Macro: Open Workbook From Microsoft Project

Dec 14, 2006

I have discovered that I can write a macro in Microsoft project that opens Excel

ActivateMicrosoftApp(pjMicrosoftExcel)

but this call does not allow me to specify a file to open, it just opens an instance of Excel (or activates the open instance). What I ultimately want to do it to, from a Project macro, open a particular workbook and then execute a macro in that workbook.

Macro To Copy Data From Excel Worksheet To Microsoft Word Document

Jan 28, 2011

I have a macro set up in Excel that formats and deletes rows matching a citeria. Once the macro runs I then manually copy the data across into Word. I would like to automate this.

I would like the macro to copy over any cells containing data iinto a new word document. I also have standard text that I would like to include at the beginning and end of the word document. With the excel data being placed in the centre.

I have searched the web and tried a couple of macros with no luck. All the macros state "' requires a reference to the Word Object library: ' in the VBE select Tools, References and check the Microsoft Word X.X object library"

I am unsure how to reference this - but I have checked and found that the object library ticked is Microsoft Word 11.0 Object Library.

Workbook To Open Only If Macros Are Enabled

Mar 29, 2009

I have created an Excel Workbook and this Workbook has a VBA code that enforces an expiry date of the workbook (TimeBomb from cpearson.com). So, if the expiry date has passed, the workbook will not open. But since it is VBA related, the expiry date will work only if one has enabled macros. If macros are disabled, the workbook will open regardless of the date.

So, is there a way for Excel to check if macros are enabled? and is there a way for Excel not to open the workbook, if the macros are disabled?

Force Macros Enabled On Workbook Open?

Oct 28, 2013

I'm posting a workbook on our network that I want to enable users to go in and update. I have the workbook designed, with entry fields for the data they need to enter, and they then push "Submit" to submit the new data to a hidden tracking log within the workbook.

Many of the users will be complete Excel newbies, and although I haven't posted the workbook yet, I am trying to anticipate possible issues. The first that comes to mind is that the user opening the workbook may not have macros enabled in their version of Excel, and they will get a message, and can't perform the udpate. Is there a way to add a Workbook Open event that automatically enable macros in the workbook when they open it, even if it is for this workbook only?

VBA Open All Text Files In Excel In Folder And Save Them As Excel File

Dec 7, 2013

I have some daily text files in a folder (so about 30 of them each month), which in the end of month, I need to open them up in excel, format them so that I can use the information for my analysis.

I would like to create a macro, to quickly open them all up at once and save them each individually in .xls or .xlsm format.

I am new to VBA and after some research online, I was able to have the files open with the following code. but now I don't know how to proceed further to save them one by one with the same name but in .xls or .xlsm format.

Sub Opentxtfiles()
Dim MyFolder As String
Dim myfile As String

Microsoft Query: Data Source .xls Files

Trying to work through tutorial on creating offline cube from an Excel file, A CompleteGuide to PivotTables: A Visual Approach, Cornell, ISBN 1-59059-432-0, pg 248. Steps I am taking:

1. Click on Data Menu
2. Import External Data
3. New Database Query

On Databases tab
4. Click on Excel Files*
5. Click on Browse Button

I migrate to the loction of the sample files I downloaded, but no files appear in the Browse Data Sources dialog window. Files of type drop down reveals only "Data Sources" (w/o quotes). I browsed the folder with Windows Explorer. There are several Excel files in the folder as well as sample, .cub and .mdb files. I do have Excel 2007 installed on the PC as well, but working through the tutroail with Excel 2003.

Excel 2010 :: How To Open Files From FTP Location

Nov 19, 2012

I am using xp pro, excel 2010 and the ftp server has linux installed. To open files from server I press open button in excel, then choose ftp location from drop down menu. FTP logon box asks password with the option of default user selected. I provide password and go on.

