Concatenate Cell With Customized Number Of Zeros

Sep 20, 2013

I have a sheet where some data is entered in A1 to C1 and i use concatenate to string them together. The problem is in cell C1, where I used cell format to customize the number of zeros in front of the number.

EG:
A1: Photos
B1: 2013
C1: 00001

the concatenate result is Photos2013\1, instead of the desired result of Photos2013\0001.

Concatenate And Retain Trailing Zeros

Dec 10, 2008

I cant seem to figure out how to concatenate data from two cells into one cell and retain trailing zeros. If Cell A1 has ".0000" and cell A2 has ".0005" then I want cell A3 to show:
".0000-.0005".

I get "0-.0005" on my attempts. Alos, how do I make the value an actual number and not a formula?

Inserting An Extra 4 Zeros To The Front Of A Number In A Cell

Jun 19, 2006

I need to add an extra four zeros to a number in a cell - in this case an ID number, so that i can do a lookup from another list. Basically what i have is two lists of ID numbers in a field of a database, in one i have the correct display/format, so that a number would look like 000054454545. In the second list however the number is only shown as 54454545, due to differences in the programs which imported them. I would like to know if its possible to use a function or macro in excel to basically insert the four zeros onto the number ie 0000 + 54454545 = 000054454545 so that i can do a lookup of one for the other.

Filling In Cell With Zeros If Cell Don't Contain Number Up To 6 Digits

Jan 2, 2012

I have a sheet with column A. This column A contains numbers from 1 number to 6 numbers.

So, one cell can have a '1' or a '999999' or any combination between them. Now this is the problem.

I want a formula that will fill those cells that don't contain a number up to 6 digits. So if a cell contains '254' I will like this formula to fill the cell like this: 000254.

This should happen with any number that don't have a number with six digits.

78 should be 000078, 78652 should be 078652 and so on.

Suppress Zeros In A Pivot Table (search Out Any Zeros And Replace With A Blank Cell)

Oct 12, 2009

with the data in the attached sheet, I create several different pivot tables that need show the count of the information in the columns M:DU. My issue is that the data is sent to me from a third party and the columns contain zeros that cause the counts to inflate.

What I would like to be able to do is run a macro that will search out any zeros in M:DU and replace them with a blank cell.

Unfortunately the number of rows increases with every monthly reporting cycle so the macro would need to be able to accommodate for that.

Customized Cell Backgrounds

May 20, 2009

Is there a way to have customized cell backgrounds that are more complex that Excel's preset colors and patterns?. For instance, I have a merged cell (it has to stay merged) with a value that is located at the bottom-center of the merged cell. I want to have either a fading gradient (the top of the cell is white fading to a blue bottom towards the value), or just have the bottom portion of the merged cell colored. I have Excel 2003 so I don't know if any other version has this feature.

Number Format To Keep Leading Zeros

Jun 24, 2008

I'm using Excel 2007 and am using a look up formula =isna(match( cell, cell range, 0)) to see whether a number in one column occurs in another column.

I have been doing this process successfully for over a year on Excel 2003 and more recently on Excel 2007. This is until today, when it's stopped doing what I expect - could I have changed a setting?

The correct number format for this sheet should be 0000 (so now '67' will appear as '0067' or '290' will appear as '0290' etc.) So I have applied this Custom Format to my columns: '0000'
After applying the Custom Format to the spreadsheet the numbers appear correctly - 560 now appears as 0560 - BUT in the formula bar they still only appear as the original format - so 560 is STILL 560 rather than 0560 as it should be!

As a result of this, my look up is not looking for the number in the new format, it's still looking for the number in its original format - so a look up for 0560 is actually returning results for anything with 560 in it: 560, 5600, 5601, 56000, 56007 etc.
I need my look up to be looking for 0560 NOT 560.

How do I force the numbers to become 4 digits in the formula bar so that my look up for 0560 only finds a match with a cell containing 0560 and not 560, 5600, 5601, 56000, 56007 etc.

Suppression Of Zeros Even In The Middle Of Number Fault

May 17, 2013

I have a large excel spreadsheet which looks at a number of test results for students in school. The worksheet being prepared by marcos to display different class results dependent on the teacher select so they can view their class data. The sheet works fine and does all I need but have a fault with the transfer of test results which contain zeros. These are transfered with the zero missing even if the zero is in the middle of the number eg 203. The display if zeros is not suppressed and I have no format to suppress zeros but also understand these commands on suppress empty cells containing just zero.

This code will bring up the fault shown above and will loose zeros so 10 on source sheet becomes 1 and 102 becomes 12

VB : =IFERROR(SUBSTITUTE((VLOOKUP($A11,INDIRECT($H$14),550,False)),"0",""),"")

I wondered if the SUBSTITUTE command is causeing issues but cannot remember quite what this command does - may have copied from elsewhere and not fully understood it.

