Change Sheet Index Numbers In VBA?

Oct 23, 2009

1Does Excel process worksheets (tabs) in the left-to-right order in which the tabs appear visually? Or in the order of the worksheets' index numbers as they appear in the VBE Project Explorer window? 2Is there a way to renumber or reassign index numbers to specific worksheets?

Possible To Change The Index Numbers Within A Collection

Feb 1, 2010

I have created a userform that upon clicking a commandbutton adds a line of 4 textboxes. Everytime the user clicks the commandbutton a new line of textboxes is created. The 4 textboxes in each line are described by a class (hope I am using the terminology correctly). And each instance is saved in a collection. The problem is that I am giving the user the ability to insert a new row in between two existing rows.

When this happens, I need all of the index numbers to re-order so that they are consecutive from the top of the form to the bottom. Example: The user enters 6 rows of data and then realizes that they missed an item that needs to be inserted between rows 3 and 4. Currently the rows are indexed 1 to 6 with 1 being the row at the very top of the form and 6 being the row at the very bottom of the form. If I insert a row in between 3 and 4 I will end up with the index numbers going from top of the form to bottom (1,2,3,7,4,5,6). Is it possible to reorder the index numbers so that the inserted rows index number will be 4 and each row after that will go up by one?

Index Function - Data Identified Based On A List Of Account Numbers And Return This Data To A New Sheet

May 8, 2007

I have a multiple column spreadsheet (Call it- "Money") whereby I need the data identified based on a list of account numbers and return this data to a new sheet.

In "Money" I have:

IE; columns B, C respectively have cust #A100 & 20.00
columns E, F respectively have cust #B100 & 40.00
columns G,H respectively have cust #C100 & 60.00
Etc.

(above for illustration-there are 100 lines of data in these columns with varied account numbers and respective dollars)

So what I have now is a new sheet I have named "Control". I have listed all my account numbers like A100,B100 etc. in column A. These are the account numbers for ident purposes.

I need the data entered in "Money" identified by those columns B,E,G with respective amounts from C,F,H and based on the list I have in "Control" whereby in "Control" if A100 is listed in column A then the figure to be returned in column B is all the data bits found in all columns C,F,H from the entire sheet "Money". Tough to explain but ie below....

Detect Numbers In A Cell Range And Then Change Cells Based On What Numbers Are Found?

Feb 27, 2014

I'm going to be using a spreadsheet to keep track of where different people are at. So if Person 1 is in Room 3, I will stick a 3 in the box next to their name and then can look at the spreadsheet whenever I need and see what room they are in. When I'm deciding what room to put a person in, though, I need to be able to quickly glance at a list of Room #'s and see what one's are still available. So I have a bank of Room #'s in the spreadsheet....1,2,3, etc.

What I'd like, is some way to set this up so that when I put, for example, "3" in the cell next to "Person 1" the spreadsheet automatically removes "3" from the bank of available Room #'s and when I delete the "3" because the person has left, it adds "3" back to the bank of available Rooms.

Index Match Between 2 Numbers?

May 16, 2014

I am attaching an example of what I am trying to do.

sheet 1 is how the jobs are assigned - Each job is assigned based on the part type and the last 2 digits of the order number. For example, Jon works any order that needs wheels and the last 2 digits of the order number are between 00 and 49.

sheet 2 is current jobs - this sheet shows the current job by order number and part, the employee column (C) is empty and is where I would like the formula and result

sheet 3 is the result I am looking for - formula results are in yellow.

So what I am trying to do is make it so that as employees come and go and assignment of jobs change on sheet 1, sheet 2 will automatically update the employee name to match.

Change The Index Number When Match

Jan 16, 2010

I have to do a vlookup in 12 sheets (named ranges)

I use the formula '=vlookup(a1;choose(1;range1;range2; etc);2;0)

In this case I have to change the 'choose index_num' every time to match.

Is it possible to do the lookup without changing the 'choose index_num'?

Change Index Whithin A Collection

Apr 2, 2008

I have several collections of objects in a macro I have created. However I would now like to be able to shift the order of these objects around (ie increase or decrease its index by 1 each time, and shift the other objects around it). For example I have collection1 which contains three objects x,y, and z with indexes 1, 2, and 3 respectively. I now want to give y the index of 1, and so shift x up to 2 so the resultant order is y, x, z. Is there anyway I can do this whithout copying all objects to another collection and recopying back in the desired order?

