Excel 2010 :: Dynamic Range - Cell References Changing In OFFSET Function
Apr 12, 2012
I'm working in Excel 2010. I'm trying to create a dynamic range, using the OFFSET function. I've got it working beautifully but as soon as I save it and close the Name Manager the range stops working. When I go back into Name Manager I find all the cell references have changed (from C1:C600 to C1048572:C595 - or some other strange range).
P.S. What it's doing isn't so important as when the cell references are right it works. But just for full info: It's an OFFSET function, starting at A1. It will look at a list of companies and use a Match function to find out how many rows to offset (based on where the first instance of a particular company. And it uses the COUNTIF to make the range the same number of rows as there are entries for that company.
I want to use a dynamic range in order to use this formula below in column A as long as there is something entered in column H = SUMIF($N:$N,A5,$I:$I). any ideas on syntax and will this be using the offset function within excel. I know I have posted a couple times about getting this formula to replicate itself down certain columns as long as someone enters text in another. I looked into the offset reply information somone posted but it seemed a little over my head.
I am in the process of setting up some graphs. The graphs will show the last 6 months of data so they move as each month is goes. I saw a slick way of doing this using the count function but this did not quite fulfill my needs. What I was looking for is to be able to input the start month in a cell. The cell would be part of the function within the formula. I created a simplified version of the spreadsheet below.

Then I created my names using the ctrl-F3
Names.jpg
I then created the graph I wanted and wanted to use the formula =SERIES(Sheet1!$B$3,!chtCat,!chtIssuesReported,1). This kept getting an error indicated nothing really. It basically says there is something wrong with my Series function. I have a working version of a similiar worksheet I have been basing my entries on. They look almost identical but mine is failing. I also created a new file and tried this and it still fails. I can run the formula evaluator within Excel 2010 against the !chtCat and !chtIssuesReported names and they both return the correct value (which equals areas on the spreadsheet). I have also tried to enter the spreadsheet name and a tab in front of the names to get them to work and still get an error. Basicall I am trying to create the graph below (this grpah is using the hard coded locations)
I have a worksheet where the number of rows will change on a weekly basis and I would like to print the sheet out without having to change the print range every week.
I have tried to use the OFFSET function in the print range in print setup but once this has been entered and printed, it changes to the actual print range the OFFSET returns.
I'm trying to create a dynamic COUNTIF function that references a previous cell.
For example, if I have 10 columns:
A B C D E F G H I J
a 1 b 2 c 3 a 1 b 3
I am trying to write a function that will let me reference A1:J1 and then if the cell contains an A, do a countif among the cell+1 for cells that have a value of "1". In this example, that function would return a count of 2. I think that I need some kind of combination of IF, INDIRECT, and COUNTIF, but I'm not sure how to string them all together--or maybe there's another way altogether.
I am having a few problems with dynamic named range in excel 2000.
When adding new data to the range, excel extends the range correctly, but only copies some of the formula correctly. It does not copy the formula that references a cell from another line.
I am trying to create a excel spreadsheet and have a formula =e10-e9, which does not copy down.
I have this code in a macro, the range will change as more data is added. so that I dont have to keep changing the range. How can I have this code autofill from the activecell to the last cell that has data in column M.
If i have a range say E12:O12 and want to find the last cell before blank, lets say it finds m12 as the cell with the value before blank. then with m12 it needs to determine weather row 11 in the same column has Text either "S" or "F" if "S" then m12 = t if "F" then m12 offset(1,-1) = t. And just to make things more difficult i need the range E12:O12 to step 2 as well until it gets to E208:O208 .Noting that row 11 never changes and will always have either an "S" Or an "F"
I am trying to insert a Pivot table with dynamic Name Ranges. It needs to start from Cell B1 as Column A has hidden formulas in them. I created an Dynamic Name range and tried to insert a pivot table. Excel then throws out a error stating "Data source reference is not valid". I tried re-saving the document but still no luck.
