Dynamic Print Range - Offset Function

Jul 19, 2014

I have a worksheet where the number of rows will change on a weekly basis and I would like to print the sheet out without having to change the print range every week.

I have tried to use the OFFSET function in the print range in print setup but once this has been entered and printed, it changes to the actual print range the OFFSET returns.

Dynamic Range - OFFSET Function??

Jun 24, 2006

I want to use a dynamic range in order to use this formula below in column A as long as there is something entered in column H = SUMIF($N:$N,A5,$I:$I). any ideas on syntax and will this be using the offset function within excel. I know I have posted a couple times about getting this formula to replicate itself down certain columns as long as someone enters text in another. I looked into the offset reply information somone posted but it seemed a little over my head.

Excel 2010 :: Dynamic Range - Cell References Changing In OFFSET Function

Apr 12, 2012

I'm working in Excel 2010. I'm trying to create a dynamic range, using the OFFSET function. I've got it working beautifully but as soon as I save it and close the Name Manager the range stops working. When I go back into Name Manager I find all the cell references have changed (from C1:C600 to C1048572:C595 - or some other strange range).

P.S. What it's doing isn't so important as when the cell references are right it works. But just for full info: It's an OFFSET function, starting at A1. It will look at a list of companies and use a Match function to find out how many rows to offset (based on where the first instance of a particular company. And it uses the COUNTIF to make the range the same number of rows as there are entries for that company.

Here is my broken function:

=OFFSET('Map Point'!A1048572,MATCH("Company Name",'Sheet Name'!C1048572:C595)-COUNTIF('Sheet Name'!C1048572:C595,"Company Name"),0,COUNTIF('Sheet Name'!C1048572:C595,"Company Name"))

Offset Dynamic Named Range

Jul 23, 2014

I know how to create a dynamic named range so that no blanks appear in my data validation list but have only ever done this for a list in a column, i.e...

-----A-----
1--Apple
2--Orange
3--Pear
4--Bannana
5--
6--

A1:A6 would be named Fruit, then name manager, edit: =OFFSET($A$1,0,0,COUNT($A1:$A6),1)

The Data Validation list then shows Apple, Orange, Pear, Bannana. And if I add Peach into A5 later, that then appears in the list.

What I need though is to edit this as if the named range 'Fruit' covers cells A1:F1.

------A---------B-------C--------D-----------E-----------F
1--Apple---Orange---Pear---Bannana---
2--

Dynamic Range Using Offset And CountIF

Dec 3, 2008

I have a data set that alters each week which means at the moment I have to update the ranges manually each time. I would like to use a dynamic range and think I need to use the Offset and CountIf functions. Both the start and end of the ranges are dynamic. The range is based on grouping the numbers in Column E (LocNo)

What I would like to do or think the way to achieve this is by:

First looking at Column E

Count how many cells are equal to criteria. (CountIf)

offset 5 columns left from the first cell that meets the criteria (Offset -5)

offset X rows down based on how many cells meet the criteria (Offset X)

I've include a spreadsheet spread sheet which 'should' help illustrate the problem showing the ranges I would like and how the data changes each week.

Dynamic Named Range Without Offset()

Oct 15, 2009

When I make a dynamic named range, I typically do something like:

=offset($A$1,,,counta(A:A),counta(1:1))

I remember awhile ago I saw (within some of the comments on Jon Peltier's site, I believe) a way to make a dynamic named range without using offset. Does anyone know how to do it?

Dynamic Range Using Offset And Match Functions?

Aug 26, 2012

I have three columns of data in columns A,B,C - there are formulas in these columns that either produce a numeric value or return blank.

I have created Dynamic Named Ranges for each of them and have entered the following formula:
=OFFSET(Working!$A$1,1,0,MATCH(1E+305,Working!$A:$A,1))

My issue is that this formula is looking one row past the last numeric entry in the column (a blank) which is leaving a blank space when I graph this data.

Can anyone tell me what the formula would be inside the Conditional Formatting dialog box to get the OFFSET range to have a certain format?

Automate A Dynamic Print Range

Jan 27, 2010

This one seems tricky to me. I have a spreadsheet which is being used to collect data. Depending on what is selected in my drop-down menus in row 8 (columns B-N) my print range needs to change. The goal is to create a button that allows the end user to select the range without having to find the end of the spreadsheet.

- I have attached a grid named “RANGE.xls” that shows the logic I’m looking to automate.

- I have also attached the data collections spreadsheet (FY10 Data Collection Tool_V0.6.xls)

The end users of this spreadsheet are very Excel naive and I’m trying to make this semi-idiot proof.

