I am working in both 2003 and 2007 Excel.
This is a simplified version of my worksheet:
I have two cells, A2 and B2. When I enter a numeric value into B2, I want it only allowed when certain text values are in A2. I.E.: Allow any value in B2, but only if A1 is either "SYDN or "ADEL".
Now using info found in an old post, I can achieve this with a combination of data validation and code:
=OR(A2="SYDN",A2="ADEL") for the validation and for the code:
[Code] ......
The only problem is I also need to reset B2 if A2 changes to invalid data as a result of some other input to that cell (A2). In other words if B2 is showing "1" already and A2 were to change from "SYDN" to say "LOND", then B2 needs to be cleared. If A2 changed to "ADEL" then it doesn't need to clear but it is ok if it does because it is fine to re-enter "1" into B2 again.

I want to be able to: if the first column "Other" is chosen then the next cell will allow text for description, if anything other is chosen in the first drop down list cell then I want the next ( text for descritption ) cell to be resticted.

Depending on the number entered on sheet1 column B, the Macro duplicates the info from Column A in that row into column A on sheet2. ??

I then have a data table that has month 1,2,3,4,5 running across range G9:K9. the data is held in range G10:K19.
So if user types in 4 in B2, what should happen is that months 1,2,3 and 4 the data for these months should be cleared and data in month 5 moves forward into month 1.
So basically, anything left of the month entered is B2 should be cleared and replaced with anything right of the month in B2.

I'm am trying to restrict the length of data that can be entered into a cell based on a drop down in that row. I have achieved this, but what I need to be able to do is use data validation to restrict the cell length to one of two values - so for example the length can only be 6 OR 9 characters long.
I cant see how to do this. At present the best I can do is rectrict to between 6 and 9 - but this would allow 7 and 8 which is not allowed.
I have a spreadsheet with 5 columns. A1 to A5
Entries are made into columns A2 to A5 but only ever one entry across all cells
If an entry is made into A2 to A5 the I need a "P" to be placed into A1
I would like to know if it is possible to transfer values of cells this way?

I new for a forum I have a small problem I just stock and can´t see what to do. So i need to move data from 4 columns B,C,D,E to F,G,H,I depending on input in column J, like if in J2 i enter letted M (or any from column A) i need to move data from B12,C13,D13,E13 to F2,G2,H2,I2 and so on. I would like to be able to enter the businesses operating hours on the "overview sheet" and, based on those hours, have a table generated on another sheet that "autofills" based on the date entered on the "overview sheet". Have a spreadsheet shows 4000 warehouse locations (location of products). Each cell is a location in the warehouse (ba050, ca809, etc, actual warehouse locations, not grid ref); some products have more than one location, the locations are always next to each other. I import a text file into the workbook which tells me which product has more than one location (2, 10, 50, etc), that’s all I’m interested in ( multiple locations).
What I’ve done so far is to use vlookup to look at locations in file and allocated the number (the number of locations that product has) next (next column) to the cell that correspond to that location. What I need is a macro or formula that will look at the number and than highlight that many cells up or down the column, according to the number in the cell to the right (5 in cell, highlight 5 cells, 50 highlights 50). The warehouse runs up one aisle and then down the next and so on. So I need to be able to highlight cells up one column and then down the next and then up, then down and so on.
Multiple locations change on a daily bases, so need a quick way of updating 4000 locations.
New to excel don’t know if this is possible or not. Learning as I go.
Need some assistance.

I'd like to lock some cells depending on what is put in a particular cell. As shown by the file attached, if the first column (Amendments) has a "no" in A4, I'd like to lock out cells B4:D4. (The sheet will be protected). If it's a "yes" then the cells are unlocked. I'd like to then apply this to all subsequent rows (i.e. lock B5:D5 if a "no" in A5 etc.)

The values in row A can only be selected from a named range drop down. If no entry is there (i.e. blank) then i'd ideally like the cells to return from black to white.
i need to change the colour of 4 cells depending on the one cell.
i have found some vba codes on the net but they are all based on numbers and i need it on text.
so if a1 ="alert" make A1 to A4 red
if a1="passed" make a1 to a4 green... and so on
i cant used conitional formatting as i need more than 3 colours
