View 2 RepliesIs there a code or a way to make it impossible to make permanent changes to a file without first saving it as something else? I have a master report that is done monthly.
I do not want anyone to be able to save any changes on the master report. How do I go about disabling save and the save as funtions in excel? I have a save as command button that I only want people to use.
Also is there a way to set up a print command button to print to any computers default printer? I have set up a print command button on my computer and it works fine on mine, but I have sent the file to another person and the button is not doing anything on their computer. I assume because we don't have the same computers.
Suppose I delete a (unknown) number of items from the Worksheet Menu Bar. This can vary because of the fact that my excel sheet is being used by a different number of people, all with a different Worksheet Menu Bar configuration. Is there a way of counting how many Menu items are still left in the Worksheet Menu Bar?
So, suppose all that is left (after using the program) in the Worksheet Menu Bar are Excel, File, Tools, Help. How can the porgram find out that there are only 4 items in the menu?
I need to disable the "save as" file menu command when a user opens a shared document. Upon exit I want to enable the save as so that other opened worksheets are not affected. This code works: CommandBars("File").Controls("Save As...").Enabled = False
My problem is this. I can activate this command by selecting run in the VB editor.
But I need for this action to be automatic when a user opens the worksheet. I did this in the editor:
Under general
Sub dISABLESAVEAS()
CommandBars("File").Controls("Save As...").Enabled = False
End
Sub WORKSHEET_BEFORECLOSE()
CommandBars("File").Controls("Save As...").Enabled = True
End
Question regarding the disabling of right mouse button click options and have used the code below to disable and reciprocal code to enable options. The code works well in Excel 2003 but have recently used the spreadsheet in excel 2000 and the code causes a runtime error 5 'Invalid procedure call or argument'. how to amend the code to have it also work with Excel 2000.
With Application. CommandBars(" Cell")
.Controls("Cut").Visible = False
.Controls("Paste Special...").Visible = False
.Controls("Insert...").Visible = False
.Controls("Delete...").Visible = False
.Controls("Clear Contents").Visible = False
.Controls("Insert Comment").Visible = False
.Controls("Format Cells...").Visible = False
.Controls("Pick from drop-down list...").Visible = False
.Controls("Format Cells...").Visible = False
.Controls("Add Watch").Visible = False
.Controls("Create List...").Visible = False
.Controls("Hyperlink...").Visible = False
.Controls("Look up...").Visible = False
End With
i have 2 macro icons.
i want to disable the icons after its clicked once.
I am creating a fool proof, well as near as I can get it, spreadsheet for them to work in and want them to follow the rules I set out!!
I am able to disable cut, copy, paste etc but was wondering if it was possible for to disable to use of the "Delete" function from the menu when you right click on a cell and also disable to the Delete key on the keyboard?
I want to disable the functions via right mouse click on a sheet tabs to workbook users.
As the programmer I may need to access these function on occasion.
My VBA is password protected to keep other users out.
Is there a way to either hide or disable the worksheet menu bar on ONE SHEET ONLY, so that a right-click customize doesn't even work on that sheet. I want the user to be able to do nothing but what my customized toolbar allows on that sheet.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to disable or grey out the windows options in the Tools>options tab?
I would like my custom menus to act like builtin menus - specifically I would like them to be disabled (grayed out or even entirely removed) when the application is in Cell Edit Mode (I cant believe I am the first to ask about this but I cant find the answer elsewhere).
It sure seems confusing to offer users access to a seemingly active command when it does not run (in edit mode I mean).
I send huge lumps of Karma to any willing to share ideas or solutions.
i'm trying to build a GUI-only application using Excel Userforms, with File and Help menus on the form. i'm coming from Java where i know getting a menu on a GUI is possible, but i haven't seen any resources for it in VBA Excel Userforms. is it possible to place menu items in a userform?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor an excel application I need the disable most of the ribbon content i.e. disable insert, formulas tab etc.
The only thing that should function is a hand build menu add-in, which is created with custum UI editor.
I searched via google, this forum and many other places, but i didnt find a clear answer yet.
Came across an example in a VBA book, wrt adding custom menu items. This example included code for deleting the menu item before closing the workbook.
Is there a reason you'd want to do this? The example already had provisions to delete the menu item if it already existed before the code ran, so you wouldn;t end up with multiple items...
One can create additional menu items for the right click, and these will show up always at the bottom. Is it possible to force them to appear at the top of the menu list above cut? This is specific to Macro created items.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have created a menu called "Temp" and a sub menu called "Temp1". When the user click on Temp1, I need to dynamically add some menu items under Temp1. Is this possible in Excel?
I need to do this on the right click menu. for example, along with "Cut", paste" etc menu's I need to add a Menu Item, Temp and under this menu, I need to add a SubMenu, Temp1. When the user click on the Temp1, I need to populate the child items.
I have created an Addin from one I found on this site which creates a menu on the CommandBar. On this menu I can add my Macros. The Menu is initially supposed to perform a delete function then an add, just in case the menu already exists on the CommandBar. It is also supposed to Uninstall the menu when you de-select the Addin. At the moment it doesn't seem to be doing either, as I have now got 5 CommandBar menu's all the same and I can't delete them?
This also creates a problem of when I add another macro, the menu on the CommandBar doesn't update with the addition?
I have attached the .xla file for you to look at and see where I'm going wrong.
VBA Macros & Creating An Add-in For Them
How do I disable a custom menu item when a user is entering data in a cell?
For example... when the formula bar in Excel has focus, and a user tries to select Data > Sort, the Sort item is disabled. But when the focus is back to the worksheet, Data > Sort is enabled.
I need to do the same thing for my custom menu items.
I've got several add-ins that I'd like the end user to install and have accessible under one menu item ("Assessments") in Excel 2003. So far, the code below successfully adds the item, but it only shows the item of one add-in. How can I get it to show all the items under the "Assessments" category?
Private Sub Workbook_Activate()
Run "AddMenus"
End Sub
Private Sub Workbook_Deactivate()
Run "DeleteMenu"
End Sub
Sub AddMenus()
Dim cMenu1 As CommandBarControl
Dim cbMainMenuBar As CommandBar
Dim iHelpMenu As Integer
Dim cbcCutomMenu As CommandBarControl
I cannot figure out why this setting has changed. When I right click my tab worksheet in Excel to copy or rename, it does not allow me. I will need your advice to re-activate that options so it is visible and not gray. I tried in the VBA workbook properties settings with no luck and also Tools, Options.

