Excel Macro That Prompts To Choose File To Hyperlink
Jun 12, 2014
I would like to write a macro that would insert a hyperlink to another file an would prompt the user to select the location of the file once the macro was run. I am not sure how I would get my macro to prompt the user to define the location (which is located on a network drive).

I am making a macro that requires that user to enter a directory path into a input box and the macro will open the file. Right now it works fine bit i would like to change the code so that instead of using an input box it brings up a box that will allow them to browse files on their computer and then select one to open.

In wrote a workbook in Excel 2003 that is causing me a problem I can not seem to figure out. The workbook consists of multiple worksheets that work using both VBA code or cell formulas. The worksheets are protected (though w/o a password) to prevent users from accidently altering a cell formula. When the code needs to write to a cell, it first unprotects the sheet, writes to the cell(s), and then reprotects the sheet.
Everything seems to work fine, often for several months. Then somehow something goes wrong. Specifically, after double-clicking on the ListBox in the worksheet “CRI Calculator” to pick a drug name, it will improperly present a dialog box (see attached screen capture 'Unprotect Sheet DialogBox.JPG') prompting the user for a password to unprotect the worksheet. Again, no password has ever been set; I have tried entering nothing, “password”, and "anonymous". Regardless of how you respond, an error code “Run-time error ‘1004’: The password you supplied is not correct…” occurs. If I press Debug, it takes me (ironically) to the following line of code

I have had this prior in Excel. The hyperlink works fine in Outlook, Word, and Access...

I Have a CheckBox Thats Linked with CA22
In Cell CB22 I have the Following Formula:
=IF(CA22=TRUE,"1","")
In Cell CC22 I Have...
=IF(CB22="1","RM-4E ADD1",HYPERLINK('RM-4E (Add - 1) (2)'!A1,"RM-4E ADD1"))
The Sheet namne its supposed to Hyperlink to is called
RM-4E (Add - 1) (2)
When the Check Box is Unchecked it Changes CA22 to False and Puts in CC22 Text: RM-4E ADD1
When the Check Box is Checked it CHanges CA22 to TRUE and is supposed to create a Hyperlink to that sheet...Only when i click it it comes back with
'Cannot open the specified file."
I even went as far as typing out the Word Hyperlink( clicked the sheet and selected Cell A1 on that sheet but it still comes back with the error!

How do I create a hyperlink in an Excel 2003 file that will open a PDF file with Reader?
I have an Excel file of hundreds of Customer names and invoice numbers. I have a directory of PDF files. The name of each PDF file is the customer name, a space, and the invoice number. I should be able to have a column in the Excel file that contains a formula that creates a hyperlink to open the corresponding PDF file.
I used the HYPERLINK function and built the path and file by concatenating information. When I click the hyperlink, I keep getting an Excel error: Cannot open the specified file.
Do you think this problem is something of my own doing or some "undocumented feature" in Excel?

I have an excel document which automatically runs a macro when it opens. The macro itself opens various excel documents, copies, Pastes and Deletes work sheets then saves the updated files in a new location. I simply used the Application. ScreenUpdating = False at the start of the macro and Application.ScreenUpdating = True at the end of the macro to hide all the various opening and closing and formatting of workbooks.
My aim is for the user to be able to open the document, wait a few moments while the macro runs, then be presented with the finished article when the macro ends without any need for interaction. The problem I am getting is as the macro runs, various windows pop up with messages such as "The file C:... already exists do you wish to replace the file" with a yes or no wchoice and "Data may exist in the sheet(s) selected for deletion. with a delete or cancel choice To Permanently delete the data press Delete". What I want to be able to do is stop these windows popping up and for the macro to go ahead with replacing the file or deleting the sheets without being manually told each time.