Set Print Area Of Dynamic Range

Dec 17, 2006

I have a sheet with a top portion like a fax cover letter.
Starting at row 17 I merged from B thru L.
This is where the user will type in a message.
The message can extend several pages long, so I merged about 100 rows same as 17.
My sheet only will extend to column N.
There may be instances where the user may leave several rows blank in between what they type.

I am looking for a way to set the print area from A1 to the last row of data and not the last row with formatting.

I have a command button the user is supposed to click when they want to print the sheet.
This is acceptable, but if there was a way around that it would be better.

Note:
I do have code in the sheet that will automatically adjust the row height in the merged cells if the data gets too wide. I do not want to upset that.

I have just recently started to learn VBA, so my knowledge of the various commands and syntax is limited.

This is what I have right now that doesn't work.

Private Sub CommandButton2_Click()
Dim LastCell, DataCells As Range
Dim LastDataRow As Integer
Set LastCell = ActiveSheet.Cells.SpecialCells(xlLastCell)
Set DataCells = ActiveSheet.Cells.SpecialCells(xlconstants)
LastDataRow = DataCells.Cells(DataCells.Cells.Count).Row
ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintArea = Range(ActiveSheet.Cells(1, 1), ActiveSheet.Cells(LastDataRow, LastCell.Column)).Address
ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOut Copies:=1, Collate:=True

Tweaking Dynamic Print Range Across 7 Sheets

Oct 26, 2008

In a school gradebook, there are 7 sheets for grading. In each sheet, student names and other info are in cols B through E, and headings are on rows 11 & 12. Grades are in cols Z11:AB..., AC11:AE..., and AO11:AQ..., where ... would be the last row of grades associated with a student.

My obstacle is that the grading cols contain formulas down to row 80, so Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlDown)).Select goes down to row 80 instead of stopping on the row of the last student's name on that sheet.

Another obstacle is that student records are on every other row (odd rows) starting on row 13. Their grades are in the same row.

Offset Function Not Capturing Entire Range

Here is my formula:

OFFSET(SiteTrac!$FA$1,0,0,COUNTA(SiteTrac!$FA:$FA),1)
OR
OFFSET(SiteTrac!$FA$1,0,0,COUNTA(SiteTrac!$FA:$FA)-1,1)
OR
OFFSET(SiteTrac!$FA$1,0,0,COUNTA(SiteTrac!$FA:$FA)-1)
OR
OFFSET(SiteTrac!$FA$1,0,0,COUNTA(SiteTrac!$FA:$FA))

I have tried all four but every time it continues to stop on row 409. I have tried to name different columns and they all stop short too.

Using OFFSET Function To Return The Value From Another Cell With Row And Column Offset

May 31, 2014

I am having some difficulties using a combination of IF and the OFFSET function to display a range of cell values from another column based on a simple condition. The values I need to display at the destination cells should be offset by 8 columns to the right and "X" rows down from the reference column. The value "X" is to be determined via the IF function to check for the row index number.

For example, if Index value "X" = 8, then display the value of B2 in cell I9. IF X = "9", display B2 in cell I10 etc.

I have attached a sample worksheet that provides some examples.

I have created a Macro in VBA which takes a data set, puts in in a pivot table which I then use to sort/select etc. after that I copy the data in a new sheet as ' values only' with paste special.

As the source date is variable (number of lines can vary) I have set the macro to take the variable number of rows into account.

Evertyhing works as it should.

Now my question:

in the final sheet, I want to fill the first empty column at the end of all filled-in columns with a count function. selecting the last column works, but I have problems with making the COUNT function variable. It should count the number of cells with a value in it. However as the number of columns can vary, the count function should take that into account. Furthermore, it should never take the first and last column into account.
Here's where I got stuck: ...

Function Is Not Valid On Dynamic Named Range Chart

Apr 20, 2007

I have seen one of your posts in which you make a graph update based on dynamic named ranges. Here is my problem, I already defined the name of my ranges as:

ChurnDiario =OFFSET(Clientes!$E$25,0,0,1, COUNTA(Clientes!$E$25:$AH$25))
Ejex =OFFSET(Clientes!$E$8,0,0,1,COUNTA(Clientes!$E$8:$AH$8))

The issue is that when I tried to enter the values and category (x) axis with:

Values: =offset(ChurnDiario,0,0)
Category (X) axis labels: = offset(Ejex,0,0)

On both, excel replies “That function is not valid”. I’ve tried, but still can’t make it work.

