Converting A Number Into A Word Depending On Several Factors (age, *** Etc)

Nov 4, 2009

I have a spreadsheet where I want to record the VO2max value (a number indicating the maximum volume of oxygen a person can utilise) of a person.

The VO2max is just a number, normally between 30-60.

I then need excel to look up the VO2max value (i.e. “35”) and give that number a predetermined inputted value name in a different cell (i.e. “low” or “fair”, “good”, “very good” etc etc).

However, as VO2max is also affected by age and *** I also have a column for the participants age and *** and I want excel to use that to make the value name.

E.g. in a 24 year old male a VO2max of 32 is “low”
But, in a 42 year old female a VO2max of 32 would need to be classed “”moderate”

Any ideas how this can be done? can it be done?

I could post the table containing the age range, values and names if I knew how to post an excel sheet on here.

Recognize Conversion (word To Number) And Multiplication Factors?

May 20, 2009

I'm trying to make a table of the total amount of a liquid used throughout the day. Here is what I am trying to do: In cell D4, I want to be able to enter something similar to the following: 3cup+2bottle+1liter

and by doing so, Excel can automatically recognize that 1cup is 8oz, 1bottle is 17oz, and 1liter is 34 oz because of the reference chart provided on the side. Also, it would be able to notice the 3, 2, and 1 amounts so it would multiply accordingly so it would know to do this: (3*8)+(2*17)+(1*34)

and then put the calculated amount in the cell. The correct answer should be 92oz. Is there a way for Excel to recognize the conversions (i.e. whenever it sees 'cup' it will multiply by 8) and multiplication factors (i.e. 3, 2, 1)?Is there a formula I can enter that I can just "drag" down to the upcoming days in column D?

I know I can just do something like this: (3*G4)+(2*G5)+(1*G6).

Ranking Depending On Several Factors?

Dec 7, 2012

I have to make a hierarchy of my employees, taking in consideration the achievemnt of their target. I'll attach a sample to make it simple to understand. The are 2 classes of factors: Class I and Class II.

- In Class I (witch counts 75% in total results) there are:
- New deposit - count 75% from class I
- Insurance - count 10% from class I
- Investments fund - count 15% from class I
- In Class II (witch counts 25% in total results) trere are:
- Loan A - count 15% from class II, but the number have a weight of 40% in results, and volume 60%
- Loan B - count 75% from class II, but the number have a weight of 75%, while volume have 25%
- New clients - count 10% from class II

Now, I have to rank the employees taking in consideration the Deviation for all of the factors above (columns E, H, K, P, Q, V, W, Z).

Converting A Word/Value To A Number

I am creating a review sheet/skill matrix using excel and need to be able to convert a particular selection to a number in the adjacent cell to work out the users efficiency (long story that i wont bore you with)

So basically i have a question/statement in cell A and a drop down answer menu in cell B containing up to 5 possible answers (very poor, poor, ok, good, very good). In cell C i would like to insert a formula that allocates a number dependant on the selection in cell B. So if the user selects very poor in cell B cell C states 1, if cell B has poor selected then cell C states 2 etc etc

Converting Word To Number Value?

I am trying to create a spreadsheet to keep track of an online racing league that I'm in. I have created columns for the racers, and rows for the races. What I would like to do is type in 1st, and it represent the number 13 for when I do an autosum at the bottom of that column. It would be easier for me to type in the position place, instead of the points value. The position place will always carry the name numeric value. Here is what I have so far:

Obtaining Certain Data From A Range Depending On Multiple Factors

Nov 15, 2013

I have a sheet with 5000+ entries, column A is an ID number, column B has one of 4 outcomes C,D and E are just times and quantities and are not important.

In column A there could be multiple entries of the same ID number.

In column B it will show Pcid243A, Pcid243B, Ddar400A or Ddar400B.

I need to export (to another sheet) any entries with the following conditions:

A = ID number with any instance in B showing both a 243 and 400 condition.

E.G

A B C D E
AA565677878D - Pcid243B - C - D - E
AA837632823G - Pcid243B - C - D - E
AA837632823G - Pcid243A - C - D - E
YA74846CC - Ddar400A - C - D - E
WW768765364F - Ddar400A - C - D - E
WW768765364F - Ddar400B - C - D - E
WW768765364F - Pcid243B - C - D - E
AA73262362G - Ddar400B - C - D - E

In the example above, I'd need the red cells exporting to a new sheet as they meet the conditions of having the same ID and both a 243 & 400 outcome:

A B C D E
AA565677878D - Pcid243B - C - D - E
AA837632823G - Pcid243B - C - D - E
AA837632823G - Pcid243A - C - D - E
YA74846CC - Ddar400A - C - D - E
WW768765364F - Ddar400A - C - D - E
WW768765364F - Ddar400B - C - D - E
WW768765364F - Pcid243B - C - D - E
AA73262362G - Ddar400B - C - D - E

Now I've spent ages trying different things and can't get anything to work...

Producing Random Number, Then Another With No Common Factors

Aug 5, 2009

This is kind of an extension to a previously solved post. For a similar problem I used the attatched file (which someone from here so kindly came up with - but to be honest i dont fully understand),

but now im getting onto numbers from 1 to 100 so could get very confusing in the table!