Had been using this formula for almost 3 years, recently the formula didn't work properly as the range goes down halfway only instead of to the last data in the column. I'm using Excel 2010 now.
how to use the offset function to create a dynamic range in Excel 2010. An in-house Excel form I work with spans columns A thru P and has three sections. In Section 2 the user fills in employees who are requesting to work overtime. Section 2 starts row 12 and ends row 61. It's sometimes necessary to add rows to this section. How do I make this section/range dynamic using the offset function?
I have a set of four pivot tables on a sheet that I need to programmatically change a Report Filter (Page Field) so I can create sets of reports in an automated fashion. This will be the first step in that process. The change will involve choosing > 1 Role each time the code loops through based on Named Ranges I've defined that are associated with that Role.
My code thus far:
Code: Sub TestCode() Dim pt As PivotTable Dim pf As PivotField Dim pi As PivotItem
[Code]....
emm_dc_gsr is one of many Named Ranges that will contain a variable number of elements. Just using the one right now to see if I can get the code to work, I'll eventually make another Named Range/Array of all them so I can loop through each Report ("ReportPick").
I want the Report Filter to consult that Named Range for its values and apply those values to PivotField "Role" that is used as a Report Filter.
When running this code above, I get a "Role" Field that says "All" but no values (the table is completely blank), with no evidence as to why it'd be blank (all filters in every Report, Column and Row are working normally and are filled in). When I choose a value manually after the code is run, the pivot table values populate. Do I need to somehow index the Named Range in that loop? I'm just confused about this step right here:
For Each pi In pf.PivotItems If pi.Value = RolePick Then pi.Visible = True Else: pi.Value = False
When I've run other versions of the code, I've gotten an array version of it to "work" using LBound and UBound, but it never chooses the right two values even though those are verified as stored in the array via a pass-through. It chooses the first few values in the Report Filter.
Here's the corresponding code for that:
For i = LBound(myArray) To UBound(myArray) pf.PivotItems(i).Name = myArray(i, 1).Value pf.PivotItems(i).Visible = True Next
I do not care if I use an array or a Named Range. I just want something that is simple and works. Passing the values directly from the named range seems easiest to my brain, but I'm open to anything and I'm clearly missing something (probably silly).
I also have no idea why " .AutoSort xlManual, .SourceName, .EnableMultiplePageItems" is necessary though every piece of sample code I've seen seems to have some variation of it.
i'm running out an option, i must use offset or index function but there are problem found: 1.Offset function cannot use a dynamic height or number of columns and the result are #NAME?, here is the code
VB: Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()Dim k As Variant Dim b As Variant Range(Me.RefEdit1).Name = "item"
i have 2 worksheets. one with portfolio stock data, and a second that i would like to use for dynamic charting. the chart worksheet has a drop down menu that chages a refernce cell to a number corresponding to the collumn in the portfolio worksheet for the chosen ticker
i would like to make a dynamic chart that updates the data ranges based on something like this: ....
I am using Excel 2010 and trying to change/edit the color of the tabs in my workbook to turn green or red based on a y or n placed in a cell (the same cell on each tab). I have tried variations on several themes others have asked about as well for Excel 2007 and attempted to adapt them to fit my situation but none seem to work. Here's what I was starting with:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Select Case Range("A1").Value Case Is < 2.5 Sheet1.Tab.Color = vbRed Case Is > 2. 5, Is < 4 Sheet1.Tab.Color = vbGreen End Select End Sub
The cell I'm using is F2 and my cell value is simply y or n. I realize the example above references numeric values and greater than/less than options, but I'm not sure how to correct this for my need.
I would like to accomplish 2 things in my Excel 2010 spreadsheet by click a cell which already has a number and formatting in it.
1. How do I change the color of the cell, the color of the number in it, and the border around it. (Make it look like I just pressed a button by clicking it.)
2. At the same time have the text in different cell and the number in the selected cell appear in another different cell. (Text in a different cell = A , and the number in the selected cell = 23, the value in the resulting cell be "A 23") Everything I would like to happen at the same time by clicking the selected cell. I would also like this to be done several times by clicking different cells and not changing the previously selected cells.
I have code where the user inputs a date, the macro finds this cell and sets rngFound as the location of that cell. The macro then creates a new workbook with new worksheet. Using rngFound as a reference, I need to sum the cells one below and five to the right and put this sum into a cell on the new worksheet.
