Possible To Change The Index Numbers Within A Collection

Feb 1, 2010

I have created a userform that upon clicking a commandbutton adds a line of 4 textboxes. Everytime the user clicks the commandbutton a new line of textboxes is created. The 4 textboxes in each line are described by a class (hope I am using the terminology correctly). And each instance is saved in a collection. The problem is that I am giving the user the ability to insert a new row in between two existing rows.

When this happens, I need all of the index numbers to re-order so that they are consecutive from the top of the form to the bottom. Example: The user enters 6 rows of data and then realizes that they missed an item that needs to be inserted between rows 3 and 4. Currently the rows are indexed 1 to 6 with 1 being the row at the very top of the form and 6 being the row at the very bottom of the form. If I insert a row in between 3 and 4 I will end up with the index numbers going from top of the form to bottom (1,2,3,7,4,5,6). Is it possible to reorder the index numbers so that the inserted rows index number will be 4 and each row after that will go up by one?

Change Index Whithin A Collection

Apr 2, 2008

I have several collections of objects in a macro I have created. However I would now like to be able to shift the order of these objects around (ie increase or decrease its index by 1 each time, and shift the other objects around it). For example I have collection1 which contains three objects x,y, and z with indexes 1, 2, and 3 respectively. I now want to give y the index of 1, and so shift x up to 2 so the resultant order is y, x, z. Is there anyway I can do this whithout copying all objects to another collection and recopying back in the desired order?

Series Collection Names Instead Of Numbers?

Aug 30, 2013

I have a graph with something like 40 series that are being plotted. For one, I create non-standard data labels using VBA. In that code, I refer to ChartObjects(1).Chart.SeriesCollection(34). At some point I deleted a series that preceded it in the "select data" list and the code crashed. Took a lot of digging to learn that SeriesCollection(34) had become SeriesCollection(33).

To avoid this in the future, is there a way to refer to the SeriesCollection by a unique name rather than a sequential number?

Detect Numbers In A Cell Range And Then Change Cells Based On What Numbers Are Found?

Feb 27, 2014

I'm going to be using a spreadsheet to keep track of where different people are at. So if Person 1 is in Room 3, I will stick a 3 in the box next to their name and then can look at the spreadsheet whenever I need and see what room they are in. When I'm deciding what room to put a person in, though, I need to be able to quickly glance at a list of Room #'s and see what one's are still available. So I have a bank of Room #'s in the spreadsheet....1,2,3, etc.

What I'd like, is some way to set this up so that when I put, for example, "3" in the cell next to "Person 1" the spreadsheet automatically removes "3" from the bank of available Room #'s and when I delete the "3" because the person has left, it adds "3" back to the bank of available Rooms.

Index Match Between 2 Numbers?

May 16, 2014

I am attaching an example of what I am trying to do.

sheet 1 is how the jobs are assigned - Each job is assigned based on the part type and the last 2 digits of the order number. For example, Jon works any order that needs wheels and the last 2 digits of the order number are between 00 and 49.

sheet 2 is current jobs - this sheet shows the current job by order number and part, the employee column (C) is empty and is where I would like the formula and result

sheet 3 is the result I am looking for - formula results are in yellow.

So what I am trying to do is make it so that as employees come and go and assignment of jobs change on sheet 1, sheet 2 will automatically update the employee name to match.

Is it possible to do the lookup without changing the 'choose index_num'?

Tried using vlookup but problem is, the column containing the total sales figure may vary and I need to update the vlookup formula. Another problem is that sometimes the Total sales (the lookup value) is not in the first column. Tried using the Index and Match combo but cannot get it to work. I've attached a simple mock up to hopefully illustrate my case better. I believe the experts in this forum should find this rather easy!

Find Three Largest Numbers From A Variable Starting Index Match Point

Sep 1, 2013

My data is set out in columns, where alternate columns provide day numbers for given years (we can call these type 1 columns), with adjacent columns containing values which correspond to those type 1 column day numbers (we can call these type 2 columns). There are about a hundred columns in total (50 of each type). I would like to get excel to return the three largest numbers within each type 2 column, but I want to exclude data within the type 2 column above the point which is adjacent to a specific (varying) day number in the type 1 column. The location of this point varies for all the type 1 columns, according to a third row of numbers (the look up start point), which are currently listed below the dataset in every type 1 column. So, for the type 1 column "year 1", I would want Excel to ignore the values 0 and 1, which are listed next to day numbers 78 and 79, and begin looking for the three largest values down the column starting from the value which is adjacent to 81 (which is a 2). In type 1 column "year 2", excel would start looking for the largest values from the cell adjacent to 78, so it would ignore the 18 at the top of the column, and would return 2 and 12. And so on.

Year2

Year3

ComboBoxes Collection?

Jun 20, 2006

I am using the following code to determine whether a given range is the linked cell for a Combo Box by looping through the shapes collection.

Function LocateFormControl(OverRange As Range) As Shape
Dim objTemp As Shape
For Each objTemp In OverRange.Parent.Shapes
If Left(objTemp.name, 6) = "Drop D" Then
If WorksheetFunction.Substitute(objTemp.ControlFormat.linkedcell, "$", "") = WorksheetFunction.Substitute(OverRange.Address, "$", "") Then
Set LocateFormControl = objTemp
Exit Function
End If
End If
Next
Set LocateFormControl = Nothing
End Function

However, when I use this code on big worksheets with many other shape objects (such as Comments), the program runs very slowly. Is there a ComboBoxes Collection that I could use to avoid looping through all shapes on the worksheet, or is there a different, faster way to run this code?

Index Function - Data Identified Based On A List Of Account Numbers And Return This Data To A New Sheet

May 8, 2007

I have a multiple column spreadsheet (Call it- "Money") whereby I need the data identified based on a list of account numbers and return this data to a new sheet.

In "Money" I have:

IE; columns B, C respectively have cust #A100 & 20.00
columns E, F respectively have cust #B100 & 40.00
columns G,H respectively have cust #C100 & 60.00
Etc.

(above for illustration-there are 100 lines of data in these columns with varied account numbers and respective dollars)

So what I have now is a new sheet I have named "Control". I have listed all my account numbers like A100,B100 etc. in column A. These are the account numbers for ident purposes.

I need the data entered in "Money" identified by those columns B,E,G with respective amounts from C,F,H and based on the list I have in "Control" whereby in "Control" if A100 is listed in column A then the figure to be returned in column B is all the data bits found in all columns C,F,H from the entire sheet "Money". Tough to explain but ie below....

Defining A Variable As New Collection

I have executed the code line-by-line over-and-over and believe what the "new collection" does is it creates some type of external database that is hidden within excel (that's just my guess). I have attached a sample file and a text file with dummy data if needed to see how the code is working.

Collection Of Objects - Add Method

Collection Of Userform Checkboxes?

May 2, 2007

I have a userform with three checkboxes on it. In the manuals I have read (and websites I am learning from) I have encountered articles that give me the impression that it is possible to create a collection of almost any object, and then quickly return properties about the collection as a whole. So, I am wondering, is it possible (or even appropriate) to group the checkboxes on this userform into a collection, and then, with a few lines of code, see if any of them are checked? If this is not possible, or efficient, is there another way to do it? I'll admit that three IF statements are not all that hard to enter, but I know the day is coming when I will make userforms with many more checkboxes in them.
