Excel 2010 :: Insert Page Breaks Automatically In Blank Rows?
Jun 14, 2014
We have a schedule that creates an Excel file which separates each order by blank rows. I need each order to be separated by a page break, so each order prints on a separate sheet.
Each order entry is 1 or 2 rows
Using Excel 2010/2013 although the file produced is an xls file.
Columns A to J are populated
Rows 1 & 2 are the header
I have tried a macro that involves me doing a countif and counting entries in the row, and if they add to 10 it inserts a page break, but its bit long winded and only seemed to work once.

I have a sheet that data is imported into that is normally no more than 300 rows. I need to insert 2 blank rows after each page break. My problem is the row height is not always the same when the data is imported. How to insert 2 blank rows after each page break using a macro.

I have a user here at my company that is having a strange issue with Excel. When she moves a page break in her document, Excel freezes up, then once it finally makes the change (if it doesn't crash), some (but not all) of the images that are in the document resize to super small.
For instance, she may have 50 rows. Each row contains a column with an image, then a few other columns with product information. Changing a page break may cause ten of the images to become tiny for no apparent reason. Resetting page breaks seems to cause the document to explode, with cells being thrown all over the page into different locations and columns becoming uneven.
When I make the same change on the same document on my system (both using similar specs and Office 2010), this does not happen.

Note: Split from: VBA to insert page breaks at a blank with varying blck size
I would like my macro to add empty lines to each pages not completely filled. (you know when it removes a block from a page, there's always some free space at the bottom of that page) Is it possible to add blank row (from a certain template on another sheet that I have) until it's full?

I have a spreadsheet that is 7 columns wide and contains blocks of data. The data blocks vary in size typically between 3 and 12 rows. Between each block of data is a blank row (there are no blank rows within the data blocks). There may be up to 500 rows in the spreadsheet consisting of maybe 30 varying size blocks of data.
I am attempting to produce a Macro that will insert page breaks into the spreadsheet, the requirement being that non of the blocks of data are split across two pages. I would need to be able to input the available number of rows per page (to allow for headers and footers), the Macro would then need to count down that many rows, find the last blank line before that point and insert a page break. It would then need to count from the position of the inserted page break to determine where to place the next page break etc.

My office recently upgraded to Office 2010 and we would like (in the accounting department that I work in) to change the default number formating in a blank sheet to Number, 0 Decimals, using seperators, from the current default of general format number.
I have looked for the Book.xltx file to replace but can't see it any where.

I want to achieve is a procedure that inserts horizontal page breaks at certain parts of the sheet where there is a cell equal to 2. Here is the code I have so far.
Sub insert_pagebreak()
Dim printbreak_cell As Range
Dim j As Long
Dim i As Long
ActiveSheet.ResetAllPageBreaks
Set printbreak_cell = Range("AD1")
j = 1
For i = 1 To 100
If printbreak_cell.Value = 2 Then
Set ActiveSheet.HPageBreaks(j).Location = printbreak_cell
j = j + 1
End If
Set printbreak_cell = printbreak_cell.Offset(1, 0)
Next i
End Sub
Everything works until the cell value reaches a 2, and then once it goes into the If statement I get a 'Application-defined or object-defined error' at the below line.
Set ActiveSheet.HPageBreaks(j).Location = printbreak_cell.............

I run a report that has several blocks of information with blank rows separating them. The blocks change from time to time and across pages so they are not always in the exact same rows.
I'd like a macro that can insert page breaks around a certain number of rows (say 60), but not insert one between two rows that have any content. If the page break would fall between two filled rows I'd want it to go to the nearest blank row instead.
The pages would be about the same size but the blocks of information would not be broken up. That's my idea, anayway. I don't know VB so I can't be sure it's even possible.
Provided this is possible, I'd greatly appreciate the help, as would all the other people in my organization who have to do this on a daily basis.

