Excel 2007 :: Data Validation Based On User Input?
May 24, 2012
In the spreadsheet shown below I would like the user to select a project via a dropdown list in cell B2 which is from the data set shown in row 7 downwards. Then based on the project they select, they need to be able to see all of the locations associated with that project and choose in B3. Finally they then need to be able to select a team which is associated with the project & location combination chosen in cells B2 and B3.
I just have a basic data validation list. I used "List" and checked the right boxes and the file has been working before. Now the same file does not stop the user from typing in anything.
I re-did the same data validation in a new file and it works. Was there something in the file that prevents it from working?
I have Excel 2007. I saved in both xlsx and xlsm formats
I would like to delete a column using data validation list. for example :
i have a data validation INPUT list in cell A1 (Part No., Supplier 1, Supplier 2, Supplier 3) the heading start from B2,C2,D2,E2,F2. If user select Supplier 1 from data validation list in cell A1, the column Supplier 1 [c2] should be deleted.
And/or also if in cell B1 have a data validation INPUT row list (Part no.) & if user select part no., the selected part no. row should be deleted.
I am trying to move (archive) data from one sheet to another sheet based on a date range provided by the user’s input. If the date on sheet “list” in the cells in range R9:R10000 fall within that date range the following takes place. The rows that meet the date range per the user’s input in the range of R9:R1000 are copied and just the values are pasted into the next empty row starting with row 7 on the “report” worksheet. The cells that are copied on the “List” worksheet are NOT deleted but the contents are cleared. The reason for this is because there are formulas/links in those cells.
I have attached a worksheet example and have some VBA code but it does not work.
Sheet 1 - I have columns filled with dates (weekdays only) For example 28-May, 29-May, 30-May up to 28-Nov. Above 10 rows below each date columns and each cell has some values.
Sheet 2 - I have Start date defined in B1 Cell, and End date defined in B2 Cell
I need defining the formula to sum all the cell values fall between the date range defined in Sheet 2 B1 and B2.
For Example if B1=28-May B2=30-May, I want the sum of all the numbers come under the range of 28-May to 30-May, with this above example, it should be 19.5.
Excel 2003, I have a list of products with corresponding prices located on a hidden worksheet. I have a spot on another worksheet where users can select a certain product and next to that cell there is a column for price. What I want excel to do is auto-populate the price cell based on what product the user selects. For instance, if the user selects OD2000N, then I want the price to auto-populate with the corresponding price that is found on the hidden sheet. Like I said before, I know this has probably been answered, maybe even mulitple times but I can't seem to find the appropriate thread.
I need to copy and paste the specific dates from the specific city that the user will insert in the "dash" sheet. Basically, I need the macro to read the city and range of dates that the user will type into the "dash" sheet and copy the columns "AA" to "AD" from rows specified by the dates input. Once it has been copied, it has to be special pasted just the value onto the sheet "1" beginning at location B2.
the the data will not be available as it is vlookups to another excel sheet that i have not provided. I have deleted the data, but you can pretty much put 1's everywhere.
I've been going round in circles with this for hours and have got no-where. I 'm trying to get Excel to paste in a set pattern of data based on an input cell.
In row 1 I have months starting in cell B1. B1 = April 12, C1 = May 12, D1 = June 12, and so on
The user would enter the data in column A, starting in row 2
If the date in A2 = May 12 then Excel would enter 10 in cell C2, 20 in cell D2 and 30 in cell E2. If the date in A2 is changed to June 12, then the previous data would be cleared and Excel would enter 10 in E2, 20 in F2 and 30 in G2.
Date would be entered in A3, A4, A5 etc and I would want it to post the same fixed data depending on the date the user enters in teh relevant row.
I've tried IF statements and also some code but can't even get near it working.
I want to control what a user enters into a single cell based on others.E.g.
A B 1 20 500 2 50 500 3 75 500 4 100 300
Column A is a thickness and column b is a width what I want to happen if the user enters a thickness in cell D1 and a width in cell D2 I want an error to pop up if for instance the user enters 100 as a thickness to only allow a maximum of 300 in the width. likewise if the user enters a thickness less than 100 in cell D1 to allow him to enter up to 500.
I have a spreadsheet which monitors the hours employees work - one of the rules is that an employee must have 12 hours rest between shifts...
