I have two cells, A2 and B2. When I enter a numeric value into B2, I want it only allowed when certain text values are in A2. I.E.: Allow any value in B2, but only if A1 is either "SYDN or "ADEL".
Now using info found in an old post, I can achieve this with a combination of data validation and code: =OR(A2="SYDN",A2="ADEL") for the validation and for the code:
[Code] ......
The only problem is I also need to reset B2 if A2 changes to invalid data as a result of some other input to that cell (A2). In other words if B2 is showing "1" already and A2 were to change from "SYDN" to say "LOND", then B2 needs to be cleared. If A2 changed to "ADEL" then it doesn't need to clear but it is ok if it does because it is fine to re-enter "1" into B2 again.
I have attempted to attach a sample worksheet : Xl0000003.xls‎
Cell A1 is calculated by entering a number in cell E1[COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important][/COLOR][/COLOR]. Due to the various formulas used, when cell E1 goes up, the value in cell A1 goes down (and vice-versa - When E1 goes down, value in A1 goes up). Cell D1 is calculated using formulas UNASSOCIATED with A1 or E1.
I can't enter a formula for cell E1 to do the calculating due to the circular reference created.
I need some type of code that will automatically figure out what number needs to be in cell E1 to make cell A1 equal Cell D1 without creating the circular reference.
I have a situation where I need a macro to reference another cell in the sheet if the cell is left blank. If the user wants to edit the value, they have the option to manually input a value but if they decide to leave it blank, it autopopulates the referenced cell.
Is there a way to limit say a value to be inputted into a cell say between 1 and 10, and to have a warning message pop up if any other values are keyed into that particular cell?
I have two cells, A1 = Yes/No and B1 = Date. I want to restrict someone inputting a date into B1 until A1 is marked as Yes...? I've tried data validation, but seem to be hitting a wall with it...
I am trying to do with data validation, trying to stay away from vba on this... and it is probably very simple:
Cell A1, they can select Rice, Cheese, or Rabbit I want to use custom data validation on B1, so that if A1 = Rabbit, they can only enter 1. If it is blank or the other two choices, they can enter 1 through 10.
Can I do that with data validation? I can't get any if thens to work in it.
I want to restrict user from entering alphabets like I,O,Q and S in a cell. Can we do this using data validation or any formula because I don't wan't to use drop-down list or refer to values in other cells either.
I am looking for a forumla, which I think will be an If forumla, to allow/block entry into a cell depending on what is entered in another cell.
So if "Yes" is entered into cell 1, I want cell 2 to show "N/A", and if "No" is entered in cell 1 I want the user to be able to enter data into cell 2.
I have two coloumns on a worksheet. In the first column I have data validation drop down list. I want to be able to: if the first column "Other" is chosen then the next cell will allow text for description, if anything other is chosen in the first drop down list cell then I want the next ( text for descritption ) cell to be resticted.
I would like to use a combobox and I want to force the user to selected one item from the list, and not to be able to type anything in it.
My other solution would be to use a listbox but I like the combobox design better...
I found this code in a MSDN Forum but somehow, it does not seem to work. Maybe it is because I do not know what to do with a "public class", or my Excel 97 does not support this. I tried pasting the "private sub" in a sheet code (where my combobox is), but it did not work.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub ComboBox1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) _
Handles ComboBox1.KeyPress
e.Handled = True
End Sub
Is this code actually working under excel 97 and if so, where do I have to put it?
I am relatively new to Excel. I have figured out how to use named ranges as lists and use INDIRECT Data Validation to have a list's selection made in one cell populate a new list in an adjacent cell.
A1 contains a list of "Characters" (The choices are "Numbers", "Letters", or "Other")
Based on the choice in A1, B1 has to populate with the following:
- A list of available Numbers to chose from (1,2,3..etc) - A list of available Letters to chose from ( A,B,C...etc) - Text that instructs the user to enter text into the cell manually
(For example, their "Other" character might be something like "@#$%^&*!". (Not unlike my mental state trying to figure out this problem.) I want them to see the instruction to "ENTER CHARACTERS HERE" and then be able to type in the cell.