The following code is used elsewhere on the same worksheet to display the same test result but in a individual pupil format rather than as a class sheet.

VB : =IFERROR(VLOOKUP($C$7,INDIRECT($H$14),888,False),"")

This picks up the same result but does not suppress the zeros. It cannot be used to do the job of the upper code as it reads from the original source where as the upper line of code reads from a central point which does not change so the data from 6 different areas is copied into this area.

These are not part of macros just in a cell. The cells are not formatted and then right click format cell is just "general".

Needless to say I need to know what I have done wrong to get the test result to be displayed incorrectly so I can correct it to get the sheet right.

Join Text With Number With Leading Zeros

Jul 25, 2007

I'm trying to convert a set of numbers between 1 and 9999 into text strings, with the number at the end as a four digit string, so 1 becomes "COLUMN0001", 123 becomes "COLUMN0123", etc. In excel, it would be easy - I would just use the text function and convert the number to a string and append it to the word COLUMN, but as far as I know, there isn't an equivalent function in excel and running excel functions in VBA is notoriously slow (especially as I will need to do this about 360,000 times).

Save Workbook Named As A Number With Leading Zeros?

Sep 15, 2014

I have been using a piece of code to save a workbook and name it as the value in a cell, for a long time the value in the cell has been alphanumeric and all has worked well. I now need to save the workbook as a 6 digit number and it has to include the leading zeros.

VB:
Sub Name ()
Dim stBatch1 As String
Range("Batch").NumberFormat = "000000" [code]....

With 000001 in the cell called Batch all that gets returned is 1, I have tried changing stBatch1 from String to Integer and that returns -1, I have also moved the NumberFormat around to various places in the code and mostly it just returns True.

Excel 2003 :: Average Only If All Cells Contain Number Higher Than Zeros

May 29, 2013

I am trying to do the following.

Monday=0
Tuesday=5
Wednesday=10
Thursday=0
Friday=5
Saturday=0
Sunday=0

Averages
Monday=0
Tuesday=5
Wednesday=7.5
Thursday=0 (I have got a value return of 7.5)
Friday=5
Saturday=0 (I have got a value return of 5)
Sunday=0 (I have got a value return of 5)

I need to work out averages for cells higher than zeros, in other words, I need to ignore those.

Also say I have got an average of 5 by Tuesday and no number yet for the rest of the week, I still get an average of 5 for all days left which I do not want.

I am using excel 2003 and formula =SUM(RANGE)/COUNTIF(RANGE,">=0").

I would also like to hide the annoying #DIV/0! error.

I am trying to concatenate the filled cells from column A into a single cell in column B, which is corresponding to the blank cell in column A. Values should be comma delimited.

For example: A2-blank; A3-27; A4-63; A5-blank; A6-31; A7-blank .. and in column B should be B2-27,63; B3-blank;B4-blank; B5-31,B6-blanc and etc.

Concatenate In A Vlookup To Search For A Resource Number

Mar 4, 2010

what i am trying to do is use concatenate in a vlookup to search for a resource number and date, then return another column in the array.

the formula looks like:
=VLOOKUP(CONCATENATE(D7,$H$6),Roster_Allocation,7,FALSE)
but only results in NA.

if i search for the resource number only, i get the correct result.
also, the res# and date are concatenated in the table array. could this be related to the way excel is storing the dates (40241?) even though both concatenated fields look the same?
i have also tried adding a new coumn which has the res# and dates concatenated as the lookup value but still all NA.

Imaginary Zeros In Formulas Vs. Real Zeros

Nov 7, 2009

I’ve created a formula for this statistic and I’m happy with the results. Because I’m working with formulas, my only problem is the unwanted zeros. How do I hide zeros that show up automatically (i.e. #3 [blank] and Nov 09-June 10)? I can hide the numbers, but if I enter a zero to one of my future statistics it will not appear and I don’t want that to happen. Is there a way to hide those automatic zeros without affecting my real zeros?

Concatenate Text And Numbers And Then Sort On Original Number

Jun 26, 2013

I have a data set that shows numbers for categories over time. I would like to add the data label to the numeric value and then sort the data by the original number. Is this possible?

Here's an example

A 1 2 3 4
B 5 7 4 1
C 8 0 2 1
D 3 4 9 5

I would like each column sorted independently based on the data in that column, but I want the results to have the label from column 1 concatenated with the value in the other columns such as this:

A1 C0 C2 B1
D3 A2 A3 C1
B5 D4 B4 A4
C8 B7 D9 D5

Each column is sorted by the numeric value, but has the name label from column 1 attached to it.
