Dynamic Hyperlink In Autoshape Based On Cell Value?

Jun 7, 2014

I have created an employee schedule with 26 pay periods. Each pay period has its' own worksheet for scheduling employees.

To navigate to the worksheets I created a home page on one of the worksheets and would like to create an AutoShape for navigating with a hyperlink based on the pay period which is selected in cell B3. When the autoshape is clicked the user would go to the correct pay period worksheet.

For example Home Page:

Cell B3 contains drop down list of the 26 pay periods which the user selects the proper pay period (ie. 8Jun14-21Jun14)
Cell E3 is a cell reference on the sheet A1
Cell B6 contains hyperlink formula =HYPERLINK("#"&"'" & B3 & "'!" & E3)
Autoshape has formula =B6

When I click on the autoshape the hyperlink does not work.

Change Colour Of Autoshape Based On Cell Value

Mar 21, 2012

I've seen examples of VBA that will colour autoshapes based on cell values. I have a map of the UK made up of autoshapes that have been edited to create a shape of each postcode area such as EX, GL, NR etc. Also I have a list of all these postcode areas and I have given them a zone number (1-7) depending where in the UK they are.

PcodeZoneDH3DL3DN2DT1DY2E4EC4EH5

At the moment I have set the colours using the fill option so anything that is a particular zone is a certain colour (i.e. zone 2 is green).

What I would like to do is to set a zone to a colour, so the map will update all the zones with the right colours.

I need to be able to read the zone number that is assigned to a postcode area and change the relevant autoshape to the correct colour so that any postcode area can be one of 7 colours.

I can't attach a spreadsheet with my map and postcodes otherwise I would have.

Is there an easy way i can read the zone number of each postcode area in the list and update that autoshapes colour? Would the autshape need to have a name so it know which one to update or is this not possible?

Dynamic Hyperlink In Same Cell As The Data?

Nov 5, 2011

I took a look around and noticed I can use the HYPERLINK command to link to a URL plus the contents of a different cell, such as something like =HYPERLINK(URL).

My question is, can I do a dynamic hyperlink that is smart enough to append whatever data is in the same cell to be the final part of the URL? Or do I HAVE to have another column where the hyperlink command is pointing to the first column as the variable?

For example I have a single column with either nothing in it or a 4 digit number. The 4 digit number is also the end of the URL I want it to link to. For example if the column says 1234, I would want it to go to [URL] .........

Dynamic Hyperlink Address From Cell Value

Feb 24, 2007

I am hitting a brick wall on this one. I am trying to assign hyperlinks to objects based on the cell value. Here is my code that colors the objects that have the same names as in Column AO. I am trying to also add a hyperlink to those same objects with the cell value in the list. The problem is while a hyperlink is added, I can not get the value of the cell to show up in the hyperlink address.

Sub TurnColOn()
Dim i As Integer

On Error Resume Next

LastRowa = Range("AO65536").End(xlUp).Row

For i = 2 To LastRowa
Labl1 = Range("AO" & i).Value
ActiveSheet.Shapes(Labl1).Select
ActiveSheet.Hyperlinks.Add Anchor:=Selection.ShapeRange.Item(1), Address:=Labl1
Selection.ShapeRange.Fill.ForeColor.SchemeColor = 10
Selection.ShapeRange.Fill.Visible = msoTrue
Selection.ShapeRange.Fill.Solid
Next i

End Sub

Change Color Of Autoshape Based On Comparision Of Cells

Mar 7, 2008

I am atempting to do some autoshape conditional formating. I am about above average when it comes to working with Excel, and I know little to some Visual Basic. Here are the two things I am attempting to accomplish.

1. I am attempting to use VBA to change the color of a Large Pyramid Autoshape called "JanPyramid". The thought behind this is, I wish to have the Pyramid show vbGreen when it is <= my target (which in this case is a user inputed cell called "RECTARGET", so instead of using a number in my VB code I would like to have it refer to this cell in E58) I want the Pyramid to show vbRed when the total Recordables (this number is generated by using a COUNTIF function, so it counts all entrys in the table that have REC entered for its status, in this case the cell is called "RECCOUNT" and is located in I54) is > my target, E58 "RECTARGET"

2. I have already sort of gotten this to work by using values instead of using cells. But it is still is not perfect. I would prefer to use the actual cells because my targets and the actual counts can be different depending on what happens during that month. Here is the code I have in so far, it is with the values instead of it being the cells because I do not know how to make it read the cells instead of values:

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("RECCOUNT")) Is Nothing Then
If IsNumeric(Target.Value) Then
If Target.Value > 0 And Target.Value <= 2 Then
ActiveSheet.Shapes("JanPyramid").Fill.BackColor.RGB = vbGreen
ElseIf Target.Value > 2 Then
ActiveSheet.Shapes("JanPyramid").Fill.ForeColor.RGB = vbRed
End If
End If
End If
End Sub

This code is a hybrid from this Ozgrid thread: Changing fill color of autoshapes based on cell numeric values.