I am not new to excel - but I have never required the use of advanced excel features before today - so I apologize in advance. I am a health professional student (graduate level) assisting my preceptor in developing patient management mechanisms.
I am building an excel spreadsheet to manage current medications for several patients.
I have built the spreadsheet with the first 'sheet' being a directory and subsequent sheets being patient data files(one sheet per patient).
I am now in the process of creating a macro to build new patient data files (a new sheet for a new patient). I recorded a macro to build the new sheet with the proper formatting of information. What I am trying to do now is automate the naming and linking of the new sheet.
What I am really after is how can you create a "prompt" such that after activating the macro button it asks:
Patient last name:
Patient first name:
Then uses this data to:
1. Rename the newly made sheet to 'last, first'
2. Title the newly made sheet with 'last, first'
3. Create an entry in the directory in the 'last, first' format
4. Finally, build the hyperlink from the directory to the newly created sheet

One of the things it does throughout the course of the run is unprotect the worksheet, do what it needs to and then reprotects the sheet (using a password). On the second run, the sheet protection input box is shown and I am required to input the password before the code will execute.
The code that I have written uses an Add-in that pulls data from a database. As part of that retrieval, the other add-in protects the sheet without a password. Would that be causing my error?

I have created macros before, but it was a step by step, easy to follow, guide from out textbook. Now I have to create one on my own from these directions.
So my first task was to create a macro that went to a specific worksheet, and made A1 the active cell. I created that macro.
Now it comes to where I have to open the macro in Visual Basic Editor and I am completely lost. I know absolutely nothing about this. This is what it looks like now:
Sub Show_Report()
'
' Show_Report Macro
' Macro recorded 4/25/2007 by *******
'
' Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+w
'
Sheets("Jeff").Select
Range("A1").Select
End Sub
So now these are the next directions. "Edit the Show_Report macro in the VBE so that the macro prompts the user for the name of the report to view (indicating that the user should enter "Jeff", "Sally", "Jane", "Jim", and "Harry") and then displays that worksheet. (HINT: You should run the edited macro to make sure that it runs correctly.) Include an If-Then-Else control structure to detect an error if the user enters an incorrect report name. If an error occurs, the macro should display a message box informing the user of the error.
So what Im thinking is I need a code so what when I hit my macro hotkey, it opens up a pop-up box and then I get to type in a worksheet name and it takes me to that worksheet.

I have a workbook that has 2 worksheets. Sheet1 has a data table that is filled from an SQL database. I would like the first column of the data table to have each cell be a hyperlink. The destination of the hyperlink is Sheet2, cell A2. I would like to modify the hyperlink, so that when the user clicks on the hyperlink, the text-display of the hyperlink is copied into sheet2 cell A2. Initially, I thought this was simple. I added the event code shown below:
[Code] ........
This worked, however there was a problem. I manually added the hyperlink to all cells in column1 of sheet1. However, this made the TextToDisplay property the value of the first cell for all hyperlinks. So, solution to add hyperlinks to all cells in the first column, with TextToDisplay property set for each individual cell. What is the best way to do this with the fact that the number of rows in column1 will vary as the size of the SQL query changes?

The code snippet below is to import a sheet into my main template. Right now, the code looks for the file in the same directory as the template, if the file is not there, a message box pops up advising the user when OK is pressed (see red lines), the workbook closes. However, in order to make my program more user friendly, I would like to add some more functionality to the code, so I would like to have a windows file browser window pop up where the user can browse for the file and select it in whatever directory it is.
Can this window be created in VBA?
Sub ImportFile()
Dim sourceFile As String
Dim firstDestFile As String
sourceFile = "Client Data Dashboard Template.xlsm"

We have several salespeople who maintain a workbook tracking their workflow. I want to compile the customer account number, account name and deal number for each rep to another workbook. A new sourcebook is started each week. This code is in the target book
'Option Explicit
Public sourcebook As Object 'the workflow workbook
Sub GETDATA()
Dim wsc As Double 'the number of pages in the workflow
Dim col As Long 'the column in this workbook for returning values
Dim IntEndRow As Double 'the end row in this book
Dim SrcEndRow As Double 'the end row in workflow
Dim findval 'the column workflow where the sourcedata is found
My code allows the user to select a workbook and then loops through each sheet in that book searching for the column which has the info I need, this changes on each sheet as the reps each deal with different types of customer as so take different details. I solved this by having column headers in the target book and searching for them in the sourcebook.
This code works when I step through it but falls over at the "Set sourcebook" line when I run it where it returns a breakpoint error.

