Comment Boxes On A Protected Worksheet

I am being asked to create a workbook where 80% of it is protected. And user input is restricted to specific columns and rows.

However the user wants column R unprotected so that Comment boxes can be used, but when I protect the workbooksheet the Insert option is not available when you right click.

how to copy the contents of multiple comment boxes and paste in a single comment box.

The big picture is that I have a number of cells with numerical values in and text in comment boxes. I want to be able to click a button to copy the contents of the comment boxes and paste them, along with the numerical value from the cell, into a single comment box, ordered by highest to lowest value within the comment box, then delete the original cells and comments.

I am quite new to VBA but have been coping quite well so far with information of the web and analysing recorded macros.

I am trying to write a VBA macro that will go from one sheet and copy a cell's text, then go back to the main sheet and insert this text into a "comment-box" type of thing.

The box I'm talking about is where you move the mouse over a cell and a box pops up with the comment in it.

Moving Comment Boxes

Is there an easy way to move a comment box? I have a comment box on a specific cell (hidden until mouse is hovering over it). Each day when new data is filled in, I need to move the comment down to the next cell. Right now, I click on edit comment, copy the comment, then click insert comment in the other cell, paste comment....then delete the old comment. Is there a way to just move the comment down to the next cell?

Comment Boxes Were Automatically Re-sized

I have a document with about 300 comment boxes, and I needed to enlarge each one to make the information visibly fit in the region. I did this, and was happy.

Then I opened the file on another computer, added a few rows, saved the file, and re-opened it on this one, and all the comment boxes in the original rows (the 300 i had, not the 15 I added later) had been reduced in size and not all the text is visible. Why did this happen? Is there an easy way to re-size all the boxes without doing them one at a time?

Print Track Changes Comment Boxes

Is it possible to print a workbook and have the "track changes on screen" show on the hard copy? I'm using Excel's track changes option to monitor changes to a workbook. I've selected the box "Highlight Changes on Screen". I would like the box containing the change (which pops up when you hover your mouse over the cell) to print out with the workbook so users can see what was changed when reviewing the hard copy. This is preferable to using the "List changes on a new sheet" option since it would require flipping between multiple pages.

The comment boxes keep changing shape and location in my spreadsheet. Some are completely smashed together, while others are extraodinarily wide. I had them all to the right of the cell they applied to; but now they are all over the place.

Allow Locked Cell Comment Viewing On Protected Sheet

I just realized that some of my comments on a worksheet are being cut off or not viewable. By Default the Comment is displayed to the Right of its cell. I have a Scroll Lock to prevent users from scrolling off the work area. Some of the comments are being displayed past this scroll area and the user is unable to read the comments as they are being cut off or being displayed beyond the scroll area.

Is there anyway to reposition or set the area that these comments are displayed? For Example, to the Left of the cell so that they are able to be viewed. The Workbook is Protected and the Cells with comments are locked so the user won't be able to click on the cell. I found 2 Codes that would work if the user could either click on the cell or if the comment always visible(they are not)

Error On Protected Sheet Even If Autofilter And Sort Boxes Are Ticked

If I protect a sheet but tick the boxes to allow sorting and autofilter I still get an erro when I try to use the sort buttons on the autofilter.

It allows me to use the filters but as soon as I sort I get told to unprotect the cells im trying to sort.

Is there a way around this where I can keep formulas from being touched but allow sorting of data through autofilter?

Copy Comment To Designated Cells On Another Worksheet Using Macro

I really appreciate help from the excel gurus and expert here on my little problem. I'm rarely using excel and have a very little knowledge on VBA programming.In short, I've been requested to develop a shift schedule for my department that can automate the shift staff schedule on the monthly basis.

I've created two worksheet of which the first worksheet is represent as master data list (INPUT Worksheet) that contain with formulas. While the other worksheet is the automated shift data (REPORT Worksheet) that linked from the master data list (INPUT Worksheet).