Checking Range Of Numbers With Index Match?

Dec 16, 2013

I have a standard table with quite a few rows. Columns I have are :

Text | Lower number | Higher number

What I would like to do is, in another worksheet, enter a number and I'd like to go through the table and if the entered number is in the range of the Lower and Higher number columns, have the Text displayed.

Using Index Match I can do this if the number matches Lower or Higher number but not if it's between them.

Vlookup With Changing Column Index Numbers

Sep 25, 2009

I've 2 worksheets, Summary and Sales. I need to get the total sales figure from the "Sales" worksheet onto the Summary worksheet. Sales data are pasted onto the worksheet monthly. Tried using vlookup but problem is, the column containing the total sales figure may vary and I need to update the vlookup formula. Another problem is that sometimes the Total sales (the lookup value) is not in the first column. Tried using the Index and Match combo but cannot get it to work. I've attached a simple mock up to hopefully illustrate my case better. I believe the experts in this forum should find this rather easy!

Macro For Putting Index Reference Numbers In Numerical Sequence?

The structure is for example: Employment, 587, 592, 553, 605, 233 The term is always following by comma and then space and listing of page numbers that subject reference applies. Find Three Largest Numbers From A Variable Starting Index Match Point

Sep 1, 2013

My data is set out in columns, where alternate columns provide day numbers for given years (we can call these type 1 columns), with adjacent columns containing values which correspond to those type 1 column day numbers (we can call these type 2 columns). There are about a hundred columns in total (50 of each type). I would like to get excel to return the three largest numbers within each type 2 column, but I want to exclude data within the type 2 column above the point which is adjacent to a specific (varying) day number in the type 1 column. The location of this point varies for all the type 1 columns, according to a third row of numbers (the look up start point), which are currently listed below the dataset in every type 1 column. So, for the type 1 column "year 1", I would want Excel to ignore the values 0 and 1, which are listed next to day numbers 78 and 79, and begin looking for the three largest values down the column starting from the value which is adjacent to 81 (which is a 2). In type 1 column "year 2", excel would start looking for the largest values from the cell adjacent to 78, so it would ignore the 18 at the top of the column, and would return 2 and 12. And so on.

Creating And Naming A New Sheet From An Index

Apr 29, 2009

I'm attempting to create a database on Excel 2007 to create a record of all the documents I use at work. At the moment I have an index sheet where I enter the indivudual project numbers. Is it possible in VB to take a value from this index sheet, copy an existing (template within the workbook) sheet and rename the new tab with the project number from the index?

Example:

As there will be many projects within the database is it possible to code it such that:

New Sheet1 created from template within workbook -> Tab renamed according to value of 'Index!B4'

New Sheet2 created from template within workbook -> Tab renamed according to value of 'Index!B5'

New Sheet3 created from template within workbook -> Tab renamed according to value of 'Index!B6'

and so on......

Further, is it also possible to automatically create the new sheet as soon as a project number is entered into 'Index!B4', 'Index!B5', 'Index!B6'?

ie: Text entered in 'Index!B4' -> new sheet created and renamed automatically

Vlookup - Referencing Sheet Index

Dec 4, 2009

I am trying to find out whether it is possible to reference to a sheet index number, instead of sheet name, in a VLOOKUP formula.

For instance, normally I would write:

VLOOKUP(A1,'ExampleSheet'!A1:B10,2,False)

(I hope got the translation to English language Excel correct)

Let's say that the sheet index of Examplesheet is 2 (at least it is 2 the way VBA sees it).

Is there a way I could reference sheet number 2 in the VLOOKUP formula, instead of its name? My sheet names vary, but the formula should look in the same area, regardless of name.

Index / Array Return A Value From Same Column In Another Sheet

The summary sheet is headed:......
I want the formula to say - find the summary sheet max value cell in the main data sheet row 2 (for XYZ) and return the corresponding column from row 1 (year). I've got myself in a muddle trying to create array data from the index function and want something simple. There are only about 30 rows so am happy to manually select the rows in question and repeat the formula entry so it doesn't need to be fancy.
