View 6 RepliesI have a problem that when I try to convert text to number and format the number without 2 decimal places as seen on the link I have given below, Instead of 1607.947, I get 1607947. I have Excel 2010 loaded. The details are in below picture.

As the title says I was wanting to convert a date into an alphanumeric number.
After searching around for a long time the closest thread I could find was this one : [URL] ....
I would like to enter the date by dd/mm/yyyy and have it come out to an alphanumeric number.
The alphanumeric number for example would be C21501
Where "C" is the year starting from 2013. So in this case C would be 2015
Next two digits would be the week of that year. So 21 would be in the month of May
The following number would be the day of that week starting from Monday. So in this case 5 would be Friday.
The last two numbers would be the consecutive number for that day. For example two orders could be placed that same day so the first would be C21501 and the next would be C21502.
I need a formula to take the numbers listed in cells D4:D50
If below 1,000,000 than just keep that number value
EXAMPLE DATA
If the Ten Thousands place is 5 or below leave the same if it is higher round up. (use this concept for ALL PLACE VALUES
1,500,000 to 1.5 million (if the rest are zeros)
4,000,000 to 4 million
1,564,535 than to 1.57 million
1,545,535 than to 1.54 million
1,555,000 than to 1.55 million
Same concept for the rest as the Millions (move the rounded place up as needed)
So for Billions it would be 10 Millions place (to round form) I think lol
1,000,000,000 to 1 Billion
1,500,000,000 to 1.5 Billion
1,560,000,000 to 1.57 Billion
1,578,000,000 to 1.58 Billion
1,700,000,000 to 1.7 Billion
I would like this to continue all the way up to place value 999 QUADILLION! (if possible) if the value can go bigger that would be great!
I got following Hex data in text format, I need change them to decimal,
0324 00BF 0000 0000 030C 00C6 0000 0000
0305 00C7 0000 0000 02FE 300F 040B 4753
4D4D 5352 4E4D 5343 4E31 0030 0F0A 0101
firstly I did txt to columns, then I found some data changed to scientific format which is not I wanted as I could not convert it using function HEX2DEC.
032400BF00000000030C00C600000000
030500C70000000002FE300F040B4753
4D4D53524E4D53434.00E+3100300F0A0101
if I set column data format to text when I doing Text to Columns operation then all data will be text, so I still can not convert them to decimal.
I use hex2dec frequently and input with a hex 'E' such as 05e8 is misinterpreted as exponential notation. I can use =hex2dec("05e8") to get the correct value, but when the hex number is in another cell, I get the exponent assumption/ conversion (to 5 x 10e8), or a # NUM error if it is in quotes. This seems like a blatant problem but I've found no mention of it in searches or FAQs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have data on two spread sheets which I am trying to cross reference. On the 1st spread sheet I have a list of product codes e.g. 22886, On the 2nd Spread sheet I have a list of product titles which all include product codes within the text e.g. CHRISTMAS FANCY DRESS COSTUME - SANTA SPARKLE OUTFIT 22886 M
I need to insert a formula into the 1st spread sheet which will tell me if based on the product code it is present in the 2nd spread sheet. I have tried VLOOKUP and I think because I am trying to search for a code within a text string it keeps failing! All cells are general cells but the position of the code within the titles varies.
We use excel to organize salaries and contracts for my fantasy baseball league. I need an easy way to go through all the teams and subtract one year from each players contract. This is an example of a team.
The contracts are in the columns like this NG-3
I would like to change that to NG-2
Is it possible to increment / decrement cells using wild characters? I've found myself needing to increment values at different position, for e.g. :
ABC-###-FR05-AB
ABC-222-FR##-AB
C##445-KJ
where I would want to be incrementing # placeholders. It would help if I can give it a start number, and the increment amount (which can be different than 1).
What about possibly extending it a bit more to include two or more place holders at the same time as follows:
ABC##- FR*** (where # would have its own starting number and increment value, and * would have its own).
I want to be able to return a text string of either Trainee 1 or Trainee 2, (or default to other text) based on codes that are 4 digits (DD01, KKB1, KKB2, KKC2, GG03, etc, where starting with K and ending with 1 or 2 is the criteria for TR 1 or TR 2 . There are two many KK** items to list them all in an If statement and I can't seem to use a wildcard.
=IF (right(c1,1) = "1", "Trainee 1", B1)
gets me halfway there I think but of course doesn`t pick up Trainee 2 and also returns Trainee 1 when it sees DD01.
I am having an issue with formatting a cell to 'general'. I have a macro that runs using a formula (i.e. =MID(A12, 18,5)) to extract certain characters from an external data source. I then use only the values of that formula. There then is another macro that compares that value to another value in another worksheet. The issue I am having is when the macro runs, the code is read as ActiveCell.Offset(0, 3).Value...but instead of returning the value in 'general' format, it returns it with what appears to be text (i.e. "75.50" instead of 75.5). This acts as a mismatch since the quotes appear.
I have attempted several things to correct, but even if I try to format-->general it maintains the quotes. The only way it changes is if I click within the cell...then it turns to general (i.e."75.00" becomes 75.5). I am not sure what is the issue.
I am trying to create a unique sample code by putting together the values of other cells that a user will input. It's all working well apart from the last part, where I am trying to include a decimal number. I want the decimal number to appear without the central "." and in a four digit format. e.g. 2.5 would appear as 0250, 14.25 would appear as 1425. This is the formlua I am using currently:
=IF(ISBLANK(B4),"",IF(LEFT(C4,1)="w",(B4&"-"&TEXT(F4,"YYMMDD")&C4&TEXT(G4,"HHMM")),(B4&"-"&TEXT(F4,"YYMMDD")&C4&LEFT(TEXT(H4,"00"),2)&RIGHT(TEXT(H4,"00"),2))))
However, where the value of H4 is 2.5, I am getting a result of 0303 (I've put this part in bold). I have attached a small spreadsheet to aid understanding.

