Errors - Microsoft Excel Has Stopped Working - Crash In Pivot Table
Jun 10, 2013
I have created several reports containing pivot charts with slicers, pivot tables and data sets. Total file size is around 5MB. Need to do an update in my pivot table Like adding an additional grouping on one of my dimensions. As soon as I start doing so the Microsoft Excel stopped working error message pops up and my file crashes! Removing existing groupings seems for some reason to be impossible as well: nothing happens when I do this. Ahow to solve this without having to rebuild all my reports?
I have been working on a workbook, and all of a sudden, my keyboard no longer worked in Excel. No shortcuts, no CTRL+C, no CTRL+V, no CTRL+S, no CTRL+A, no F12 to save, no letters, no numbers.... The only button that is working is my ALT key, and I use the other letter keys just fine to navigate after pressing ALT.... But that's it!
I have still been able to work on it because I can still write in Word, and I can still write more code in the Visual Basic window, and I can still click the buttons I create under the Developer... but it's still frustrating to not be able to type a thing in any of the cells, formula bar, or be able to use any of the shortcuts. And now when I tried to close it, I can still select everything else, and I can close this workbook, but it won't close Excel.
I've got a spread sheet at work that is shared between 4 people. It's password protected and its been protected so only four of us can edit it. It was working fine until yesterday for no reason the auto filter stopped working. The drop down arrows are still there but nothing happens when you click on them?
The sheet was made on excel 2003 but one of the users uses the newer excel which we will all eventually get.
1. Pull data from the internet 2. Perform calculations on the data 3. Graph the calculated values
- As I run the macro, Excel dies in step 3, where I graph the calculated values. - It works about 5% of the time and gives me the "Excel has stopped working" error 95% of the time - I can't isolate any difference in the attempts - I've located the area in the macro where it dies, but I can't identify the exact line since it seems to shift around in this area - It works perfectly fine when I step through using F8 - I've attempted DoEvents and Application.Wait to debug. Application.Wait for 5 seconds allows the macro to work about 50% of the time and increases in efficiency the longer I wait - Steps 1 and 2 work perfectly fine (I've used that code in many macros), so I'm pretty sure the issue is in the below code:
I'm running Windows 7, Office 2010
Code: 'Chart variables Sheets("Summary").Select Dim ChartRange As Range
I recently got a new laptop. I now have excel 2007 and vista. The debug step key, F8, does not work. It toggles out of excel when pushed. If I start the procedure in the debug menu, the SHIFT - F8 will step through though. Is there a setting I am missing? It must have somehting to do with VISTA since in the debug section it says to use F8.
- a list of data - a pivottable based on these data
When moving this worksheet this worksheet to another workbook, the pivot table can't refresh anymore. This throws an error message "Reference is not valid". To work around this problem I need to adapt the datasource. The same occurs if the list and the pivot table are on separate sheet, with the added strange behaviour that, when data an PT are split, it is not possible to move both sheet together.
This would not be a big issue if my problem had to be solved manually. The real problem is that I need to move the sheets from a C# program.
Yesterday I needed to install some new software that required at the end reinstalling of Microsoft Redistributable 2005. Not sure if for that reason but now the last line (the SendKeys) is not sending the email automatically anymore. What happens is: -the email message windows pops up but is not being sent unless i do it manually (if i get rid of the two seconds pause ahead of that) -have a VB error message that takes me before the SendKeys line (if I keep the two secs wait ahead of that)
It looks to me that either: -the pc is not active anymore on the email message therefore the SendKeys doesnt work -somehow the instruction finds the "door" shut by something else -worse of all, the software has messed up with those send keys commands (tried to reinstall it but to no avail)
What could make this line of code stop working. It has worked for weeks, and just yesterday it stopped working. :x
ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Email").UsedRange.AutoFilter Field:=2 The sheet is unprotected, and events are enabled. I don't know of anything different than before. What do I look for that would not allow this code to run?
I made a spread sheet last year that used various COUNTIF formulas that referenced other cells. =COUNTIF(I40:ER40,"A") It worked perfect.
I copied that spreadsheet to use for this year. I cannot get this formula to work. I have reentered in various locations and forms, but to no avail. If I enter the data and then enter the formula, it works.
