If you try to use this it will not work, as excel takes only 7 arguments

Nesting Index / Match Function Within Vlookup Function?

Dec 3, 2013

let me start by saying that I know an example workbook would be useful here, but the part I'm struggling with is the [managementroster.xlsm] file, and there is A. no way I can release it to the internets and B. its so huge/complicated I couldn't even begin to reproduce a portion of it, scrubbed of data, and hope to maintain its functionality in a meaningful manner.

[Code]....

This formula checks a staff number on this spreadsheet, and then goes and looks at the staff number on the roster. Once found, it returns that staff members roster, but changes any manager codes in the MRC list to Mgr, and changes all other roster codes to Free.

I now need this formula, before altering roster codes to Mgr or Free, to only return codes that are a match for another table (or after really. I don't particularly care, so long as only codes are shown that match data from another table). I think an index/match function would do the trick, but this forumula is already at the edge of my excel ability, nesting another function within it is completey beyond me. The relevant cells for the index/match function would be:

This first Match function targets the column. $E3 is the date required, $BA$1:$DN$1 is the range the dates are entered in
Match: Lookup value = $E3
Lookup array = '[ManagementRoster.xlsm]Vacancies!'$BA$1:$DN$1
match type = 0

This second Match function targets the row. $A$4 is the department name, $B$434:$B$452 is the range where all departments are entered

Match: Lookup value = $A$4
Lookup Array = '[ManagementRoster.xlsm]Vacancies!'$B$434:$B$452
match type = 0

Index: array = $BA$434:$DN$452

So I think my final function is

[Code] .....

But I have absolutely NO idea where it would fit within my first formula, or how to code it so that my original formula only reproduces results that are found in both sheets, or anything.

The actual value of Cell P34 is DKK1938.22 so I expect it to return £203.68 in cell Q34.

Average Function: Multiple Arguments

Nov 19, 2006

I need some assistance in using an array formula which averages based on multiple arguments. The relevent range names in my input data are:

Col A - Manager Col B - Report Type Col C - Days taken to Complete

and I have used Validation Lists to include several different Managers and 5 Report Types which I'll call A - E, with Days taken to Complete an input. Each Manager may have 0 to numerous instances of each report during each period.

I'm trying to build a table which includes each manager and the average number of days taken to complete each report. The complication is that, while Report A & B are separate reports, for this purpose I need to get an average for A & B together.

For C, D & E, I have used the following:
{=AVERAGE(IF((Type="C")*(Manager="Smith"),Days_taken_to_Complete))}

For A&B, I have tried:

{=AVERAGE(IF((Type="A")*(Type="B")*(Manager="Smith"),Days_taken_to_Complete))}

but this doesn't work. Could someone please advise me the correct formula if either of two states in a named range are to be used to average a second named range?

VBA Join Function For Unknown Number Of Arguments

Feb 13, 2012

have a function that takes an unknown number of ranges (worksheet cells) as arguments that can then be joined with the provided delimiter.

It should ignore null values.

I saw that someone posted the following line of code:
Replace(WorksheetFunction.Trim(Join(myArray)), " ", ",")

So I guess my real question is how to pass an unknown number of arguments into a function and put the values in an array.

Applying Function Arguments As A Control/class Name

Mar 16, 2007

I'm not sure what verbage to use in order to describe what I'm trying to accomplish.

Let me give you a piece of code and the question will be clear.

Function addValuesToComboBox(arg1)
arg1.AddItem("one")
arg1.AddItem("two")
arg1.AddItem("three")
End Function

I would like to use this function later in the code in the form of:

addValuesToComboBox("Combobox1")
addValuesToCombobox("Combobox2")

VBA will error out with "Run-time error '424': Object required". I know I need to declare the variable arg1 as a type in order to use it in this form, but I don't know the correct data type.

I also ran across a similar issue like this where the advice was to use the Set function in the form of:

Function addValuesToComboBox(arg1)
Set arg1 = arg1.AddItem("one")
Set arg1 = arg1.AddItem("two")
Set arg1 = arg1.AddItem("three")
End Function

Excel 2013 :: Enter Multiple Arguments In IF Formula

Aug 21, 2013

I need entering multiple arguments in an IF formula in Excel 2013. Here is the formula with just 1 argument.

=IF(SUM($G$4:G15)>3000,G15*0.8,0)

I need to combine it with the following.........

=IF(SUM($G$4:G15)>10000,sum($G$4:G15)-G15,0)

So to say, if the sum totals more than 3000 but less than 10000, then I want the cell value (G15) multiplied by 80% (.80). if it is greater than 10000, i want the sum minus 10000. If both arguments are false (sum totals less than 3000) then the value placed should be 0.

Nesting "if" Function: Fragment Marked In Red Is Currently Missing

Feb 23, 2009

In L45 I need function

=IF(L41>0,IF(L44>0,IF(K44>0,(L44-K44)-L42,IF(J44>0,(L44-J44)-L42,IF(I44>0,(L44-I44)-L42,IF(H44>0,(L44-H44)-L42,IF(G44>0,(L44-G44)-L42,IF(F44>0,(L44-F44)-L42,IF(E44>0,(l44-E44)-l42,L44-L42))))))),L44-L42),0)

Fragment marked in red is currently missing and if I want to use it, I would be nesting too many if functions again. To describe the situation: Row 41 is staff available for task, sometimes there is nobody doing the task therefore function will force value 0 in all variances if there is no staff available.

There are also occasions that despite having a number of staff allocated to do the task, nothing’s been received due to a various reasons, this is where I have designed a function calculating hourly variance against what was received against the planned target for this hour. When there is no staff – everything will be 0
When nothing’s been received – target for the hour will be negative. When there was something received – the difference between last receiving figure and current one, minus target for an hour will provide the hourly rate, but If nothing’s been received for the last couple hours, it will go to the last hour when something was received and calculate hourly rate basing on the difference between current figure, last available figure and target for an hour. And here we are at the heart of the problem – in the last cell I cannot use same function as I would have to nest too many “if” functions, therefore it does not include receiving figure in E44 at the moment.
