Recording Date And Time In A Cell When Another Cell Is Activated.

I would like to have people enter text in the cells in column A and record the Date and Time they did it in the same cells in column J.
I have tried (in cell J1) If(A1<>"", NOW(),"") but of course the problem is that it keeps updating to the present time. I tried using INT(NOW()) but that doesn't work
I know I could simply Copy and Paste Special over each cell in the J column but that seems terribly inelegant.

I found something similar here VBA - How to select a range in a non-activated worksheet but when I tried to "apply" it, I kept getting an error if the relevant sheet wasn't activated. My code

What I want to do is to be able to search for a specific value in a specific column on the "Combo boxes" sheet, which isn't activated (the number of rows will never be large, thereof the hard-coded 200).
I get the impression that some sites say the relevant sheet has to be activated, others say it doesn't.
The code above works fine if the sheet is activated, otherwise it fails with error 91 on the msgbox row.

I have a spreadsheet where an engineer is expected to record sample temperatures of water outlets, along with the time he took the sample. Each outlet has a row on the spreadsheet with a column for the Temperature and column for the time. I would like to automatically input the current time(or time and date) on each line as the temperature is entered.

I am working on an Inventory Spreadsheet. I have need it to date time stamp that willpopulate a different cell /field when text are entered in a different cell/field and will not change all the previous dates entered on the spreadsheetevery time I re-open the spreadsheet. I am getting a run time error 1004 during a copy-paste of a named range. I've read other posts and the help file and know it's related to defining an object, but I'm not clear on exactly what hasn't been defined.

I am using Excel 2013. Anyway, the first issue is that I need to pull a date and a time period from text. So, for example, if I see something like Sunday Prime Time 7/6/14 8:37PM, I would want to pull ONLY the "7/6/14 8:37PM" out of it. Each text box could potentially be different, so it might not always be in the same format as "Sunday Prime Time 7/6/14 8:37PM" it might only show just the date and/or the time without all the extra text i.e. 7/6/14 8:37PM. Some of the cells will have text, others might only have just the time or even just the date and the time. The only thing that I am worrying about in each cell is extracting just the date and time. If this is too much to ask of excel, I would be ok with extracting ONLY the time - 8:37PM and not the date, but I would much rather be able to get both the time and date.
THEN, onto part two of my question. After I would pull the dates and times, I need to compare them with each other. So, when I have the same date with two separate times on that date, I need to write a formula to show if those times on that date are less than 30 minutes apart. So, if I have 6 times on 7/6/14, I need to know if any of them are less than 30 minutes apart.
I would need to have the formula say something like "Problem" if the times on 7/6/14 would be 5:30PM, 5:48PM, 7:00PM, 8:00PM, 8:15PM, and 9:00Pm for example. I would like to see the word "Problem" since 5:30PM and 5:48Pm is only 18 minutes apart, and "Problem" after 8:15PM since that is only 15 minutes past the 8:00PM which is obviously under 30 minutes. The times that are more than 30 minutes apart such as 7:00PM and 9:00PM for example are more than 30 minutes apart from any of the other times that were extracted.

I have one column with as many as 50,000 or more rows. The data format for each row/ cell is unique as shown below ( date and time). I wanted to split the data as shown in "Formatted Data" below. Have Tried Text To Column formatting but didn't work right.

When a cell changes i would like the cell in the next column to record the date of this change. After achieving this i want to set up conditional formatting to compare this date to the current date and if they are the same then change the original cell's colour to show it changed today!
I started using the code below (from ozgrid) which was working fine BUT my cell value in column A is actually taken from a different column. when the different column cell value changes my cell in A changes but the script below does not seem to see this as a change. it only records the date if i physcially change the cell in A rather than another cell prompting it to change.
based on my overall objective and my plans to date please can someone suggest a solution?

I have a problem regarding sorting data having date and also time within a single cell.
Example data (I have written it as code to preserve formatting)

Column B is start date and time whereas Column C is end date and time.
My aim is to cut and paste the whole row automatically to Sheet2 if the time is within 2AM to 8AM else leave as it is.Also I don't know anything about VBA Script.

say, William is the 1st student listed on cell A1.
when William is selected his math grade shows up on cell B3 & his English grade on cell C3
I figured out how to make cells B3 & C3 change according to selected student from cell A3. All data comes from the Database Table, which is locked/unedittable.

I have a DDE-based worksheet, that is obtaining data from Townsend Analytics' RealTick Server software. One of my cells is a DDE formula that retrieves the current BID ask price, for a given stock.
When a new BID price comes in to my designated cell, I need to somehow capture the existing BID price, before this new one updates in the requisite cell. I want to be able to store this "old" value in another cell.
Unfortunately, there is no "pre-cell" event trapping. I've tried to work with the worksheet_change event, which passes an argument of the effected cells, but the cell value has already changed, by the time this event has been called.
This problem sounds simple, but I am at a loss for a solution. Does anybody out there in EXCEL-land have a solution ?