I am using vlookup functions to print out invoices from ONE invoice form. Each of my clients has been given an ID number. To print, I am using a code that goes through a dropdown list containing ID numbers of all my clients located in cell J3 and prints out only invoices of stores that placed an order (invoice where total in cell P14 is >0).
Here is the
Sub Print_Invoice()
Dim rCell As Range
With ActiveSheet 'change to relevant sheet name if you want to execute macro from another sheet
ForEach rCell In .Range("A2:A10")
.Range("J3").Value = rCell.Value: Calculate
If .Range("P14").Value > 0 Then .PrintOut
Next rCell
EndWith
EndSub
Because of specific requirements of some stores I had to create a SECOND invoice form especially designed for a few stores only. How can I change the code above so Excel will know which form should be used for which store? I am thinking about “playing” with ID numbers.
Please note that each store has a unique ID number from 100 to 999.
Route 1 includes stores with ID number from 101 to 199. Route 2 includes stores with ID number from 201 to 299, and so on…
Stores requiring the second type of invoice have been given an ID number from 180 to 199 (for route 1), from 280 to 299 (for route 2), and so on…

Private Sub cmdSave_Click()
SaveRow
On Error Goto ErrorHandler
ThisFile = Sheets("Data"). Range("B2").Value
ActiveWorkbook. SaveAs Filename:= _
"C:Documents and SettingsMy Documents" & ThisFile, FileFormat:= _
xlNormal, Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", ReadOnlyRecommended:=False _
, CreateBackup:=False
Workbooks.Close
ErrorHandler:
MsgBox ("Error locating file. " + Err.Description)
End Sub
This saves a workbook with the File Name based on a cell in a worksheet in the above Path Name.
Is there a way that I can change this code to ask for the Path Name with the File Name, from the worksheet, as a default.

Excel 2007 Q: I have a combo box (ActivX) that I want to be able to choose a a date from a range of dates in column A on sheet 'Working Copy'. I want a cell to update with the number/position of the date when the date is chosen i.e. the first date in the range yields 1 the second date yields 2 and so on. I also want the date to be displayed in dd-mmm-yyyy format. I am able to get the cell to give the correct position of the date but the date reverts to five digit number in combo box. I can change the code to return the correct date in the combo box when the date is chosen but then the cell just returns 0.
How can I make it so that the combo box returns the correct date and the cell updates with the position instead of jsut one or the other?
Here is the code I am using
Private Sub ComboBox1_Change()
ComboBox1.Value = Format(ComboBox1.Text, "dd-mmm-yyyy")
End Sub
or
Private Sub ComboBox1_Change()
Sheets("Working Copy").Range("G1").Value = ComboBox1.ListIndex + 1
End Sub

I am after some VBA code that chooses each value from a drop down list (in cell A1) then copies a separate sheet 1 (sheet 1) into another workbook (can have both workbooks open at the same time or the first step will have to create a workbook) with the name of the added sheet renamed to the value chosen from the list. When the second value is chosen then sheet 1 should be copied into the newly created workbook as well.
Sheet 1 has lookups that are updated when the new value in the drop down list is chosen
There are around 85 values in the drop down list so I'm expecting a workbook with 85 tabs (copy pasted values and formats)

I want to add hyperlinks to certain cells using drag and drop. I've got a userform with a toolbar that I use as a drop zone for files (called tbDrop). In the userform, below the dropzone is a label called "label2"
The dragging and dropping works as a charm, label2 shows me the file location and adds it as a hyperlink to the cell.
However, when I click the hyperlink the file can't be opened.
I've used the result string, added it manually as a hyperlink and recorded it. That worked, but i saw no difference in the recorded macro.
VB:
Private Sub tbDrop_OLEDragDrop(Data As MSComctlLib.DataObject, Effect As Long, Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, x As Single, y As Single)
Label2.Caption = ""
Dim a As String
