Lookup Value In A Cell Based On Value In Opposite Cell

I need to find the value in cell range A:10 A:242 based on
the search criteria found in G:10 H:242
In Column A I have a number of differnet country codes and for 2 of them I want to change the value in Column B. For Example if cell A1 is = to "SHA" I want cell B2 to be "SHANGHAI". If cell A1= to "SGN" I want B1 to be = to "HO CHI MINH". If cell A1 is = to anything else I want the value to B2 to remain unchanged.

I have a worksheet, example data below, it has 150+ columns and varying amounts of rows 1 -> 2500+ per column. The row data is as follows:
Row 1: Has title of worksheet
Row 2: Date of the column
Row 3: Total of completed for the day
Row 4 - n: Serial number
I need to intsert a new column to the right of each column and then populate it with the date at the top of the column from the left, I need the new date value to go down until it reaches the end of the data in the left column. So effectivly each serial number will have date in the column to its right.
There are no blanks in the rows, or blank columns.

I have a spreadsheet that is updated daily with data that falls into one of two categories: a) completely new to the sheet or b) existing from the day before but not taken care of yet. The items which fall into category a are evaluated, and notes added to the sheet. The items in category b must be compared to the new data, and duplicated lines deleted but notes from previous evaluation must be kept on the sheet. In addition, anything on the sheet that is not included in the new information needs to be deleted. I've set up a sheet with all old and new data with dates the data showed up as well as the notes associated with the old data, and have concatenated all the info from each row into column V (from another suggestion I got on a similar but not exactly the same problem which I also still haven't figured out). The sheet has been sorted by col V so any matching rows should be within 3 or 4 rows of the original. The problem is that my code does absolutely zilch!
Sub DeleteRepeatedRows()
' goes through coord. sheet and identifies duplicated lines, copies the date from the old row
' copies it into the new line, then deletes the old line
Dim rCell As Range
For Each rCell In Selection
If rCell.Value = rCell.Offset(1, 0).Value Then
rCell.EntireRow.Delete
End If
If rCell.Value = rCell.Offset(2, 0).Value Then
rCell.EntireRow.Delete
End If.........................................
I am developing a Workbook where I import data to one worksheet and then disseminate it to other worksheets. I am not sure if I am overthinking the process, but I am having difficulty writing the macro and getting it to run through the entire list of rows.
There are 4 Columns in the one worksheet, named "Update":
Column A supplies the name of the worksheet that will be updated
Columns B-D contain the data that will update the sheets.
The process that I am trying to write the macro for is a follows:
1. Select/copy the range, starting with B1:D1 on "Update"
2. Navigate to the appropriate worksheet to be update, determined by A1
3. Identify the first blank row, starting with A5
4. Paste the data B1:D1 to A5:C5 (or next available line)
5. Navigate back to "Update" and begin the process again with the next row B2:D2
This process should continue until there is no value in Column B on the "Update" worksheet.
I'm looking for a formula that I can put in BA2 in a sheet called Data, and copy the formula down the column.
If Data AE2 is blank, Data BA2 should be blank.
If there is a number in AE2, the formula should look for the matching number in another sheet called Index, in Index column G. The matching number can be in any row, but will only appear once in the whole column.
For the row number that has the pair, look in Index column AG and copy the value in that cell to Data BA2.

