Excel 2007 :: Dropdown Lists Not Deleting Even After Removing Data Validation?
Jun 20, 2014
I am having trouble delete a drop down list inspite of selecting clear all from the data validation tab in excel 2007. When I hit Alt + Down Arrow, I still see picklist options. I didnt set up the spreadsheet, hence I am not sure how to begin troubleshooting.
I'm using Excel 2007 and am trying to set up 3 columns of drop-down lists each dependent on the choice selected in the previous column's selection. It seems like it would be easy to figure out but I can't seem to do it.
I've already set up the arrays for the lists and "named" them but can't get the cell to be formatted automatically according to the previous columns selection.
I'm trying to create a cell with multiple dropdown lists in E4 depending on a value from another drop down list in B4. Both E4 dropdown lists are named cell ranges RV_MECHANISM and VALVE_OPERATING_MECHANISM_TYPE. I know how to do this in Data Validation using an IF formula, however, that's not quite "bullet proof" or "idiot proof" enough.
I'm attempting to create a macro to load only the appropriate dropdown list in E4 as called for by B4.
I recorded the Data Validation dropdown lists using the macro recorder, then searched through all appropriate posts I could find at MrExcel and attempted to write the appropriate macro code as follows;
Sub RVorMECHTYPE() With Selection.Validation .Delete .Add Type:=xlValidateList If Range("$B$4").Value = "RV" Then ValList.RV_MECHANISM Else ValList.VALVE_OPERATING_MECHANISM_TYPE End With
End If End Sub
Compile error: End With without With
That's as close as I can get ... can one of you kind souls direct my macro coding paths and offer up the correct code for accomplishing this task.
I have an Excel file with two different visible sheets (dashboards), each with different types of charts, which are pulling from the same data tables on a hidden sheet. I have a data validation drop down list on one of the dashboard sheets, which lists 7 items. Once one of the 7 item is selected, both dashboards update, which is what I want. However, I'd like to be able to have duplicated, related validation drop down lists. So if someone is looking at the first dashboard sheet and they select a new item, when they go to the second dashboard and see that same item, they could on that second dashboard select a new item without having to go back to the first dashboard.
I'd provide an example if I could, but cannot. I've tried searching on the forum for something similar, but most often the topic of dependent data validation is on two different types of drop downs with the second being dependent on the first, whereas I'm looking for two drop downs that are interconnected and can update in sync.
I have a dashboard with 2 validation dropdown lists - 1 for Brand name (text) and one for month (mmm-yy) which go and run various pivots, etc. This works perfectly - except the dropdown list is so small its unreadable.
So I've tried a workaround using Combo boxes which I found here:
This does work, but when I select a month on the 2nd Combo Box, it is then displayed in number format eg, 41699. I've tried changing the format to mmm-yy but it keeps displaying as a number.
I work as an alternative health practitioner and am making reference lists to use for working with various conditions. So far I've been using MS word and manually typing out everything into lists, but since that document is becoming hugely ungainly to work with (60+ double columned pages) I thought maybe there is an easier way to do this?
So my question is, can I use excel (or another program?) to do these things? And how would I go about doing them?
"Tag" various procedures with symptoms to alleviate. For example, can I tag Scalene trigger points (technique) with the symptoms brachial neuritis, extremity numbness, neck pain, elbow pain, wrist pain, shoulder pain, upper back pain, etc (some techniques will need 25+ symptom tags). Because of the large amount of "tags" I'll need to add, being able to quickly add them (for example, maybe typing them all in one cell separated by commas) is crucial Sort the data by symptom i.e "neck pain" and have all techniques tagged with "neck pain" show up in list form. Transfer all the data I already have sorted into the excel spreadsheet - for example I have a list of 100+ techniques for "neck pain", so I would need to be able to paste that list into excel and tag it with "neck pain" so it would show up along with anything added in excel. Be able to copy/paste the compiled list of techniques for each symptom into a document that I can print out and use as a reference at work. So for instance, be able to search "neck pain" copy the list of techniques for neck pain without including any extraneous data (such as all the tags) and paste it into ms word as text, not a table.
I have been working on a template using validation tool so as to create drop down lists. Now I have to select data from a combination of two fields.
Example: I need info from Dataset A and Dataset B to create a new drop down list from Dataset C.
I tried with If AND formula =IF(AND(B4="Test";B6="de10");"ok";"no") where due to the selected values I got Ok as a return answer. However I need to have a dropdown list of relevant values selected and I am having some issues.
When I name my group (Dataset C) as DE10 so that it can be linked to DE10 value (dataset B) so that I can do a validation then I get an error as DE10 is an excel field name; therefore I thought of the IF AND solution as I was thinking of doing so that I can name Dataset C as XYZ (instead of DE10) on the data sheet however I am having some trouble in getting the drop down list to work.
