I have the formula working for the average of the 4 lowest of all, using "AVERAGE" and "SMALL"; need for average of 4 lowest in most recent 7
Needed for a golf league where the average of the best three of five games is needed - so, low score is better but score must be greater than zero. Each row is a player, column A is the players name, B-F 5 different games and the average will be in column G. I tried this formula but if someone didn't play at least 3 games SMALL returns the #NUM! error value. If I enter 0 for games not played then SMALL picks up the 0 as the lowest score. =(SMALL(B3:F3,1)+SMALL(B3:F3,2)+SMALL(B3:F3,3))/3. How to nest the different functions (if>0, small, and avg would be good too)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to set up a Excel spreadsheet for golf handicaps where it will use the 4 lowest scores of the last 5 entries. It must be able to work even if there are missed entries (someone didn't show up/blanks ignored). I would like it to work if there are only three scores used at the beginning of the season, but when there are 5 or more scores, use only the 4 lowest scores out of the last 5. I want it to average these scores. The scores would start in column d. The following is an example of scores with an underscore being a blank:
Golfer 1 45,50,42,43,46,37,45,45,46,44
Golfer 2 41,43,42,_,41,_,_,47,42,39
Golfer 3 44,43,45,54,_,45,43,40,42,_
I need to get a formula to calculate the average of the best 3 scores out of 4, but there is some that do not have a value in a cell (so some are only out of 3 scores not 4) and if i simply drop the lowest value and sum the rest, it will incorrectly calculate the average.

I am looking for a way to find a highest (and/or) lowest value in a list of numbers. The list keeps getting longer and after a certain point I will need the 2 highest (or lowest), then the 3 highest (or lowest). I know MIN and MAX will find the high and low, but how do I find the 2nd highest, etc?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have numbers in K12 thru K23 (a few of the cells are blank)
The formula below is what I'm using to figure a golf handicap. I have 40 handicaps to figure this way.
=(((K15+K21+K19+K23+K18)/5)-37)*0.9
I manually picked out the 5 lowest numbers in column K for the formula. I think there should be a better/easier way. Can anyone help me?
I know this is probably really easy to do but I am new with excel. I have a list of 8 numers in 8 cells and was able to find the lowest. But now I need to take the list and subtract the lowest number from the second lowest and have the difference dispay in the target cell.
View 8 Replies View RelatedE11 through E24 contains numbers and a few errors (#N/A) that need to persist (the errors need to show).
E10 needs to show the average of the numbers that are in E11 through E24, and just ignore the errors.
I have many columns like that - where the errors need to show and I need to show an average of the number/values that do appear, ignoring the errors.
I have a series of numbers in cells B2 to G2. The maximum value of each of these columns is found in B5 to G5. Is there a formula that will calculate the percentage of each of the values in row 2 (B2 to G2) and tell me which is the lowest number based on the percentage? Example...
Row 2: 12, 100, 43, 1444, 141, 332
Row 5: 25, 140, 55, 3000, 244, 440
Which number in row 2, is the lowest percentage of the total possible points found in row 5?
B2 is 45% (12 divided by 25), C2 is 71%, D2 is 78%, E2 is 48%, F2 is 58%, G2 is 75%.
I want a formula to tell me in a new cell that "12" (in B2) is the lowest percentage in that series.
I am trying to generate a list of the 5 highest and 5 lowest numbers from a list of scores that range from 1 to 10. I have found the highest and lowest absolute values (numbers over 7.5, and less than 5, out of 10), but I would also like to generate the 5 highest and lowest relative numbers, ie. if there are no scores over 7.5, then the 5 next highest numbers. I have used if/then formulas for the absolute highest and lowest numbers, and a rank/countif formula to rank them. I have no idea how to generate a list of the "relative strengths and weaknesses".

I can't find a way to sort my data. It looks similar to below. And I need to sort them based on the numbers from lowest to highest.

I have two sheets:
Sheet one has dates, my prices on each of those days, and the fields h1 h2 h3 h4 (h1 is the closest higher number, h2 is the next closet higher number, etc.) and l1 l2 l3 l4 (l1 is the closest lower number, etc. etc.)
Sheet two has certain dates and prices of a competitor's prices.
What I'm trying to do is two things (see attached):
1) find the four closest higher and four closest lower prices (if available)
2) use only the prices that are on or before the date in question.
I've tried combinations like LARGE and OFFSET and so far it is not getting me anywhere.
Can this be done???
I have a list of numbers in cells A1:A10, these numbers change frequently. I would like to set up a formula to calculate the 3 lowest values from those numbers and list the three lowest values in cells J1:J3, with lowest value on J1 and the highest of the 3 values in J3.
I know I can use the small/large functions for this, but im not sure how to work it out to use just the 3 lowest values.
I have imported and filtered a .csv. to specified sheet names. I have rows that have been sorted by a specific column's cell contents. i.e.