Imagine column A sorted by invoice numbers. Column B has payments applied but due to movement between unapplied cash, some numbers appear as negatives and positives for the same invoice number.
I want to have a formula which says that for each invoice number, look in column b and eliminate opposite numbers and post only unique values. Keep in mind that there may be multiple lines with the same invoice number.
For example, starting with line 5, for invoice 123, payments 400 and -400 in line 5 and 17 and payments 315 and -315 in lines 7 and 9 will zero out but any other unique payment will be picked up and displayed in column C. Lines 5 and/or 17 will be blank in column C.
I have a Macro that I use daily on a spreadsheet I get with raw line-item transaction data on it. Basically, it deletes columns I don't need to look at, applies column headers, deletes certain rows that I don't need to look at, applies an auto-filter and filters to the first group of data I need to look at, and puts a subtotal on a couple of columns at the top so I can see totals on filtered results.
I need an additional function in this Macro. At some point in the middle of the actions above, I need to evaluate all rows and delete those that are 'opposites' based on a couple of criteria. Basically, I need to delete any transactions that have been refunded in their entirety, because for my purposes those are zeroed out and I don't want to see them....
Lets say that you have three cells. The contents of the cells are 1, 2, 3. The contents 1 and 2 have the strikethrough and 3 does not.
How can you perform a lookup from within another cell to find the cell whose content does not have the strike through? (This could also be a search based on finding the cell that does not have the red background etc...)
In my sheet I do a vlookup for the value in column A in another worksheet. What I would like to do is depending on a value in column C the vlookup would look in a different worksheet. So if the value of "C1" were "AP" the vlookup would go to, for example, table1.xls/sheet1. Say down the line I wanted to change the value of "C1" or the value of column C in another row was "GNR" the vlookup formula would look to table2.xls/sheet1.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a spreadsheet an excerpt of which is as follows:
K L M N
1 Doors Security Vehicle Key
2 TRUE FALSE FALSE FALSE
3 FALSE TRUE TRUE FALSE
4 FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE
Want I want to happen is to return the column header where there for a cell which contains "TRUE" in a blank column. If there isn't a cell with the value "TRUE" then to return "N/A". In the above example in blank column P for Row 2 would be "Doors", Row 3 would be "Security,Vehicle" and Row 4 would be "N/A".
In my actual spreadsheet I have 12 columns (L to W) which have the TRUE or FALSE values.
I know it has something to do with either HLOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH but can't seem to get it right. Any ideas?
I have a 3 column table with 20 rows. The first two columns contain travel
expense data. The cells in the third column are blank exept for whichever
cell I enter an "x" in. Please let me what formula or worksheet function do
I use to calculate the travel expenses based on the data in the first two
columns that correspond to the row of the cell with an "x" in the third
column?
I need the array portion of a lookup formula to change based on a cell value.
On a worksheet(named "groupings")that groups students according to ability level, I have data validation lists where teachers select the criteria for the group. In cell I5 they choose the period, and in cell L5 they select which assessment to look at.
Cell B8 will either say high low or medium. Then in cell C8 I have this formula: Lookup_Occurence($B$8, ??????, 1,1,2)
Again the array will depend on what is entered in cell I5 and cell L5.
I have attached one of the worksheets the lookup_occurence will be referencing. In this exit card worksheet if cell B10 (the name of the assessment) matches what the teacher chose in cell L5 on the groupings worksheet, then the array formula will be 'Exit Card'!Card1. If cell G10 matches what the teacher chose in cell L5, then the array would be 'Exit Card'!Card2. Where A9:C339 is named Card1 and cell F9:H339 is card2 etc.....
However, it gets even more complicated then that because within Card1 there are 8 periods, and if a teacher chose period 1 in cell I8 on the groupings sheet, then I only need the array to look at the period one data in the card1 array.
Essentially what I am trying to accomplish is create a page where teachers can group students by ability level according to any assessment they choose. On the exit card page the formulas currently equaling # Div/0 will say either high, med, or low depending on how a student performs on that assessment.
I want to be able to send out one “master” workbook with the fourteen ranges, and use a pull-down list (or anything else) so when the user selects a state, the proper lookup range will be used. In the attached abbreviated example, I want the lookups in Column B to refer to the state designated in B2. In this case, the VLOOKUP works correctly, since Colorado zip codes are in the ColZip range.
The people in Idaho or Oregon using this will only be working with their respective zip codes in ranges IdaZip or OreZip, so if they enter their state in B2, I would like the VLOOKUP to look in a different range. My whole idea is to only have one master workbook so I don’t have to create one for each district office. Maybe I’m thinking in a wrong direction altogether.
I am setting up a worksheet (1) with a full list of part numbers supplied, cost etc. ie:
Part Description Price Qty
1234 Blah Blah £1.00 1
1235 Blah Blah £3.00 0
1236 Blah Blah £2.00 2
And I have set up a seperate worksheet (2) as an invoice. What I have been trying to do is when I enter a qty in worksheet (1), worksheet (2) will reconise an entry in the qty colum an copy selected fields/ cells. I can do a "=" or use an "if" statement looking at anything greater than "0". but is there a way I can get the invoice worksheet to ignore any lines with "0". So it will only copy over the information with only qtys for the invoice ?.
I have an items list on page 2. On page 1 I want to create a drop down menu in C2 that references the list on page 2. Then when I choose an item, I want the additional information in cells D2 and E2 to come in automatically. The list on page 2 will be expanding daily, and when I expand it I can simply insert a new row so I correctly alphabatize it instead of constantly having to resort it.
With that said....
1. How do you put in the drop down box that references information on a different sheet?
2. What is the best way to reference the information in my ever expanding situation: Index/Match, Vlookup, Lookup, or something I havent mentioned?
I am trying to hide/unhide columns based on what is return to cell C2 from this lookup (=VLOOKUP(B2,GM!E2:M129,9,FALSE)). It can only return 3,6 or 9
If it returns 3 I want to hide columns I:P
If it returns 12 I want to hide columns E:L
If it returns 6 I want to hide E:H and M:P
I have been trying to work with this code which I found on this forum but I haven't been able to get it working fully. It only works when C2 is entered rather than calculated and I can't get it working for the M:P part of the third option.
Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim Changed As Range
Set Changed = Range("C2")
If Not Intersect(Target, Changed) Is Nothing Then
Range("A:Z").EntireColumn.Hidden = False

