Formatting Control Box By Use Of Function?

Mar 4, 2013

So I've designed a data capture sheet that is full of control boxes including text boxes.

Following some googling I found this, it does exactly what I want (checks the date input to the box is a valid date and then formats it appropriately)

VB:
Private Sub TextBox7_LostFocus()
If IsDate(TextBox7.Text) Then
TextBox7.Text = Format(TextBox7.Text, "mm/dd/yyyy")

[Code].....

Control That Allows Single Character Formatting

Oct 5, 2007

When I try to add the Richtextbox control, I get this error: "The control could not be created because it is not properly licensed." Since I'm in a corporate setting, I don't think I can get around this (since I don't have access to the computer's registry and several users will be using it). I have figured out a way to present the user with some rich text controls (Bold, Italics, Underline, Font, Color, etc), which will add special characters around the selected text which then is interpreted by a procedure and formats the text in the output destination (HTML document).

However, that tends to clutter up the textbox and makes it somewhat cumbersome for some users to edit the text. I'd prefer to have them see the formatted text in the textbox, if possible. So, is there a way to get some sort of Rich Text Box without the RichTextBox control? It's long shot, I know.

Conditional Formatting: OFFSET Function To Define A Range Inside A SUM Function

Then he had Conditional Formatting that would highlight the range that was being summed. Can anyone tell me what the formula would be inside the Conditional Formatting dialog box to get the OFFSET range to have a certain format?

Applying Function Arguments As A Control/class Name

Mar 16, 2007

I'm not sure what verbage to use in order to describe what I'm trying to accomplish.

Let me give you a piece of code and the question will be clear.

Function addValuesToComboBox(arg1)
arg1.AddItem("one")
arg1.AddItem("two")
arg1.AddItem("three")
End Function

I would like to use this function later in the code in the form of:

addValuesToComboBox("Combobox1")
addValuesToCombobox("Combobox2")

VBA will error out with "Run-time error '424': Object required". I know I need to declare the variable arg1 as a type in order to use it in this form, but I don't know the correct data type.

I also ran across a similar issue like this where the advice was to use the Set function in the form of:

Function addValuesToComboBox(arg1)
Set arg1 = arg1.AddItem("one")
Set arg1 = arg1.AddItem("two")
Set arg1 = arg1.AddItem("three")
End Function

Disabling The Control Drag And Fill Function

Mar 29, 2007

the function I'm referring to is when you have a value in a cell and you hover your mouse cursor over the edge and get the black cross with arrows on all corners. Once you drag the cell into another location, it copies the the data into the other cell.

I need a way to stop this from happening, because this causes reference errors on other sheets when users do this by accident. However, I still need to allow the user to be able to type in that cell, use the autofill option, and the Ctrl+C option. Is there a way to program a macro that can be put in the sheets to do this for specified cells or ranges?

VBA Custom Function - Form Control Name Object Not Supported?

Jun 18, 2014

I'm creating a custom function to cut down on redundant code. However, in converting the code to a function so that it may be used in different instances, I'm getting an unexpected error when the code executes.

The error is:

Code:
Object doesn't support this property or method.

Here is my function:

Code:
Public Function chkClick(checkboxName As String, tabName As String, chartName As String, seriesNumber As Long)
Sheets(tabName).ChartObjects(chartName).Activate
If Sheets(tabName).checkboxName.Value = True Then
ActiveChart.FullSeriesCollection(seriesNumber).Select

[code]....

The function checks the status of the checkbox name passed to it. If it's checked, it will show a chart series. If it's not checked, it will hide the chart series. The error comes in referencing the "checkboxName".

How might I need to alter the code so that I can use the form control name as a variable? This is ultimately one of the key components of the function as each control has it's own name.

Conditional Formatting (max If Function)

Feb 8, 2014

I would like to use conditional formatting to highlight the max value if the constraints are not violated.

For example,
Row 91 - Profit
Row 94 - Constraint A (750<=A<=855)
Row 95 - Constraint B (12<=B<=17)
So, I tried to type this in conditional formatting but it didn't work ><
=MAX(IF(AND(B94>=750,B94<=855,B95>=12,B95<=17),$B$91:$Q$91,0))

Can We Do OR Function In Conditional Formatting?

Dec 14, 2009

Is it possible to use OR function in Conditional Formatting? I want to do the following.

If A1 = 1, A2 cell is filled in Red
If A1 = 2, A2 cell is filled in Red
If A1 = 3, A2 cell is filled in Green,
If A1 = 4, A2 cell is filled in Green,

I only managed to do the above for 3 conditions as Conditional Formatting only allows me to no more than 3.

