How To Get Rid Of Extra Spaces At The End Of Word In Cell
Sep 30, 2012
I am trying to get rid of some extra spaces at the end of a word in a cell.
As shown in the following code I have tried different functions to get remove them, but they are not working. Are those not spaces?
The cell has this word : "LPPJ4K2**" ' in excel the * appear as a white space
Code:
Filler = "LPPJ4K2**" ' this word is actually is in a cell
Filler = Trim(Filler) ' Not working
Filler = Application.Trim(Filler) ' Not working
Filler = Replace(Filler, " ", "") ' Not working
I've created spreadsheet to look after scores & handicaps in a golf society. I'm trying to add extra spaces so that if new members join they can easily be added without me having to add all the extra rows,change formulas at the time.
However I'm getting stuck when trying to sort the table in 'Championship Leaderboard' sheet, basically I only want to sort actual playing members, not the ones marked 'Test'. I've only marked them as 'Test' whilst trying to do this, but they will be blank eventually.
Error values keep popping up, and as a result it won't sort. Trying to get rid of error values to equal 'zero' create problems elsewhere and I just seem to be going round in circles and getting nowhere.
Basically unless a new member is added i don't want anything to appear in the spreadsheet. But i don't want the formulas etc which are there in readiness to affect existing player entries and data
Is VBA the answer or can it be done with formulae etc,
Column A have data and i need VB Code (Not formula) to check each cell in column A and delete any spaces and make sure that there is no spaces after end of the text.
As an example you can see Cell cell A15 thru A22 have spaces after the text so need to delete those spaces
I have a macro which opens one excel file, then copies the data into another, dead easy. However the first file is 'downloaded' from a bespoke package, where (for whatever reason) the package appends a number of spaces (" ") after data in one of the columns,
So sometimes the data will contain one, ten or more extra spaces (no telling how many) ie, it could look like "AB ", "AB ", or "AB " etc
Ideally What i need is a small bit of code that once the data has been imported to my sheet it can run and 'strip' extra spaces from the column, lets say column f, to leave all the data in this column to look like:
I have a table of postcodes and I need to import them into a bespoke application. The aaplication requires them to have extra spaces depending on the postcode i.e.
BS35 2JW - this is fine because it has the maximum amount of characters 8
I'm in need of some VBA code (to be included in a Macro) that will automatically use the TRIM function for all cells in a whole column and that will then replace the values in that column with the resulting TRIM values. I have a LOT of individual files with varying #'s of records in them, so a way that will address all of them (all the cells in the specified column due to varying #'s of records) would be best.
I'm outputting some cells to a CSV. At first I tried using the SaveAs function but that renamed my worksheet and didn't work for ranges (as far as I know)
Sub Export() 'Set myADPFile = "C:ADPPCPWADPDATAPRSHWEPI.CSV" Dim myADPFile As String myADPFile = "C:PRSHWEPI.CSV" Dim x As Byte x = 5 Open myADPFile For Output As 1 While (Not (Sheet3.Range("A" & x).Value = NA)) Print #1, Trim(Sheet3.Range("B" & x).Value), ",", _ Trim(Sheet3.Range("C" & x).Value), ",", _ Sheet3.Range("D" & x).Value, ",", _ ..........................
The values are correct. However, the excess amount of spaces is not. Using the Write function just encases everything in quotation marks. Replacing spaces isn't a good solution because the first row MUST be in that format, and removing all spaces would require more code to put spaces back in. Is there a way to get rid of all the excess spaces surrounding each value?
How do I trim an extra word. I downloaded a list with an address field and it has an extra city in the address. Ex. 908 Taylor St_Wake Forest_Wake Forest How do I get rid of the duplicate state?
I have come up with this to Trim all of the data from rows 2:30 removing any trailing spaces after the last word in each cell. The macro takes a couple of minutes to run have I got something wrong that is making it run slowly or does the Trim process just take longer?
Sub TRIM_RANGE() Dim myRange As Range Dim myRow As Range Sheets("CAMPAIGNS_2007").Select Set myRange = Range("2:30") If myRange Is Nothing Then Exit Sub Application. ScreenUpdating = False myRange.Replace What:=Chr(160), Replacement:=Chr(32), _ LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, MatchCase:=False For Each myRow In myRange.Columns If Application. CountA(myRow) > 0 Then myRow.TextToColumns Destination:=myRow(1), _ DataType:=xlFixedWidth, FieldInfo:=Array(0, 1) End If Next myRow Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub
Is it possible to export Excel cell contents to Word fields in a protected Word document? For example...
What code would be needed to tell Excel to open up, copy and export the contents of A2 in the active sheet of a workbook to "Field 2" in a Word document named "Report 01" and then put the contents of B2 to "Field 2" etc?
Do both applications have to be opened up at the same time or is Excel able to open up Word on its own? Will the macro be able to....
1. Automatically open up the correct Word document?
2. Look ONLY in a certain folder for the "Report 01" Word document?
or
Bring up a "selection" box that allows you to select the document you wish Excel to export it's data to?
3. Close and save the Word Document without any user intervention?
I need to count how many times the word Test is in the range B4:H9 with
Range N2 = Test the formula below works if Test is only in the cell once.