RANDOM TABLE2.xlsx

Basically I want to produced a random number, (which I have managed) then another number, but it cant have any common factors as the first.

So 1st = 10, 2nd = 13 is acceptable
but 1st = 22, 2nd = 12 is not.

I have managed to do it with smaller values by just typing then out, but this is a very long winded technique, but is there a formula that can do this?

Converting Formula Result To A Word

Jan 13, 2014

I have two sheets, the first called 'AF' and the other called 'POR'. For one of the columns in the 'AF' sheet I used the following formula - VLOOKUP(B2,POR!$A$2:$A$111254,1,FALSE) to retrieve a string consisting of 7 numerical digits (Ex. 4678451). Now if I want this result of 7 digits in the same 'AF' sheet to be converted to the word "YES" - how do I achieve this? (All the 7 digits numbers are different or unique). Is there some sort of REPLACE command I use here or some other means?

Converting Column Of Numbers To Corresponding Word

I tried a nested IF statement, but felt this wasn't working properly or was not the proper formula choice.

A Find/Replace would work, but it picks up the single digits elsewhere in the sheet. I realize i could copy/paste my column to a new sheet and from there convert/paste, but I am trying to get better at Excel.

Creating PDF File From Word Document Inside Folder With ID Number And Reference Number?

Jul 31, 2014

I have an excel database where I register cases. I have in it a button that creates a folder with and ID nr that is in column A (I create new ID nr in the next row, when I press the button it will create a folder with that ID nr and inserts a blank word document in it). We have a template that we copy to the folder (depending what type of case). The idea would be that once the template is filled in and ready to print, It would take the values from the ID nr and a reference number a few cells to the right. Is it possible to tell excel to open the word document in the folder and create a PDF version with the ID nr and reference number. (there are only 2 templates, so the macro would have to look for one of the two in the folder) The names of the templates are: "Standard" and "Other". I guess the best way to start maybe this would be that I select the cell with the ID nr and then press a macro button to have this done. One thing that needs to be done, is to put a copy in the same folder and another in a second folder called "Binder" in my documents folder.

I have on the first tab a screen where you can fill in the name of the .doc or .pdf file.

That works fine, but now I would like that when I fill in a number and click on test, it opens te .doc and .pdf file that is attached for that number.

If you take a look at the pdf file you will see a second and a third tab.

First column is the number they need to fill in and the second column is the name of the .doc or .pdf that needs to be opened with that specific number.

How to link it and open both files for that specific number.

But not every number has a .doc as well as a .pdf.

Converting Text To Number

Mar 16, 2009

I am currently trying to find an easy way to convert cell references to number format. The issue I'm having is when compiling a small formula (CONCATENATE) as part of a macro in order to produce a unique reference number to a column of data (1000's of cells long) I come accross the age old number stored as text issue after the macro has converted the formula to values.

Have tried editing the macro to number stored as text = false which removes the annoying little red triangle but the vlookup functions still wont read the values. My current solution is to highlight the entirity of the data and convert to number which takes a long long time as there are multiple lookups assigned to the cells, which for my current project is not acceptable.

Am looking for a quick solution, (with no interaction required) something that would convert the cells to the format required either before the formula is assigned and overwritten by values or just after. Currently I'm stumped.

Converting Number To Time

Dec 10, 2008

I am trying to compile data from several different managers within my company. They all have similar workbooks, and have been entering time in a number format. Currently they have values that look like this:

Excel - Book1___Running: 12.0 : OS = Windows XP (F)ile (E)dit (V)iew (I)nsert (O)ptions (T)ools (D)ata (W)indow (H)elp (A)boutA1=ABCD11.351.18  22.012.23  32.333.05  44.124.22  Sheet1 [HtmlMaker 2.42] To see the formula in the cells just click on the cells hyperlink or click the Name boxPLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THIS TABLE IMAGE ON SAME PAGE! OTHEWISE, ERROR OF JavaScript OCCUR.

However, the data should appear as this:

Excel - Book1___Running: 12.0 : OS = Windows XP (F)ile (E)dit (V)iew (I)nsert (O)ptions (T)ools (D)ata (W)indow (H)elp (A)boutD1=DEFG101:3501:18  202:0102:23  302:3303:05  404:1204:22  Sheet1 [HtmlMaker 2.42] To see the formula in the cells just click on the cells hyperlink or click the Name boxPLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THIS TABLE IMAGE ON SAME PAGE! OTHEWISE, ERROR OF JavaScript OCCUR.

So, in any instance the period or decimal point should be a colon and the format of the cells should be in [m]:ss.

I want to be able to select a range within the workbook and run a macro that will convert the numbers into the "[m]:ss format.

Converting A Number To A Date

Aug 11, 2009

I have a column of numbers that are currently text, but they actually represent a date.

I had a column of dates, but needed to convert them into a "week number", so used this formula: =INT((A2-1)/7)

It produced a week number for each date, and produced results like 5594, 5595, etc.

I now need to "reverse" this, and take these numbers (5594, 5595...) and convert them back to actual dates.
