MsgBox Open That States This File Is Confidential And You Click 'I Agree' Button, Or A Cancel "I Decline

May 19, 2007

Private Sub Workbook_Open()
MsgBox "Insert Text Here" , vbOKCancel
End Sub

What I would like to do is have a MsgBox open up that states this file is confidential and you click 'I Agree' button, or a cancel "I Decline"

I do not want the spreadsheet to be visible until they click on 'I Agree' button, and then if they click cancel, the Excel closes.

This is not a huge security issue, just a reminder for the Top Brass not to email out the file. This is for looks and show only

Workbook Crashes On Open

Jun 14, 2008

Three times (by three different users) over the past two months, a workbook has gotten into what appears to be some sort of corrupted state. When you attempt to open the workbook you get the "report to Microsoft" screen which states "Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close". Proceeding on this screen closes the entire instance of Excel, including the offending workbook and any others that are open. However, if I simply open and save the workbook in Excel safe mode, then it resolves the problem. But, again, it has happened three times so it keeps coming back.

A little more background: there is a custom add-in referenced which contains many custom functions. This add-in is also referenced by other workbooks, none of which have had this problem. The Workbook_Open event only does what I consider to be superficial processing; it hides some sheets, selects a sheet, defaults some shape colors, and defaults a checkbox to True. In other words, nothing too heavy going on at startup, in my opinion. I have tried several times to break into the code between the time the workbook begins to load and when the "report to Microsoft" screen is displayed, but this was unsuccessful.

I was hoping that the fact that simply saving it from safe mode resolves the problem might indicate the problem to someone on the forum. I have a copy of the file in its corrupted state but I have not attached it because it contains some business sensitive information.

Dynamic Open/Close Of Workbooks Crashes

Dec 15, 2009

I'm working on developing a stock option trading system in Excel using a live data feed and VBA. It tends to crash after running flawlessly for a half hour to 2 hours. It seems to crash when loading a support workbook, so I was hoping you could take a peek at my code and see if there's a problem with the way I'm dynamically opening/closing workbooks.

In order to cope with limitations in the amount of live data that I'm accessing (through DDE with Reuters Station), I've split up the data I need into about 600 workbooks, which open when they're needed or close when they're not (through VBA). At any given time, about 35-40 of these workbooks are open.

The main workbook that uses all this live data and support workbooks is set to have the application recalculate every 5 seconds (automatic recalc crashes the program almost immediately). After that refresh, it calls other subroutines, including opening/closing these support workbooks:

Open The Hidden Worksheet When Clicked

May 2, 2006

1) I cannot figure out how to write VBA so the "Show Results" button will open the hidden worksheet when clicked.

2) When I use the userform to add new info, it does save to the worksheet, but when I cose the userform and try to open the spreadsheet, I get the following message, "Userform is already opened. Reopening will cause any changes to be disguarded". If I answer yes, I lose my changes, if I answer no, the changes are saved. I want this message to go away and data from the userform to automatically be added to the spreadsheet.

3) I want to make sure the "Account Number" field has a 9 digit number in it before it can be saved. If there is not a 9 digit number I would like an error message saying "Please enter a 9 digit account number" as a pop up.

4) I want to make sure both the "Account Number" and the "Assignment" fields have been populated before the data can be saved.

File Cannot Be Accessed - Process Crashes- Programmatically Trap The Condition

Apr 19, 2007

Workbook A has VBA code. The VBA code opens a collection of 2000 workbooks. The workbooks are processed one at a time, with Workbook A opening Workbook B, do something, close Workbook B, get next workbook. Sometimes Workbook B has some kind of access issue that results in:

"[File Name] cannot be accessed. The file may
be read-only, or you may be trying to
access a read-only location. Or, the
server the document is stored on may
not be responding.
RETRY ... CANCEL"

If RETRY is clicked, the process returns the same message. If CANCEL is clicked, the process is crashed, Excel is closed, and all data processed is lost. What is the VBA syntax to programmatically trap this condition so it can be processed in an orderly manner?

Get Open File Name To Open Multiple Files

Jul 3, 2007

I'm doing the following:

Dim myname As String
myname = Application. GetOpenFilename

I use it to attempt to open first a QuickBooks file and then an excel workbook.
The Quickbooks file opens fine. The Excel workbook never appears to open but
I do get the full file pathname to my excel workbook returned which I then
parse off to get just the workbook name.

Why would it behave this way? I open both these files manually all the time.

Also, I'm trying to use a filter as follows:

myname = Application.GetOpenFilename("*.QBW")

I get a compile error saying that I'm calling the function wrong.

Locate CSV File With Open File Msgbox And Import Columns From CSV To Worksheet

Oct 28, 2011

Actually i've downloaded Tracking report of my SPO and this report is on 4-5 csv files (1 file per week). I have to gather data from these 4 files into one Worksheet. I have to do this with command button on my worksheet; with Open file dialogue box (i want to locate the csv files).

CSV files are something like that (I need only first 4 columns):

ABCDE1Name MSISDN Date Location MapLink 2M. Younus Safi "923***550577" "2011-10-07 20:36:18" "ACB Tower Badragah Chakwal. Badraga" "http://asdf.com" 3M. and my Worksheet is like that (With a command Button):

I want to import first 3 columns of csv file on first 3 columns on my worksheet; leave 2 columns blank and then import the 4th column... now for example i have done importing data from 1st csv file and the data is on 50 rows.. i click the command button again, locate the 2nd csv file.. do the same thing (import 1st 3 columns, 2 blank, then 4th) --from 51st Row-- and so on...

Macro To Open File Saved In Same Location But File Name Changes With Each Date

Feb 8, 2013

I do routine tasks every day which involves opening 3 different files and pasting data into my main file. The data is always in the same format, and the 3 files are saved in the same location (3 different folders through). The 3 files are saved each day and the naming convention is constant, with only the date changing. For example, the files are always saved in C:My Documents and the files are called test_05.02.2013.xls. Tomorrow the file will be called test_06.02.2013.xls and so on.

So each day I will be rolling a file forward and I want to bring in the info from each of these files based on the new day.

How to do 1, and I will do the others (because the concept will be the same).

Open Excel File Based On Date In File Name That Is From One Day Before

Example: statistics_20140423_142754.xls

Once I need to open the file (only in the mornings), it has to be the one from the previous day to see the yesterdays performance. How can I create a macro that will look at the date in the file and take the one from yesterday?

This will be a part of a macro I'm making. The rest of the macro will just format the file and combine a few ones from different departments.

Open Text File From File Manager Vs. Within Workbook

Oct 2, 2006

I've encountered a bit of an odd one. I am opening a tab delimited file, which has been sved as an xls. When I open from file manager, it opens correctly. When I open from Excel, I have to go through 3 screen dictating how the data is set up, and the end result is that a couple of the numbers come through as text, rather than numbers.

Failing an explanation - how do you open workbooks as file system objects - currently I am opening them using

Workbooks.Open Filename:=wb.Path & "/" & ws. Range("B1").Value

If I open them by mimicking the FM, perhaps it will work OK.

Open File Macro, Error - Incrementing File Name

The first time it is opened you see the file name in the header read "P'Binder L&T Pages" for a moment, then it changes to "P'Binder L&T Pages1"...