I am using the below Data Validation formula in column I to highlight when an employee has less than 12 hours rest and an alert to appear
=OR(AND(I4-B4=0.5),AND(I4-B4>=0,I4-B4>=0.5))
Now this works perfectly with the exception of when an employee finishes at say, 18:00hrs on a Friday, and starts at 22:00hrs on a Saturday - Excel Calculates the Rest hours as 04:00, when it should be 28:00
I've had a suggestion to use the following:
=I4+I2-B4-A2>=0.5
(I2 being the saturday date, A2 being the Friday date) - this does work but only for Cell I4, If I copy the Data Validation down the column all cell references change - is there a way to keep the I2 and A2 in the formula without having to retype in every row?
I'm using Excel 2010, and I need to restrict the value the user can enter into a cell (E9).
In cell E3 is the screen width (pixels). eg 6024 In cell E5 is the preferred width of a window. eg 450
The user, in cell E9, enters an x coordinate for which they prefer the top left corner of the window whose width is specified in E5.
If the value that the user enters in E9, added to the width entered in E5, exceeds the value of E3, (if E9+E5 > E3) then the value should be disregarded (window will be off right of screen) and the user re-enter.
I'm not familiar with the use of data validation, so I'm uncertain as to how to use it in this circumstance.
I am wanting to create a validation rule so when two cells are added the together the answer must be less than or equal to 14:00 - otherwise a message box will appear
So for example if H7+I7 gives an answer of 13:00 in J7, that's OK, but if the answer is 15:00, the error box will appear. I know that data validation doesnt work on a cell that already has a formula so I'm hoping to use K7 for the Validation and then hide the column
What I have attached is spreadsheet I've built to quickly generate an army list for a tabletop game. Anyone can click on the Force Organization Slot (FOS) and choose the type of unit and from there, select the specific unit name attached to that FOS. Each individual unit has a list of options/upgrades currently attached to the sheet from cells AD through AX and the points cost listed next to each upgrade.
For example, when selecting the Rhino unit from the Dedicated_Transport FOS, there should be 4 drop down lists of selectable upgrades (Storm Bolter, Hunter-Killer Missile, Dozer Blade, and Extra Armor). Currently, I have only named the ranges for the Rhino and Razorback units in order to get this working properly without having to go through the entire list of units and change names/create ranges/ect.
What I'm aiming to do is to create an individual drop down list that is directly related to the Unit Name cell in order to populate a complete and selectable upgrade list for each unit. I have played around with some functions that work in the spreadsheet (see cells X10:X12) but do not work properly with Data Validation.
Oddly enough, when I enter this formula under Data Validation:
I have a VBA macro for Excel 2007 below that loops through a workbook and deletes a picture (shape) in a range at the top of each worksheet.
The macro works fine until a cell which contains a seemingly unrelated data validation list on Sheets(1) is changed. The macro then repeatedly trips up with a 'Run-time error 1004 - Application defined or object defined error'.
The cell with the data validation is outside of the range in which the shapes are deleted and does not set any of the variables in the macro.
Sub DeleteLogos() Dim Count As Integer Dim NumberOfWorksheets As Integer Dim Logo As Shape Dim LogoZone As Range NumberOfWorksheets = Worksheets.Count For Count = 1 To NumberOfWorksheets With Sheets(Count)
I am attempting to put a drop down list using "Data Validation". I can get it working when my list is on the same sheet (sheet 1) and the column of cells I want the drop down list to show up in....(you know..when the drop down list shows up in each individual cell)......BUT...when I put the list on another sheet (sheet 2) and try to do the "Data Validation" back on sheet 1, excel won't let me go highlight the list on sheet 2.
I even tried writing sheet2 and the range and that still doesnt work.
I have a worksheet with several data validation dropdowns that each link to a series of hyperlinks. When you click the dropdown and select the hyperlink, it opens up that particular file. All of these work, except for one of the dropdowns. Even though I can see and select the names, the link is NOT activated.
Is there some obscure excel feature that I am not aware of that is preventing this one from working? Why would this be?
I am having trouble delete a drop down list inspite of selecting clear all from the data validation tab in excel 2007. When I hit Alt + Down Arrow, I still see picklist options. I didnt set up the spreadsheet, hence I am not sure how to begin troubleshooting.
I have a user form that has a combo box "City" two text boxes one called "Flight" and the other "Date". What I'm trying to do is to prevent the user from saving the data input from the user form if any of those three fields is left blank. The code that I have so far checks all of the required fields, if any are left blank a message notifys which field(s) is left blank and return the focus back to that field. But the rest of code also fires.
What I really need is either to stop the code if any fields are blank and return the focus back to the blank field, the user completes the field(s) and clicks the save again, or better yet, pause the code until all the required fields are completed and then complete the save. (There is actually another 200+ lines of code in this sub, but I deleted it to keep the post a little shorter.)
