Multiple Dropdown Lists To Populate Results In Named Cell

Sep 28, 2012

I was just given a task at the office of creating a in depth excel spreadsheet. Here is what I need:

I have one drop down list that represents the state a person lives in.
I have another drop down list that represents the the type of property it is.

If you select CA in drop down 1 and Multi Family in drop down 2 you get the end result in (specific) cell.

Then if you select AZ in drop down 1 and SFR in drop down 2 you get different end result in named cell.

How can I get items within 2 different drop down list to call up the end result in a 3rd cell?

Dependent Dropdown Lists Based On Dynamic Data Range?

Apr 19, 2013

I have data that resembles (I have also attached an example workbook as well if that is easier)

Column A.................Column B................Column C..................Column D.............Column E................Column F
Year.......................Quarter...................Month..................Product-Code...........[data A]................[data B]
2013.........................Q1.........................Jan........................SD-21...................13%......................0.05%
2013.........................Q2..........................Apr........................NV-12...................7%.......................6%

etc

I am hoping to have, on another sheet, a series of dependent drop boxes- Year, Quarter, Month, SKU- which after selecting then displays 'dataA' & 'dataB'.

So you could select- List 1: 2013 ----> List 2: Q1 ----> List 3: Jan ----> SD-21.................and then 13% and 0.05% are displayed.

The data will be continuously added to and so needs to be based on a dynamic data range.

I know that a pivot table is the perfect way to do this, however my bosses have requested that I do not use that format so it is easy for all staff to access.

So I think I need to construct some sort of dashboard sheet, I have experimented with OFFSET from other posts, but so far have had no joy.

Set Up Spreadsheet With Linked Dynamic Dropdown Lists?

Apr 24, 2014

I am trying to set up a spreadsheet with linked dynamic drop down lists, based on a table.Using the OFFSET function, I have managed to get this to work if the table is on the SAME sheet at the drop down lists. But I want to be able to put the drop down lists onto a different sheet, so that I can lock and hide the table.

I don't want to use the 'name based on the previous column' idea, as the table is large and will change weekly. the drop downs show all values, even duplicates, which I would like to get rid of.

Dropdown Selection Of Months To Autofill Out Date Ranges In Multiple Cells

Sep 20, 2013

I am currently trying to make a digital time card for my place of employment. I has an odd set up and odd date ranges. The pay period starts on the 21st of each month and ends on the 20th of the next month.

The time cards have 5 columns for each week starting on Mondays going to Sunday (also weird its not Saturday to Sunday) What I was hoping to accomplish was being able to select the starting month of your choice for pay period and have multiple cells update the week date range.

Excel 2011 :: Multiple Dependent Dropdown Lists

Feb 26, 2013

I am working on a spreadsheet for my Building company. I'm building a tool to price for Fascia, Soffits and Cladding.

I'm using Macbook Pro Microsoft Office for Mac 2011

Please see attached file

The first sheet holds all the lists of products, Category Headings list is in column A and then all the relevant products and prices are then from B to BI. I have defined each category with a name by selecting the cells and entering a name in the name box.

The second sheet is a Calculator in which I would like a to have a drop down list in the Category Column (Which I have worked out how to do myself - good old google) and then a drop down list in the second column which lets the user select from a list of results based on the selection from the previous column.

Example:
Category(B3) - 18mm Fascia/Replacement Board (Square White) - Drop down menu taken from sheet 1 A3:A33
Description (C3) - Drop down list containing all the options from D2:D15 Named "FasciaReplacementBoard18mmWhite"

So basically, whatever the user selects in Column B (from the category list) a drop down list would be available in Column C

The Value column would then show a value based on the options selected.

Create Common Dropdown Lists Across Multiple Workbooks?

Apr 28, 2014

I expect to deploy over 200 iterations of a workbook (templates if you will) containing a mix of up to one hundred different attributes each with its own list of valid values. My problem is the attributes don't always default to the same column in every template workbook. Therefore, to make things easier for users I would like to create attribute valid value dropdown lists on the fly using the "Valid Values' table as the source data (see the attached). Since the attribute names will be the same from one template workbook to the next, I wanted to come up with a macro that would reference a source table (a separate workbook) containing all valid values for all attributes which users would be required to download to their local machine.

See the attached example workbooks and an example of a "Valid Values" list. Here's what needs to happen: When a user opens template workbook #1 I need drop down lists containing the valid values for the attributes contained in cell B3 (User Code),C3 (Department) and D3 (Category). Likewise, when another user opens template workbook #2, I need drop down lists containing the valid values in cell B2 (Department), C3 (Group), D3 (Category), E3 (Level), F3 (Material) and G3 (User Code). Notice that "Department", "Category" and "User Code" are data elements common between both workbooks but resident in different columns.