I have two spreadsheets.
spreadsheet 1:
Lookup from Order numbers listed from A5:A177.
requested formula in I5: I would like a lookup to sheet 2 based on the order number (F19:F191), to return the cell above the first non-blank value.
spreadsheet 2:
Lookup value:Order number listed from F19:F191.
Data search:AY19:CI191
return the (date) which is in the range above the data search from row AY18:CI18.
I've had a look at few forums but i'm getting mixed responses, having to use index / match / lookup / min / --.
I have a UDF for a lookup_occurrence formula (thanks to Dave), and I was wondering if it was possible to tweak the range it looks at with if statements.
I have a formula like this =Lookup_Occurence(B13, INDIRECT($N$5), 1,1,5) where N5 says exit card 1.
I need it to only look at a certain rows within exit card 1 depending on the value entered in I5.
If value I5 says Period_1 it will only look in rows 12:46.
If value I5 says Period_2 it will only look in rows 48:82 etc.
I believe I need to modify the xl look part of the code with if statements.
Below is the code. I am wondering if I can replace the xlLook line with nested if statements. If I5="Period_1 then rows 12:46" etc.
Function Lookup_Occurence(To_find, Table_array As Range, _
Look_in_col As Long, Offset_col, Occurrence As Long, _
Optional Case_sensitive As Boolean, Optional Part_cell_match As Boolean)
Dim lLoop As Long
Dim rFound As Range
Dim xlLook As XlLookAt
Dim lOcCheck As Long
I'm looking to create a macro that will take data from an input sheet, and paste it into a cell in another worksheet, based on criteria specified in sheet1.
Specifically in the attached example, the macro would copy the data in cells C8:C10 of sheet 1, then paste them into sheet 2 based on the data specified in cell B3 i.e. it would paste them into the column headed Mar-09. I intend to make this cell a drop down, so that the user can then select the next reporting month and run the macro again to paste the data into the Apr-09 column.
I am looking for a way to do what i would call a dual vlookup.
i have some data in a number of sheets and need to do some consolidation into a summary sheet. problem is, not all the sheets have data in the same columns and rows but all the data is the same.
what i am trying to do is something like
vlookup("a",sheet2!A:M,***need to put the column of the data here***,0)
i cant just put in the column number because it changes on each sheet, need some way to do another lookup there, like an hlookup or something, so that i could lookup which column contained 'sales' and return that number so it can be put into the vlookup.
I want to be able to lookup if anywhere in a cell contains a word from a list of words, and then provides an output.
Column G:
VAT payment
HMRC payment
Pay VAT
I have a table on the side that shows:
Column Y Column Z
VATHMRC
HMRC HMRC
ie. If anything in column G matches one of the words in Column Y, then output the Column Z. I have use a Vlookup that works for the first two, as VAT is the first thing, but dont know how to make it work if the key word is in the middle of the cell.
I have a workbook with 2 different types of sheet - 1 containing source data and the others 'collecting' data from the source sheet, depending on what the sheet is for.
For example, the data source contains different pets, their names, ages and their owners.
The other sheets are on a one-per-owner basis.
What I would like to do is use a LOOKUP / MATCH function to lookup the owner name typed in cell A1 of the output sheet and match it with the corresponding owner name(s) on the source sheet. I would then like it to return with each pet and append the results on the sheet accordingly - like below:
John Smith (in cell A1)
Pet - Name - Age
-------------------
Dog - Rover - 3
Goldfish - Tom - 1
Gerbil - Chewit - 4
I get a report each day with a list of issues. the "group" that works the issue and the "priority". Based on these two factors, i need to do a double lookup (vlookup?) to another tab or file to match the priority and group and see what value should be brought back for each lines results. For example, if group1 had a prority3 issue, the lookup would find the value from the other sheet or file and bring back the value and put it at the end of the row where the formula is.
Attached are examples of the sheets.

