Find And Replace Based On Columns

Dec 27, 2006

Here is the problem: A1 contains : current model numbers, B and C contain new model numbers and corresponding old part numbers. Based on Column B and C I need it to go through and find all the old part numbers in column A and reaplce it with the new part numbers: Here is my table:

Current # NEW AFS# current #
10773650204020000216802606
10773652204022000116035305
10773653204023000115744805
10773654204023000215744806
10773657204023001215744881
10773658204023022715744844
10773659204024000115836205

For example, I need it to find all instances of "10773650" (first data in column A) and look in column C to find the corresponding number if it exists, if it does exist I need it to be replaced by the corresponding data in column B

Text To Columns - Find And Replace

Jun 20, 2013

I work at a club. I've got a spreadsheet sent to me from another club we do business with. On it are charges from their club to ours that list the charge and associated member number.

I'm trying to use the text to columns feature to separate the member number from the other data in the column so I can sort by member number making it easier for us to bill our members.

Here is a sample of the data:

"Beach Club Bar,b500"
"Beach Club Bar,s200"
"Beach Club Bar,a150"

When I try to use text to columns what happens using the comma as a deliminator, everything including and after the comma disappears.

Thinking that maybe I needed a space between the comma and the member number (in the first line b500 is the member number) I tried to use find and replace to replace , with , and a space after it. This also resulted in all of the data including and after the comma disappearing. I'm sure I'm missing something here.

I tried copying the data into a separate spreadsheet. Tried changing it to text or general.

I typed in the exact data as you see it and tried the text to column function and it worked perfectly. What could be hidden in the data in that column that's causing this?

Find Replace For Multiple Columns?

Oct 28, 2011

I have been put together some simple coding to find and replace a value (1) that i have obtained from a pivot table. My aim was to replace any "1" with the column header. The reason for this is that the cell(s) will be used in a VLookup at a late stage.

My problem is that I have the code to work for a single cell, but I want it to work for multiple columns so I don not have to create multiple macros.

I need to go from Column C to AW. I have a total row at the end - hence why I am using 'Step - 1'.

Code:
Sub FindReplace()
Dim i, lRow
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual

Excluding Certain Columns With Find And Replace

Mar 22, 2013

I am writing a macro that will find several different values in sheet1 and replace them with values from a table in sheet2. It currently does exactly that but I realized that there are instances when replacing hyphens isn't appropriate and will ruin the upload of my data. I need to replace it in the rest of the columns though. The headers will always be the same, such as "MST" , so I could use that as a conditional statement I just don't know how to go about it with the replace function.

Code:
Sub FindAndReplace()
Dim LastRow As Integer
Dim i As Integer 'Counter to loop through all the rows found in the table

'Finds the last row used in my replacement table and sets that as the searchable range

LastRow = Sheets("Sheet2").Cells.Find(What:="*", SearchOrder:=xlRows, SearchDirection:=xlPrevious,

[Code] ..........

Find & Replace In Hidden Rows Or Columns

Mar 19, 2008

I need to find, then replace a particular value ("/0"), however, some cells may be hidden. And I just discovered that I can not replace the value of a hidden cell! Am I missing something, or do I have to unhide the row/column that the cell is in and then replace it? ...this does not replace the "/0" with "0" if the row the cell is in is hidden.

Sub test()

Dim rMatch
Set rMatch = ActiveSheet.Cells.Find(What:="/0", LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt:=xlWhole)
rMatch.Value = "0"

End Sub

Find & Replace Values Based On Condition

Aug 21, 2007

I have a simple problem I am trying to find a set a values on a column and what to replace once found with the first 5 most left characters. Example:

in column A I can have text and numbers; the numbers that I want to find are in the following format xy:zw / xy:zw on each case the values can be from 0 to 9 so this is tons of posible combinations, I been trying to use **:** ? **:** but I don't get none. This is what I am doing

Set target = Sheets("Sheet1"). Range("A1:A9000")
For Each cell In target
If cell.Value = "**:** ? **:**" Then cell.Value = "00.00"
Next cell

A example would be 02:47 / 03:15 the next row could have 03:15 / 04:09
and so on however I could have text in some rows. In reality I would like to find and replace the cell.value with the Left 5 characters if the cell contains ANY value maching that format. Text in that column will never have that format combination

Replace Text In X Columns Based On X Criteria

Oct 17, 2007

I've attatched the workbook here with some dummy values in place of financial figures (We don't base our profit on RAND() formula's )

Essentially, I would like to search for CAN in A and SER in B and if they're found, to alter them to SYD (A) and CAN (2). It's essentially an automatic find and replace, but based on 2 criterias rather than one.

