I want to create a standard macro that will copy values from a Master workbook to the current, active workbook I have open. The problem I have run into is when I record a macro it also records the name of the active workbook I'm copying data into and I would like it so when I bring up a workbook I just run the macro and it copies the values in. I'll be doing 8 different macros that each copy different values from the Master spreadsheet

So I am trying to take a couple of tabs from current year data file and pasting them into the blank file.
My question when is do that all the formulas get referenced to the current years file. i want to keep the same formulas but reference the tabs on blank file.
Is there a quicker way to do this rather and going into all the cells and changing reference from current years files data to blank files data.
VBA coding for automatically saving an excel file as another file using the current date as part of the file name together with "32ga" as a constant add-in. I also what this macro to run at a particular time of the day let say 00:20hrs. The excel file i want to save as is always open . It has data that changes every 24-hrs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Excel file that contains formulas that reference external workbooks on a shared network. Each month, I copy the column of formulas over to the next month's column. Then, to update the file path, I highlight the new column and do a Find-and-Replace, swapping the previous month's name for the current month. This practice works fine. The only thing is ... the "Open File" promptbox appears for each formula where I updated the file path (i.e. and this can be hundreds instances!). I wind-up having to choose the file from the exact same file path. It is an unnecessary, and annoying extra step to take.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a novice at Excel trying to create some forms for work. My goal is to have a working workbook that holds all my values from multiple jobs that gets updated daily with additional worksheets that gets sent to me. I'd like to be able to hit a macro in my workbook that allows me to select a file that has been emailed to me and import their values into mine. For example:
While using my active workbook I want to select a file. Then take cells A1:A15 from selected file and paste to cells F1:F15 in my active workbook.
I have the following Macro that I run assigned to a Button.
Sub AskAndDo()
If MsgBox("Have you Finished collecting data ?", vbYesNo + vbQuestion) = vbNo Then
Exit Sub
Else
If MsgBox("Have you Printed the Reports ?", vbYesNo + vbQuestion) = vbNo Then
Exit Sub
Else
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="\gamingntcompanyFLOAT MASTERFloat_Sheet_" & Format(Date, "_YY_MM_DD")
End If
End If
Application.Quit

I have a code in file A that opens several files (B,C,D&E), copies some data from them, then closes the files. That part of the code works fine, but each of the files that are opened (B,C,D,&E) have a Workbook Open event that causes the file to save automatically every 30 seconds. (I know this is not recommended, but this is what the user wants.) The files also have a Workbook Before Close event that is supposed to stop the timer so the file will close without reopening. These each run fine on their own.But if I run code A, the workbook Before Close event in file B (C,D, & E) does not seem to run and the files reopen after 30 seconds to save. When I step through the code it works fine and goes through the Before Close event in each file and the files remain closed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have numerous spreadsheets that I need to open and unhide a sheet, that has XML data stored in cell A1. What I need to do is copy that data in cell A1 and paste it into a text document and save that as an XML file saved as the XLS workbook name with a date stamp.
I'm running into many issues, the main issue is the saving as current file name, and the formatting of the text/XML file.
Here is my current code, which doesn't reference the current file name and is just very generic. Once I get the saving as file-name correct and the formatting of the xml file correct, I will work on it a bit more.
Code:
Sub Test()
Dim Rng As Range
Dim wb As Workbook
Set Rng = Range("A1:A2")
Set wb = Workbooks.Add
With wb

Is there code that will take certain data from one Excel sheet to another named file in a different place on the network? Example Copy cell aa47 from "Recent Faxes.xls" that sits in "correspondence" folder. Then paste into cell B25 "Current Documentation.xls" in the "Sales Contacts" folder

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make Excel pull data out of a closed file based on a date range. The closed file is a log where people input data and enter the day they are doing it. I need to pull this data in my file and make it print into my worksheets so I can pass a report on to others with only the data they request from the log.
The range would be for 7 days and would have to be able to choose a few columns off this report.
I have a vlookup function which takes the data from a table in a closed file. A folder where the file would be located will change based on the value in the cell reference.
I used below formula which works, but every time when i drag or try to edit and enter, the path of the file path brokes and i need to reselect the path where the file is located. Is there a way where i can stop this?
Code:
=VLOOKUP(A2,'C:&E1&[Myfile.xls]Sheet2'!$A:$B,2,0)

What I'm trying too do is open a file, make an exact copy and save it under a new file name.
My problem is in the date formula the day is not always the same. In the sample case it's 03 at other times the day will change.
is there a way too get this too work irregardles of what the day might be?
I want to open a specific sheet and refresh only said sheet when i open another sheet for example x.xls
So opening x.xls will automatically open y.xls
I've tried this in the workbook code area but it doesn't do anything.

