Feb 27, 2014I'm going to be using a spreadsheet to keep track of where different people are at. So if Person 1 is in Room 3, I will stick a 3 in the box next to their name and then can look at the spreadsheet whenever I need and see what room they are in. When I'm deciding what room to put a person in, though, I need to be able to quickly glance at a list of Room #'s and see what one's are still available. So I have a bank of Room #'s in the spreadsheet....1,2,3, etc.
What I'd like, is some way to set this up so that when I put, for example, "3" in the cell next to "Person 1" the spreadsheet automatically removes "3" from the bank of available Room #'s and when I delete the "3" because the person has left, it adds "3" back to the bank of available Rooms.

and I require the ranges of reference numbers to be listed in a column one above the other, which requires inserting new rows. I also need the date & description columns copied down into the newly inserted rows.
So basically for example I would want the top row to now read:
table removed
and then apply the same procedure to the other ranges below this.

Mar 25, 2014I am looking for a formula to grab only the numbers withing a cell that has text in it i.e (John Peters142 lp) or (Sally Jones54) or (Terry Cram310 jkb) sometimes there will be text after the number and sometimes not, the format is as shown with no space between name and number but a space after the number.

Oct 12, 2006I need the " solutions cells " to match to the " source cells " and return a " yes " or " no ". in cells d4:d10. Ex: #1 cell C4=01234598, it will conduct a search & match of cell A5 which contains the number 123, since cell C4 contains all 3 numbers from cell A5, then the formula would result in a " Yes ". The match has to contain all 3 numbers from the solution cells to the source cells.
Ex: #2 cell C7=67891234, it will conduct a search & match of cell A8 =901. Since cell C7 only contains the 9&1 from cell A8, it would return a " No " because cell C7 did not contain all 3 numbers from cell A8. I'm not sure if the IF, Match, Index or Count formula is the right one to use, they all seem to partially work, but still don't complete this problem.

Sheet2 contains calculations based of the numbers in sheet1.
Each sheet from 2 on is names after the names in sheet1 column A...
A large cell at the top of each sheet contains the formula to display the sheet name:
=MID(CELL("filename",A1),FIND("]",CELL("filename",A1))+1,255)
So what I want to do now is...
in cell, look for the cell in sheet1, and display the value in the cell offset by X so i can bring the numbers from sheet1 over.
In plain english the cell would say like...
"look in sheet1 for "Name" then display the cell next to it"
I know to look in the next sheet its "=Base!B2" if i wanted b2 on sheet base.
I know to use "=OFFSET(Base!B2, , 1, , )" too look at B2 and go right 1 column.
But the issue is i dont want Base!B2.. i want whatever cell in Base column A that has the text that A1 has.

Cell A1, they can select Rice, Cheese, or Rabbit
I want to use custom data validation on B1, so that if A1 = Rabbit, they can only enter 1. If it is blank or the other two choices, they can enter 1 through 10.
Can I do that with data validation? I can't get any if thens to work in it.

Aug 11, 2008I'm trying to reference a location on a spreadsheet in a macro by using the values in two cells (the idea is to then paste to this location):
D2 is 17 (the row)
B4 is 2 (the column)
therefore the location is B17 (R17C2), but can I get this to work...? The values in these cells can change depending on selections made which is why I want to use the cell references rather than the absolute!

Oct 6, 2013I need a formula that will place the numbers in cell A into the cells in B C and D. The formula cannot be an array because for some reason my mac is very stubborn about arrays and I can't do them. If possible I would like each individual number to appear no more than once. That's why 4 and 3 only appear once.
It would also be nice if you could order them from smallest to greatest but if you can only do that with arrays then I suppose I can just get the same result with more clicks of the button.

Mar 29, 2009I have another post here on this forum, but I'm afaid the formula is getting so complex that nobody is able to fully understand what I want. Instead I want to find a value between two numbers and add it to some IF sentences. It will do what I want, even if it's not that elegant.
I've looked at the SUMIF function but it did not do exactly what I wanted. It finds a number or adds numbers only if they are in range it seems.
What I want is the following:
Return sum between 500 and 1000 in one cell.

Sum Up A Row Of Numbers Based On Another Cell
Nov 3, 2009I have been finding answers on this website for soo long. But today is the day, I finally am stumped and could not find an answer here. I am setting up a standard excel sheet of data. Row 1 has labels and the data goes down each column.
the first column is 1 of only 5 words. the rest of the columns are number values.
Example.
city num1 num2 num3
cityname 3 4 5
cityname1 2 3 4
cityname 3 1 2
The data in the first column will be 1 of 5 city names.
My question is how can I setup a cell to keep a sum of num1, num2 and num3 of each of the 5 cities. I have been scratching my head and googleing for a couple hours now.
I was thinking of using an if then statement. Here is my psuedo statement for a cell that would be keeping track of num1:
(if any cell in column 'city' = cityname add the current value in this cell to the value located in column num1 of the row thats currently being evaluated.
The cell that contains this formula would have to constantly monitor the city column and update the num1 column as needed.

There are 2 particular rows which I care if they have a '1', '2' or '3' in them, let's say row 17 and 18.
I want to create a formula say in row 20 which would tell me if there is a '1', '2' or '3' in the corresponding cells in EITHER (!) row 17 or 18.
An example to clarify:
Cell A17 = 1
Cell A18 = 2
Then Cell A20 would be = 1 because both A17 and A18 have a '1', '2' or '3' .
2nd example:
Cell C17 = 1
Cell C18 = 0
Then Cell C20 would be = 1 because C17 has a '1', '2' or '3' .
3rd example
Cell D17 = 6
Cell D18 = 12
Then Cell D20 would be = "" (Null - no value) because neither D17 nor D18 has a '1', '2' or '3' .
Note: I am looking just for the numbers '1', '2' or '3' not (!) numbers like 11, 12, 13, 21, 22, 23 etc...

Numbers Not Pasting Right In The Cell?
Nov 25, 2013I'm trying to paste the number 1-987654321 into cell A1. But when I click the cell onces then Ctrl+V to paste, it converts the number. It puts 1 into cell A1 and 987654321 into cell A2. I've tried changing the format of the cell to TEXT and GENERAL but that doesn't work. Now I can double click the cell and then paste and that works. My only issue with that is all the other data I'm pasting into the spreadsheet, I'm able to do so by only clicking once. This spreadsheet will be used by 20 people and I'm afraid that if they paste by click once in all the other cells and have to double click to paste in this cell, that it will cause confusion and a headache for me.