Basically I need a drop down list from dataset C when certain info is picked from Dataset A and Dataset B.
I am currently working on spreadsheet which is using a mix of Conditional Formatting, Validation and a bit of VBA code.
The spreadsheet is a log of vacancies and applicants, When "vacancy" is selected in A I have introduced some VBA code to lock down cells S:AT on the same row.
The code is working but the issue is it is stopping you using the drop down validation throughout the sheet, if you click the arrow that appears on the cell nothing happens, However you can still access the dropdown by right clicking and choosing the 'Pick from Drop-Down List' Menu Item.
The validation is set up by ranges from another Worksheet.
The Code I am using is:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange1(ByVal Target As Range) Dim myrow Dim StarLock, EnLock
I'm using Microsoft Excel for Mac 2011. I'm creating a drop down box from List within Data Validation. It's only letting my create a list of 17 names. My longest list is 63 names. What do I need to do to create a list that will support that?
Problem: We have some rather large excel spreadsheets (142,000 rows, 190 columns) and some users that need to delete the data from rows of cells 5,000 rows + at a time. When doing this machines jump in CPU, Excel goes "not responding" and on average comes back to life 1 minute 45 seconds after pressing the delete key.
Note: We are not doing a right click and deleting the rows. This is a highlight of the 5000 rows and pressing the delete keyboard key to clear the data.
We've tried disabling the Auto Save and the Workbook Calculation changed to Manual.
Dell is no help, Microsoft is no help. This process can be replicated on multiple Dell machines and with Operating Systems of XP SP2, SP3 and Vista, machines with single drives, raided systems and even a machine with a solid state drive. All have 2GB of RAM or more.
I have a spreadsheet which monitors the hours employees work - one of the rules is that an employee must have 12 hours rest between shifts...
I am using the below Data Validation formula in column I to highlight when an employee has less than 12 hours rest and an alert to appear
Now this works perfectly with the exception of when an employee finishes at say, 18:00hrs on a Friday, and starts at 22:00hrs on a Saturday - Excel Calculates the Rest hours as 04:00, when it should be 28:00
I've had a suggestion to use the following:
(I2 being the saturday date, A2 being the Friday date) - this does work but only for Cell I4, If I copy the Data Validation down the column all cell references change - is there a way to keep the I2 and A2 in the formula without having to retype in every row?
Using Excel 2010, I set up a simple workbook with a spreadsheet on one page and the ranges for data validation on another. I successfully linked the fields in the "Category" and "Tender" columns with the data on the second sheet, making nice drop down menus. Everything works fine on my computer. However, when we open the workbook on a different station, the drop down menus disappear. If you highlight any of the "Category" or "Tender" fields, the little drop down prompt is missing; they behave like regular, un-formatted fields. It appears that the data validation became un-linked.
We tried opening versions with certain fields locked (Mainly the Total, Breakdown, and Summary areas, but the fields with data validation were still editable), and also completely unlocked documents. Every time, the drop down lists were lost when opened on different stations.
I've attached the completely unlocked version : 00_FLEX TRAVEL EXPENSE REPORT_v3.xlsx
Forget to check a box or something? This seems way harder for me to figure out that it should be!
I am wanting to create a validation rule so when two cells are added the together the answer must be less than or equal to 14:00 - otherwise a message box will appear
So for example if H7+I7 gives an answer of 13:00 in J7, that's OK, but if the answer is 15:00, the error box will appear. I know that data validation doesnt work on a cell that already has a formula so I'm hoping to use K7 for the Validation and then hide the column
What I have attached is spreadsheet I've built to quickly generate an army list for a tabletop game. Anyone can click on the Force Organization Slot (FOS) and choose the type of unit and from there, select the specific unit name attached to that FOS. Each individual unit has a list of options/upgrades currently attached to the sheet from cells AD through AX and the points cost listed next to each upgrade.
For example, when selecting the Rhino unit from the Dedicated_Transport FOS, there should be 4 drop down lists of selectable upgrades (Storm Bolter, Hunter-Killer Missile, Dozer Blade, and Extra Armor). Currently, I have only named the ranges for the Rhino and Razorback units in order to get this working properly without having to go through the entire list of units and change names/create ranges/ect.
What I'm aiming to do is to create an individual drop down list that is directly related to the Unit Name cell in order to populate a complete and selectable upgrade list for each unit. I have played around with some functions that work in the spreadsheet (see cells X10:X12) but do not work properly with Data Validation.
Oddly enough, when I enter this formula under Data Validation:
I have a VBA macro for Excel 2007 below that loops through a workbook and deletes a picture (shape) in a range at the top of each worksheet.
