Control Source For Text Box

Jul 14, 2006

I have a workbork for employee time keeping. I have designed an Input Box that has 15 text boxes (7 diff hour types, 2 weeks, one total box). I have everything working properly except I want to make the control source relative. When the user clicks on a name of an employee (A column), then clicks the macro button, the Input Box appears. I need the text boxes to be linked to the cells E:S on the same row as the active cell. I've tried typing in ActiveCell.Offset(0,4) and variants of it, but all are rejected. How can I link the text boxes using active cell and offset?

Cannot Set Control Source Property

Aug 31, 2007

I am trying to set a controlsource property so that when a cell on a worksheeet is changed, the label will also change. However, when I try to set the controlsource I get an error that says :

Could not set the ControlSource property. Invalid property value.

I've tried it with a label in the code,

lblUser.ControlSource = Worksheets("User List").Range("C1")

and I've tried it in the properties window of a textbox, and I cannot get either to work. I've also unprotected the sheet first, thinking that might have something to do with it.

Listbox Control Source Causing Error

Oct 26, 2008

why this is causing an error upon opening the file. This workbook has a userform with a listbox (single list, single selection), and when I have the ControlSource property set it causes an error upon opening the userform (which opens when the file is opened), whereas if I do not have the ControlSource property set to anything, it seems to work fine.

Interestingly, if I set the file up to not open the userform with the file, and instead have the userform open when a worksheet control such as a command button is clicked, it doesn't seem to matter if the ControlSource property is set or not. The workbook in question is attached.

ComboBox Control Source Update With Multiple UserForms

Oct 12, 2006

Excel – Forms – Combo Box, cell updating.

I have a form (the main one) which accesses a second form, which accesses a third form. All forms have a combo box, control button and a text box.

The items selected in the control boxes are entered into cells (the base cells) in the spreadsheet, via “Control Source”. The text boxes access these cells and show the selected items, which are then copied to other cells via a macro on activating the control button in the main form.

The main form stays open while other items are selected and transferred. Some of the items may not be changed (reselected) as they may be common. The problem is that after a number of items have been selected and transferred, the base cells for the second and third text boxes do not update after a selection from the combo boxes, and they continue to show a previously selected item.

The problem can be solved by closing the 2nd and 3rd forms and starting again. What can I do keep the cells updating without closing the form down?

Set Textbox Control Source To Hidden Worksheet NOT Active Worksheet?

May 6, 2014

I have created an excel worksheet that will provide budgeting and estimating tools for my project managers. All data used to be manual entry and took a good while to complete. I am trying to automate the process with VBA.

I created a UserForm called InfoVerify1. On that form I have TextBox 1 - 10. When the UF opens, the boxes display project information from my worksheet called "Basis of Estimate", also known as Sheet26.

The TextBox1 ControlSource is set to "E4". When I run the macro with Sheet26 active, the proper information fills in. However, when I am on the Start page or any other worksheet and I run the macro, it tries to fill in the text boxes with E4, etc, from the active sheet. I tried changing the ControlSource to "Sheet26,E4" or any combo thereof with only error messages.

how to get it to refer to a cell on a particular worksheet and hold to that worksheet no matter which sheet I am on at the time I run the Userform?

Copy Web Text / Source?

Oct 29, 2009

The problem is, these identifiers are in no discernable or predictable pattern. I cannot open the page directly in excel, nor can I use the Import Data from Web function (2007) ... results are simply a blank page.

What I thought I could do, then, is automate the procedure that obtains the source code, which I can parse and look for the current date. Once I have the line with the current date, I can extract the unique identifier, then paste it back into a string and resubmit to the browser.

I just can't figure out how to get to the source code... anybody out there have a way to get to it? Since this is going to ultimately be distributed to 20 or so analysts in different countries, I don't think I can use other tools (like the HTML Extractor from Iconico).

Search HTML Source Code For Text

Oct 21, 2009

I need to check a website daily to see if a link has been updated. If it has been updated, the beginning of the link changes to a different date. Example: today link is www.10212009dave.com and tomorrow link may be www.10222009dave.com. Lets say the link is on www.gugg.com. The link does not change everyday, but I think a good way to see if it has been updated is to search through the source code in the html for that link.

Thus I would put www.10212009dave.com into cell A1 and tell excel to search the source code on www.gugg.com, and if the contents of cell A1 is NOT found, I'd display a message box stating the link has been updated.

Extracting Source Data From A 'text-only' Pivot Table

Nov 29, 2007

I work in my Client's office and assist in settling construction disputes. Part of this work is to browse/search their server for documents that may assist in strengthening their case.

