I have this problem where the SUM function is returning 0. The context is this- I am simulating values using RAND() and looking up the values corersponding to probabilities from a different tables. I then use the TRIM function to return the value I need, and the final number is of a "general" format.
This is the formula in the column I wish to sum:
And this is dragged down the column.
When I change the cells using =VALUE(cell) the SUM function then returns the required value. Oddly the SUMPRODUCT function seems to work.
Calculation is set to automatic and the cell has been formatted as a number.
I have the following range of cells B2:Y3700. I want that when a value from 1 to 9999 is inserted in one cell of the above mentioned range, to copy the row number of that cell in the cell that is located in column Z and row is the number inserted in that cell. For example, if the number "1234" is inserted in one cell from range B2:Y3700, to enter in cell Z1234 the number of the row where is located the respective cell. At same the time is very important to me to not permit to insert the same number in B2:Y3700, so i believe that is need a macro code to check the cell from column z to see if value already exist .
Is it possible to change hyperlink as per the cell reference changed in a cell. for example :- in cell D2 the apply a match formula to find out a cell reference (eg "A"& Match function based on info type on cell A1) Now I want to create hyperlink as per the cell reference mentioned in cell D2. suppose I type Red in A1 and D2 give me the cell reference A51 than automatically Hyperlink create for A51. and it continiously changed whatever i type in A1 and what cell reference is showing in D2.

When a cell changes i would like the cell in the next column to record the date of this change. After achieving this i want to set up conditional formatting to compare this date to the current date and if they are the same then change the original cell's colour to show it changed today!
I started using the code below (from ozgrid) which was working fine BUT my cell value in column A is actually taken from a different column. when the different column cell value changes my cell in A changes but the script below does not seem to see this as a change. it only records the date if i physcially change the cell in A rather than another cell prompting it to change.
based on my overall objective and my plans to date please can someone suggest a solution? current code below....
I am trying to date stamp a cell when another cell has been changed from a drop down selection list. For instance: If cell A1 is changed, time stamp B1. I have tried both the following codes and they both work for 1 column.
"Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal target As Range) If target.column = 1 Then Cells(target.Row, 2) = Now() End Sub"
[Code]....
The problem is that I want to time stamp cells in columns FHJLN, when the column to the left has been modified (EGIKM). So I basically want to repeat the time stamp code for multiple columns. I have tried messing around and can get not more than 2 columns to work at a time.
I know next to nothing about VBA. I have been reading up on it but can't figure out how to do this. A2 has a dropdown list. D2 has options based on the selection in A2. I need to empty the contents of D2 when the selection has changed in A2. I have the corresponding lists linked up. But still need the cell the void the previous info.
In attached file, I need to find a way for "y" to be automatically calculated. But for that, "y" needs to first find out which equation to use, depending upon the corresponding entry in first column.
When i have automatic calculation on, excel freezes. When i push the escape key i get focus back to excel but then it nearly immediatley loses focus again. I have to keep hitting excel to navigate anywhere with excel. By turning calculations to manual it no longer freezes. Is there a way to identify whats causing this freeze, I went through and deleted nearly all events? Why would auto calculate freeze excel if no changes are being made to a formula?
I have largish workbooks (10MB) with a variety of formulas and lookups to generate tables and charts. Calculation is ALWAYS set to Automatic, but sometimes (not always) the formulas fail to update when values are changed. Sometimes F9 will force calculation, sometimes Ctrl + Alt + F9, sometimes (especially with charts) I have to close the workbook and reopen before they will update. The workbooks contain macros but none are running when this happens. A search of your forum indicated that this question has arisen several times before, but I haven't seen a definitive answer.
I am working in a fairly large worksheet, and I realized that when I make changes to it, sometimes some of the cells do no recalculate. The only way I can get them to recalculate is by clicking into the cell, and then hitting return.
The issue is that I don't know which ones are failing to recalculate unless I click into each individual cell and hit return to see if it changes. This would be logistically impossible given the size of my sheet.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this issue?
I have several data validation style drop down menus, and I basically don't want excel to recognize changes in these cells and execute a calculation of the entire workbook. Since there is a large number of calculations being performed in the workbook the sheet gets really slow.
Overall the way excel "automatically calculates" really screws me up a lot. This built in functionality could be a lot smarter in my opinion.
I need to average data following the format below by average per week by week/store combination e.g. wk 1/store A average is 6.
Week Store Sales
1 A 7
[Code] ..
I can easily use SUMIFS to achieve this, but I have a large amount of data between the weeks of 1-52, a dozen different stores and I will be adding to this. I don't want to have to enter new SUMIFS every time I enter a new wk/store combination. How do I get this info to automatically calculate?
I am looking to add a function to a current spreadsheet that writes the current date to a cell when another is updated. The sheets function is to have a user record when a particular action has been completed and then remind them after a given amount of time. The user is faced with an option to input a "1" to essentially "start the timer" and then the date that is automatically input by the code will be used to compare with the current date. I have tried the following on the Workbook_SheetChange sub
If ActiveCell.Column = 9 And ActiveCell.Value <> 1 Then ActiveCell.Offset(-1, 2).Value = Date End If
But cannot figure out how to eliminate user error. Let me explain. If a user enters a value (will only ever be a 1 to indicate "yes") into column 9 then the date appears in the correct place (two cells to the left) If however a user deletes a value then the date will update one cell too high!? I also thought of using a cell based if statement (if j7 = 1 then today() else "" but this only updates with todays value each time you open where I want the date to stay as the day the cell was updated. The date is going to be used as a way of working out when to change the original value of the cell in column 9 to "".