I have created several spreadsheet with customized menus. In step 5 when I type
a period the options for selecting Caption does not appear. In step 6 the 'Control' word didn't appear in list. Sometimes the options in step 6 do appear BUT not the option for Controls. I have created spreadsheets with menus that work but the only way I could do it was to cut and paste from the website and then modify it.
I have an Excel 2003 program that contains macros. One of the macros hides certain command bars and disables the worksheet menu bar. On close the opposite is true. The problem is, if a user uses the disable macros when opening then the worksheet menu bar and other command bars are still available. I would like to hide all of the data sheets and display another sheet that would normally be hidden displaying a message that the macros have to be enabled for the program to work correctly if disable macros is chosen. When the enable macros are used I would like the Error page to be hidden.
View 6 Replies View Related Currently I am working on a workbook where I am using a Save As VBA to create a folder and rename the file. The following code seems to be working fine so far with Excel 2007. Is there a way to confirm that it will work with all other versions of Excel and that my DesktopFolderPath String will work on all users machines?
In addition to these concerns, I am trying to avoid any Runtime Errors and currently, the Compatability Alert is the only thing I can see that is creating one. When it displays, in the event the user is unsure what to do, as most of our field staff is, and they select "Cancel" it displays the error Run Time Error.jpg. Can the Compatibility Alert be disabled? If so where do i add it in my code.
I am using Excel 2007 on Windows Vista Business 32 bit. I have several workbooks. Each one contains 33 worksheets. 31 of the worksheets are for each day of the month, the other two are for yearly totals and revision history. Recently, a menu bar has appeared at the bottom of my worksheet. At the left is an icon that states that no macros are being recorded, click here to start recording. The center of the bar is blank, but placing the mouse over the bar brings up a customization menu.
At the right side of the bar are three icons dealing with page layout. As I scroll down the worksheet entering data for the day, the cursor goes below the bar and the screen does not move up as it used to do. Also, by using the arrows keys to scroll down, I do not see the bar containing the worksheet names. Luckily, I have a macro that allows me to save the current days worksheet and move to the next one, otherwise I would not be able to do that. When I open a previous month, the bar is there also, so it must be a flag that I can't find or don't know about. Is there a way to get things back to normal?
I have collected some data from survey respondents, and I have the following array formula:
=MIN(
IF($C$1:$C$400="happy",
IF($G$1:$G$400="tall",
IF($H$1:$H$400="american",
$F$1:$F$400
))))
What I'd like to do is make the 3rd criterion -- $H$1:$H$400="american" -- dependent on whether the string value in cell A1 ("Evaluate Americans only?") is "yes" or "no".
Because, my actual situation is considerably more complex (see below), I'm looking to insert a test within the MIN array formula to check the value of A1, and calculate the answer accordingly.
I'm aware that I could theoretically create two array arguments (one with & one without the American test), and place them inside an IF function that tests the value of A1. However that isn't practical for my real-world situation...
I occasionally see array formulas with all sorts of symbols that I don't really understand in the array context (such as * and | and . ), and I'm wondering if one of those magic symbols might be the doorway to my solution.
I am looking for a way of allowing users to edit the existing cells at their will, but simultaneously disabling the option to insert/ delete columns or rows.
By enabling Sheet Protection, I cannot find a way to do it. Can I?
I am on MS Excel 2007 by the way.
I found the way, just unlock all cells in Format Cells, Protection Tab. Then Protect sheet and de-select what you want to disable.
I am using the following code to add an item to the right click " cell" shortcut menu.
I placed it in a Worksheet_Activate module in ThisWorkbook. I'm pretty sure the code is correct but it seems something is preventing the code from executing properly because no item is added to the menu. Is there some setting in a workbook that might prevent changes to the right click menu from being made? How can I get this code to execute properly?
'Set NewItem = CommandBars("Cell").Controls.Add
'With NewItem

' .OnAction = "MACRO1"

The code below scans from the column on the row of the worksheet till it finds a blank, this seems to work ok as I previously had a msgbox in that displayed the value of n once the loop finished
So I was hoping that the values in the columns on that row would be added to the combobox but for some reason I get a typing missmatch error.
Code:
Dim n As Integer
n = 1
Do While LValue6 "" 'find out how many alternatives there are
LValue6 = FoundISBN.Offset(0, 32 + n).Value
n = n + 1
DataInput.ComboBox1(n) = LValue6 - I was hoping that the value in the cell was added to the combobox

I have a worksheet with an inventory of items in cells in column A. I need to count the number of items listed in the cells in column B. I have data in about 1500 rows. The items in the list in each cell are separated with a space. Please see small sample below. I would normally do Text-To-Columns, but some of the cells contain up to 30 items.
