I have a simple concatenate in Excel...
=CONCATENATE(A1, ", ", A2)
Which produces:
This is, my text
Now, I want 'my text' i.e. the contents of A2 to be in bold.
I've played with the TEXT() function before, as per this page: [URL] ........

To get Excel to play nicely with date formats and stuff, however, my research has come to a dead end with Bold/Italic - with everyone suggesting that VBA is the only solution.
As I don't feel overly comfortable using VBA is there any other solution? (If not, is this a VBA 101 task or an advanced task?)

I have the following situation and I'm trying to do this using a PC with Excel 2007.
I would like this:
T
N
O
O
C
O
E
I
M
I
T
[Code] ........
To look like this:
T
H
A
N
K
[Code] .........
This procedure will become part of a macro. The number of rows will vary but the number of columns will be the same (11 columns). I don't care too much about the order since I can later sort. As long as the data from all columns in now in one column.

I have a pivot table that summarizes jobs that need to be completed on a specified date. I need to put that information on a calendar, but I would like to concatenate all information from that date so I can do a vlookup from the calendar. My other problem is that the number of cells change for each date, so I cannot specify exact cells, (some only have 1 entry, but others may have 4 or more). Can I specify a range of cells based on the result of the pivot table?
I have attached the pivot table, calendar and the data sheet with the vlookup info. Am I using the proper calendar or method to find this info?I have struggled with this for over a week now.

I am merging columns. Col B has all text in bold. Col C has all text in regular font. When I use ASAP to merge, the merged column comes out all bold. When I use a formula to merge the merged column comes out all regular. What I want is for the merged column to contain the bold text from Col B in bold, and the regular text from Col C in regular.
What I want is...
This is for service plan B: Take all data and transer to new server.
What I am getting is...
This is for service plan B:Take all data and transer to new server.

Possible to use concatenate function to enter a formula to a cell and have the cell show the result?
I enter the following in a cell:
=CONCATENATE("=LEN(""",A2,"""",")") 'A2 contains the string "Exchange rate: 925"
what is shown in the cell is:
=LEN("Exchange rate: 925")
If I manually enter the above len function in the next cell, the cell displays 18.
Is it possible to use the concatenate function, maybe combine with other functions, to display 18 in a cell?

What is the best way to concatenate with a semi-colon across multiple cells in excel. The one kicker is I only want to concatenate where the cell is populated.
If I write a simple Concatenate or combined columns, if a cell is blank I get the multiple.

I'm using excel 2003 and have a problem regarding some code.
Dit(a, b) = "=" & Hit(a, (d - 12 - e) + f) & "/" & (Pro & ".NrE.sol")
Where "Hit(a, (d - 12 - e) + f)" can be numbers with decimals.
When I run the code the result is nothing, unless the number is a number without decimals.
If I use just "Dit(a, b) = Hit(a, (d - 12 - e) + f)" it shows the right number.

I am trying to concatenate entries into one cell so that when uploaded, the comma-separated contents will be treated as tags. copperberry sample file.xlsxSee attached sample file. Wherever there is a 1 in a row, I want to take the column header text above that 1 and concatenate it with subsequent text in the cell at the end of the row. See sample end result in cell J2. I assume I need an IF statement, but I'm not sure how to phrase it to collect all the concatenations needed. There are 200+ rows.

I have an Excel 2010 spreadsheet that I am using to save several numbers all in the same column. These numbers can range from the several thousands up to billions. The formatting I am using for these numbers is Number (using 1000s separator).
number_forma.png
I am also using the spreadsheet to generate a text string for each of the numbers. I don't want the text string to show the number as it is, I want to shorten the number by only showing the first few digits followed by a "B" for billion, "M" for million, or "K" for thousand. For example, in the text string I want to show 1,600,000 as 1.6B.
In order to shorten the number I use the cell in the column to the right of each number. This cell uses the following custom formatting (which I found by doing a Google search): [>999999999.999]#.0,,,"B";[>999999.999]#,,"M";#,"K";
custom_format.png
As you can see the formatting is quite complex (at least for me it is) but it does what I want it to do.
Here is a screenshot of what the original and custom formatted cells look like:
custom_formatted_cells.png
As you can see the custom formatting works and does exactly what I wan
The next column (after the custom formatted number) is where I put the generated text string for each of the numbers. As I stated above, I want the generated text to use the shortened version of the number (e.g. 1.6B).
To generate the text I use the CONCATENATE function with a reference to the cell containing the shortened number as one of the arguments. For example:
CONCATENATE("SOME STRING ", B1)
Where B1 is the custom formatted cell.
The problem I am running into is, the text that gets generated doesn't show the shortened format of the number, it shows the full number. Here is a screenshot demonstrating what is happening:
concatenate_formula.png
As you can see the generated text is "SOME STRING 1600000000". This is not what I want. I want the generated text to be "SOME STRING 1.6B".
I think I understand what's going on. When the CONCATENATE function references a cell it takes the actual value of the cell and ignores any formatting. (I suppose formatting is just the way you see the data, not how underlying functions receive the data.)
My question is, how can I re-write the CONCATENATE function (or use another function, etc. available to me) to use the formatted version of the cell?
*UPDATE* I have attached my spreadsheet as an attachment to this post (tackyjan_excelforums.xlsx). Please note that it was created and saved using Excel 2010.