Reset Dropdown Lists Based On Other Inputs / Cells

Jul 1, 2009

Trying to create a dynamic costing spreadsheet, where the user has to make multiple selections from many dropdown lists, all of which end up showing a total cost.

So far I have managed to create relatively dynamic lists, so that the choice in one cell will dictate what options are available in the next.

But if a user selects an options form all the dropdowns, and then decides to go back and modify a previous option to something else, the effected dropdown lists do not change until you click on the drop down arrow again and see the options available have changed.

Let me try and simplify...
'Menu 1' has two option: 'A' and 'B'.
If 'A' is chosen, then the next menu, 'Menu 2', will have options '1' and '2'.
If 'B' is chosen from 'Menu 1', then the options in 'Menu 2' will be '3' and '4'.
Lets say the user chose 'A' from 'Menu 1' and then '1' from 'Menu 2'... AND THEN went back and changed their choice in 'Menu 1' to 'B'....
'Menu 2' will still be displaying '1', even though the options are only '3' and '4'.

Can I make the dependant menu's either reset or blank or highlight to show that a change made somewhere else has made them currently invalid

Formulas Based On Results From Dropdown Menu?

Dec 23, 2013

I am building a sheet that facilitates managers at our company decipher information that is given to them on a daily workbook I created.

I want to have a drop down menu in Col J, that refers to the major questions they will ask.

Time started (Before)
Time Finished (After)
Number of Cards (More than)
Stops Per hour (more than)
Amount of Time Taken (More Than)

I have set up in Col (K) a secondary drop-down list which based on the question selected in (J) will offer options for the answer E.G Time questions will make (K) refer to options based on time and selections based on amounts will offer numbers as an answer.

The elements in brackets are the parts of the formula that create the search option. E.G If select 'Time Started' it will search for all records that started before the time selected in the next col (K)

Right if that makes sense.. I have completed this. so I have the following: A question drop down list in (J), and an answer drop down in (K) which is dependant on the type of question asked. (I have attached an example)

I want to now have a totals box after the question where it displays a total amount of cols that are true to the details in the question.

After that (if possible) I will want to use conditional formatting to highlight the ones that reflect to the question.

Realistically if possible i wouldnt mind creating a question box, a box that allows them to select 'more than', 'exact' or 'less than' and then the specific value. Basically a conditional formatting box for dummies within the worksheet. Attached is a demonstration.

Dropdown VLookup Menu Returns Multiple Results?

Oct 11, 2011

I'm attempting something new, a dropdown menu using vlookup to find data . If i use the simple example below, using data from B-D on 1 worksheet, where i want to find people by county:

A B C D
Search by County Name County Town
John Sussex Brighton
Eric Yorkshire York
Jim Cheshire Manchester
Liz Sussex Hove
Sarah Avon Bristol

I've created a dropdown menu on a second worksheet,A2, by county search, to return a persons name, county and town. The problem is if i select Sussex i will get 2 names who live in different towns within Sussex. I've created a simple vlookup which works fine, but because of Sussex having 2 results, i created a second vlookup for the second result to appear in the cell underneath.

The problem is that for the results that only have 1 result, the second vlookup returns a the same result as the first result, which i dont want.

Is there a way where multiple results will be shown if they exist, but for one result to appear if only one result exists?

Multiple Conditional (Dynamic) Dropdown Boxes

Jun 5, 2014

I'm trying to incorporate multiple conditional (Dynamic?) drop down boxes to enable me to get an appropriate code at the end of the process. This will be used to product data entry and the code will tell Amazon where to post the product. I have many thousands of codes that i need to access and the easiest and most accurate way is to break down everything in to category and sub categories until I eventually get the code I want for that specific product.

for Example:

1730708031Clothing/Baby/Baby Girls 0-24m/Hoodies & Tracksuits/Tracksuit Bottoms

To return this code I would want to select Clothing, which returns a list which includes baby which in turn will give me a list that includes baby girls and so on and so on until I can select Tracksuit bottoms that will return the code.

Each list is dependent on the previous choice

As I have thousand and thousand of potential codes creating range list for each potential category and sub categories is not really feasible and would be very difficult to maintain when changes occur.

With this in mind I have created a code list that breaks the above example so that each category is now in it's own cell and there can be upto 8 (as I've seen so far) potential conditional categories before you return the code and ideally I would like to use this as it very easy to create and update. (see attached)

I might be able to use filters to return the appropriate list each time but don't know where to begin.

