When inserting a hyperlink in an Excel cell, the default pathname for the new link is always the current pathname of the workbook. After navigating to a distant pathname and inserting a hyperlink, inserting the next hyperlink in the next cell starts all over again at the current path.
Is there a method of telling Excel to start looking in z:\ABC instead of the current path? This would eliminate navigating through the entire path for each link.
A macro that handles the hyperlink and puts up a navigation window or something like that would be ok.

I'm trying to add code that create a hyperlink to a file in a recently created folder in the path of L:Elec Dept ProjectsRELEASED FOR CONSTRUCTION". The code below should find the newly created *BOM*.xls created and created a hyperlink in the next available row starting on row 27 and column O on my worksheet "BOM". The code currently runs with no errors, but I'm not seeing any resulting text with path / links created.

I read about Hyperlinks in the August 2006 "OZGRID" Newsletters but found no answer.
Assume 2 workbooks - book1 and book2, both located in "c:" (root of drive C)
Now, In book1 I have declared an HL to book2 using CTRL+K and upon clicking in that cell the book2 is opened.
After MOVING(!) book1 to a new location (D:DATA) and clicking the HL - I get an Error "cannot open the specified file".
While book1 was still in root C: - I tried to force to c:ook2.xls by typing it in the HL address window but after saving, Excel deletes the "c:" and leaves "book2.xls" only – I think because both files were located I the same directory.
I am aware that my "problem" can be solved by using the function HYPERLINK – but I would like to learn (if possible) how to insert an HL using CTRL+K that will maintain the path although moving the file which contains the HL).

I want to display the path result from a Floyd Algorithm matrix output..
You can download the excel file here : http://ifile.it/lw4tgic
It consists of 1044 nodes, and we need to find the path between 2 nodes for ALL pairs..
Now, to find the path between 2 nodes, we need to :
1. Find the resulting cell of corresponding 2 nodes (y to x = z)
2. Update the path with that value (y z x)
3. For all the direct pairs in the current path (yz, zx), find the resulting cell
4. If destination (x) not the same with result (z) then repeat step 1 for that pairs.
5. repeat until x = z for all pairs.
Maybe it's better if i use an example....
we'll use T01 to E78 as an example
T01-E78 = if you look in the table,
y (vertical) = T01,
x (horizontal) = E78
z (result) = E77, so
T01-E78 = E77, so path = T01-E77-E78
check if result of T01-E77 = E77 (x = z?)...........................

I have a list of 5,000 urls and I'd like to see what the actual url that is returned for each of them. For example, if I run the url www.example.com/runningshoes, that url may redirect to www.example.com/shoes. I'd like to see what each url returns. Is there a formula/macro that I can use to see this? I'm not very experienced in using macros, but I'm willing to give it a shot if it'll work.

I have a workbook that has a main sheet which provides stats from other sheets within the workbook. I have a hyperlink which goes to a certain place of sheet 2 and the displayed text shows the contents of a cell on sheet 2.
I know it's possible to have the hyperlink go to a certain cell on another workbook as opposed to worksheet, but I cant display the contents of a cell on another workbook as the text on the hyperlink.

I'm working with text boxes in Excel that have hyperlinks attached to defined names on a worksheet. Basically just to navigate around a large sheet.
They work fine, but when the mouse is hovered over the text box it automatically displays the address of the defined name, which looks messy and I want to get rid of it.
I have tried inserting a single space in the screen tip box, but that displays a small rectangular box. I have also tried "" hoping nullstring maybe interpreted as not to display, but it instead displays the speech marks.
Has anybody done this before? I've seen it done, but I have no idea how the model creator did it.

I have a Pivot Table set up that is summarizing some work responsibilities, and within the data table that the Pivot is referencing, there is a field for a Hyperlink that will take the user to the location on the network where the work has been saved. I am not sure if it is possible, but I want to have that Hyperlink work in the Pivot Table as well, and not just display the text for the link.

I am automatically generating a hyperlink to another document. The link that generates is: (I don't know if this qualifies as code, but I'll tag it anyhow...)
06-09-05 0000020 Name/06-09-05 0000020 Name.xls# 'Notes'A5
with 06-09-05 0000020 Name as a directory off the current App.path, and 06-09-05 0000020 Name.xls being the name of the file in the directory. It does have a sheet called "Notes". The thing of it is, the hyperlink takes me to the right place, it just gives me an error message every time saying "Reference not valid". How can it be taking me to the right place, and still giving me the error?