I am looking for a way of creating the following conditioned concatenation.
I have two tables, let's call them "summary" and "detailed".
The "detailed" table is something like the following:
ID
VOL
001
01
001
05
[code]....
The "summary" table below gets info from the "detailed" table. The 'ID'is now unique. I'm looking for a formula on the 'VOL (concatenated)' column cells it should get all rows from the "detailed" table with the same ID and then concatenate the 'VOL' column results, comma separated:
ID (unique)
VOL (concatenated)
001
V01, V03, V05
002
V01, V04
003
V06
PS: I have people using this table with office 2003, so compatibility is necessary...

I am trying to use Datevalue in Excel 2007
When I put in =datevalue("08/22/2008") I get the error #Value!
If I put in datevalue("2008/08/22") 39682 which is what I was expecting. If I use =datevalue("08/08/22") I also get the right answer, anything else I get #VALUE!
I didn't think that Datevalue mattered with how the date was in?
Do I have a setting wrong of something that could be causing the error?

I am failing on the logic and syntax to achieve the following. Basically it has to take the sum of 1, or 2 fields and validate it against the value of a 3rd field. I can get it to work for 1 field if DefPercent = 100 but not when looking at the total of 2 fields if DefPercent < 100.
Fields:
- DefPercent (if = 100 LiabilityAmt2.Enable = False) (this works fine already)
- TotalLiability
- LiabilityAmt1
- LiabilityAmt2
Output Required: logic only
If DefPercent = 100 And TotalLiability LiabilityAmt1 Then
MsgBox "error....."
Exit Sub
Else continue
If DefPercent < 100 And TotalLiability LiabilityAmt1 + LiabilityAmt2 Then
MsgBox "error...."
Exit Sub
Else continue

I am working with excel 2007 in windows 7. I am working with small animals that have been outfitted with a RFID (radio-frequency ID) tags with unique UID codes. In a sheet called Tag_info I have a list of the unique UID's of the tags that are in use along with a number of parameters (the colony in which the animal with this tag is situated, if it was treated with something, its age etc). I left out most of the parameters because they aren't relevant to my question, but it looks like this with each UID only once in the list:
A
B
C
1
UID
Colony
Treatment
[Code] ........
In a 2nd sheet, a ton of data is saved by the scanners that read the tags as the animals pass by scanners in a number of locations. The relevant data for my problem is basicly the timestamp (UTCTime_Rounded). Since animals pass by the same scanners multiple times, and scanners may read the same 'passing' as multiple signals the column with UID's here contains tons of duplicates (unlike in the Tag_info sheet where every UID is only displayed once). Once again, I left out the irrelevant data for simplification so that the data looks like this:
A
B
C
D
1
UID
Address
UTCTime_Rounded
Age at read
[Code] ........
So finally, what am I looking for? I want a formula to look up the UID's from the Tag_info sheet to find and return the first and the last timestamp (UTCTime_Rounded) for that UID in the RFID_Scan_values sheet.
So that formula basicly has to return the min and max values for UTCTime_Rounded, for each of the UID's in Tag_info. The output would look like this (I did it manually for this dummy dataset since I didn't get any formula to work yet):
A
B
C
D
1
UID
Colony
Treatment
First scanned
[Code] ........
Tag info And then a similar column for the Last scanned, max values.

I have an excel file saved as macro-enabled that is perfectly functional and can be opened on my computer (via Security Warning - Enable Macros). The file is saved on another computer, through which I am accessing by a network.
This other computer is unable to run the macros, and when we open the file in excel there is no security warning that pops up (like there is on my computer). I have gone to the Excel Options and entered the trust center settings, and finally the Macro Settings. It is set at Disable all macros with notification. (same for both computers... but on one of the computers there is no security warning that pops up)
We tried enabling all macros (temporarily) and tried re-opening the file and running a macro. We got an error message saying that macros were not enabled.
We also made the file a trusted location and saw no changes.

I have column "A" a list of my PDF filenames and File path in Column "B". I want to establish hyperlinks for each of these PDF filenames (column A) and link it with the file path that I generated in Column B.
=HYPERLINK(B1,A1) did it very well, but unfortunately when converting to PDF, the hyperlink is not working, and I believe the conversion retained is only in text, so now my only resort is hardcoding it by VBA.