I am familiar how to perform the task of bringing in an access table into excel, then using a data validation filter to control the data set in Excel 2003.
I have two cells, A2 and B2. When I enter a numeric value into B2, I want it only allowed when certain text values are in A2. I.E.: Allow any value in B2, but only if A1 is either "SYDN or "ADEL".
Now using info found in an old post, I can achieve this with a combination of data validation and code: =OR(A2="SYDN",A2="ADEL") for the validation and for the code:
[Code] ......
The only problem is I also need to reset B2 if A2 changes to invalid data as a result of some other input to that cell (A2). In other words if B2 is showing "1" already and A2 were to change from "SYDN" to say "LOND", then B2 needs to be cleared. If A2 changed to "ADEL" then it doesn't need to clear but it is ok if it does because it is fine to re-enter "1" into B2 again.
I have attempted to attach a sample worksheet : Xl0000003.xls‎
I have a form that when users hit submit, the data they entered gets transfered to Access (thanks to our MVP SydneyGeek for providing me with a macro!) I want to be able to limit or control the users who sends data, by making sure they enter every information that is needed.
I have a column that has a list using Validation. How do I make certain columns required based on what they choose on the list.. if they don't fill in those columns, I don't want them to be able to click Submit, showing an error that would say "Missing Required Fields".
Cell A5 has a Yes_No pull-down list for data validation. In cell B5, I want to display the value 0.002 only if A5 is "Yes". If A5 is "No", I want the user to be able to enter a number into the B5 cell without destroying the formula.
I have created a macro that processes through information for the creation of checks.
I would like to have a way for the user to input a check number, and Excel to take that number, drop it into cell A2, then increment it and drop the next number in A3, and so on until all of the checks have been numbered. The process should stop at such a point as there is no more text in column B.
Here is an example. Let's say I have 35 checks to write. The first check number is 200. I would want a user box to pop up which asks me for the first check number. I would enter 200. Then the process would place the number 200 in cell A2 (A1 is part of the header information for the checks.) In cell A3, the number 201 would be placed. The final check number would drop into cell A36. No check numbers would appear in cells A37 and greater because cell B37 is empty, signifying that there is no further check data.
I have a range of cells that I want to sum based on a range inputed by the user. The range begins with cell c27 and ends with cell au27. I want the user to be asked the beginning cell and ending cell of the range they want to sum and then output the answer.
I have one sheet to act as a splash page for user input. The second sheet stores all relevant data. My goal is for the user to input a numerical value in a cell (or input box) and then click a submit button. The code for the macro should look at a cell on sheet 1 which displays the primary key of the row in the table on sheet
2. Based on that primary key, it should look to sheet 2 and then insert the value into the table in the correct row and column. The column headings are the days of the week, and the specific day the user is concerned with is also displayed on sheet 1.
Sheet 1:
A1 = Day of the week A2 = Unique primary key A3 = user input value
Sheet 2: table Rows=primary key (001 - 999) Columns = days of the week (Monday - Friday)
example: user inputs '5' on sheet 1 with 'Tuesday' and '007' selected in their respective cells. I would then like 5 to be copied to B7 (row 7 for 007 and column B for Tuesday).
I have managed to write a macro that almost does what I require, but it inserts the copied row at the end and I want it to insert before the row it's just copied. Any ideas how I can modify the code to do this?
I have a List of Different Fruits in Cells A1 to A5
Apple Banana Orange Strawberry Cherry
And I use data validation list in 5 different cells from Cells C1 to C5 then in every cell the list will show all the fruits,
But I want that if I select Any Fruit in cell C1 that should not be included in the remaining 4 cells, and the fruits selected in Cells C1 and Cell C2 should not be included in the remaining 3 cells and so on....
I Used the formula
=IF(C1=A1,OFFSET(A2,,,COUNTA($A$2:$A$5),1),0)
But this works fine if I select Apple in the Cell C1, then the List of C2 Shows all Fruits other than Apple, But if in Cell C1 I select any fruit other than Apple it does not work... (Using Excel2007 & Win XP)
I'm trying to create a formula similar to this: =sum(B7:B & 8*A2+3). What I want the formula to do is start in B7 and go to B###. The cell number is based on user input. So if the user enters "24" in cell A2, then 8*24 = 192, 192 + 3 = 195, so the formula would be: =sum(B7:B195). Can I do this in a cell, or do I need to run it in a macro?
