Extracting And Comparing Information From Pivot Table?
Jan 14, 2014I have some data that I have created a report from. However it doesn't show a "true" picture for the stat we want. I have a pivot table set up with data showing the hours worked for an individual. What I am wanting to do would be to cross reference the data but not sure how to compare data. I have provided some make shift data to see if it is even feasible. The end goal is to get a true picture of P.P.H The data we are able to get is in a horrible format. I would eventually like to automate this in VBA but will work on the later. I thought about doing a vlookup but the is no real matching data for all employees. Some of the names are wrong in one system and there is no matching emp ID.

Mar 1, 2009I have fixed amount of columns (6 in example: can be seen at sheet called "llist1", more in real example:"real example of list1") and rows (8 in example, 62 in “real example").
These 6 "analyzed" columns consist 3 type of info, basically there were 3 columns, which were "cut" to 6. In my example those types of info are called "name1"(columns A and F), "name2"(B and G) and "a or b"(C and H). Also there are rows, which should not be “analyzed”.
First, according to example sheet called "list1", i need to extract unique values from some "fixed" rows of columns A and F, more detailed: a2:a4 a6:a8 f2:f4 f6:f8. Probably, a named list should be created. Also it would be great, if these names will be extracted in alphabetical order. This is the first problem.
Then there goes second, the big one, problem: I need to extract unique values from !"rows of fixed rows"! of columns B and G "for" extracted unique values from columns A and F.
It is really easier to understand if you look at the analyzed information structure at the example sheet and what I want have in the end at "ideal" or "wanted" sheets.
By saying "rows of rows" I mean something like this: cell B2 contains this:
1st "row": abc-301
2nd "row": abc-302
3rd "row: abc-303
All this rows, thanks god, always contain 7 signs. I suppose a second named list is needed here, i e: b2:b4 b6:b8 g2:g4 g6:g8
After that I need to count A's or B's, according to rows, already done that myself using asterisks.
how can i attach an excel file? checkick the faq info, the spreadsheet will appear in a couple of minutes...
Comparing Two Excel Sheets With Unique Keys
Aug 18, 2009I need to compare the 2 sheets with respect to a unique key. Once the unique key matches , I need to compare 5 other columns of the two excel sheet.
Note : There could be missing rows in either of the excel , so its necessary that we look up 2nd sheet completely to find the unique key.
For Example : In sheet 1 : The unique key is preent in column B and in Sheet 2: The unique key is present in column I. Once we locate the rows in both the sheets with the unque key matching, we would need to comapre , columns A, C, E AND F of the sheet 1 with columns A,B,C AND D of sheet 2.
We need to report if all the data matches when the unique key is same.
Finding Unique Names When Comparing Two Lists
Jan 25, 2010I have two different lists of names. One is about 3000 names long and the other has about 3500 names. I want to identify the 500 people that are not in the first list that are in the second. If there anyway to do this? I was going to put them in A-Z order and then go through and using an IF(A=B,"yes","no") and go through and insert new cell when ever it says no till it says yes BUT the functions start messing up when I insert a new row and it's taking way too long.

ADVANCED: Extracting Unique Records
Oct 25, 2006At the moment i am having great trouble taking two sets of records, comparing the two based on certain criteria and then extracting any records (rows) that do not appear twice, that is unique records.
So here it is:
I have two lists of sales.
1. our list from our point of sale system with order numbers and other details, entered by the sales agent.
2. the company that provides the products we sell for them sends us a list of these sales back to us from their end so we can see outcomes of these sales, that is the progress of the order, like cancelled, accepted, etc
The two lists need to be compared to see what sales are missing from either one..
so, I could colour the second list RED and the first list GREEN and add the second list underneath the first list (on the same sheet) and then sort by ORDER NUMBER, which would provide a red, green, red, green, red, etc pattern and i could easily identify sales that are unique, but there are so many thousands of sales this manual process is impossible.
IS THERE A WAY TO AUTOMATICALLY COMPARE THESE TWO LISTS BASED ON ORDER NUMBER AND SHOW ONLY THE RECORDS THAT ARE UNIQUE? THAT IS, GET RID OF SALES THAT APPEAR TWICE AND LEAVE ONLY RECORDS THAT I HAVE TO LOOK INTO WHY THEY ARENT ON BOTH SALES SHEETS...
Here is an example of the data i am using:

the numbers do NOT have the .. - or + next to them, thats just there to show you what list each is from.
so as you can see the order numbers with ".." next to them are reconciled, in that they have a partener record and do not need to be shown at all..
and the order numbers with "-" next to them are from our list
and the order numbers with "+" next to them are from THEIR list
i want to end up with a list like this:

Feb 20, 2012I am looking for a way to extract all of the unique items in a Pivot Table. For example, I have a Pivot Table that has category A items and category B items. There may be several B items to one A. For example:
A0
B1
B2
B3A1
B3
B4
B5
Now, what I need is a list that looks like this:
A0 - B1
A0 - B2
A0 - B3
A1 - B3
A1 - B4
A1 - B5
Formatted so that those are two columns. However, in Excel 2007, I cannot set the option to have it repeat the A series items in the Pivot table. Is there some easier way to do this?