=COUNTIF($B$4:$H$9,"*" & N2 & "*")
But I have data in cells like below, this is all in one cell, so how would I have it count all the times test is in the range when some cells have test 2 or more times in a single cell?
I have some data in Cell A1 and B1, I want that data in combined in one cell but in diffetent lines.. For example if i have 123 in A1 and 456 in B1, I need it to show the result as below in C2
I would like to limit a text cell to 40 characters. If greater than 40 characters are entered, the rest is truncated. Can this be done without VBA?
I have limited it by going Data - Validation
This has done two things. 1. Gives an error box with Error Alert Turned on. 2. Allows greater than 40 characters to be entered if Error alert is turned off.
I have a 28 or 30 columns excel with categories of products (color, size, price, etc...) and I need to have and extra column that has all the previous categories separated by semicolon ";"
Values could be numbers or words, mostly words
Price | color | size |...etc 50 | green | 24 |...etc
generated new column 50;green;24;... etc
If a column is empty then go to the next column, no zero value or two ";;"
I need to add an extra four zeros to a number in a cell - in this case an ID number, so that i can do a lookup from another list. Basically what i have is two lists of ID numbers in a field of a database, in one i have the correct display/format, so that a number would look like 000054454545. In the second list however the number is only shown as 54454545, due to differences in the programs which imported them. I would like to know if its possible to use a function or macro in excel to basically insert the four zeros onto the number ie 0000 + 54454545 = 000054454545 so that i can do a lookup of one for the other.
I have a bunch of cells in column b that have products.
Column B Dell 24" lcd vaio sony laptop 8.0 mpxl kodak camera photoepsonprinter
Basically in Column A I want a formula that'll say.
If the word "dell" is somewhere in cell b1, then put the word "Dell" in cell a1. If the word "sony" is somewhere in cell b1, then put the word "sony" in cell a1.
And then so on and so forth down through column A. The brand names are potentially endless, so is there a easy way to on like a seperate sheet make a list of brand names and have it pull from there?
Originally I made a if function that said if the brand name was contained in the cell then output the brand name, but that caps at 7 for the amount of brands i can use....
I need to create extra rows of duplicate data. The number of duplicate rows depends on the number of semi-colons in the 15th column (column O).
Sheet 1 is the original working file. Sheet 2 is the result of how the executed macro for the first 2 lines of data. The first line in sheet 1 has 7 semi-colons, so there should be 7 rows of duplicate data created in sheet 2. The second line in sheet 1 has 6 semi-colons, so 6 duplicate lines, etc.
I have an excel program that is supposed to count word instances in a word document. I can't seem to find the right declaration for a word document. For example to declare a workbook in excel its
Dim wb As Work Book
I've tried
Dim doc As Word.Document 'or Dim doc As Word.Application
as shown in some of the forum posts, but an error user-type not defined keeps displaying.
Using Excel 2007. I have a limit of 80 characters and spaces in a particular cell and I need to force those characters/spaces over 80 to the next cell. Is that possible?
I have columns that are defined with these width's: A - 9B - 1C - 12D - 12
I need a macro that would add spaces to the right of the cell if the cell does not have number of characters of the lenght of the column width.
For instance: Cell A1 has 5 characters so it would need 4 spaces. Cell A2 has 7 characters so it would need 2 spaces. Cell B1 has 1 character so it would NOT need a space. Cell B2 has 0 characters so it would need 1 space.
I need to do a lookup on these cells but for some reason they all appear to have some kind of space characters in each cell which you can see if you double click on them. I have tried trims, text to columns, find replaces and none of these seem to work
I have a huge list of these numbers / codes and they all have the weird space kind of characters at the end
Can anyone give me a solution on how to remove them so my lookup will work?
I'm trying to match in the example, 'Name 1' which will pick the number below name 1. However if I have any space before, ' Name 1' in cell A1 than it won't match. I've put in wildcards in the formula but it still doesn't pick up the space? I need the formula to pick up either no spaces, or any number of spaces before or after 'Name 1'.
I'm trying to add rows based on the numeric value in column I. For an example, if I2 value is 2, add 2 rows below row 2 and keep the same interior color. Is it possible???
I have a column with 11 digit numbers formatted as text (Column C) and it seems like there's three spaces after the number (In Sheet A). I am trying to do a vlookup comparing Sheet A to Sheet B. It's not working and not sure if it's the extra spacing in the cell of Sheet A that's causing the Vlookup not to work.
I would like to compare both lists to see what UPC's are on both sheets. Any ideas how I can do this?
In Sheet A, Column C contains UPC (11 digits) 07845968952
I know how to pad cells with zeros for a numeric field. I can't figure out how to custom format a cell to pad a text field with spaces.
If I want description to have 10 characters, if they enter BLUE I want it to be BLUE then 5 spaces to make a total of 10) if they enter RED I want it to be RED with 7 spaces to make a total of 10.
With a number, I can just enter 00000 and if I enter 4, it will be 00004 Can you do this type of thing with a text? I can figure out a formula to get what I need, but I want a way to do it directly into the cell when the user types it in.