Determine Active Control On Multipage Control

How do I determine which control the user is currently modifying on a multipage form (either changing, enterying or exiting the specific control). when I use "userform1.activecontrol" i get "multipage1" as the control name but I need the actual control on the specific active multipage. (also the .TABINDEX is for the multipage regardless of the on-page control) I use a generic data-field change SUBroutine so need the control name (and the TABINDEX) to provide my SELECT CASE. Conditional Formatting On MATCH / LOOKUP Function?

Mar 6, 2012

I have an "actual build" worksheet, which allows the user to select which materials were used, material properties (e.g. material grade etc.), including its corresponding length. The user can enter all these in manually, or select the material name from a pre-defined list (Reference worksheet contains this information), and then the associated properties are automatic lookups from the Reference worksheet.

So all this is fine / completed, and the LOOKUP returns its theoretical length from the reference table. However, its actual material lengths will almost never match the theoretical length, so what I want to happen is for a conditional format to highlight the cell, to notify the user that they need to enter a manual value. The auto-looked up length is still useful a proposed build on the worksheet, but having it highlighted to ensure it is manually entered later is the objective.

The other thing is it can't just check if it's a formula, it has to check if it is a formula with a MATCH/LOOKUP function. E.g. it needs to be unhighlighted if someone has a basic formula, ie = 2*0.42 if there two of the item etc..

Hence, I was thinking of having a conditional formula that "format only cells that contain" and then format only cells with "specific text" and "containing" and "MATCH(" text function, however this doesn't seem to work.

Length cell formula:

=OFFSET('Reference- Materials'!$N$5, MATCH($BO32, Materials_Item_Number, 0), 0) * $AH32

Excel 2010 :: Replicate Conditional Formatting Using A User VBA Function?

May 6, 2014

Using Excel 2010.

The background to this question is that I'm trying to replicate conditional formatting using a user VBA function, because I require a thick border around the cells (and the conditional formatting within Excel only has thin borders)

In the final function, there will be 9 combinations of formatting {Red, Amber, Green} interior with {Red, Amber, Green} thick borders.

The formatting is determined by a number in another cell (the "target" cell), which returns a value 0,...,8

I've only got as far as filling in the interior for the first combination, but the function returns an error "Application-defined or object-defined error".

VB:
Function VBA000_003_SetRAG(strTargetRange As String) 'strTargetRange is the reference for the target cell that contains the value 0,...,8

On Error Goto handler [code]....

There is not a problem with the target range, if I remove the two lines relating to rngCaller then the function works OKExecuting the rngCaller.Interior.Color = RGB(255, 0, 0) command through the Immediates window works OKI've tried calling a subroutine & passing the range across

Same errorChanging the range in the subroutine to an absolute range (eg. Sheet1.range("A1")) also causes the

same errorExecuting the subroutine on its own (with the absolute range) works OK

So my guess is that it's a bug/limitation with Excel VBA when trying to execute commands from inside a user function

Macro Fill Down Function Is Changing Format In Conditional Formatting

Dec 18, 2013

When I hit the macro code you see below I get both columns D and E, starting from row 18, to get 'filled down' to the specified spot. Every second row has a conditional format (when a value is entered in column A) to change the row to the color grey, and every row between it has a conditional format (when any value is entered in column A as well) to have the row changed to the color red. The issue here is that the Macro code messes up the conditional formatting and uses the conditional formatting of those two cells, which are being dragged down, for those entire filled-down columns! This is what I am starting off with test1.xlsm and this is what I end up with using the macro code below (or doing it manually)

test2.xlsm

Is there a way for the Macro code to bypass this issue?

Control Code Causing Other Control Code To Run

I display the results from PA_03, and the user than then increase or decrease the number by using the combobox. But when I change the value (PA_03_rows.value = x) it causes the macro to jump to the macro.

Bank Statements - Formatting / Cell Formatting Won't Change?

Mar 22, 2013

I'm trying to analyse all of my bank statenments to see where all my money went!! I've got online banking so I thought it would be a relatively easy process of copying and pasting each month into excel.

Well, that in itself was easy, the problem is with the formatting of the financial numbers. Excel doesn't seem to recognise them as numbers, so at the moment I can't do any manipulation with the numbers. I have tried everything such as:

Format Cells > Number > Number and Currency
Copy and Paste Special > Values only
Copying into Notepad and back into Excel

Even if it appears to have changed the numbers to 'number' or 'currency' formatting by right justifying the numbers, if I try to add up the numbers using the SUM function, it doesn't want to know.

For some reason nothing seems to work - what am I missing?

For an example, I have attached a snippet of the spreadsheet with my starbucks transactions.
