Reference Table (not Pivot Table) From Another Excel File
Aug 9, 2012I want to reference a table (not a pivot table) from another Excel file. I want it to update automatically if the original table is changed in any way.

Excel 2010 :: Pivot Table Reference Is Not Valid When Moving Data And Pivot Table Together?
Mar 19, 2013On a worksheet, I created:
- a list of data
- a pivottable based on these data
When moving this worksheet this worksheet to another workbook, the pivot table can't refresh anymore. This throws an error message "Reference is not valid". To work around this problem I need to adapt the datasource. The same occurs if the list and the pivot table are on separate sheet, with the added strange behaviour that, when data an PT are split, it is not possible to move both sheet together.
This would not be a big issue if my problem had to be solved manually. The real problem is that I need to move the sheets from a C# program.

Selling day changes most days.
I put the calculation into my pivot data but it's summing up, (instead on 12 I get 720) so I changed this to Average so I get the right figure in the Pivot but when I then use this field, it doesn't use the Average amount, it uses the summed figure.
So what I need is Total Sales/X

Convert Layout Of Excel Table To Make It Suitable For Pivot Table
Mar 27, 2012I have a very large excel data file, which I want to analyse using pivot tables. The problem is that while most of the columns are headed with the variable name (e.g. country) and have the list of variables displayed under that heading for each observation (e.g. Italy), the years are spread across the columns - i.e. the heading for column X is not "Year", but is 2003, with the next column being 2004, etc.
Is there a quick way I can re-arrange the data so that the layout is consistent and so that I can use it for pivot tables? I have way too many observations to do this by hand.
Excel 2010 :: Create Sheet With Table From Pivot Table?
Apr 26, 2012Recently, the boss showed me a Pivot table & chart, which consists of a list of about 30 user names in the first column. The row headings were the different items they purchased from a vending machine. & when he clicked on any name in the first column, this created a new sheet, renamed with users name, with a small table of results showing what that person purchased.
Problem is, none of us can figure out how to do this. I have created a new Pivot table & chart exactly like the original, but I cannot get the smaller sheet to generate. (Excel 2010)

I got the first part done, but I can't figure out how to make the pivot table to incorporate new data in the summary sheet as new worksheets/data is added.

Dec 13, 2012I have two fields where users enter a security identifier (cell P1) and the declaration date (cell P2) and i'd like to be able to pull all the records from the master table (A1:K10) where the security id matches (column H) and the request date (column C) is <= the declaration date (i've attached a sample file for your reference). I tried using a pivot table but it doesn't let me filter for "less than or equal to" values for the request date.

Feb 25, 2009I have a workbook that reports data on a daily basis within a month. I receive data daily from a different workbook and import the data for the day in its correct worksheet which has functions that automatically calculate everything I need, which then gets collected from a central worksheet which accumulates the "Total".
However, I have recently added 2 new pivot tables to my analysis, and apparently when i copy/paste the pivot tables to each new sheet, the data source is references the original sheet where the pivot tables come from.
I tried doing a dynamic name range, and that states the worksheet name in its reference as well.
How can I make a Pivot Table, gather the information from the same range $A$1:$J$5000, but only for the sheet in which the Pivot Table lies.
The sheets are labeled by the day of the month.
So, data for February 1, 2009 is worksheet "1"
February 14, 2009 is "14"

Pivot Table Refresh Reference Invalid On 1 Networked PC
Apr 30, 2008I have a very strange problem with a pivot table in Excel 2007. The source data is in a table in another workbook, stored on a shared network drive. We have 7 PCs in our office, and on 6 of them the pivot table refreshes fine. On the other, it always comes up with an error message that the reference is not valid, even if the source workbook is open. This particular PC is connected by a cable, so it can't be a wireless network problem.
All the PCs have got all updates installed, and as far as I can see the Trust Centre settings are the same (the problem PC can run macros from the same folder without problems). The really annoying thing is that the user of the problem PC is the only person who actually needs to refresh the data as part of her job.

