I have data validation in a cell that says only options from a list are allowed. i.e. =indirect(A1)
If this refers to a list where there is only 1 option available is there a way to display that value automatically without the user having to click the dropdown to select it?
I am using the same VBA that is discussed in several threads on the internet to create a combobox on top of underlying excel validation. The most relevant post I have found on this site is linked below, however I am told that it has expired and I can not reply to it so I started this new thread.
Data Validation Autocomplete Via Combobox Modification
The VBA code discussed in the above linked thread is working pretty well in my excel file which has MANY different fields being validated. However, there is a problem that I can not seem to get past. Specifically, the combobox is currently showing the validated data behind it, but will also allow IN-valid data to be entered. Is there a way to stop this and force only valid data to be used (i.e., is there a way to force a "re-validation" on exit from the combo box)?
I wrote a macro that creates a data validation list from a set of cells on Sheet 1.
On Sheet two I would like a have Macro select each item in order on the validation list and paste into every fourth cell.
For example, if my Data Validation list on Sheet 1 contains three items: Comp. A, COmp. B, Comp. C
On Sheet 2, I would like to see Comp. A in cell K1, Comp. B in cell O1, Comp. C in cell S1.
I have seen a few codes but nothing that works effectively.
I have data validation in cells A1:A50 which allows to select values from a list. There are about 50 items in the list that can be selected. Is it possible to have the user select an item only once i.e., if an attempt is made to select an item thats already selected it show an error message.

I can't figure out why I can't get it to work for the work sheet "This Don't" but it works for the worksheet "This Works" why and how I can change it so both Reason (Column F and H can) select mutliple items on there. I would like to sort out some code so that at certain points in the macro it will select the worksheet that is shown in cell A1 of the LIST sheet and then carry out the code already recorded. THis will allow me to quickly change a sheet name that is refererred to in the macro numerous times without actually manually editing the sheet name in the macro code.

i have a list called "parts". i want this list to be updated everytime a new part # is entered into the list cell. i can get it to work in one cell. i have been able to get it to work in up to 6 rows, however i want it to work in up to 50 rows. here is the vba code i am using

i am using insert>name>define for the list and this is what i used for that
=OFFSET(lists!$A$1,0,0,COUNtA(lists!$A:$A),1)
like i said, it will work for d1-d6, then it stops working.
Let's say you have a list of names:
BT
4 McDonald, Ronald
5 McCheese, Mayor
6 Burglar, Ham
7 King, Fakehead
8 Hut, Pizza
9
and you had "McCheese, Mayor" typed in AK23.
NOW, because you have that name in AK23, you want the next cell (AK31) to automatically select "Burglar, Ham". How?
So forth, and so on, for 2 more names....
When you get to the bottom of the list, and "Hut, Pizza" has been placed, how would you get it to start back at the top?
I have a normal data validation box on excel, but I want to be able to navigate my way through it using a macro. I can select & opent the drop down list with the following
SendKeys "%{DOWN}"
but then an action like
SendKeys "{UP}"
Does not navigate itself up the menu as a normal keystoke would. Any ideas on how to solve this? Basically, I want to select a cell, open the drop down menu, select the first choice in it (so thinking SendKeys "{HOME}{ENTER}" ) all using a macro.
how to make all cells displaying an item from the list source update with new information added to list source.
Example:
Cell "A1" on worksheet 2 displays the 3rd slot of information from list source on worsheet 5. I want cell "A1" on worksheet 2 to update when the list source information in the 3rd slot on worksheet 5 is changed.
Notes:
The list is set up by naming the columns on Worksheet 5 and is set as a validation list on the other worksheets. So on Worksheet 2 column "A" has the validation

I have a validation list drop down box set up to reference data in a defined name list. I would like to be able to select multiple values from this list to appear in one cell (preferably separated by a comma). For example, the defined name list contains the following data:

I have 2 columns First Name & Surname. What I want to do is create a data validation list on the surname which results in the 2nd data validation list only showing the first names which link to one of the surnames.

I'm using a very long validation list for a drop down menu. Is there anyway to setup the drop down so that one could start typing and the list would immediately eliminate to less options?
For example, my list consists of 3000 plant names. Instead of scrolling down to choose a plant that begins with a letter P, is there anyway to start typing "P" in the cell and have the list pop up and jump down to entries that begin with "P"?