I have a sheet with a few hundred rows of data which I filter out by using a very simple autofilter. I have set page breaks throughout the whole sheet on certain rows I need to start on a new page. If the auto filter filters out any of these rows when it prints it prints a blank page where that row would have been before it was hidden by the autofilter.
For example the whole list is say 5 pages (set with page breaks) I apply an auto filter that now reduces it down to 2 pages say the 1st and last page of the original list. If I page break preview it, it shows me that it will be 2 pages but when i print preview/print the sheet it prints the 1st page then 3 blank pages then page 5 even know that the page break preview only shows and numbers 2 pages. Because the original page breaks are still there just are hidden by the autofilter so it adds them in as blank pages

Is it possible to use the resize function in Excel VB to select all rows that are between 2 page breaks.
I have a worksheet with several pages of data. Each page is separated by a page break at the top and bottom of the range, each page can consist of any number of rows from 20 to 50. I need to look for a specific criteria in column A in each of these pages. If the criteria is met, then I need to delete that page.
For example, if the cell where the criteria is met is A50, in page 2, and the page break above this is at row 45, and the one below is at row 55, then delete rows 45 to 55
I have the code that finds the criteria in column A. I tried to use the offset and resize functions but as there isnt always a consistent number of rows involved this didnt work
If this isnt possible, can you refer to page numbers in excel, so if the criteria is found in pages 4, 7 and 10 of the data then these pages are deleted?

I want to add a button on my Worksheet that will basically copy the last portion of the sheet (about 40 lines) and insert it at the bottom of the sheet (above the button). Each time the button is clicked, the last 40 lines will be copied and pasted. The script also sets the page break to the appropriate line. To achieve this, I've set up a hidden sheet that contains the line numbers and last page number. The script accrues these numbers every time the script runs.
I realise there may be a better way to do this, but at this point I'm trying to stick to what I know. I'm trying to use the function Row().Select, and I keep getting an Error 13. Example of my
Sub AddPageTest()
Sheets("SetPoint").Select
Dim CopyRows As String
CopyRows = Range("C13").Select
Dim InsertRow As String
InsertRow = Range("C14").Select
Dim SelRange As String
SelRange = Range("C12").Select
Dim LastPageNum As Integer
LastPageNum = Range("C5").Select
Dim NewLastPageNum As Integer
NewLastPageNum = LastPageNum + 1
Dim LastPageBreak As String
LastPageBreak = Range("C15").Select
Dim NextPageFirstRow As Integer
NextPageFirstRow = Range("C4").Select + 1...................

Each week I format a report that I receive that lists every product a particular employee closed. Its a list of each employee, the product and date. I'll have about 20-30 lines for each employee. I can easily sort by the employee name to have a nice list.
From here what I do is use a forumla to mark where each employee's name changes, then filter by that changed line and insert page breaks for each of these lines. Is there a way to macro this to save me time, having 270 employees takes alot of time still, because thats 270 manually inserted page breaks.

I have 5 worksheets that I currently have to add information to and cut/paste information from one to another. The initial information stays the same but I have to cut and paste it into one of the other worksheets based on wether or not we; need to decide on a job, are working on the job, lost the job, won the job or the job is complete.
I would like to create one master worksheet where the information can be entered with a drop down cell stating the status of the job (listed above). I created the master tab and linked the 5 subordinate tabs using an IF formula, but how can the subordinate tabs filter or sort the references and organize them on the top of the page rather than leaving a bunch of blank rows (because the info in these blank rows went to a different subordinate tab)? I want to enter the info in the master tab and simply change the pull down cell to change which subordinate tab the information shows up on. This should allow me to print the subordinate tabs as reports without having to manually cut and paste the info or filter it, correct?

I am on office 2010
I am new to VBA programming so i might be making a obvious mistake. I am trying to create a macro that will insert rows depending on a cell value. I also need this to be executed from a command button rather then to occur immediately after the cell value is entered. So as a example
Lets say
Cell A2 has a value 20
Cell A3 has a value 3
Cell A4 has a value 5
when this data is entered and then a Command button poressed there should be
20 rows beneath cell A2
3 rows beneath cell A3
5 rows beneath cell A4