I need to separate a list of times from a telecommunications bill. I have 170,000 line of data.
The Times are represented as below.

46 46 Sec
59 59 Sec
100 1 Min
159 1 min 59 sec
200 2 mins

How do I separate them to a decimalized per min value.
I have a vba macro that takes data from one workbook and pastes it into another workbook. In doing this I have declared a few variables of type single (I only need two decimal precision). However, when I copy the values from the cells on the source workbook and paste them into the target workbook, the numbers end up having 12 decimal places. Ultimately, this extra precision causes my totals to be off by .01 or more after a while. I have tried rounding the number as I pull it off the source workbook into the variable, but that didn't matter. How do I solve this problem? Code for pulling data from source workbook:...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a combobox embedded into an excel sheet with a linked cell and a range defined in the combobox properties. Every time I change the value in the combobox, the value in the linked cell is stored as text instead of a number.
I have tried copying a cell containing 1 and copying and pasting as special into the linked cell but that only fixes it for the time being. If I change the value in the combobox again, the value in the linked cell is again stored as text. I tried =value() in the linked cell but that again only worked temporarily. Every time I change the value in the combobox, the value in the linked cell is stored as text.

I'm trying to write a macro that will convert a number into text but can't hone in on the right coding
here's what I want to do:
a.) I select a cell in my spreadsheet that contains a number, it can be in any format ie: 100, 7.7442, 22.3
b.) I launch the macro
c.) the macro converts the number into text and adds the letter T in the front so the new cell value becomes: T100, T7.7442, T22.3
I have a column formated as text that i need to convert to numbers.
Example: 0.01 (text format) into 0.01 (number format)
I need a formula to copy a number stored as a text to the number.
I have a formula in, let's say on Sheet1, cell A1: =IF($M$3,TEXT(N7,"0%"),TEXT(N7,"0.0%"))
I then copy this cell to another sheet, let's say Sheet2, cell A1 =Sheet1!A1. I have then have a bar chart linked to this cell, but it's reading it as text and no bars are appearing in the chart - even though the cell in the second sheet is formatted as a number!
FYI - my work around is to link my chart to the underlying data in the formula above, in this case, N7. But then I'm not getting the whole number (%) or decimal (%) that I want when the value is displayed in the chart.
How to convert number/text to text/number?
example
a=1
b=3
c=5
Let's say
1) column A1 value is "35", any formula/macro can auto convert to "bc" at B1?
2) column A1 value is "ab", any formula/macro can auto convert to "13" at B1?
I have a column of data that is a weight measurement. Some of the numbers are in lbs while some of the others are in kg. I am looking for a way to convert the kg measurements to lbs, then delete all the text (non-numbers) from the column leaving only the numerical weight values.

I just copied a range of data from a website however these numbers are in TEXT format.
Basically each number in this data set has a SPACE behind. This turn the number into a text itself and i cannot do a sum for this range of data. I tried TRIM function and also tried to format it to number but no luck. Also tried to mutilply the range to 1 yet they're still in text format.
I used =MONTH(A1) to convert a date to its relative month, but it comes out in number format (1 to 12). I want it to read JAN, FEB, MAR, etc.