What I'm trying to do is making a summary sheet that has only the first record with unique values using the Job number, part number, and lot number as the criteria. The grand total in the first record is the total for all of that job,part,lot so i need to bring that value over to the sheet as well. I have been able to do this easily with the duplicate finder, but need a formula to automatically do this.

Jun 8, 2006I need to compare a value to several cells and print the value into a new cell if and only if the value is not in any of the cells I am comparing to.
Say cells A1, A4, A8 and A12 contains different numbers. I want to compare a value, say 120, to the values of the above cells and if it is not contained in one of those cells I want to enter 120 into cell A16. If A1, A4, A8 or A12 contains the value 120 I want to leave A16 blank or write 0 to it.
Is there an easy way of doing this? Right now I am using a if-test for each of the cells I am comparing to, but this gets very messy as the number of cells increases.

Mar 16, 2007how to compare two cells (say, today's date with the date an order was supposed to be sent out), with a third cell that either has a tick in it, or nothing. If there's an easier way to do this other than VB code, I haven't found it. I tried conditonal formatting but it wouldn't let me have a condition in which it just checked the third cell, it needed to compare it with the selected one.

Extracting Data From Cells In A Row Based On Other Cells
Apr 30, 2007Please check the attached workbook. Sheet "Data" has some bank account data, and whether the dues are paid or pending.
What I need is, I need to extract only the data of Column A and B into a new worksheet, only if G is in the Pending status.
I don't want to use a macro, nor a pivot, nor autofilter. I need to do it through formulas. I have seen this been done before, but can't figure it out. The max number of pending accounts wont be more than 10, so need to just pull the formula down 10 rows. I have already entered the data in the second sheet that would be the result.
This second sheet is sort of a supervisor sheet, so that whenever they want they can open it to see the number of Pending accounts.
Comparing Multiple Cells
Feb 11, 2009I have two excel files. The data is arranged by column. I want to take 3 or more cells (from three different columns) from a particular row and match them up with three cells (in 3 different columns but in the same row). The three cells should be in the same row. However the matching row may appear in a different order in each of the two lists. When Excel finds a match, I want it to return true. How can I go about doing something like this?
I have attached a file explaining what I mean. I am trying to match the three cells in list one with three cells in one of the rows in list 2. However the number of cells in each list is different and there are some cells in list 2 which are not in list 1 and vice versa. There may also be extra columns, which I have not included for the sake of simplicity.

More clearer I have a workbook with two sheets (Sheet1 and Sheet2). What I would like the macro to do is to check cell A1 in Sheet1 and compare it to cell A1 in Sheet2 and so on till the last cell (IV65536). If there is a differnce between the two cells, then it should highlight the background of the cell in Sheet1.

Jan 26, 2005I have a spreadsheet that has long text sentences in each cell. I have a 2nd spreadsheet which is a slightly updated version of the first spreadsheet. The slight updates consisted of editing the odd word here or there out of the first spreadsheet.
Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of the changes I made, and I need to know what they are.
It's easy to tell if a change has been made, simply by comparing the cells. But I can't find an easy way to find out exactly what change was made. Comparing the cells a line at a time is very time consuming.

Look at each name in Col A MAIN sheet.
See if there is a match in Col A of STATS sheet.

Rows To Colums
Aug 11, 2009I have a sheet with products and information regarding these products. It is consistently build up in a 5-row information block per product like:
A1: name
A2: info
A3: price
A4: to be deleted
A5: to be deleted
What I want:
A1: name
B1: description
C1: Price
For product 2 it should:
A6 -> A2
A7 -> B2
A8 -> C2
A9 -> to be deleted
A10 -> to be deleted ..etcetera
The Macro should loop until no data is found in the A column. Note: some of the 2nd rows (information) are not filled. They can't be deleted but need to be left empty!

For example:
If game finishes 4-3 I'd like to compare it for every players guessed score and give points according to this:
1. If the bet is completely correct (4-3) -> Return 10 (points). In case of tie (like 3-3, -> Return 20 (points)
2. If the bet has a correct winner, with correct goals for eather team (4-x / x-3) -> Return 4 (points)
3. If the bet has a correct winner (home/visitor) -> Return 3 (points)
4. If the bet has incorrect winner but amount of goals for eather team correct -> Return 1 (point)
5. If the bet is completely wrong -> Return 0 (points)
At least for me, this sounds more like rocket science but just wanted to check if this is anyway doable.