I am using an XY scatter chart that displays the planned path and an actual path as I go. The planned path is set up in 100' increments and goes 12000' and actual path varies along the way.
My data that I use is the Northing (ft), Easting (ft) and Vertical Section (ft) for both the planned path and actual path.
I was wondering if there was an east way to get that information from the chart or if there is a formula that would allow me to calculate distance between the two points by using the data I use for my chart.

I am having a slight problem copying hyperlinks. I have written some code that sorts data by date and then creates a simple diary. It originally placed the name of the event in the new diary sheet. What I would like to do is instead of copying the name into this new sheet copy a hyperlink that I have created to the company's website for that event.
I can create the hyperlink using hyperlink(B1,A1) where A1 is the company name and B1 is the web address but since the new sheet will not have the underlying data I need to actually copy the values and format of the hyperlink rather than the formula.

I have a variable ("DestFile") that defines a path to a file (used in saving the file)...
I'm in the process of getting a Sub to hyperlink to this file, but in some circumstances, I may only want to hyperlink to the folder, not the actual file...
How would I go about trimming the "DestFile" address to get a "DestFldr" address?...
An example of "DestFile" might be;
S:BryanFor KenGulf ConstructionST0609014-t.xls
(the file name length may vary)
What code can I use to consistently trim it back to;
S:BryanFor KenGulf Construction
as the "DestFldr" variable?

I am searching column B for anything containing "Tease", then if found, look to see if column J contains a "W".
Excel doesn't report an error, but this doesn't work:

I am having problems with the following formular in that it does not return what I am expecting.
I have 2 columns of data that hold Y/N values and I would like either "Yes" or "No" to be displayed in Col C for the 4 possible combinations that the interaction of Y and N in columns A&B give.
The data is
Col A:A = Y or N
Col B:B =Y or N
The four possible combinations and outcomes are:
Col A = Y & Col B = Y outcome in Col C = "Yes"
Col A = N & Col B = Y outcome in Col C = "Yes"
Col A = N & Col B = N outcome in Col C = "No"
Col A = Y & Col B = N outcome in Col C = "No"
The formular I have tried is:
=IF(OR(AND(A1="Y",B1="Y"),A1="N",B1="Y"),"Yes","No")
However while three of the outcomes for the combinations are correct (N/Y, Y/N, Y/Y), the output for the N/N combination is incorrect and returns "Yes" instead of "No".
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what is wrong with this?

I've created a spreadsheet to 'translate' number/letter combinations (sub-levels in the UK education system) into a numerical value. I looked up how to do this on google and, through a bit of trial and error, worked out that the lookuptable has to be in alphabetical order, etc.
My problem is when I enter in any of the 'P' values (see attached), it returns 0.5.

I have two pieces of code in module 1 and module 2 respectively:
This code is meant to find the first row number that has a string value of "" in column A:
HTML Code:
Sub Macro1()
Dim cell As Range
Dim r As Double
Dim p As String
For Each cell In Worksheets("stock in").Range("stockcode")
p = cell.Value
r = cell.Row
If p = "" Then Exit For Else
Next cell
End Sub
BTW column A will contain formulas that evaluate to "" so I assume cell.value will = "" even if it contains a formula?
In the second module a sort is executed on the range based on the number of rows:
HTML Code:
Sub Macro2()
'
' Macro2 Macro
'
Call Macro1
ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Stock in").Sort.SortFields.Clear
ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Stock in").Sort.SortFields.Add Key:=Range("A4:A" & r) _
, SortOn:=xlSortOnValues, Order:=xlAscending, DataOption:=xlSortNormal
[Code] .......
My code is falling down because I think my variables arent scoped right or my code is in the wrong place. Also macro1 will eventually be executed from a button on a different sheet (I dont know if this will matter).
The whole point of this code is to get around the fact that if you perform A - Z sorts on cells that contain formulas those that evaluate to "" will be at the top leaving lots of blank rows before actual visible data.

I have a line of code that compares cell values with a variable.
Code:
dim rmycell as range
If rmycell.value = MyTarget then
This works fine when rmycell.value is empty or has a value. However, sometimes rmycell has a #VALUE! Error. When debugging the code I can see this error showing rymcell with a value of "Error 2015". The MyTarget variable is "abcdefg", so the If statement should resolve as
Code:
If rmycell.value = MyTarget then
becomes
Code:
If Error 2015 = "Abcdefg" then
Which should be a negative result. Except it isn't. The code that is conditional on a positive result runs whenever there is a #VALUE error, just as if the 2 values were equal.