I know how to turn off automatic and manual calculation modes manually in excel or through VB. But is there a way to make the automatic calculation mode ignore changes in certian cells? It would be good if you could right click on a cell and turn this on/off as an option. I assume I will have to code this in vb somehow, but I am a novice. Something like:
Sub test123() For Cells = Value.Range("I7:R22") Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual
Like I basically want part of my sheet to be set to manual calculation mode, and partially to automatic...
I have a table with rows that keep growing. But I have place formula in the whole of column F, i.e. F2:F66565. When I import information from MS Access into column A to E, the formula in F does not work, until I copy from F2 to the end manually. I have tried using Tools, Options, Calculation, Automatic. That doesn't work, I have also tried F9, that doesn't work and I have also tried checking Precision as Displayed under the calculation tax in Tools-Options, that doesn't work either.
I have workbooks in which summary tables are generated by lookup formulas. Tables are on different sheets but all use the same lookup value by referring to a cell on the 'master' sheet. The lookup value appears in cells on all sheets, by reference to the master sheet (e.g. [formula] = mastersheet!$B$2).
The master sheet contains the main summary table and is copied and detached for distribution, using a macro. For practical reasons, this is done in two stages, first copying the sheet within the workbook (to make minor alterations), then moving it to a new book to save and distribute.
This is where the problem arises. After the sheet has been detached, we find that if we now change the lookup value on the master sheet in the original file, the tables on that sheet will update normally, but the cells on other sheets remain frozen at the previous value and the tables on those sheets do not update.
The only way round the problem is by Shift + Ctrl + Alt + F9. (Maybe I should add that all my workbooks are always set to automatic calculation.)
The macro itself is not the cause of the problem; if we follow the same procedure manually, the result is the same. However, if we move the sheet in one step, eliminating the intermediate copying stage, the problem does not arise. But this is evading the problem, not solving it, and I would be reluctant to have to resort to this.
The original problem remains as stated, viz. failure of automatic calculation.
I have a Schedule Grid that I've created. When a cell gets updated, I'd like for another cell to be changed (as to trigger some conditional formats that I have going on). I figured it'd be rather easy, and it was... sort of.
This is the code that I am using:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Target.Column < 4 Or Target.Column > 10 Then Exit Sub If Target.Row < 4 Or Target.Row > 422 Then Exit Sub
Target.Offset(0, 9).Value = 1
End Sub The code worked perfectly, up until a random moment. Not sure why, but now, the code only works when the cell is updated by a manual entry or deletion. If I use a validation list (which is the primary form of entry), it runs every line of code EXCEPT the Target.Offset(0,9).Value=1.
Here's the strange part. I took it home, and it works fine there. It used to work fine on my computer at work, now it doesn't. Nor does it work on the computer that I need to present this on tomorrow.
I've tried entering in a MsgBox() event both before and after the Target.Offset line. The first message box appears, so I know the code is passing through the restriction lines. But the second message box is not appearing. The code for whatever reason exits the sub at the Target.Offset.
If the value of any cell in in column D is changed to "Closed", a message box will appear that says "Others must be notified when item is closed". In that message box, I want two buttons: Button 1 One is cancel and will undo the change. Button 2 will open MS Outlook with pre-filled email addresses and will attach the open worksheet. After the email is sent, to return to Excel.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("B2")) Is Nothing Then Do_it End If
End Sub
Cell B2 contains an employee number. What I need to do is save some data for the employee number that was in cell B2 just before it was changed.
Example: If employee number "10" is entered in B2. Then the user were to change the employee number in cell B2 to "55" I would like to use the previous value "10" to do some VBA stuff with.
I am trying to have one cell automaticall input infromation based on another cell. For example, if A1 = 10, then I want B1 to automatically equal 20.
The formula I am using in B1 is as follows - =if(A1="10","20","")
I have 2 problems though:
1st - I don't want to put the furmula in any cell because other information is put in there also. I tried putting it in conditional format but I don't think it is meant for such usage. Also, I already have something in data validation. so I can't put anything there because to my knowledge you can only put one validation per cell.
2nd - I have multiple numbers (around 7) that I need to be automatically inputed along the columns.
Is it possible to save a workbook whenever any changes are made to any cell in a specific column? The reason - I'm putting an excel workbook out on a network drive for 4-5people to share. The sheet contains work items which are imported every 4 hours... Column A contains the status.
I want to save the file every time anybody changes a status to prevent multiple users from working on the same item. I realize that I could build a form then load each workitem into the form, then apply the save to a change event on the field/control, but that's something for next week - I need to get this out the door, bare bones, as soon as possible.
I have a spreadsheet where sheet("summary").Cells("K4") = sheet("component").Cells("G7").
This is written as a formula, e.g. =SUM('Component'!G7).
I am trying to achieve the same through VBA. I can get the summary cell to copy the others. but it just copies it the once when it is created. How can I make this re-calculate everytime it is changed?
I'm after some vb code that will only allow the range - PRODUCT_Selections!A2:C370 to calculate, when something is changed in the range - Input!T11:V500
I would like all other calculations in the workbook to continue as normal.
I know that =now() will give me the time, and keep updating itself, but is there a formula I can use that will give me the time the cell was written into and maintain that time .. example, if I entered something into the cell at 3:45:21pm I want that time recorded in that cell and not change as they day moves on