Attached herewith is a sample of my work. As you can see,I wanted to copy comments from the input worksheets (on DUTY column) so that it will then automatically appears or updated in the shift schedule. Whenever the dropdown selection change, the data will change accordingly. On the REPORT worksheet, each cells, range D14:AH38 are referring to DUTY column month by month. I'm able to link it but it fails to copy over the comments as well. I believe that macro can resolve this, can someone help me on this?

I'm sure you're all familiar with Text Boxes:

You can add shapes and text boxes (text box: A movable, resizable container for text or graphics. Use text boxes to position several blocks of text on a page or to give text a different orientation from other text in the document.) to a worksheet by using the Drawing toolbar.

Did you know that if you click the text box button, then click on a spreadsheet (inserting a blank text box), then click off the text box, a small blank text box will remain hidden from view on your spreadsheet? Once hidden, the only way to find it is to slowly move your cursor over the Text Box edge, and watch the cursor momentarily change shape. Did you also know that if you copy or fill down the cells behind that text box, it will make as many copies of itself as you made for the cell? Not too dis-similar from a virus.

Imagine what would happen if you unknowingly had some of these text boxes on your main calculation sheet (200 columns by 2000 rows); one where you regularly copied formulae/cells for a period of over four years. Yes, (judging by their names e.g. "Text Box 29413") the thriving population of these invisible beasties is now in the neighbourhood of thirty thousand! The damn things are worse than fleas; and they're impairing the function of the whole workbook.

Help! Would someone please provide a VBA macro to find, select and delete these little devils from the spreadsheet (just this one spreadsheet)?

Refreshing Protected Worksheet

I have this workbook to keep track of current and new work for the team - each individual inputs information on their own tab.

In turn, the current information is displayed on a summary page so we can all see who's doing what.

I want to protect that summary page and its formulas from accidental amendment.

However, while the summary page (when unprotected) updates as soon as someone enters new information on their own tab, the summary page won't update when I have it protected.

Is there any way of doing this - preferably without VBA as it's a work situation and the employer doesn't like VBA code running?

Combo Box On Protected Worksheet

I've built a workbook using Excel 2000 that uses several combo boxes. When I try to protect the workbook the combo boxes become locked, even when I have done FORMAT CONTROL / PROTECTION and unticked the LOCKED box. Is this normal?. I also have data validation cells and they work fine if I unlock them and Protect the workbook. As a result, I am thinking of converting the combo boxes to data validation cells, but should I even need to do this

Data Form On Protected Worksheet.

I have a data list which needs to be updated by others on a shared drive. I want to protect the worksheet as there is other info on it (advancefilter from the main list). The problem is that the >>Data>>Form tool will open, but all the boxes necessary to update the list are greyed out (New, Delete etc.)

My other option is to create a macro to advance filter out the other data to another worksheet.

I was able to create a macro that allows a user to unhide rows in a protected worksheet without unprotecting the other locked fields (see below). My question is: I want to add to this command so that 1 row can not be "unhidden" if the previous row is still hidden. For example, row 25 can not be unhidden if row 24 is still hidden.

I have A TABLE (Named Table1) and some columns filled by formula. (Like E,F,G,H columns) When I protect the worksheet E,F,G,H columns are locked, but A,B,C,D columns are UNLOCKED. When is sheet PROTECTED , If I add a row bottom of Table1, does NOT automatically fill the E,F,G,H columns and Table1 range does not expanding. But, if UNPROTECTED, it's OK. when add a row bottom of Table1, automatically fill all columns with formula and table range is expanding aotomatically with new row.

When sheet is PROTECTED , How can I allow, to add a row and aouto fill all columns like unprotected.

And I want to protect sheet in any case, after allowing to add row.

I have (several) worksheets that have protection enabled. I have unlocked all the cells that users need access to and locked all the column and row headers/labels.
When I enabled protection on the sheets, the ability to add comments was taken away.