Dropdown List Displaying Multiple Results - No Functionality If Worksheet Is Protected

Nov 28, 2013

I wanted to create a multiple drop down lists (using data validation) in column B (50 in all, every 3rd line) whereby, multiple, comma deliminated, results would display in each of the cells - for use elsewhere in the spreadsheet.

I found some code (as follows) which worked perfectly for me

VB:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim rngDV As Range
Dim oldVal As String

[Code].....

As I mentioned above, I don't really understand the code and all I know is that the line about halfway down "If Target.Column = 2 Then" is defining which column (B) this will work in.

The problem I am having is that I need to protect the worksheet and the moment I "protect" the worksheet, the functionality of displaying multiple values goes away and the drop-down list reverts to only displaying one of the available values.

Excel 2007 :: Chart That Reads Results Of Multiple Dropdown Boxes?

May 25, 2012

Using Excel 2007

I have six colums (Date; Skill; ST Hrs; OT hrs: Area; Type). I copied and pasted below a small portion of info from the spreadsheet. I know when I copy and paste into a post the information under the headers don't line up exactly...it appears offset, so basically "Date" is of course the date you see..."Skill"'s columns has the first item as nb-mech b..."ST Hrs" first item will be 0.00..."OT Hrs" will be 1.50...."Area"'s first item is "Log FM NO"....and "Type"'s first item is MX07

And there are 17,000 rows of this info and forever growing...a lot of repeated items in each column such as you can see "blaster" has multiple entries on 4/1/2012.

What I am attempting to do which I have not firgured out yet (i have tried array formulas but they bog down the pc forver and couldn't figure out exactly how to make it give me the results I needed...and I also tried sumproducts but that didnt get me what I wanted....and it is being requested of me to NOT make a pivot table but a chart.

What I am trying to create is is the following:

1 - cells to plug in a date range for example cell A1 I plug 4/1/2012 and cell A2 plug 4/30/2012
2 - drop down boxes for columns Skill; Area: Type, which show only unique records in each column

Once I have that, I could then filter all 3 itmes and have only items show in the date ranges I picked and present ONLY the SUMS of columns ST Hrs and OT hrs.

Once the SUMS show up, I can then have cells off to the side that will give a percent break down of what percent of the total hours (for the chose criteria) are ST Hrs and what percent of the total are OT Hrs....and this percentage break down will show up in a Bar Chart, per day chosen in my date ranges....I'm thinking one simple stacked bar per day in the chart.

So say, based on the info below, I wanted to see the total ST Hrs and OT Hrs from 4-1-12 to 4-2-12 for a nb-blaster in LOG FM NO and type MX06.....my result would be 0.00 ST Hrs...23 OT Hrs.....and my bar chart would be one simple bar peaked out at 23 on day 4-1-12.....and within the bar it would be 0.00% ST Hrs and 100% OT Hrs and maybe the total hours for each showing also..don't need that but it may be useful.. ..and no bar for 4-2-12 (because the criteria picked had no hours for 4-2-12)

I have been messign witht is all week and just can't nail it.. I do remember a while ago I would have been able to load the spreadsheet into the post and people could see it in excel...is that option to do that no longer on this site?

DateSkillST HrsOT HrsAreaType
4/1/2012nb - mech b0.00 1.50 Log FM NOMX07
4/1/2012nb - scaffolding0.00 8.50 Bogs NOMX02
4/1/2012nb - coatings mech b0.00 3.00 Log FM NOMX07

[Code].....

The validation is set up by ranges from another Worksheet.

Dynamic Data Validation :: Dynamic Lists

Jun 24, 2009

I have a question on the above but can't seem to find a solution. There are two ways that I can find for dealing with dynamic lists via data validation:-

1) Offset and match, cavet being the data must be sorted a-z
2) Have lists for each potential selection

Is there any way to get around 1 without having to do 2? E.g. Got two columns of data, unsorted, and a list from which the user can choose from. The user chooses from the list in first cell, in the second cell require the dynamic list to return all the values accordingly?

Autofill Data Validation Lists And Formulas Into New Columns In Tables?

Jan 9, 2014

My Table has a data validation list in one row of a table. And different formulas in different rows.

The Table is expanded only into columns. Which means, there will be no new rows...only columns will be added.

If we enter text into the header cell in a new column, the whole new column gets formatted, but the list and formulas do not auto fill into new columns.

Of course an easy way is to copy and paste a column...but is there a way to auto fill lists and formulas into columns of the table? Similar to how the rows get autofilled?