However, if I enter the formula first and then enter the data (which I will do over the course of the year) it does not work. I even tried to reconstruct all of this in a brand new spread sheet and it still is not working, although last year's spread sheet still works.
I'm using a CALL Macro to split up a HUGE macro into different pieces:
Code: Sub RSLDASHBOARDV2() 'Macro recorded 12/14/2010 by Ryan R. Koleno, Pharm.D. 'Last Updated 7/10/12 by Ryan R. Koleno, Pharm.D. 'Do Not Modify Code Unless Given Proper Privileges to do so. Dim APPSPD As Worksheet With Application .ScreenUpdating = False .Calculation = xlCalculationManual
The first few macros dealing with page setup and what not work fine but when it hits the Pivot table code for the STATSPIVOT macro it errors out stating: "Run-time error '1004': Unable to get the PivotItems property of PivotField class' at this point in the code:
Code: objField2.PivotItems( _ "TRC").Position = 1 objField.PivotItems( _ "MEDCO MAIL OR AOB").Position = 2
When this macro is not split up it worked fine as written. Am I overlooking something in the Call Macro's code or is there a variable I'm not aware of. I have included the Pivot Table code that errors out as well.
Code: Sub STATSPIVOT() 'STATS PAGE BASED ON STATS DATA TAB Sheets("STATS DATA").Select Dim objTable As PivotTable, objField As PivotField ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("STATS DATA").Select Range("A1").Select
I'm scraping a website for some data using the following program. The program was working as expected until I decided to add a save file element that was a copy paste of some code a friend gave me (attached below). Funny thing is the save file functionality works but now I can't get IE to load the webpage - I get a 438 Error. I'm thinking there's a problem with something in the references menu.
Code: Sub GET_PVI() Dim Days_in_Month(1 To 12) As Integer Dim Name As String
I have been working on this application for the past couple weeks and I have this module of code that copy's a worksheet into a new workbook and changes everything into values. However I have added buttons onto this sheet and after running the code again it froze the program, in which I had to manually end. It gave an error afterwards however I don't remember what it said. Now everything I try to run or step through it, nothing happens. And I have turned Events and ScreenUpdating on.
I would also like to note that it won't allow me to perform actions like unhide sheets or unprotect them. The code has not been changed either so what has happened to disable all functionality.

I have and excel sheet that pulls data from an external source (ServiceNow) via MS Query.
From the exported data, I have the following:
Date opened (MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS AM/PM) Date closed (MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS AM/PM) calendar_stc (this exports in seconds, such as 136) (this equals date closed minus date opened for each record) assignment group
From this export, I'm trying to make a pivot table to show the average calendar_stc per assignment group, per month, per year; but in hours, not seconds.
I thought this was an easy process, create pivot to group row data by years then by months. Then add in assignment group to to the Rows as well. From there, I added to the values section of the pivot the calendar_stc. The default, of course, is to sum each row. But I need the average so I switched it to average. Now it is showing the correct average calendar_stc in seconds per group. To make it hours, I figured I could add in a calculated field. To do that I added the formula of =calendar_stc/60/60 for the calculated field. When I hit okay, it's giving me the SUM in hours for each row. Modifying the field settings to average does not change the numbers. So I went back into the formula and modified =average(calendar_stc/60/60). And that is not working either.
Here is an example to show the math with my formula.
When I copy or cut, I usually get a dashed border around the cells I have copied (or cut), I can then right-click somewhere to paste, but at some point in time recently this functionality has stopped working. The format painter doesn't work either - the paintbrush icon stays pressed for about half a second, then just goes away and I can't paste my formatting.
An operation I often do in excel is to copy a date from one cell, then highlight a few cells elsewhere and press enter to paste the date into them. I also like to right click on a row and Cut, then past it further down my list to re-order things, but this won't work either.
I don't know what I've done to make it go away. If I restart my computer and open a workbook, then I can copy/paste at least once (maybe a few times) then it stops again.
This is caused by a Skype 'click to call' function, but I don't have that installed here. I have actually just tried installing it, so I could run through the uninstall (thinking there might be debris from something previously), but it made no difference.