xxx xxxx xxx xxx xxx 2 xxxx xxx xxx
xxx xxxx xxx xxx xxx 2 xxxx xxx xxx

I need to be able to select all the rows or ranges that contain a common value 1's and then loop back and select the next group 2's of rows until the row or column contains "".
I have a spreadsheet wtih a number of rows that contain answers to different criertia in each column.
The row may therefore have cells that either have numbers or letters.
Column A will be the title of the row.
I want to write a function to find the average value of the numbers in any row with title 'x'.
So it would look down column A, and look for those called 'x', and then average all the numbers across all those rows.
I have tried to use =averageif, but I think the fact there are letters in the cells being assessed (which I just want to be ignored) creates an error.
I am looking for a formula that will find the lowest 5 number group in column A with a total value from column B under $100 in the below table.

Field 1 input: Beginning Date (e.g 7/17/09)
Field 2 input: End Date (e.g. 7/23/09)
Need: Average costs on and between these given dates
From table with this information:
Date Market two
7/16/2009 80
7/17/2009 80
7/20/2009 82
7/21/2009 84
7/22/2009 82
7/23/2009 82
7/24/2009 82
7/27/2009 82
I need Excel to average Market two 7/17 to 7/23 (80, 82, 84, 82, 82) based on the dates I give it.
If I change the date to 7/20 to 7/24, I then need excel to average (82, 84, 82, 82, 82)
How can I get Excel to average based on different dates? Or basically, how do I get it to pull rows between 2 inputs?

I am trying to figure out how to take the average of the last 4 "non-zero" numbers in a series of values.
The sheet looks something like this, numbers are all in one row:
7 , 7 , 7 , 7 , Total = 28 , 8 , 8 , 8 , 8 , Total = 32 , 0 , 0 , 0 , 0 , Total = 0 , 8 , 8 , 8 , 8 , Total = 32 , 7 , 7 , 7 , 7 , Total = 28 , 8 , 8 , 8 , 8 , Total = 32 , 0 , 0 , 0 , 0 , Total = 0 , 8 , 8 , 8 , 8 , Total = 32
I'm looking for a formula that will look at all the last few totals (starting from the end) and take an average of the last 4 totals that were > 0. In this case it would average {32, 32, 28, 32} ignoring the 0 total.
=AVERAGE(INDEX(E5:IV5,LARGE(IF(E5:IV5<>"",COLUMN(E5:IV5)-COLUMN(E5)+1),5)):INDEX(E5:IV5,MATCH(9.99999999999999E+307,E5:IV5)))

I have cells O1 to O300 numbers in random sequences of no more than 10
I need to average the 5 highest numbers in each sequence eg:

2 20
3 4
4 6
5 14
6 12
7 8
8 10
9 16
10 18
11 blank cell
12 15 9 (result)
13 3
14 6
15 12
16 9
17 blank cell
18 blank cell
19 4 23 (result)
20 16
21 20
22 40
23 8
24 11
25 28
26 blank cell
down to 300 rows, the sequence of numbers can be from 1 to 10 but never
more than 10
I got a function : =IF(COUNT(O1:O10>=10,AVERAGE(LARGE(O1:O10,{1,2,3,4,5})),"
") but that works only for 10 numbers and not for less
Hello, I have a column with 100 numbers in it. I want to be able to choose a number N and then calculate the average, minimum and maximum of the first N numbers in the list.
I have played around with countif and sumproduct but can't figure it. I don't know how index works, and wonder if that is the key.
I want to pick the top five numbers out of a random list of numbers and get its average. What is the best way to go about doing this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get an average of a couple numbers, but I have to enter both numbers in one cell.
I have to enter the numbers in a cell as a range (ex. "1000-3000"). I need to convey it as a range in the spreadsheet I am doing, but in a separate cell I need the average of the extremes (1000 & 3000). Is there a formula or anything that would let me get the average of those two numbers(2000) directly from that one cell? If needed, I could make the cell "1000,3000" instead. I just don't want to make two separate cells, one saying 1000 and the other saying 3000.
Column B values are the average of the most recent five values in column A.
The formula in Cell C1 is “=B7” so that the value in C1 is 1.17. My question is: When I place a value in cell A8, which will result in the average of the five numbers in column A4-A8 being placed in cell B8 how do I make the value in C1 change to be the value which is in cell B8 rather than the value which is in cell B7?
Note: I just want to be able to pick up the most recent average value – the
method whereby it is done is of no consequence. However I cannot think
of an alternative. Example:.....
I am trying to average a column of numbers. I want to only average the cells
