Inserting An Extra 4 Zeros To The Front Of A Number In A Cell
Jun 19, 2006
I need to add an extra four zeros to a number in a cell - in this case an ID number, so that i can do a lookup from another list. Basically what i have is two lists of ID numbers in a field of a database, in one i have the correct display/format, so that a number would look like 000054454545. In the second list however the number is only shown as 54454545, due to differences in the programs which imported them. I would like to know if its possible to use a function or macro in excel to basically insert the four zeros onto the number ie 0000 + 54454545 = 000054454545 so that i can do a lookup of one for the other.
i have to copy and paste values from an sap program over to excel spreadsheets, and I usually do about 15 at a time that end up in a column: 15 different cells. The value I am copying are ID numbers that all begin with zero and excel automatically removes the zeros at the front of each number. Is there a formula/process for preventing this.
I want to remove the front zero(s) from the front and put a space before the last two letters for the following column of data in Excel:
0001MG 0020MG 0100MG 1000MG
Final result will have this format and the data are right aligned. 1 MG 20 MG 100 MG 1000 MG
The numbers can vary (e.g. 0150MG, 0025MG,etc.) but the arrangement is always the same: four figures for the first 4 characters and two letters for the last two characters. The format of the cells containing the data is: “General”
My table has 7 columns and these data are in the 5th column in a worksheet called “ProductSummary”. The number of rows for the records can vary from 10 to over a couple of hundred.
How can I use VBA to: 1) automatically select the table range in that worksheet and reformat all the data in the 5th column.
i want to know how to prefix a minus sign (-) before numbers in cells in a large range.i m working on a large sheet containing the Numbers with Cr and Dr as suffixes just like 445Dr ... 3331Cr and so..on... in the worksheet
i want to know the method of deleting the suffixes and prefixing - sign infront of numbers having Cr as the suffix.
Numbers with Dr as suffix denote positive numbers and numbers with Cr suffix denote negative numbers. i want to prefix the -minus sign in front of numbers having Cr in the end.
I have an excel sheet which contains the data in blue. In another sheet I have the same data but with an extra code (red). For my question I have put both in one sheet. My problem is that I need to combine the extra code info in the sheet with the blue data. Both the blue column and first red column are identical.
the Ruler across the top that allows you to adjust the column widths (A B C D etc). Is it possible to insert another Ruler, further down the same page, to allow you to adjust the column width differently. if so how. On Excel 2007
I have a sheet where some data is entered in A1 to C1 and i use concatenate to string them together. The problem is in cell C1, where I used cell format to customize the number of zeros in front of the number.
EG: A1: Photos B1: 2013 C1: 00001
the concatenate result is Photos2013\1, instead of the desired result of Photos2013\0001.
I have a question, how do i display a number 0 in front of another number? Example, I am working with these zipcodes and there is a 000213 but it only shows up as 213 in the cell. Is there a way for it to be 000213 with out me using the tilde sign `000213?
I have a sheet with column A. This column A contains numbers from 1 number to 6 numbers.
So, one cell can have a '1' or a '999999' or any combination between them. Now this is the problem.
I want a formula that will fill those cells that don't contain a number up to 6 digits. So if a cell contains '254' I will like this formula to fill the cell like this: 000254.
This should happen with any number that don't have a number with six digits.
78 should be 000078, 78652 should be 078652 and so on.
I have a worksheet to keep track of products. I use an SKU column with a Unique Number to keep track of those items on the shelves.
When I started my project I never imagined that my database would grow as large as it has. I started my SKU numbers with 80000, never suspecting that I would get to 90000. I am now at 125700. Many items have been removed / sold so it only encompases only 15500 rows.
On the site that I sell these Items, the SKU's when displayed start with 100000 and go to 125700 where 80000 is next and goes to 99999? ( or the reverse depending on which tab I choose ) Not sure why this is but there is nothing I can do to change the way they do it so I must find a way to change my system. With all the 80000 - 99999 items numbered - changing them to 6 digit 125700+ numbers would be a huge undertaking so I would like to add a 0 in front of each 5 digit Number in my SKU Column. That way my items will show 080000- 125700 instead of starting in the middle.
I do keep the column my ascending order so it is currently formated as a Number. I do at times copy an paste or pull ranges items by SKU numbers to mark down or modify.
When I place a 0 manually in front of 80000- it disappears when I move from the Cell.
If I change it to a TEXT cell- it stays in place.
Excel help doesnt answer my dilemma-- nor does my book.
I see there are masks etc -- or is just text OK ? (as I stated - I do use an numbered order or range to identify groups of items at times )- if text is OK, what is the best way to add a 0 to the start of each 5 digit number other than individually ?
There are Gaps in my sequence so I cannot just replace the first cell with 080000 and pull down.
with the data in the attached sheet, I create several different pivot tables that need show the count of the information in the columns M:DU. My issue is that the data is sent to me from a third party and the columns contain zeros that cause the counts to inflate.
What I would like to be able to do is run a macro that will search out any zeros in M:DU and replace them with a blank cell.
Unfortunately the number of rows increases with every monthly reporting cycle so the macro would need to be able to accommodate for that.
I am working on an online archive database and I need to insert "<!--More-->" (without the quotes) after 80 words in a number of cells populated with 500+ word stories. I browsed here for a while to no avail.
I have a list of numbers with 2, 3, and 4 digits. Is there a formula that can recognize if there are only 2 digits, it will add 2 zeros in front of the number.