E.g. I have data in c10:c50, then select the range c10:c50
Starting to struggle a bit here. Trying to create a user form, with help from this website I was able to create 2 dropdown lists based on data validation and information from another sheet in the same workbook. I have one cell B7 that uses data validation and sheet "Eq List" to create a drop down list of departments that the user can select from. Once B7 is filled in, it creates the 2nd dropdown list in B9 so the user can pick "Equip Desc".
Where I am trying to fill B11 which should automatically give me back the Mach ID that is related to B7 & B9. Am I going about this the right way? I have ttached a sample file to make it easier to understand.
I can't seem to find a way to make a data validation list automatically show the first item in the list rather than showing blank.

Name: Fruit
Refers to:

When I try to use the name Fruit in my data validation, I get the message "The List Source must be a delimited list, or a reference to single row or column." I thought my name "fruit" was a delimited list.

I will be pasting to the same location each month but I will be copying from another range of cells as my targets change every month. This is where my autoupdate idea is coming in. I hoped that for example this month is August so it would automatically paste over Augusts Data and when September came around it would automatically update to the new data set.

And I use data validation list in 5 different cells from Cells C1 to C5 then in every cell the list will show all the fruits,
But I want that if I select Any Fruit in cell C1 that should not be included in the remaining 4 cells, and the fruits selected in Cells C1 and Cell C2 should not be included in the remaining 3 cells and so on....
I Used the formula
=IF(C1=A1,OFFSET(A2,,,COUNTA($A$2:$A$5),1),0)
But this works fine if I select Apple in the Cell C1, then the List of C2 Shows all Fruits other than Apple, But if in Cell C1 I select any fruit other than Apple it does not work... (Using Excel2007 & Win XP)
In the following extract, I would like to have today's date placed into Col K when an entry is made into Col J.
Entry into Col J is from a validation list of 3 options. What I desire is that when one of these options is selected ("Complete"), then I would like today's date to be written into Col K.
Currently Col K has a validation list which comprises dates from 1st of each month from July to June.
I need a fixed date as text preferably, so was thinking the VBA function "Date" on a Change Workbook Sub.
The information is currently part of a Table in Excel 2007 that has about 500 records.

Is there a way to make the cell have to be an entry from the data validation list?
how to play with data ranges and define names for charts to automatically update them by using the formula offset + counta. An example would be: =OFFSET(Sheet1!$B$7,0,0,COUNTA(Sheet1!$B$6:$B$37)-1).
So, the problem comes when there is a need to select a data range which is not that well defined like $B$6:$B$37. So, I need to import data regularly into my workbook, this data will be imported right below of the last cell with values.
Now, how would I manage to automatically select the data range from this new import for my chart? See attached example. I have highlighted in Yellow a potential import... there is no data in there so feel freel to fill it with any numbers you like.
I have tried to use a vlookup to find Country+Programme+Year (cat1 in the example) in the 'counta' part of the formula above. But I get lost,as a vlookup would retrieve a value and would not be useful for the data range?

For example, let's say column A contained hundreds of transactions with either North, South, East and West, how could I create a drop down list in another cell that only had four selection options?
The idea is to create a liquor order sheet which takes items and prices from a liquor inventory workbook, which is part of the same file. i'm sure that you can do it all fancy with a macro, but unfortunately i'm not super experienced with excel. so i helped myself with what i know a bit -> drop down lists. I created an extra sheet which has 4 ranges on there... the liquor type (liquor, beer, wine), and the 3 sub classes for each type (red/white/blush/sparkling for wine, draft/import for beer and so on and so forth). On the inventory i named the range of all white wines "white", of all red wines "red" ..
On my order sheet i created a drop down list for type and created 2 more via "indirect" .. so when you select "wine" in the first one, the 2nd one will ask you for white/red/blush/sparkling and the last drop down then for the exact item according to the range on the inventory.
Hope what i did so far is understandable ^.^
Now my problem is that i want the unit cost to be copied when an item is selected. So you select "beer" in A1, "import" in A2, "corona" in A3... and the price for corona (which is written in a cell on the inventory sheet) should show up in A4.
I attached a screen of the inventory sheet so that you can see how it is structured.