Excel 2003 :: Find And Replace Missing The Ability To Replace Values?

Feb 5, 2009

This problem has come up fairly frequently lately, and I'm not sure how to fix it, or if this is by design...but in Excel 2003 I can't seem to do a "Find and Replace" based on the value of a cell. I can do a find, based on cell value, but the moment I change to the replace tab, the "values" and "comments" are missing from the "look in" dropdown.

I've only noticed this when I'm trying to replace on a filtered list, so I'm not sure if that is part of the issue.

Perhaps an alternative way of arriving at the same goal. Basically I have a worksheet with a number of filtered columns. They are filtered just right, using custom filtering, and so I do not want to undo the filters. In some columns I have formulas that are returning #VALUE! errors. I'd like to replace all of these cells with NA.

Find And Replace To Not Replace Characters Found As Wildcards?

Jul 2, 2013

I recently became owner of a spreadsheet with some issues, and I am trying to make it useful. Each row has a URL of a blog post, and I want to extract the date from it (which is present in each URL) while getting rid of the rest of the URL. I was able to get rid of everything up to the year (which comes first), but then the URL continues, for example, 2013/05/16/the-rest-of-the-url/ and I would like to just have 2013/05/16 remain.

I am trying to use find and replace with the find box reading 2013/??/??/*/ and replacing it with 2013/??/?? which effectively erases everything else in the url, but leaves ?? instead of the numbers. Is there any way to have it so that it keeps whatever was in the original box?

What formula could I use that would look for the two headers in my report sheet and then match it with the value in the data dump that uses the same two headers?

Find Columns By Name And Highlight Them Certain Colors Based On Text In Another Column

Jul 9, 2009

I have a worksheet with 20+ columns. For this macro, I only need to focus on 4 of them. However, none of these columns are ever in a fixed position so the macro would need to find them by name and NOT by column position. Here they are...

1. Vacation Type (will only have a text value of either "Cold" or "Warm")

2. Vacation Started (will always have a date *x/xx/xxxx)

3. Vacation Ended (sometimes it will have a date '*x/xx/xxxx' and sometimes it will NOT have a date and will be truly blank)

4. Number of Days (currently has ALL truly blank cells)

THIS WHOLE MACRO SHOULD NOT BE CASE SENSITIVE ANYWHERE

Here's what I would like the macro to do...

Scenario 1 - for "Cold" values
Find "Cold" text values in the "Vacation Type" column
"Cold" values WITH a date in the "Vacation Ended" columnIF there IS a date in the "Vacation Ended" column in the same row, put the number of days difference between the "Vacation Started" column and "Vacation Ended" column in the "Number of Days" column.

The amount of days in the "Number of Days" column will determine whether these cells should be highlighted GREY or RED.

A) IF the number of days difference is 7 days or less, highlight the cells in the "Vacation Ended" column and "Number of Days" column RED.

Create A Macro That Find And Calculate Based On Details Of 4 Columns On Same Spreadsheet

Jul 21, 2012

create a macro that will find and calculate based on the details of 4 columns on the same spreadsheet.

Basically, here is what I need to do:

1. Need to calculate how many QTY IN (Column F) and PALLETS IN (Column I) of a specific PART# (Column A) and LOT CODE (Column B) For example if enter a PART # and LOT CODE, it will calculate how many QTY IN and PALLET IN of that PART # and LOT CODE.

2. Need to do the same for QTY OUT (Column G) and PALLETS OUT (Column J) also.

3. Output should contain the PALLET # , QTY IN and PALLETS IN based on the PART # and LOT CODE search. I just want to simplify the search function in this spreadsheet because it is very cumbersome if you need to find how many items left for that PART # and LOT CODE.