I have entered a custom sort order under 'first key sort order,' but the field is not sorting according to the list.
I'm sure I entered the list correctly, because I actually entered it a long time ago, and it was working for a while. However, today the underlying data was temporarily erased, and the pivot table, when refreshed, basically went blank. I restored the data and refreshed the table, but this field is back to sorting in the wrong order. Refreshing the pivot table and re-choosing the appropriate sort options do not work.
Unfortunately I receive an error saying it can't group the selection.
I have done "text to columns" and made the cells - (date values) and I have had no luck.
As I am at work I can't use the HTML genie because it won't install but I have uploaded a dummy file to my dropbox which available from here [URL] .......
I pull this data from an Oracle POWER PIVOT and always have trouble grouping the dates when they come from Power Pivot. Currently working as analyst so figuring this out would make life so much easier as I could group by months etc.
My macro is designed to look at a summary source tab and create a new tab for each unique project number. It then creates a pivot table from five different source detail tabs and filters on the project number. If a tab already exists it selects the tab and moves on to the next project number. There are six pivot tables created for every project.
New data is added each month to the source tabs and I have a macro to delete all pivot tables and the macro will recreate the pivot tables when ran again.
Issue: Running out of resources At work I'm limited to the use of Excel 2010 (32bit) so I'm restricted on 2GB of memory. At home I ran the file successfully (64bit) and it was around 3GB of memory.
My macro creates a new pivot cache for every pivot table where as I'm trying to only use 6 pivot caches in my coding. I kill it half way through and it's around 100+ caches causing unnecessary usage of memory.
Fix / Solution:
Correctly code the vba to only create six caches and code the rest the pivot tables to use that cache. The only difference in the Pivot Tables is that it’s sorted on the Project Number.
Dim VBAPPPC As PivotCache Dim VBAAPPC As PivotCache Dim VBAPRPC As PivotCache Dim VBAEXPC As PivotCache Dim VBAMJPC As PivotCache Dim VBAIVPC As PivotCache Dim VBAPT As PivotTable
I have a pivot table that I want to update via VBA based on dates user inputs on an input tab. (Want to use the Between function)
The Date field is in the Report Filter section (as I don't want it in the row or column area), but when I click on the dropdown arrow, I don't get any option to filter the date at all. I've double checked that the dates in my datasource are formatted for a pivot table, but that doesn't seem to be the issue.
When I use code I've found on this and other sites, it also doesn't work. When I run it, I get the following error at the "If Date DateValue(PI.Name) < StartDate Or DateValue(PI.Name) > EndDate Then..." line
Error Message: Unable to set the Visable Property of the Pivot Item Class
Code: Sub Test() Const StartDate As Date = #1/15/2013# Const EndDate As Date = #2/13/2013#
I have a very large excel data file, which I want to analyse using pivot tables. The problem is that while most of the columns are headed with the variable name (e.g. country) and have the list of variables displayed under that heading for each observation (e.g. Italy), the years are spread across the columns - i.e. the heading for column X is not "Year", but is 2003, with the next column being 2004, etc.
Is there a quick way I can re-arrange the data so that the layout is consistent and so that I can use it for pivot tables? I have way too many observations to do this by hand.
Recently, the boss showed me a Pivot table & chart, which consists of a list of about 30 user names in the first column. The row headings were the different items they purchased from a vending machine. & when he clicked on any name in the first column, this created a new sheet, renamed with users name, with a small table of results showing what that person purchased.
Problem is, none of us can figure out how to do this. I have created a new Pivot table & chart exactly like the original, but I cannot get the smaller sheet to generate. (Excel 2010)
I have problems with my excel crashing all the time when I try to run my code. It seems to happen in a loop where I open a .txt file and pull data from it, then close it, and open the next one...
There are no error code, just a message that Excel has stopped working and it will be closed, and then it is forced to restart. Just a mess!
This is my loop code:
Code: Option Explicit Dim Desktop As String Sub Open60only() Desktop = CreateObject("WScript.Shell").SpecialFolders("Desktop") & Application.PathSeparator Dim which_folder As String, which_file As String, which_string As String, tick As String Dim lastrow As Long Dim wb1 As Workbook, wb2 As Workbook