Aligning Autoshape In The Center Of Cell

Jul 2, 2013

Any way to vertically and horizontally center an autoshape in a cell without VBA. I created a shape and placed it in a cell but don't think it is centered. Also, if I add shapes to adjacent cells, I would want them all to be centered directly in the middle of the cells they are in. Using the align feature only seems to make sure the shapes are aligned to each other but doesn't seem to put them in the center of their respective cells.

Hyperlink To File Based On Cell Value?

Sep 29, 2012

Basically I have a folder with file names in the format:
"XXXXX characterstring"
where X is a digit

E.g.:
45627 -jdsuuuds.pdf
93823 Coates.pdf
98221 dagggiisa d sass.pdf

And I have an excel sheet with a list of the numbers at the start of these file names, eg:
45627
93823
98221

So what I want to do is have each cell link to the file with the corresponding number. So I click "45627" and it links to "C:path45627 -jdsuuuds.pdf"

I could do it if the file names matched exactly to the cell value, but when they don't.

It's super easy when the file name matches exactly:

VB: ActiveCell.Hyperlinks.Add ActiveCell, "C:path" & ActiveCell & ".pdf"

VB:
Sub makelinks() ChDrive "c"
ChDir "c:pathl"

For Each ce In Selection
filee = Dir(ce.Value & "*.pdf")

Dynamic Hyperlink Next / Previous Button?

Feb 18, 2012

Im creating a template for a number of sheets and I want the hyperlink for my previous/next buttons (to move forward and back through sheets) to change based on cell values.

All my sheets are named as numbers ie '1','2','3' and so on

The name (and therefore number) of the sheet is held in cell E22 on each sheet.

The 'previous' button needs to therefore hyperlink to cell A1 on sheet (E22-1) and the 'Next' button to cell A1 on sheet (E22+1)

The 'buttons' I have though are arrows from Excels shapes and I dont know how to add code to them though to start the hyperlink.

Also if i wanted to reference sheet E22-1 etc in a HYPERLINK() function what is the syntax?

Text To Show In Cell Based Upon Hyperlink VBA Code

If Application.Dialogs(xlDialogInsertHyperlink).Show Then
Target.Cut Target.Offset(, 1)
End If
End If

So if the cell AA8 is click it allows the user to insert a hyperlink and the hyperlink is pasted in to the cell AB8.

What I need: Is for the cell AA8 to say "Click to Add Hyperlink" and then once a hyperlink is added AB8 to say in the cell "Hyperlink to Folder".

Autoupdate Cell Comment Based On Cell Input / Dynamic Cell Comments?

Aug 16, 2013

I'm wondering if it is at all possible to have a cell comment automatically update depending on what data is input in the cell (via user input, VLOOKUP, etc.)?

For example, if cell A1 contains the text "CHARLES" with a comment saying "Employee of the Month", and is then subsequently updated with the new text "JOHN" (again, via direct input, a VLOOKUP, data validation, etc.) is there a way to have the comment automatically update to say something else, such as "Team Lead" for example?

I've considered using VBA to accomplish my goal, but am unsure how to compose an effective code to do so. I've also considered perhaps creating a named table filled with all the different comment possibilities I would like to have used in this cell and then inputting a formula in either cell A1, or the comment contained therein, that would then call the corresponding text from that table based on the data in cell A1. Honestly, I'm not sure that what I'm trying to do is even possible;

How To Make Dynamic Drop Down Based On Static Cell

Sep 25, 2013

I am trying to send my field reps a spreadsheet that will allow them to pick the proper location for each building. The problem I am having is that there are ~45,000 buildings, each with anywhere from 1 - 92 locations. Here is how my spreadsheet is set up.

Sheet 1
Column A has the Buildings THIS IS NOT A DROP DOWN. THIS IS A STATIC CELL PRE FILLED OUT
Column B is where I want the drop down to be available for the rep to pick the location

Sheet 2
Column A has a list of the buildings
Column B has a list of the locations

I understand that normally I would need to create a named range for each building and its locations. However, there are more Buildings than columns in Excel. Move Files To Dynamic Folders Based On Cell Value

May 13, 2007

I am not so sure this can be done through a macro, but here is what I want.

I have a folder with say around 1000 excel workbooks. I need a macro to

1. Open each file in the directory specified
2. Read the contents of a particular cell, for ex, A1
3. Create a folder in the same directory with the value of A1
4. And, move the excel workbook itself to that folder.

5. Then it opens the next file
6. If the value of A1 is the same as that in the first workbook, it simply moves it to the already created folder, else it creates another folder with the new value of A1 and moves it there.

Hope I am not too confusing. Searching the forums does not give me an exact picture of how it can be done.

Note: I would also like an option where when I execute the macro, it should pop up with an option to select the folder in which the files are, since the files are not always saved in a static file path.