The macro works fine until a cell which contains a seemingly unrelated data validation list on Sheets(1) is changed. The macro then repeatedly trips up with a 'Run-time error 1004 - Application defined or object defined error'.
The cell with the data validation is outside of the range in which the shapes are deleted and does not set any of the variables in the macro.
Sub DeleteLogos() Dim Count As Integer Dim NumberOfWorksheets As Integer Dim Logo As Shape Dim LogoZone As Range NumberOfWorksheets = Worksheets.Count For Count = 1 To NumberOfWorksheets With Sheets(Count)
In the spreadsheet shown below I would like the user to select a project via a dropdown list in cell B2 which is from the data set shown in row 7 downwards. Then based on the project they select, they need to be able to see all of the locations associated with that project and choose in B3. Finally they then need to be able to select a team which is associated with the project & location combination chosen in cells B2 and B3.
I am attempting to put a drop down list using "Data Validation". I can get it working when my list is on the same sheet (sheet 1) and the column of cells I want the drop down list to show up in....(you know..when the drop down list shows up in each individual cell)......BUT...when I put the list on another sheet (sheet 2) and try to do the "Data Validation" back on sheet 1, excel won't let me go highlight the list on sheet 2.
I even tried writing sheet2 and the range and that still doesnt work.
I have a worksheet with several data validation dropdowns that each link to a series of hyperlinks. When you click the dropdown and select the hyperlink, it opens up that particular file. All of these work, except for one of the dropdowns. Even though I can see and select the names, the link is NOT activated.
Is there some obscure excel feature that I am not aware of that is preventing this one from working? Why would this be?
I would like to know if it's possible to populate a data validation list based on what is selected from 4 validation lists?
for example: On sheet1: If 'Group1' is selected from data validation list1 then data validation list5 will show a list of all items from Group1. If 'Group2' is selected from data validation list2, then data validation list5 will display all the items in 'Group2'...
I am working on a spreadsheet for my Building company. I'm building a tool to price for Fascia, Soffits and Cladding.
I'm using Macbook Pro Microsoft Office for Mac 2011
Please see attached file
The first sheet holds all the lists of products, Category Headings list is in column A and then all the relevant products and prices are then from B to BI. I have defined each category with a name by selecting the cells and entering a name in the name box.
The second sheet is a Calculator in which I would like a to have a drop down list in the Category Column (Which I have worked out how to do myself - good old google) and then a drop down list in the second column which lets the user select from a list of results based on the selection from the previous column.
Example: Category(B3) - 18mm Fascia/Replacement Board (Square White) - Drop down menu taken from sheet 1 A3:A33 Description (C3) - Drop down list containing all the options from D2:D15 Named "FasciaReplacementBoard18mmWhite"
So basically, whatever the user selects in Column B (from the category list) a drop down list would be available in Column C
The Value column would then show a value based on the options selected.
Basically, I have an excel spreadsheet with different valued items for example,
TV Essential l £15 TV Essential extra l £20
Broadband Essential l £ 8 Broadband Extra l £12
I have options for TV, Broadband and Phone. At the bottom of the spreadsheet I want three drop down lists to pick what TV, Broadband and Phone package I want. For example: TV Essential, Broadband Extra and Phone Weekend. I can create the lists but I was wondering if there was anyway where, as you select the option on each of the lists, a running total will be created. So when TV Essential is selected £15 is added to a cell, say F20. Then when Broadband Extra is selected another £12 is added to cell F20. And as you select different ones in each list the total in F20 changes.
We have a proposal generation tool that we use that is based in Excel, and it works very well indeed. However, we're wanting to add a 'Custom Contract Generator' tab to the spreadsheet, and I'm at a loss with how to build it.
What it needs to do is :
- Allow the end user to select which contract clauses are required for the proposal they are working on, ideally via a range of dropdown boxes.
- Use that selection of clauses via dropdown box to create a compiled, formatted text list made up of those clauses.
- Enter that information into a landscape orientation Excel tab in such a manner as allows for tidy, business-suitable printing.
In short, I want the ability to pick what clauses we want to use, and have Excel generate a custom contract Terms and Conditions page based on my selection. And I've no idea where to start.
Can someone look at the sheet sample? I am trying to turn duplicates into a zero like Ive done in record 1 so that the same tax bill is not counted twice. The records are in rows and if I do a transpose and try to do it by hand it will take forever cause I have hundreds of records.
I'm working with a very large spreadsheet which has somehow divided itself into print areas. Each section has 'Page 1' or the equivalent as a background, behind the data itself. I thought it would be simple to remove this, but for the life of me I can't see how. I'm using Excel 2007.