So I need B1 to either populate with a menu that is dependent on the menu selection in A1, or allow for free text entry depending on if they chose the "other" option in A1.
how to protect my spreadsheet from data entry errors.
I have a column of data that must be entered manually (column B). Sometimes, the entry in column B could have been calculated by running a formula run upon the data in column A. Sometimes it has to be entered manually.
Is there a way to use data validation or conditional formatting to make sure that the proper figure is entered into column B when it could have been calculated by a formula to avoid data errors?
I have a macro that transfer data from one sheet to another (I have sheets called Form and Sent). Basically, the users enters data in the Form Sheet. After they're done, the data gets transferred to the Sent Sheet. I don't want users to be able to modify the data in the Sent sheet. I just want them to see the records. Also, i want the sheet protected from having users manually inputting datas. I can't accomplish this when I protect the sheet, since it is giving me an error while running the macro to transfer data. Is there a workaround?
Above is the formula I am working with. I am inserting it into row 4 thru row 996 in a number of different columns. The auto fill function works great for this part of the formula….
However, this part Z29:Z39 I have to enter manually row by row until I can figure out a better way. Do you know an easier way?
To put this formula… =IF(OR(J4="",K4=""),"",NETWORKDAYS(J4,K4,Holidays!Z29:Z39)-1) Into any column row 4 thru row 996, without having to change Z29:Z39 for every row, since I cannot rely on autofill?
I have a userform with 8 text boxes and users have to enter different numbers separated by commas like 1,5,6,15,28 and so on.
I want to put a validation that if a number is entered in any of the textboxes than the same shall not be allowed in any other textboxes. Even in the same text box, no duplicate number shall be allowed. ie if in a textbox 1,2,15 is entered , then in the same textbox also, user cannot enter 1 or 2 or 15 again.
I am trying to restrict a cell to only be able to input the letter "i" multiple times, almost like a tally sheet, in other words I want the cell to be restriced to one letter, but allow that letter to be entered multiple times.
I'm trying to write a macro that will not allow a number to be zero. I have a macro that references a cell that if it is input to zero will create a loop that goes on forever. The thing is this cell will never have to be zero, so is there a way that I can write a macro that if this cell is zero, it gets reset to its previous value?
I am trying to find out whether you can restrict the rest of the userform from being available, unless a certain field is entered.
I have a tax invoice userform, I want to restrict the user from entering any other data unless they have selected a customer.
There are other fields such as Customer Address, Customer Number, Disc% and Terms that populate through vlookup code once the customer is selected, so still need that to work once the customer is selected. I just don't want them to be able to enter any other data on the userform without the customer being selected.
I wasn't sure whether I needed to enter code into every other textbox or combo box that if cboCustomer = "" then pop up an error message, but that would require a lot of code to be entered. I have 30 comboboxes and 53 Textboxes that I want to restrict to not being available unless a customer is selected from combobox.
How can I restrict the user from entering anything other than the date and the proper format required for this input box? I am having a tough time figuring out how to check the input for the right date and format . .
Sub EffDate() Dim a As Variant
a = InputBox("Enter the effective date" & _ " of the subject's lease using a 2 digit day," & _ " a 2 digit month and a 4 digit year" & _ " (dd/mm/yyyy).", "C/NC Analysis")
I'm using Excel 2010, and I need to restrict the value the user can enter into a cell (E9).
In cell E3 is the screen width (pixels). eg 6024 In cell E5 is the preferred width of a window. eg 450
The user, in cell E9, enters an x coordinate for which they prefer the top left corner of the window whose width is specified in E5.
If the value that the user enters in E9, added to the width entered in E5, exceeds the value of E3, (if E9+E5 > E3) then the value should be disregarded (window will be off right of screen) and the user re-enter.
I'm not familiar with the use of data validation, so I'm uncertain as to how to use it in this circumstance.
I'm having a problem with data validation. I set an entire column so that it could only be a date between the first date in the list and the current date. I tested a few cells to make sure that it was working the way I wanted and I noticed that it allows a random number like 3 or 5 to be input after row 50. This would create a date in the 1900s. Why is this happening and how can I stop it.