We utilize large data sheets that can be as large as 300K in rows and 10 to 15 columns wide. Because of how we receive the data, we are forced to manipulate things so that all matching data for a record ends up on a single row. (e.g. Record#, Document Type, Husband Name, Wife Name, Wife Maiden Name, Etc.)
Right now here's how the data is received:
a
a
a
b
b
c
c
c
c
d
d
d
e
e
e
e
Using two vba scripts, we first separate the data with row spaces between the unique data as follows:
a
a
a
b
b
c
c
c
c
Then with another script, we transpose the data as follows:
a a a
b b
c c c c
d d d
e e e e
When we transpose the data, the end result starts at the top of the page and go down eliminating the original blank rows. Not a huge issue but I would like to be able to maintain the original data format of the rows so that the data matches the original sheet line for line. The end result would give me the data as follows...
a a a
b b
c c c c
d d d
e e e e e
where the vertical gaps between the letters matches the original rows. Like I said, not a huge issue since we can rejoin the transposed data to the original data fairly easily. But it would be nice if we could end up with the above format for speed sake.
The two scripts we use, one-to insert the rows and two-to transpose, take a very long time to run with the transpose script taking the longest by far. On a 30K row sheet, it will take on our systems around 30 minutes to transpose and about 15 minutes to insert rows. Because we have several columns that need to be transposed, a 30K row sheet will take at least 2 hours to complete. A 300K row sheet, that will take 10 to 15 hours to complete.
Is there any way to speed up the scripts either by upgrading to a faster CPU and or writing the scripts to preform faster?
My preferred solution would be to write (have) a formula to preform the transposition that gives me the results as noted above since formula's run so much faster than vba. Is this possible? I have tried all kinds of formulas and can not come close and of course the straight transpose function does not give me the solution I need as noted above.
I have enclosed an excel 2010 spreadsheet with 10K rows of data in rows along with the scripts I use (nothing sensitive here). The tabs at the bottom shows you the data before I transpose, then the data after it has been transposed . To speed up the scripts, I have stripped away the all the rest of the data from the original sheet except just what I need to transpose at one time. Once that is completed, we then re-join the transposed data with the original sheet. The six digit number you see to the far left of the data is the record ID number from the original data. We use this to rejoin the transposed data with the original data so that we know everything is back where it should be. (Note: The insert rows script is run on the original data and not the data you see on the enclosed spreadsheet. That is the only way we can generate unique rows with matching ID numbers. We arrive at this by taking the original data, concatenate the record ID with the column we want to transpose and add a # between the two so that we can break things back apart after the transposition using the text to column function using the # as the separator.)
The sheet I have attached is in the 2010 Macro Enabled format...(xlsm format). We use the xlsb (binary) format for the data to reduce the file size as our normal procedure and run the macros from inside that format. Changing from the xlsx to xlsb format did seem to speed up the scripts a bit and greatly improved the file performance as a whole e.g. saving and loading.
One thing I have done to speed up the scripts is to strip all the data away that is not needed for the transposition. That did work but only a marginal amount.
We are using windows 8.0 with 4G memory and your basic processor speed...e.g. nothing fancy.....just your basic stock computer. Nothing else unusual is installed or running on the computer or at the time the scripts are running.
For those of you that process large sheets, how much of a performance upgrade will we see in processing our scripts by either upgrading memory to 8G (or more or much more) and or getting a faster processor? Or have we reached the maximum script speed already? Or is this a limit to Excel.
One other issue to note: As I stated above, on the 30K row sheets, not a super problem with about 2 hours needed to run the scripts on all the data on the sheet. But on the 300K row sheets, it can take 12 or more hours to run and there are times when things 'lock up' running the scripts on sheets this size.

After importing a data set into the worksheet entitled "SPACE", I am trying to find the column entitled "Variability Cpu" and then for every cell in that column that has a value in it, I would like to insert a new row beneath that cell. I thought my code made sense, but I get the "Run-time error '424': Object required" error on the line in red below so apparently I'm missing something. why I'm getting this error (doesn't the object variable shtS refer to the worksheet object "SPACE"? Why is it saying object required?). Here's what I've got so far:

I want some code which will automatically insert a page break every time the data changes in a column. In column B- the data is structured as below;
DOG
<blank cell>
<blank cell>
DOG
<blank cell>
DOG
<blank cell>
<blank cell>
CAT
<blank cell>
CAT
<blank cell>
MOUSE
<blank cell>
MOUSE
MOUSE
<blank cell>
Etc
The code I want would insert the page break every time every time the data changed- but not where there is a blank cell. I hope this makes sense. I realise the blank cells complicate things- the blank cells separating the data cells are there because there is additional;data in columns C,D,E etc

I have a worksheet with 760 names on it. The first row are headers, 2nd row on is the data. I need to break the data up into 25 rows a piece, excluding the headers. I need to do two things in my Excel spreadsheet: 1) I want it to insert a blank row everytime a value in the 1st column changes. 2) In the blank lines, I want to do a COUNTA for each of columns G through N. If I can get the program to insert the blank rows...they will not be a set # of records apart...some will have 3 records & some might have 17 records. Is there a way to automatically cause #2 to happen instead of having to choose the function icon and then tell Excel the first and last cells in each range?