For example,
47 will become 0047 234 will become 0234 1234 will become 1234
If you look at the attached file in Column E line 47 you will see that it displays 373.97. However if you look in the formula bar it shows 373.9694. I am trying to make it so that the formula bar shows the same number as in the cell. Any idea on how to do this? I have tried everything I know how to do, which is not much.
I can't seem to make user-defined format that puts a text in front of a number and/or a text.
Let's say I have A1: 13, A2: texttext A3: text7 and I want to format a lot of cells to "Ilike 13" / "Ilike texttext" / "Ilike text7"... ie add the same text in the front of the cell, no matter what the content is.
I did manage it seperately, with "texttext" @ for text and "texttext" # for numbers, but what's the general one?
I have a formula that looks at a cell on a front sheet, and then returns the contents of that cell as the result if it meets the criteria. So for example this formula would be in Cell A1 on Sheet2 IF(SHEET1!A1,"New",Sheet1!A1,"-")
This formula is always in the same cell (different sheet) as the cell that it is looking at, down 1500 rows. Instead of having the formula named for each cell is there anyway to ask excel to 'look at this cell but on this other sheet'. e.g IF(Sheet1!"This Cell" etc). That way no matter what cell you put the formula in it is always referencing the correct cell for the formula?
I have a bunch of rows that overlap other cells after using the format painter. My workaround has been to drag the row down to reveal the cell values. What's a better way to highlight many rows and do this in one shot? Adjusting each row to reveal text isn't efficient. I would like to not use macros either to solve this problem.
I am working with a column which always displays the cell contents with oldest notes by date first, then the newest note last. I would like to have the contents from a cell reversed with the newest user input by date on top which will simply when reading. Here is an example of a cell. The string always starts with (MM/DD/YYYY TT:TT:TT AM, then user name).

I'm using Excel 2007 and am using a look up formula =isna(match( cell, cell range, 0)) to see whether a number in one column occurs in another column.
I have been doing this process successfully for over a year on Excel 2003 and more recently on Excel 2007. This is until today, when it's stopped doing what I expect - could I have changed a setting?
The correct number format for this sheet should be 0000 (so now '67' will appear as '0067' or '290' will appear as '0290' etc.) So I have applied this Custom Format to my columns: '0000' After applying the Custom Format to the spreadsheet the numbers appear correctly - 560 now appears as 0560 - BUT in the formula bar they still only appear as the original format - so 560 is STILL 560 rather than 0560 as it should be!
As a result of this, my look up is not looking for the number in the new format, it's still looking for the number in its original format - so a look up for 0560 is actually returning results for anything with 560 in it: 560, 5600, 5601, 56000, 56007 etc. I need my look up to be looking for 0560 NOT 560.
How do I force the numbers to become 4 digits in the formula bar so that my look up for 0560 only finds a match with a cell containing 0560 and not 560, 5600, 5601, 56000, 56007 etc.
I have a large excel spreadsheet which looks at a number of test results for students in school. The worksheet being prepared by marcos to display different class results dependent on the teacher select so they can view their class data. The sheet works fine and does all I need but have a fault with the transfer of test results which contain zeros. These are transfered with the zero missing even if the zero is in the middle of the number eg 203. The display if zeros is not suppressed and I have no format to suppress zeros but also understand these commands on suppress empty cells containing just zero.
This code will bring up the fault shown above and will loose zeros so 10 on source sheet becomes 1 and 102 becomes 12
I wondered if the SUBSTITUTE command is causeing issues but cannot remember quite what this command does - may have copied from elsewhere and not fully understood it.
The following code is used elsewhere on the same worksheet to display the same test result but in a individual pupil format rather than as a class sheet.
This picks up the same result but does not suppress the zeros. It cannot be used to do the job of the upper code as it reads from the original source where as the upper line of code reads from a central point which does not change so the data from 6 different areas is copied into this area.
These are not part of macros just in a cell. The cells are not formatted and then right click format cell is just "general".
Needless to say I need to know what I have done wrong to get the test result to be displayed incorrectly so I can correct it to get the sheet right.
I'm trying to convert a set of numbers between 1 and 9999 into text strings, with the number at the end as a four digit string, so 1 becomes "COLUMN0001", 123 becomes "COLUMN0123", etc. In excel, it would be easy - I would just use the text function and convert the number to a string and append it to the word COLUMN, but as far as I know, there isn't an equivalent function in excel and running excel functions in VBA is notoriously slow (especially as I will need to do this about 360,000 times).
I have been using a piece of code to save a workbook and name it as the value in a cell, for a long time the value in the cell has been alphanumeric and all has worked well. I now need to save the workbook as a 6 digit number and it has to include the leading zeros.
VB: Sub Name () Dim stBatch1 As String Range("Batch").NumberFormat = "000000" [code]....
With 000001 in the cell called Batch all that gets returned is 1, I have tried changing stBatch1 from String to Integer and that returns -1, I have also moved the NumberFormat around to various places in the code and mostly it just returns True.
I have a vba macro that takes data from one workbook and pastes it into another workbook. In doing this I have declared a few variables of type single (I only need two decimal precision). However, when I copy the values from the cells on the source workbook and paste them into the target workbook, the numbers end up having 12 decimal places. Ultimately, this extra precision causes my totals to be off by .01 or more after a while. I have tried rounding the number as I pull it off the source workbook into the variable, but that didn't matter. How do I solve this problem? Code for pulling data from source workbook:...