I did a little research and found the offset which takes care of the referencing, but I cannot figure out how to incorporate this into a sum function in vba.
Below is my attempt. Previous to this part of the code, I am active in the newly created worksheet so I am attempting to input a formula based on offsetting the found range. Another problem is that I am going to have to repeat this step for 50 rows going down. Is there a way to set a loop? Or would I have to write out this code, changing the ranges and offsets 50 times?
I have a large workbook with LOTS of large formulas. However they dont contain $ characters before the ranges as I haven't needed to manipulate them til now. Now I am changing the sheet and I cant seem to move or copy these cells without the ranges whithin the formulas changing! Is there a way to do this? If not is there a way in VBA that I can check through selected cellls and enter a $ before all the ranges?
How, via VBA, would I add a comment from a userform (text box name: txtReason) into a cell that may already have a comment in it? I would like to keep the comment that is in the cell and then have the program add a "/" and the next comment from txtReason..
I know how to create a dynamic named range so that no blanks appear in my data validation list but have only ever done this for a list in a column, i.e...
I have a data set that alters each week which means at the moment I have to update the ranges manually each time. I would like to use a dynamic range and think I need to use the Offset and CountIf functions. Both the start and end of the ranges are dynamic. The range is based on grouping the numbers in Column E (LocNo)
What I would like to do or think the way to achieve this is by:
First looking at Column E
Count how many cells are equal to criteria. (CountIf)
offset 5 columns left from the first cell that meets the criteria (Offset -5)
offset X rows down based on how many cells meet the criteria (Offset X)
I've include a spreadsheet spread sheet which 'should' help illustrate the problem showing the ranges I would like and how the data changes each week.
When I make a dynamic named range, I typically do something like:
=offset($A$1,,,counta(A:A),counta(1:1))
I remember awhile ago I saw (within some of the comments on Jon Peltier's site, I believe) a way to make a dynamic named range without using offset. Does anyone know how to do it?
I am trying to use an IF statment to look at 2 values, 1 from a defined range and the second based on offsetting the the first to Format a number of cells with a worksheet. Affectivley if the First Value is "E" and the value two columns to the left is a Sat or Sun I wish to format the row slightly differently from if it is a weekday. (There will be an M and a L as well)
I am having some difficulties using a combination of IF and the OFFSET function to display a range of cell values from another column based on a simple condition. The values I need to display at the destination cells should be offset by 8 columns to the right and "X" rows down from the reference column. The value "X" is to be determined via the IF function to check for the row index number.
For example, if Index value "X" = 8, then display the value of B2 in cell I9. IF X = "9", display B2 in cell I10 etc.
I have attached a sample worksheet that provides some examples.
I've recently been making a macro in visual basic that loops through all my excel files and replaces an old company name to a new company name and It's working great, well except for one thing... It always misses one string in the file and it leaves me with 90% of the file corrected. I think that the string might be a part of a merged range so Range.Find is not able to find it. I was suggested to use this code:
[Code] ......
Because that's the code that is generated when using the replace function in MS Excel 2010, but I keep getting syntax errors?
I have three columns of data in columns A,B,C - there are formulas in these columns that either produce a numeric value or return blank.
I have created Dynamic Named Ranges for each of them and have entered the following formula: =OFFSET(Working!$A$1,1,0,MATCH(1E+305,Working!$A:$A,1))
My issue is that this formula is looking one row past the last numeric entry in the column (a blank) which is leaving a blank space when I graph this data.
I pulled a set of financial statements from a database into Excel. All of the values are hard coded but I would like to make them dynamic, while maintaining the original content. For example, If cell C3 is a revenue figure for 2012 ($1,000) I would like to link it to cell C5, which will be a currency conversion rate (2.0). So I would like cell C3 to read =1000*C5, which would equal 2000, and for cell D3 to equal 2013 sales*D5, etc. I would also like this to go across a specified range so that I can also change operating expenses, taxes, etc over a number of columns (dates) that I define, all linking to the conversion rate for the given year. Having another tab where you link and anchor is an option but I would prefer something in VBA where I can qickly include this functionality with new workbooks that I download.