Attached is the spreadsheet..

I was wondering if it is possible to do this unique find and replace that is explained below.

I have many columns with data from our database. I have one column that has my html layout in it. I want to find within the html text data and replace it with data from another column for that row.

Example: We have [[manufacturer]] in the html area that we want to replace with data from our column called Manufacturer. So, it will replace the text in the html named [[Manufacturer]] with that rows Manufacturer data we have.

Is that possible to do?

Find & Replace In VBA

Nov 15, 2006

I am trying to find and replace #N/A from a formula (link to another sheet) with nothing in the cell, using VBA.

Using this code it will do the first "find"
Cells.Find(What:="#N/A", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt _
:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:= _
True, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
ActiveCell.ClearContents
Trying this
Cells.Replace What:="#N/A", Replacement:=" ", LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt:=xlPart, _
SearchOrder:=xlByRows, MatchCase:=True, SearchFormat:=True, _
ReplaceFormat:=False
LookIn:= is highlighted and I get a "named argument not found"
Don't understand that because LookIn:=xlValues works in the first code.

I did try and place After:=ActiveCell,before this, but that does not work. I Get the same error.

I have more then one cell with the #N/A which I would like to get rid of. I want this to work only on this one sheet. The other sheet that the formula is pulling from does have #N/A, and that is okay, I need it there.

Find And Replace ..?

Mar 2, 2007

I have a list of sales associates that are assigned numbers. For example, John Doe is 1022. The data I have to work with only shows his number 1022 but for my reports management wants the name John Doe. I have about 60 sales associates and have a VB code that 'finds and replaces'. The code is huge. It has slowly grown out of hand, with more sales associates added daily. I also have 22 sheets in one workbook with specific columns to search for the numbers to replace with the names.

This is what I would like to do. Have a sheet named associates, as more associates are added I would just have to add their name and number. Have two columns with headers column A - Associates column B Associate #. Name ranges for the two columns and write a code that says look in the sheet associate, at named range 'numbertoname' and if the current sheet 'total sales' I am in has the number 1022 in column C replace it with the name John Doe. It seems like it should be easy but.......I have tried and tried today.

Find And Replace ‘*’

Sep 15, 2006

I am facing a strange problem with Find and Replace function of Excel. I converted a PDF document into a Word document. I copied the tables in the Word document to an Excel document. As the data had many ‘*’ characters, which I did not want, I used Find and Replace function to get rid of them. However, to my surprise, two things were happening.

1.When I tried to replace ‘*’ in a cell with ‘ Construction revenue ********************** ’, it was deleting all the contents of the cell.
2.When I tried to find all the cells with ‘*’ , it was selecting cells even without ‘*’

I tried various things like changing the format, pasting only values..etc, but nothing worked. Finally I had to use the Replace function of VBA to do the task. For further analysis I am attaching my Excel file with that data.

I've tried highlighting the column in which I want to make the replacements, but same message.

Also tried highlighting nothing, same message.

Find / Replace Two Different Chars

Mar 26, 2009

Assume someone typed the hereunder date ad TEXT.

The Formula bar shows: ="01/01/2009"
The cell presents: 01/01/2009

I need to remove the equation sign as well the two inverted-commas.

I am familiar with the "Text to Column" feature, the use of SUBSTITUTE Function, a short macro and also the Find&Replace is also a good idea but, as far as I understand,
it must be run Twice(!)

I am looking for a way to use Find&Replace in "One! shot" - meaning, to put the TWO different(!) characters [ the '=' and the " ] in the 'find what' window,
leaving the 'replace with' window empty.

I know that something similar to that can be done in a "Word" document - but can it be accomplished in Excel?

Each number from the first group needs to check to see if it exists in the second group. If it does exist, the cell should change to a highlighted cell, or switch to an 'X' or something else that identifies it has been matched. Note: Numbers may be duplicated in both groups. Is there an easy way to do this, or will it involve programming? I'm attaching an example of the "group" setup.