Some days ago something happened, I don't know what but as a result of it when I opened the FTP logon box, the anonymous option was selected by default. So I selected user option, gave id password and hit ok. It did not connect. Then I removed that ftp location from excel ftp locations. Whenever I tried to add an ftp location, excel restarted stating error message " *** encountered a problem *** ". So I reached a site after some googling and was directed to add the whole ftp file location path in the "File name" box of the open dialog box. It worked and the ftp location was automatically added in ftp locations. [ any ftp setting in excel is automatically transferred to ms word as well]

PROBLEM > Now I have a different problem. I can access ftp folders and subfolders but when I select a file and click open, downloading bar at the bottom of the excel does not start and after a long wait an error message pops up " the internet address ' ftp://192.168.****/folder/subfolder/filename.xls" is not valid. [I can open ftp files using filezilla etc]

Excel 2007 :: How To Open Different Files On Each Of Two Monitors

Feb 15, 2013

I run two monitors and am able to open different files on each monitor which is very handy.

This doesn't seem to work with Excel. If I have two different Excel files open I can only view one at a time. I can move across to the other monitor, but then can only view one at a time on that monitor - very frustrating.

When I was using Excel 2010 on my last job I was shown a clunky, round-about way of being able to open two Excel files, one on each monitor. (By opening one file, opening a new Excel document from there, and then opening the other Excel file from the new document, minimizing that file and dragging it to the other screen).

Now I am using Excel 2007 and am not able to view two different Excel files, one on each screen. how I can do this in Excel 2007?

Setting To Open Files In New Instance Of Excel?

I've read several threads here, but mostly found people trying to accomplish the opposite of what I am.

Open PDF Files Via Macro

How can I code a Macro in Excel to search in a preset directory and pull out, aka open/run a certain Adobe Acrobat .pdf file automatically? Is this even possible to code in Excel Macro or is it out of its scope of what Excel VB code can do?

Protect Excel Files To Open Only On Designated Computers?

Jul 16, 2010

Is it possible to protect an excel file such that it will open up only on designated computers (identified by the computer name or some unique hardware identification like MAC address etc)?I was wondering if the VB editor can be used to do the same.

Let me put my requirement in detail:

I have an excel file "123" created in one computer (named=A). On this computer this file can be opened by anyone.I write a code such a way that, this particular file when copied on to other computers say (B,C & D) would open up as usual. But on computer E or any other computer, it should not open.

I cannot use password protect feature on the file as "n" number of users will be accessing this file on those designated computers. I was finding few of the clients copying the files on their personal drives or email without proper consent.If its possible, I would like to employ the same on few of my word (.doc) files as well.

Save / Convert XML Files In Excel Format Without Open Them Into XLS?

Is there a way to convert all files in folder, in this case, xml in excel format to xls without open them?

I recorded the macro below, but this needs to "Open" and "SaveAs" the current file in folder and there are a few thousands of xml files in folder.

I was wondering if through some ADO or VBA code this can be done without open the files in order to save resources and get the work done faster?

Code:
Sub Convert_XML_to_XLS()

Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:MyPathInputFile.xml"
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="C:MyPathInputFile.xlsx" _

Macro To Open Up Several Files And Update Data?

Aug 12, 2014

I have several workbooks in folder C:Parts &Service where the data needs to be updated with downloaded files in C:extract

I have a macro that allows me to open up a workbook in c:Parts & SVC Sales. One opened I then need to select the appropriate file in C:extract

VB:
Sub Update_Workbooks()
ChDir ("C:Parts & SVC Sales")
Application.DisplayAlerts = False

[Code].....

The are two types of workbooks in C:Parts & SVC Sales "Parts Sales" and "service Sales" . The branch name is at the beginning of the file name

Instead of opening up each file individually in C:Parts & SVC Sales and selecting the appropriate csv file in C:/extract using the Update_Macro, I would like the macro to open up all the files in the directory C:Parts & SVC Sales and update each of these with the appropriate csv file in C:extract

The name and description type must match the csv files and then updated eg Br1 Parts Sales to be updated with csv file Br1 Salesperson 01-07-2014 (the date in the file is not important for match the parts file -the branch name for eg BR1 and "salesperson is) i.e Br1 Parts Sales must select BR1 Salesperson 01-07-2014

BR1 Service Sales Must be updated with Br1 Service order repair register.csv (branch name for eg Br1 in this instance name and Service order repair register (pertain to Service Sales) is important)

Br2 Parts Sales to be updated with Br2 Salesperson
Br2 Service Sales must be updated with Br2 Service order repair register etc