Mar 14, 2013I have a worksheet with two pivot tables, one of which is visible to the user. Ideally, the user should be able to change the "Row Label" field settings of the visible pivot table and then press an "update button" that then adds the same field to the second pivot table.
Ideally, the ordering of the fields should also be made similar between the two tables, though this is of less priority.
I imagine it would be something in the style of:
"If number of Pivot1 active row label fields = X then
Pivot 2.AddRowLabelField = Pivot1.RowLabelField(X)

Oct 12, 2006What is it with Pivot Tables and their gigantic file size increases. I have a file. Which has a table of data behind it of approximately 5000-6000 rows and ~ 100 columns of data. If I save the file without the Pivot Table it's filesize is Mb. If I save it with the Table and Chart its filesize increases to over 10 Mb. I am experimenting with dynamically creating the pivot table so that I can conserve storage space but if someone has some idea on why pivot tables consume so much space

I would like to know if there is a way to change the date on one of the pivot table and have the other pivot tables date change to match with the first pivot table. Mar 13, 2014My macro is designed to look at a summary source tab and create a new tab for each unique project number. It then creates a pivot table from five different source detail tabs and filters on the project number. If a tab already exists it selects the tab and moves on to the next project number. There are six pivot tables created for every project.
New data is added each month to the source tabs and I have a macro to delete all pivot tables and the macro will recreate the pivot tables when ran again.
Issue: Running out of resources At work I'm limited to the use of Excel 2010 (32bit) so I'm restricted on 2GB of memory. At home I ran the file successfully (64bit) and it was around 3GB of memory.
My macro creates a new pivot cache for every pivot table where as I'm trying to only use 6 pivot caches in my coding. I kill it half way through and it's around 100+ caches causing unnecessary usage of memory.
Fix / Solution:
Correctly code the vba to only create six caches and code the rest the pivot tables to use that cache.The only difference in the Pivot Tables is that it’s sorted on the Project Number.

Compressing Large Pivot Table File
Jun 7, 2013My pivot table file is currently 12.7 MB and I need to get it much smaller so I can email it and it still be functional with the data.
I have tried right clicking on the pivot table, going to PivotTable Options, clicking on the data tab, unchecking the 'save source data with file' box, and checking the 'refresh data when opening file' box. This shrunk the file perfectly but when i email the file the Pivot Table was unusable because there was no data to back up the function.
The Error messages I got were 'Cannot open PivotTable source file'..... and 'Pivot Table report was saved without the underlying data. Use the Refresh Data command to update the report'. When I click on Refresh Data I still get the same error message.
Any way I can make this File smaller and still functional.
Create Pivot Table For Each File In Folder?
Apr 5, 2012I have the following code that will open each file in a folder and run code on it. I'm trying to write code that will create a pivot table on each of the opned files...but cannot get past opening the file...
So I had built the vba code into a specific workbook so I could just drop that workbook into any folder I wanted to run code on files to and depending on the name of the file it would run different type of code. The problem has something to do with using "activesheet" for the pivot table wizard. It just doesn't like it and gives me a application 1004 error.
any way I can modify the activesheet so it will make a pivot of the newly opened file? I think what it is trying to do is make a pivot of the blank workbook that the code resides in

Import Data From Access Table To Pivot Table - Enable Auto Refresh
Feb 1, 2010I have enable Refresh on Open for my excel pivot table, but user need to click "Enable Automatic Refresh" , only solution i came across is to change the registry setting. Which i dont have access to edit registry(admin disable the access).
Alternate solution i try to use Access macro to automate the process and use Outputto save it as a excel file A. Then use excel file B to update pivot table from excel file A.(as excel A data is always latest)
The problem is i will get "....A file name already exist...do you want to overwrite.." prompt.
Which defeat the automate process.
Any other solution to enable the automatic refresh on open the excel workbook?
Or Access can overwrite the exist file or save it as another file name with timestamp ?

Column Shows In Pivot Table But Doesn't In Source Table?
Oct 5, 2011There is pivot table for some reason the last column (YEAccts), which sums all the other columns values is exluding the 1st column for some reason. This "YEAccts" shows up fine in the pivot table "field list". And I followed the source for this and it's a table in a different tab that pulls data from an access query connection.
The name of the column that is summing up the rest of the columns is "YEAccts", but for the life of me I can't seem to find where this column is in the source table tab or even in the access query where the data is being pulled from.
How to find this "YEAccts" column? Also, why would it exclude not summing up the data in the first column?

Linking Pivot Table To Data Source Table?

So if i had date as one of my headers and i filtered the date to a specfifc date, is there a way to also filter the date in the data source sheet?
