I've used LOOKUP in the below and it works great.
LOOKUP(C8,{"A","A-","A+","B","B-","B+","C,","C-","C+","D"},{9,8,10,6,5,7,3,2,4,1})),)
But I've not been able to use that knowledge (or Excel help) to get the following to work.
LOOKUP(D108,{<1,>=1,<1.25,>=1.25,},{"D","C","C","")))...etc.
where D108 is in the range <1.0 to >2.0, and the letter grade must correspond to
D108 to Letter Grade
<1.0 D
1-1.25C
1.25-1.5B
1.5-1.75B+
1.75-2.0A
>2.0 A+
I am using the formula: LOOKUP(A1,{"S","M","L","XL"},{"S","M","L","XL"}) on a cell containing: EF-2147.(S) so that it will return a S [or M, L etc. if it were .(M),.(L)] but it just keeps returning #N/A. I tried putting in "(S)" etc. in the lookup formula but it then started returning the wrong letters.
I'm trying to figure out the whole Regular Expression thing...so I figured Hotpepper's EXDATA UDF would be a good place to try and rewrite with Regular Expression...I got it to work...but not sure why as it seems opposite of what I would have expected...
eg pattern [^/d] i thought would give me everything except numerics...but it appears to be giving me numerics....
here's the code and sheet...can someone help explain what's going on? .......
Is there any formula or easy way to automate the changing of a numeric input into words, eg if you input 100 in one cell, the output in another would be "one hundred"?
working with a macro to auto filter out all NON-NUMERICS in a column chosen by the user. heres the code i'm working with now:
Sub DeleteAllAlpha() Dim rTable As Range Dim lCol As Long Dim vCriteria On Error Resume Next With Selection If .Cells.Count > 1 Then Set rTable = Selection Else Set rTable = . CurrentRegion On Error Goto 0 End If End With If rTable Is Nothing Or rTable.Cells.Count = 1 Or WorksheetFunction. CountA(rTable) < 2 Then............................
I have a column of cells, some blank, some containing just numbers, some containing just letters, some containing numbers preceded by the the letter 'p'
E.g.
frt 34.2 36
p34.5
In the cells containing the number preceded by the 'p' - i would like to remove the 'p' leaving just the number, with all other cells remaining unchanged.
Is there a VBA command to get the letters, instead of the numbers, of the column of a selected cell?
I have to letter a list whihc means setting up a loop using character codes.
I may have to go into double letters so I am working on how I would set up the loop for if and when it gets past 90 and starts on double letters. so far the highest is the letter "U"
of course the easiest would be to pick up a column value as a letter
I have a table of data (say Column1 to Column 5) with multiple rows.
Column 1 to 4 will have the lookup values in multiple rows and Column 5 data should be picked up using vlookup or other lookup function.
I managed to somehow bring all these lookup values in (Column 1 to 4) in a single column in another sheet. I am now trying to use some lookup or other functions to match this single column and pick column 5 data in original sheet. Result i am expecting is lookup value in first column and next to it column 5 value.
It is basically a lookup wherein lookup value is spread over multiple rows and columns and result column is fixed. I tried using vlookup, but lookup value column and column number had to change every time when i moved from column1 to 4.
Excel offers many ways to use a key to lookup a value (VLookup, Index/Match, DGet, and the rest). What's the fastest way to perform a lookup of a small table of, say, 30 rows of key-value pairs? Theoretically, it would be most efficient to use a branch table (also known as a jump table). See the wikipedia article for branch tables: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branch_table. Does Excel/VBA have a way to create a branch table for such lookups?
I want to be able to lookup if anywhere in a cell contains a word from a list of words, and then provides an output.
Column G: VAT payment HMRC payment Pay VAT
I have a table on the side that shows: Column Y Column Z VATHMRC HMRC HMRC
ie. If anything in column G matches one of the words in Column Y, then output the Column Z. I have use a Vlookup that works for the first two, as VAT is the first thing, but dont know how to make it work if the key word is in the middle of the cell.
I have a workbook with 2 different types of sheet - 1 containing source data and the others 'collecting' data from the source sheet, depending on what the sheet is for.
For example, the data source contains different pets, their names, ages and their owners.
The other sheets are on a one-per-owner basis.
What I would like to do is use a LOOKUP / MATCH function to lookup the owner name typed in cell A1 of the output sheet and match it with the corresponding owner name(s) on the source sheet. I would then like it to return with each pet and append the results on the sheet accordingly - like below:
John Smith (in cell A1)
Pet - Name - Age ------------------- Dog - Rover - 3 Goldfish - Tom - 1 Gerbil - Chewit - 4
I am trying to perform a lookup (vlookup) function in a cell in excel and wish to have the range as a variable, so that I can adjust which column the lookup function refers to.
I'm making my own gradebook (attached) and one of my sheets will list scores for each student in different assignments. I have one sheet which keeps track of all students and all assignments with other info. I would like to program cells in one sheet (the third in the attached file) to lookup a particular student's grade in a particular assignment. I figured trying a LOOKUP with an AND requirement might work but it keeps returning the message "could not find value".
My formula references the student's name and the assignment from the identifying cells so that it is easy to copy and paste. I wondered if it was this which resulted in the error, but doubt it.
I would like to create a column with letters from alphabet in a sequence. If I write A and in cell below I put B then highlight the two cells and drag down I get a repetition of A and B. How do I get the following alphabet letters ie. C,D, E etc.?
I created this data worksheet with many tabs and multiple users. On the main tab, something weird has happened and I have no clue how it happened or how to fix it....
I have a validation drop down box type thing... when I select the drop down, the lower-most option is highlighted as a default. How do I make it so that the upper-most option is highlighted first?
I have a few columns of letters (ranging from A to Z) - onyl one letter per cell. I need to be able to deduct them such that they result in a numeric difference (ie D-B=2, D-A=3). Is there any way this can be done in VBA? (The actual columns are in a word table, so would be great if there was a VBA way to do this, not an excel function).