Using OFFSET With Dynamic Data

Mar 26, 2014

I have a spreadsheet which is generated by someone else. I am not allowed to edit or sort this data It is in the format:

Column A Names (Example Simon is in cell A11)
Column B emails (1 row down so a number would be in cell B12)
Column C Phone calls etc. (cell C12)

The data is generated automatically so one day Simon could be at the top and the next day Daniel etc.

I need to copy each set of data so I can produce a graph on a team report.

I would normally use OFFSET but as the NAME column could be in any order, the results appear for a different NAME

The data I need is always OFFSET by the same number of columns and rows so the data for Simon would be OFFSET by 1 row and 1 and 2 columns. The data always occupies the same cells in the sheet namely A11:F46.

Offset Formula - Creating Dynamic Line Chart

May 28, 2014

I am trying to create a dynamic Excel line chart.

All is well, except for my x-axis (which is a text axis). It currently looks like this: Dynamic axis.jpg

I am using the Offset formula. The formula for my x-axis is =OFFSET(Worksheet1!$D$4,0,-3,COUNT(Worksheet1!$D$4:$D$36)). This is to show the axis if cells in Column D are filled up appropriately.

However, in the cells containing the axis name itself, this formula is used =IF(D9=0,NA(),'Worksheet2'!A6). I've tried removing the formula from these cell, but that didn't solve the problem.

Excel 2010 :: Dynamic Graph Creation Using The Series And Offset Functions?

Jan 7, 2014

I am in the process of setting up some graphs. The graphs will show the last 6 months of data so they move as each month is goes. I saw a slick way of doing this using the count function but this did not quite fulfill my needs. What I was looking for is to be able to input the start month in a cell. The cell would be part of the function within the formula. I created a simplified version of the spreadsheet below.

Spreadsheet.jpg

Then I created my names using the ctrl-F3

Names.jpg

I then created the graph I wanted and wanted to use the formula =SERIES(Sheet1!$B$3,!chtCat,!chtIssuesReported,1). This kept getting an error indicated nothing really. It basically says there is something wrong with my Series function. I have a working version of a similiar worksheet I have been basing my entries on. They look almost identical but mine is failing. I also created a new file and tried this and it still fails. I can run the formula evaluator within Excel 2010 against the !chtCat and !chtIssuesReported names and they both return the correct value (which equals areas on the spreadsheet). I have also tried to enter the spreadsheet name and a tab in front of the names to get them to work and still get an error. Basicall I am trying to create the graph below (this grpah is using the hard coded locations)

OFFSET-COUNT-MATCH Method To Create Dynamic Named Ranges

Dynamic Print Area

Feb 5, 2009

I can define a name to calculate the desired Print Area for a page. For example, print_area_notes: =Notes!$A$1:INDEX(Notes!$A:$Z,final_Note,5). I can then use that name when defining the Print Area via Page Setup.

The problem is it calculates the cell range immediately and substitutes that in the Print Area field. When print_area_notes changes the actual Print Area does not. Is there some formula I can enter in Print Area that will allow this value to be set dynamically? I have tried setting Print Area to =indirect("print_area_notes") but it doesn't like that. I could, but prefer not to, write a VBA function to set the Print Area but even then how do I set it to be called automatically? I'd prefer to be able to enter a formula and do it without VBA code because you then have the security issues every time the spreadsheet is opened.

Find Print Range And Print Invoices From 250 Tabs

Feb 24, 2014

I have a pretty large spreadsheet set up that invoices our clients. A few tabs in the front allow us to globally invoice if we did certain services for all clients and then we can also go into each tab and invoice each client for specific services performed on their property. Some invoices are two pages long and other may be up to seven pages long and anywhere in between... So that's the first issue, how do you find how many pages to print and then set the print range for each invoice.

The second issue centers around being able to print all the invoices at one time.

The spreadsheet is set up in this manner: A recap sheet we print to check off that each invoice was printed; an IIF statement to get the Excel info into QuickBooks; a template to set up each invoice's information with dates, dates services were performed, etc.; then there are five Global billing tabs where I can invoice all accounts globally or by their type of account (Saturday or Sunday open, 24/7 etc.); then we get into the tabs for each account. Each account has its own tab with an invoice loaded inside where we can itemize the services they received. Inside all these individual account tabs we have set up 'Zone' tabs where we can invoice all the clients we set up within a zone. There are about twenty of these tabs. Then at the end I have a few more tabs that aren't used any longer, there are about ten tabs there...

Is there a way I can hit Print and get all of my invoices to print out at one time versus having to go into each and every tab, set the print range, and then hit Print for all 250ish invoices?

This is the biggest complaint I have right now about the invoicing program I have set up...