Actually i've downloaded Tracking report of my SPO and this report is on 4-5 csv files (1 file per week). I have to gather data from these 4 files into one Worksheet. I have to do this with command button on my worksheet; with Open file dialogue box (i want to locate the csv files).
CSV files are something like that (I need only first 4 columns):

I want to import first 3 columns of csv file on first 3 columns on my worksheet; leave 2 columns blank and then import the 4th column... now for example i have done importing data from 1st csv file and the data is on 50 rows.. i click the command button again, locate the 2nd csv file.. do the same thing (import 1st 3 columns, 2 blank, then 4th) --from 51st Row-- and so on...

I need a VB code to open excel files located in a path (fixed path) by providing a part of file name through a input box
for ex: I have some files located in my local drive as below
1. colurgreen.xls
2. colurred.xls
3. colurblue.xls
I need a input box asking for file name and I input "green" or "red" or"blue" and it should open the resp file.
I do routine tasks every day which involves opening 3 different files and pasting data into my main file. The data is always in the same format, and the 3 files are saved in the same location (3 different folders through). The 3 files are saved each day and the naming convention is constant, with only the date changing. For example, the files are always saved in C:My Documents and the files are called test_05.02.2013.xls. Tomorrow the file will be called test_06.02.2013.xls and so on.
So each day I will be rolling a file forward and I want to bring in the info from each of these files based on the new day.
How to do 1, and I will do the others (because the concept will be the same).
I need to open an excel file based on a date mentioned in the file name, but minus 1 day. The file name is composed with Statistics_date_time.xls
Example: statistics_20140423_142754.xls
Once I need to open the file (only in the mornings), it has to be the one from the previous day to see the yesterdays performance. How can I create a macro that will look at the date in the file and take the one from yesterday?
This will be a part of a macro I'm making. The rest of the macro will just format the file and combine a few ones from different departments.
I've got a couple of formulas in a workbook which lookup values in another workbook. When I reopen the initial workbook the formulas results come back as errors (i.e. #VALUE!) unless the workbook it is looking at is also open. This is not desirable, does anyway know how I can lookup values in another workbook which are not open? The formula which is causing me problems is as follows:
= SUMIF( 'H:Infozoom[2006-01_assy.xls]New Table1'!$F:$F,$A8,'H:Infozoom[2006-01_assy.xls]New Table1'!$AH:$AH)/60
I've encountered a bit of an odd one. I am opening a tab delimited file, which has been sved as an xls. When I open from file manager, it opens correctly. When I open from Excel, I have to go through 3 screen dictating how the data is set up, and the end result is that a couple of the numbers come through as text, rather than numbers.
Failing an explanation - how do you open workbooks as file system objects - currently I am opening them using
Workbooks.Open Filename:=wb.Path & "/" & ws. Range("B1").Value
If I open them by mimicking the FM, perhaps it will work OK.
When it opens the desired file, it increments the file name by 1 each time it is opened (via the macro).
Example;
The first time it is opened you see the file name in the header read "P'Binder L&T Pages" for a moment, then it changes to "P'Binder L&T Pages1"...
I close the file and open it again (via the macro), and see the file name in the header read "P'Binder L&T Pages" for a moment, then it changes to "P'Binder L&T Pages2"...
The file name continues to increment on every opening until the PC is rebooted, then it starts at 1 again.
Sub OpnLTpages()
Dim wb As Workbook
Dim AlreadyOpen As Boolean
AlreadyOpen = False
For Each wb In Workbooks 'Scan open workbooks
If wb.Name = "P'Binder L&T Pages.xls" Then ........................
I have a spreadsheet witht the following design:
Column A = Date
Column B = Value 1
Column C = Value 2
I have a folder with excel files named by date (e.g. 081212 = 8th December 12). Within each of those files is Value 1 and Value 2. They are always in the same cell (B6= Value 1, B16= Value 2).
How can i create a macro/script where the Values in Column B and Column C in my spreadsheet are automatically updated where there is a Date in Column A but no values in Column B or C?
In other words, i need the script to read the date in Column A and if Column B and Column C are blank, then it needs to find the corresponding date excel file and copy Value 1 and Value 2 into the cells in my spreadsheet.
1- how can i open an xls file from a macros to get some data from it?
2- how can i set a wait function, till i press a special button before macros will be able to continue.

is there a way using VBA code that you can have a file path entered into cell 'A1'
and then when you run the macro, the file referenced in the file path in cell 'A1' will open,
Hi, I'm trying to use a userform to open a previously saved file to avoid having the users dig through the folder and maybe work on the wrong file.
I have a file I have created to test if the code works, but the macro keeps giving me the reponse I set in case it doesn't find the file.
The data for Account (Account1 and Subaccount1) is coming from a text box, as well as for category (Category1). The data for Company is an optionbutton frame with 4 options for the user to select from.
I have a cell that is pulling data from a separate file, no problem there. However, I want the name of one of the folders within that path to change monthly (eg. by monthly name). How can I make a file path incorporate a cell link within a filepath (eg. instead of it saying 'Aug 06' I want it to refer to cell A1 which reads 'Aug 06').