Source tab contains vital information about some clients.
In the aggregated tab (Cell C10) I created a formula that pulls the Inflows from the source in a very specific array. So for client 1, this works fine. Now, if i copy my formula to the client 2 (Cell C14), it obviously wont go and look in the correct array in my source.
What i need to do is to be able to copy/paste my formula
[Code].....
(from cells C10 to CC10) to cells C14 to CC14, but when copied, the look up array changes to:
Formula: [Code] ....
I will have to fill this formula to at least 100 entries down, so i need to make it work with ease
The good thing is that all look up values in the source increase by a fixed number of rows (12). I tried playing with index/rows formula.. no luck..

At work I have a spread sheet that I used to track material shortages by part number. So in column A of the spread sheet there is a list of part numbers that have shortages, column E contains a list of all sales orders that are affected by the shortage separated by a comma. I am trying to setup a query sheet where I input a sales order and get back a list of parts that are short for that sales order(basically reversing the original list to be by sales order instead of part number). The number of values in column E varies, sometimes a cell will have 1 value, sometimes 20+ and anywhere in between.
Example Sheet:
A
B
C
D
E
123
012
234
789, 567
465
789
890
012
I'm already got a INDEX/MATCH that would show both shortages for sales order 012. But I can not figure out how to get the shortages for 789 or 567.
I'm wondering if it is at all possible to have a cell comment automatically update depending on what data is input in the cell (via user input, VLOOKUP, etc.)?
For example, if cell A1 contains the text "CHARLES" with a comment saying "Employee of the Month", and is then subsequently updated with the new text "JOHN" (again, via direct input, a VLOOKUP, data validation, etc.) is there a way to have the comment automatically update to say something else, such as "Team Lead" for example?
I've considered using VBA to accomplish my goal, but am unsure how to compose an effective code to do so. I've also considered perhaps creating a named table filled with all the different comment possibilities I would like to have used in this cell and then inputting a formula in either cell A1, or the comment contained therein, that would then call the corresponding text from that table based on the data in cell A1. Honestly, I'm not sure that what I'm trying to do is even possible;
I have one column that contains a monetary amount (column AQ) , and another that contains text reading either "inflows" or "outflows" (column AC)
When AC says "inflows", AQ should be positive, and when AC says "Outflows", AQ should be negative.
I need the text in column AQ (the monetary amount) to become red when the the opposite is true.
i.e. When AQ is negative and AC says "Inflows", AQ should become red. And when AQ is positive and AC says "Outflows", AQ should become red.
I need to assign the ID value to the cell in the source column when it matches the cell value in the email column.