Say i wanted to track the changes in a cell, i.e. if a number changes in a cell it records the new number in a new column. The following macro achieves this for one value; say type a value in a15, it records the number changes in column D;

I thought about running the macro for each cell but it wont work, for example i tried;

I have data exported from a defect management tool (that reports all the defects that have been recorded in the defect management system). This data has unique columns for name of originator, defect ID, date originated, priority, etc. The date originated column has the date and time. I want to create a report that tells me how many High, Medium and Low priority defects were created on each date - and I am using a pivot table to do this.
However, because the date column is actually the date and time the defect was reported/recorded, the time element of this is making all the dates unique eg, I have three defects recorded on 29/01/2009, a High priority defect (reported at 29/01/2009 12:23) and two Medium priority defects (reported at 29/01/2009 13:02 and 29/01/2009 13:32). My pivot table is showing each date as a unique date - with a count of 1 against each, whereas I want to see 1 date entry (for 29/01/2009) with a count of 1 against High and 2 against Medium.
I have tried custom formatting the date column to dd/mm/yyyy - which appears to work in the data (but doesn't in the pivot table, because the time stamp is still there, just not visible). I have tried copy and paste special [Values] (on the custom formatted date column) -but the time stamp is still there. I have tried formatting the date column to "General", but this changes the dates to the number format - eg 29/01/2009 12:23 becomes 39842.5166203704.
I have tried inserting a new column and using the =Left function for the first 10 characters of the cell (ie the 29/01/2009), but that gives the first 10 characters of the number form of the date, ie 39842.5166. Basically, without going into every date cell (and I have thousands) and manually deleting all the times, how do I quickly change the date column into just having the date in it (ie how do I strip off the time element)?

I am working on this project that involves opening several Excel spreadsheets and copying the data into a new workbook. The problem is that the names of the various worksheets I want to copy change every day - it always reflects the date. I open 7 workbooks, go to the sheet named (for example)01.17.07, copy a static range and then paste it to a new workbook.
Is it possible to record a macro and use a cell reference in the destination workbook (the one I want to copy to) to tell it which worksheet to copy? So, for example, I would type 01.17.07 in cell A1 of the new workbook and the macro would look for the sheet named 01.17.07 when running? Then tomorrow, I could type 01.18.07 and it would know to look for a different sheet?

I'm trying to record a macro that is using vlookups to get data from another data sheet, this data sheet will update each month - the old data moving back a column (so the new data is filled into the same column each time).
However, on the sheet where i am recording the macro, i need the data to fill in the next column each time.

I have several hundred rows of date/times which I need to modify just the date (for example 08/23/2007 11:00 to 08/15/2008 11:00). Each row may have a different time so it is just the date I'm targeting for change.
If I manually use the replace dialog, replacing 08/23/2007 with 08/15/2008 works just fine. However, if in code I attempt to use the Cells.Replace function, it does not locate any data to change.
I have found that if I search for the string 8/23/2007, the dates are located and changed. Only when I attempt to find the fully formatted date 08/23/2007 does the function fail.

I'm trying to record a macro that calls up the saveas dialogue and uses a filename from a cell (it's the w/c date). I can start recording the macro, open the dialogue box and copy the contents of the cell but i can't get it to paste as the filname.
What I'm trying to achieve is to allow users of a muli-sheet workbook to be able to click on a 'save' button on any sheet and have the workbook save with a filename which includes the current week commencing date. This way all the weeks changes will be in just one file and from the following monday a new file will be started the the old one left alone as an archive.

I am looking to record the history of multiple cells at one time instead of as soon as I hit enter after changing one cell's value. There are other threads concerning just the history of a single cell as you input another value and hit enter.
So for example, I have multiple cells that are calculated using formula's in their respective cells using input cells in the worksheet. I will be changing the input cell's values in the worksheet to update the calculated cells. I want to record the input cell's values as well as the new calculated values at one time after changing the input cells. I dont know if I can add a button to a cell or something to that accord to accomodate this. I am still new to vba coding in excel.
From there forward I will interate this as new situations arise and want to record the input and output (calculated) cells on another tab or worksheet along with the date it was recorded.

There should be a Login and Logout Button and a Start time end time button to record data to the next sheet in the workbook. Also it would be great if it includes a Break and EndBreak button so that the time taken in the breaks gets recorded in the next sheet in the Workbook.
Every Morning colleagues should click the LoginButton to start and click the logout button at the Day end to get the total production time recorded in the next sheet. (Total production time should be Total time taken minus breaks). We have a 9 hour shift.
