Bank Statements - Formatting / Cell Formatting Won't Change?
Mar 22, 2013
I'm trying to analyse all of my bank statenments to see where all my money went!! I've got online banking so I thought it would be a relatively easy process of copying and pasting each month into excel.
Well, that in itself was easy, the problem is with the formatting of the financial numbers. Excel doesn't seem to recognise them as numbers, so at the moment I can't do any manipulation with the numbers. I have tried everything such as:
Format Cells > Number > Number and Currency
Copy and Paste Special > Values only
Copying into Notepad and back into Excel
Even if it appears to have changed the numbers to 'number' or 'currency' formatting by right justifying the numbers, if I try to add up the numbers using the SUM function, it doesn't want to know.
For some reason nothing seems to work - what am I missing?
For an example, I have attached a snippet of the spreadsheet with my starbucks transactions.
Is it possible to format a cells properties based on the value of the cell? I want to automatically format numbers that fall within certain ranges. For example, if I enter a number less than x, the number will be bold, in a blue color. If I enter a number greater than y, that number will be bold and red. All numbers outside the specified ranges would remain the default font. I would prefer that this property be set for a specified range of cells prior to entering any data, and automatically format as I enter the values. Can it be done?
I need some help with applying some conditional formatting to cells that are populated with logic. I attached a portion of the sheet I am working on.
The cells in rows 41 and 42 will always be there so I am ok with them. The data in cells C43:I43 is loaded if a certain feature is selected on a separate sheet. If it is NOT selected, I need the values to not show up, (this part is already done with the formula in the cells) and i also need the conditional formatting to make all the cells white or blank. The same is true for the data in cells C46:I46
I have a spreadsheet that has several columns containing names and data. In the first column, is a person's name, in the second, is a client number for that person, and in the third is the "last contact" date. I have a fourth "reference" column that has a conditional statement I was trying to use for formatting. For example, in A1 would be "John Doe," in B1 would be 987, and in C1 would be 06/10/07. The next row would have data for a different person. In column E I have my reference column.
If the last contact date is less than 4 days from the current date (which is in cell K2), the reference column (using an if formula) will produce the number 1. If it is 5 or 6 days from the current date, it produces the number 2, and if it is 7 or more, then it produces the number 3. Here is the exact formula:
What I want to happen is this: if the reference column produces a 1, then I want the corresponding row to turn red. This would only include the name, assigned number, and last contact date. I do not need the entire row to change a certain color. If a 2 is produced, I would like the row to turn yellow, and if a 3 is produced, I would like the row to turn green. This is going to run for many rows (up to 150). How do I do this using VBA? Keep in mind the numbers in the reference column will change if the "last contact date" is updated to a more current date.
I use online banking for paying my monthly bills. I get different confirmartion for each pay transection. Pls look attached Excel file. Now I want to find specific bills expense with amount from all my 12 months bank statements. How can I get this task done.
Note: Each time get different confirmation which appears on my bank statement beside paid bill name. for example January 2009 statement GAS Z8A.... Feb 2009 GAS S2W. I hope this clarify. What I have to do if I want to get all my 12 months GAS money withdraw from bank statement. I use csv file for bank statement.
Can you have IF and AND statements in Conditional formatting formulas?
I put this and I get an error: =IF(AND($G5=""($H5=<>"")) I was testing the water for adding and OR statment also. I really want if cell G5 is blank and cell H5 or I5 has text, then G5 should be red.
I have a spreadsheet of stock data open, high, low, close etc., that streams in real time from thompson reuters. i am trying to conditionally format the G column which is the "(HIGH)" price of the day to alert me when the value of that cell changes price. Basically during the first 15 min of trading my software filters down the top performing stocks of the day. During that time i drag and drop the information in the excel program that is linked to the stock quotes program which might give me up to 30 or 40 stocks. The conditional formatting is to alert me after the 15 min mark if the "(HIGH)" value in that column has changed price to a new high. I can control the stream of the data with a button that turns off the data stream so that it only goes live after 15 min.
I got a calendar macro running, the thing is that when the date is selected (and it gets entered into the cell connected to the macro), it needs to format it according to whether the date selected is today's date or not.
If the date selected in the calendar is today's - then it needs to enter dd/mm/yyyy - h:mm AM/PM, etc...
If it is it not today's date, then I only need dd/mm/yyyy to come up on the output cell.
I want to change the colour in a cell depending on the sum of two other cells. ie A3=1,B3=1 A4=2,B4=1 A5=1,B5=0 A6=2,B6=4
So i want if A3+B3>2 THEN C3 TO HAVE GREEN COLOUR A4+B4>2 THEN C4 TO HAVE GREEN COLOUR A5+B5>2 THEN C5 TO HAVE GREEN COLOUR A6+B6>2 THEN C6 TO HAVE GREEN COLOUR
SO IN THE END ONLY C4 AND C6 WILL HAVE GREEN COLOUR.
Is there any formula to do so with conditional formatting?
I have a conditional formatting issue in Excel 2007.
I have a drop down list which shows 4 countries; UK, DE, FR and NL
I would like to change the format of a number of cells to £ or € dependent on what the dropdown box has chosen.
I have a number of vlookups, so it pulls the right amount, and the right SKU, but I cannot get it to change the formatting correctly. I have even tried to simplify it to say, if UK use £ and if <> UK then use €, but that doesn't change either. If I change it, so it colours red for UK, and clear for not UK, that works.