During this review I have found an excel document which is a text-only version of a pivot table, ie someone has done a copy, paste special, values into this sheet. I need to extract the original source data from this table back into the list format, as the original source of the data cannot be located

The row titles on the left are activity descriptions, the column headers are dates and the data in the body of the table is hours. As an idea of size the data is spread over 213 columns and 45 rows. Their are more blank cells in the table than entries.

What I would like to do is create the data in it's original form ie

Column A; Date
Column B; Activity Description
Column C; Hours

and have a separate row for each instance of an entry of hours from the pivot table.

TextBox Control Passes Number As Text

Aug 21, 2006

I am trying to store some information in a cell from a UserForm. The two sets of information I have are:

InvoiceNumber(number with no decimals)
InvoiceAmount(currency with two decimal points)

The problem I get is when I use the following command to store the information, it stores the information as text rather then a number.

Worksheets(CustomerName).Range("C" & Position + 1).Value = InvoiceNumber
Worksheets(CustomerName).Range("E" & Position + 1).Value = InvoiceAmount

I tried using the NumberFormat option as below, but it doesnt fix the problem.

Worksheets(CustomerName).Range("E" & Position + 1).NumberFormat = "$#,##0.00"
Worksheets(CustomerName).Range("C" & Position + 1).NumberFormat = "0"

Formula To Split Text Into Groups Of 30 Characters But Control As Well

May 28, 2014

I have previous been given the below macro from here that splits a string of text in one cell into groups of 30 and then puts them into several cells, works perfectly.

What I would like to incorpate now is the ability to overide the point at which it splits the text.
i.e. if the inputter puts a "|" (for example) in the original text, this will cause a split in the text and it will restart its 30 count from this point onwards.

Example of what I would like to achieve:

Cell A1 = I would like to change this string of text into groups of 30, where this appears | I would like it to start a new split of 30s from this point on wards and again if another one of these | appears in the text.

Cell B1 = I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE THIS
Cell C1 = STRING OF TEXT INTO GROUPS OF
Cell D1 = 30, WHERE THIS APPEARS

Using Data Validation To Control Text Length W/Vlookup

Mar 26, 2009

Can anyone provide a formula to be used in data validation that will control text length (6 digits) and restrict duplicate entries. The best formula will prevent anything other that 6 digits, but question the user regarding a duplicate entry.

For example: if the user enters 123456 no problem, but if 12345 is entered, Excel validation would not allow. If the user enters 123456 again, Excel's validation window would allow but the window will pop-up and ask to confirm.

ActiveX Control Text Box Inserted Which Is Not Letting To Fetch The Desirous Result?

Apr 20, 2014

In A1 there is an ActiveX Control Text Box inserted, now in A1 cell which is beneath this text box contain the formula that if A9 is blank than "Customer Name" should appear else it should show blank. But the problem is when I write some thing in this text box which is connected with A9, formula works as "Customer Name" disappears but when I delete in text box it simply acts as if something is still present in cell A9 and formula does not comeback to "Customer Name" again & therefore in order to appear "Customer Name" I have to go to A9 and press delete button to get the desirous result from the formula.

Readers are requested to make this formula work becz the situation in which this formula has been invented is well fitted and not other formula can supplant it.

Pivot Table Retains Old Source Data In Addition To New Source Data

Sep 7, 2006

I have a report that was created for 2005 that contains two worksheets: a "source data" worksheet and a " pivot table" worksheet. I cleared out the 2005 data in the "source data" worksheet and replaced it with 2006 data...after this I refreshed the Pivot Table and everything seemed fine. When looking at the file size I noticed that it was almost twice its original size....upon further investigation I found that the Pivot Table was internally holding onto the old source data (the "Show" functionality of the rows/columns in the table lists the 2005 row/column headers as well as the 2006 headers....even though no data from 2005 is shown in the Pivot Table).

Does anyone know how to purge the old data from the internal Pivot Table memory?

I hope this is enough information....let me know if you need more.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Jon

The form has a dynamic element, the user can choose the number of items they are ordering and it unhides the required number of text boxes. 'Save the main row
MainOrderRow = ActiveCell.Row
LastRow = MainOrderRow + (ExtraOrders - 1) ' Calculate the last row
ExtraOrderNo = 1

For DBRow = MainOrderRow To LastRow

' Save the text box name with the extra order number
k = "txtDescriptionMul" & ExtraOrderNo & ""
l = "txtQuantityMul" & ExtraOrderNo & ""
m = "txtTotalValueMul" & ExtraOrderNo & ""
n = "ComboBoxUnitMul" & ExtraOrderNo & ""...................