I would like to be able to put a value into a cell. By doing this I would like another cell next to it to turn a color. With that said, is it also possible to format a cell with several possible scenarios in one formula to be able to change the cell next to it a color?? Example is this lets say Cell B1 could have the letters, A B C D or E entered. So that the Cell A1 turns say the color Red.
I'm trying to create a worksheet change event macro that will change the colour of the cell when you update the value in that cell.
I have column C with 140 rows and when one of the cells in the column is changed by the user, I need the same cell to highlight in yellow. The highlight would then be removed once the user has acted on the change in the value, and that'll be done in another macro.
I understand I need a worksheet change event macro in the specific sheet and need the following code for yellow:
Code: .Interior.Color = RGB(255,255,0)
, but any further I get stuck as it involves 'target addresses'
If a cells value is between to numbers then I need to change the color of that specific cell to green otherwise cell is to turn red. Also all cells without a value defaults to yellow.
I am trying to setup a monthly calendar. What I want to do is have it so that if you type "apples I want some", the cell changes colour to green, and also the apples doesnt appear in the cell. So when you press enter, all you will see is a green cell that says "I want some"
I was wondering if there was a way in VB within the worksheet to make this happen?
Cell B157 is changed by checkbox 1= TRUE, 0 = FALSE Cell H1 and Cell H2 are percentages changed by the user.
Range(AI8:AQ8,AI12:AQ12,AI16:AQ16,AI20:AQ20, etc) each cell in the range contains a formula, and is protected from the user.
I need the contents of each cell in the range to change font color (independent of each other) when the formula of any of the cells within the range changes - to the following
If B157 = 1
Cells < H1 (a percentage changed by user), would turn Red Cells > H1 but < H2 (a percentage changed by user) would turn Yellow Cells > H2 would be Green
If B157 = 0
Cells < H1 (a percentage changed by user), would turn Green Cells > H1 but < H2 (a percentage changed by user) would turn Yellow Cells > H2 would be Red
I need it to fire whenever the value of one of the cells in the range changes.
I have tried If statements, Select Case, and a combination of both but just can't get it!
I know how to set a conditional for a cell to change a color when i apply a specific value, but how about if i want to set E2 cell to change to green when i place a 'X' on F2?
Pretty much I want 2 columns that say Yes and the Other No. When i place a X on Yes that other cell turns green, if i place a X on No that other cell turns red.
I am trying to set up conditional formatting in cell C4 to change the font to a smaller number based on the value of C4. If C4 = 0 then Font Calibri 16, otherwise Font Calibri 24. However, the font size is not availabe, it is greyed out. Is there another way to accomplish this without using VBA? In the worksheet could I use an if() statement to change the font size?
I'm using windows xp and excel 2010. I have a very large sheet that has a bunch of highlighted cells. There all highlighted the same color. I need to remove the highlighting colors and change the font color of the highlighted cells to red.
I have two columns. In column B is the date of "last check". I column A is the date of "next check". I would like to have cell A2 in yellow color 334 days after the date entered in cell A3 and than in red color 365 days after the date entered in cell A3. Same thing for cell B2 related to date entered in cell B3. Yellow color in cells announces that check will expire within 30 days and red color that check has been expired.
On one of our computers at work, Excel is acting especially strange. The conditional formatting in Excel on one of our computers is not working. In addition, we cannot fill a cell with any color or change the color of the writing. We can click a color for the letters and type it in, but immediately after another cell is highlighted, the writing goes black again. When we try to highlight multiple cells with the cursor, the cells are black instead of the normal color. This happens to not just spreadsheets that are new, but existing spreadsheets on our shared drive from only this one computer as well. No other computers are affected this way. All other computers show the spreadsheets fine and do not have any functionality issues.
Via conditional formatting, I am searching to change the color of a specific word in a cell (not the color of everything in the cell, but only that specific word - and the word repeats in the cell). A function such as =isnumber(search("NOK";A1)) colors all the cell values, which I do not want to do. How i can perform this task?

i have a "Game Points Bank Account" that keeps track of the points users earn or spend in the game...what i need help is creating a running total for the bank..ive tried everything nothing works..
(this is actually like a traditional bank account)
each player starts with 10,000 points
*Row 8 is the only row to have formulas*
*Rows 9-11 are typed in to show my desired results*
Here is the point value "Ranking System" for Column T
A little background on what i am doing. I have a spreadsheet that tracks when i have blown the dust out of our computers. I have set up conditional formatting so that the text turns red after 300 days and the cell turns yellow after 600 days. However, some computers are in high dust environments. I would like the spreadsheet to tell me to blow the dust out of these sooner. see the attached sheet.
Pivot Tables. I've created a very simple one where my Row Lables are Salesperson then date and the second column is Sales. It looks "backwards" to me, because each salesperson's total sales for all dates combined is ABOVE the data by date. To make it worse, there's a line below the name, which looks like it's separating the name from the next few lines! With the next salesperson's name in the same "block" as the previous salesperson's details, it's very confusing! It would make more sense to me to have each salesperson's total be at the BOTTOM of their section!
I have a spreadsheet where one column will determine the color of the entire row....if the sales persons name in column B = "Dew", the entire row should be shaded light blue. if the name is "Swiger" they should be white, when its Webb, it should be light blue again- alternatively, at every change in value in that column, alternate the entire rows shade - when the sales person name changes from Dew to Swiger, change the shading of Swigers Rows to white, when it changes from Swiger to Webb, make Webb's rows shaded the same blue as Dew's row's were....there are multiple rows for each sales person.
